resolved Edit war on Stellar Blade's YMMV page. Videogame
Yesterday, troper Smeagol 17 added this
sentence to the Misblamed entry, bolded for clarity:
- Mis-blamed: After a day-one patch altered some of Eve's outfits to make them less sexualized, certain people were quick to blamed Sony, believing that they were the one's who forced the developers to censor their own game. Kim Hyeong-tae, CEO of Shift Up, claims that Sony had absolutely nothing to do with these changes and stated that the changes to Eve's designs were done for the sake of quality rather than trying to deprive gamers of anything.
"I don't think that just because the costumes are vulgar doesn't necessarily mean they're good, so this is something that was modified for quality, as a result, there are parts where eroticism is lessened or emphasized. This is the final product that we want to show as the intended result."
As this is obviously the wrong way to do it, I slightly modified and moved
that sentence to before the CEO's name and sent a formatting notifier to the user in question.
In less than two hours, Smeagol 17 re-added
that sentence on the same line with only a slightly different indentation, without an edit reason.
resolved Possible edit warring Videogame
- Troper Smeagol 17 added
the following under Misblame:
- It was removed
by another troper.
- Smeagol added
it again.
- I removed
it citing it to be natter.
- Smeagol added
it again albeit rewritten (hence me calling this ATT "potential" edit warring).
The troper was already reported
a while back but no action was done. What should we do?
resolved Combining character sheets of Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor Videogame
First off, let me state several preceding factors:
- Honor of Kings just received a global release.
- Both Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor are created by both Tencent Games and TiMi.
- There has been an update in lore that the world both games took place have been reimagined as 'neighboring regions' (Honor of Kings' world is called Primaela, whereas Arena of Valor's world is called Athanor)
- Both Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor have lent their characters to each other. So we can see some HOK characters being playable in AOV and vice versa. So we now have characters overlapping with each other.
- A lot of characters of Arena of Valor have their moveset taken from Honor of Kings with some small tweaks, creating 'counterparts' between two games without too much of being expies.
With that being said, I have the idea of 'combining' both games' character sheets. Originally both have five separate character sheets (based on their class designations of Warriors, Tank, Assassins, Mages and Supports). So in total, there are 10 pages, with some tropes overlapping due to the counterparts. I have counted the total heroes so far, and I come up with the idea of:
- One page for heroes that appear in both games (regardless of classes). This will contain 6 heroes
- Five pages for heroes that have counterparts with each others, based on classes. These will contain: 32, 16, 20, 38, 24, 24 heroes, but all of them are foldered in pairs of 2
- Five pages for heroes that are exclusive to each games, based on classes. This is because certain classes in one game may end up only having 1 character per page and I don't think that's kosher, so I decided to combine both games for exclusives. Based on classes, in total it will contain: 26, 4, 12, 17, 10, 6 heroes, no foldering.
You don't need to know about the two games to proceed. But I just wanna ask... is this kosher or going against the rules in TVT? I'm just trying to avoid overlaps considering the situation.
Thanks!
Edited by ChrisXresolved Can you shout-out a genre? Videogame
COMPOUND is a VR roguelike shooter with retro graphics. It can feel like a bullet hell at times due to its slow enemy bullet speed. Additionally, in this game you can only carry 2 weapons (3 if you dual wield).
The game has an "old school" mode where you can carry ALL the weapons, you move faster, the enemy bullets go faster, etc.
There is no doubt that the "old school" mode alludes to vintage shooters of the past, where the player has quick access to all of the game's weapons, and the combat is much faster paced. With direct references to games like Ashes 2063, it's clear the developers are Doom fans.
However, this "old school" mode isn't referencing any specific media as it's an allusion to a whole genre. You could say the reference applies to Doom, Quake, Unreal Tournament, what have you.
So, my question is; is this a shout-out? Or is it something else.
resolved Ridicolously long Administrivia/WalkthroughMode descriptions for Zenless Zone Zero character folders Videogame
So there's this user, DR 34 DN 0 UGHT, who frequently edits Hoyoverse game character pages (Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero) and adds extremely specific, unnecessarily detailed descriptions of character skills and abilities like he's writing out a guide.
Sample:
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/ZenlessZoneZero
"Ellen Joe is a slippery Attack-specialty Agent who can rapidly maneuver across the battlefield before slicing her targets to ribbons with incredible Ice-Attribute damage. Her unique Dash, Roaming Hunt, allows her to access the "Roaming" state after double-tapping or holding Dash, from which she can use one of two versions of her unique Dash Attack, Arctic Ambush, to build points of "Flash Freeze Charge". Having Flash Freeze Charges activates the Flash Freeze effect, allowing Ellen to spend the Charges to use her empowered Flash Freeze Trimming Basic Attacks or Cold Snap Dash Attack, which deal high amounts of Ice DMG. Her Special Attack, Drift, lets her swipe her tail in front of her to deal Ice DMG, but her EX Special Attack, Tail Swipe, is a greatly enhanced version that hits harder and grants her a Flash Freeze Charge, and if she has the Energy, can be followed up by a second EX Special Attack, Sharknami, letting her unleash multiple slashes that deal heavy Ice DMG and grants another Flash Freeze Charge; she can also immediately use the third attack from Flash Freeze Trimming after using either EX Special Attack. Her Chain Attack, Avalanche, lets her drop down on a target to deal massive Ice DMG, and her Ultimate, Endless Winter, similarly allows her to crash down on a target to deal immense Ice DMG. Finally, her Core Passive, Sharp-Toothed increases the CRIT DMG of the held version of her Arctic Ambush Dash Attack and her Flash Freeze Trimming Basic Attacks by 50-100%, and her Additional Ability, Rising Storm, grants her team a 3% Ice DMG increase for 10 seconds that can stack up to 10 times if two or more party members are of the Ice Attribute or belong to the Victoria Housekeeping Co. faction."
This is all in the DESCRIPTION of the character. This user has done this for all playable characters in all three listed games above. I think this needs to stop, it's been in blatant violation of Walkthrough Mode for too long.
resolved Should I revert edits made to "correct" Commonwealth spelling to American? Videogame
A couple of weeks ago, a user went through the main and character pages for TerraTech [1] and changed all the British English spellings to American English, which is against the "American and Commonwealth English" policy. Is it all right if I go and revert their edits, or should I just leave the pages be for now?
Edited by Aardvark123resolved Re: Mass edits of Zenless Zone Zero, Honkai: Star Rail, and Genshin Impact character descriptions Videogame
Recently Makir proposed a mass deletion
of gameplay description paragaphs for the character folders of Zenless Zone Zero, as well as Honkai: Star Rail and Genshin Impact (apparently triggered by DR 34 DN 0 UGHT's article on Ellen Joe). As much as I understand that this was meant to reduce the risk of the pages slipping into Walkthrough Mode, I have my misgivings about the suddenness of it all, especially given that in the two earlier games, such descriptions were written to be integrated with the tropes sections (i.e., certain elements from the paragraphs would make sense in the context of the tropes section and vice versa).
I advocated holding off on the edits and waiting for feedback from the other seasoned tropers so they can at least deliberate and, should they agree to edit the paragraphs, carefully integrate them into the tropes before cleaning them up, but things just kinda rolled too fast.
Edited by zero5889resolved Restoring parts of an entry (somewhat NSFW) Videogame
For some context: A while back, I reported a troper
(Halberd Stop Crashing) regarding some entries they added on The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak. In particular, they wrote portions of the Hotter and Sexier to make mention of homoerotic subtext. I removed since we still don't have much information and the game wasn't out in English, since having gay subtext doesn't automatically make a scene sexual. After a while, I got DM from the troper, stating that, "It's a fanservice scene". When I asked for further clarification and evidence, they sent me a .rar folder with screenshots from I can presume is the Fan Translation. At first, I thought it was a sex jokes added to spice things up, but after seeing the scene and using Google Translate, it was confirmed to be somewhat accurate. So I'm asking if parts of the old entry can be restored.
Further links:
- The files they sent me
(the linked ATT also has some screenshots of it but not all of them)
- The trooper's edit
- The Japanese version of the clip
and the English version
(note that I haven't watched the latter because, while I spoiled myself on some aspects of the game, I want to experience the other scenes as blind as possible)

On Characters.Guilty Gear Strive, I removed a part the voice actor for Lucy since we don't know if her voice actors from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will reprise their role. However, troper Moon Might Man added it back

resolved Should software forks be listed as fan works? Videogame
StepMania is an open-source rhythm game that's been forked (aka built off of as a base) to create several other rhythm games. I realized though that a lot of the forks are listed as Spin-Off despite being unaffiliated with the original game or its creators, or just linked from the intro section.
Since there's a Stepmania-related work covered on this site that isn't a direct fork - the UK Sight Reading Tournament custom levels - and because I was planning on adding more pages on other things like it, I was thinking of creating a Stepmania fan-works page to neatly list both the forks of the game and other things like tournaments. I haven't seen any other things covering software forks though, so I wanted to check if that's okay or if there's another way to go about it (if at all).
Edited by DXL44resolved BaseBreakingCharacter EditWar on FFXIV Page. Videogame
Recently Final Fantasy XIV released it's newest expansion, and there has been division about the main focal point character for it, Wuk Lamat. Already people have jumped to adding her as a Base-Breaking Character (someone even put her on The Scrappy about two weeks after the expansion came out before it was removed), despite the expansion only being out for barely a month as of now despite the rules stating otherwise.
Walker B Riley recently added the entry after it was already removed, so I removed it and mentioned how the expansion was new and even if true needs to be discussed first because of how polarizing the subject is, but instead he went ahead and readded it to the YMMV page with the following: "Stop removing her from the list. Wuk Lamat is the single most basebreaking character introduced since Zenos."
Even if the BBC entry is not needing the 6 month period cause its an expansion, they still readded a removed entry without going to discussion. The entry itself is doesn't work well even if it is okay to add her as it is short and barely explains anything: "Wuk Lamat has divided the fanbase in two with her portrayal either praised or hated. The consensus on both sides is she did receive more story involvement that was potentially necessary."
Edited by keyblade333resolved Editing Hype Backlash to deflect criticism? Videogame
A while ago I added a Hype Backlash entry to YMMV.Pikmin 2. However, troper Drifloon Empire added some notes deflecting the criticisms I laid out:
- Hype Backlash: Though the game was for the longest time hailed as the best game in the series, newcomers to the franchise, especially those who grew up with Pikmin 3, have criticized the game for its unbalanced difficulty and focus on randomly generated caves over the beautifully crafted outdoor sectionsnote However, Pikmin 2 has the same amount of outdoor maps and sections as Pikmin 1, many of which are either reused (albeit with changes to reflect the passage of time) or are the same size, so it contains the same amount of outdoor content as its predecessor, said caves also being criticized for sometimes generating unfair or unoptimal layouts. Some have also criticized the game for not having the same isolationist atmosphere or the life-or-death stakes of the first game. The removal of the time limit, which was unanimously seen as a major improvement upon the game's release, is seen by some as a downgrade as it removes the motivation to finish the game quicklynote Defenders of 2, however, will often note that the players making these criticisms are experienced players who never come close to hitting the 30-day time limit in 1, and that the time limit in 3 is so generous that it's more of a formality than anything. Furthermore, 4 also has no time limit, yet doesn't receive these same criticisms from fans).
I just want to state that this is not my personal opinion, Pikmin 2 was my favorite in the series for a long time and I still hold a lot of nostalgia for the game, I'm just parroting what the game's detractors say about it. Regardless I don't think it's appropriate to edit the entry to talk about why those detractors are wrong. Thoughts?
ETA: Worth noting that initially there was initially a very vague Condemned by History entry under 2 by the same troper ("[...]the game's reputation's been steadily dropping due to the game's detractors becoming more vocal along with a general shift in opinion since 3 Deluxe."), but then it was taken to clean-up and it was determined it didn't count, but I still felt there was indeed some criticism towards the game from newer players (though not enough to disgrace the game) so I rewrote the entry into Hype Backlash and expanded upon it. Said troper also tried to shoehorn a mention of Condemned by History into the entry ("It is a rare case where the game started as a Sacred Cow but is continuing to head towards Condemned by History.") but it was struck down by a mod.
Edited by supernintendo128resolved Does Bioshock Infinite count as an example of Troubled Production? Videogame
I just found out recently that the game, which underwent a very long development cycle to the point of its budget blowing up to unhealthy proportions, was largely the result of its project leader, Ken Levine's, flawed management style and tendency to be fickle, scrapping years worth of development the moment something else strikes his fancy, resulting in a high turnover of developers that grew tired of Levine's antics. You can find plenty of articles such as this
that reveal his tendency to have a falling out with his employees in this manner. Seems to be another case of an Auteur License that went the way of The Peter Principle, but what do others think?
resolved Momoka - is this thing tropable? Videogame
Recently I've seen ManlyBadassHero's playthrough of RPG Maker game Momoka
. The thing is, there isn't much in the terms of gameplay and the story is shallow and full of holes. Manly's commentary doesn't help either. At least I'm unable to spot any distinguished tropes in the game. Considering this, is the thing even tropable?
resolved Can I make a forum about discussing FNF mods that need pages? If so, where? Videogame
I was wondering if I could make a forum about discussing what Friday Night Funkin' mods people think they need pages. After all, while there are already pages covering a lot of mods, there are millions of other FNF mods that tropers may want them to have pages.
resolved Trouble due to not understanding other users Videogame
I am trying my best on the TLP, but others keep saying that what I write for drafts doesn't make sense as tropes and the like. I feel like I missed something about posting a draft on the TLP, and I thought it could be a place where people can come together and help each other build up a trope or at least show how the draft couldn't work as one. One thing that might affect my understanding of how things work is my ASD, and it just feels like others, even on here, bring me down when I am trying my best to understand what they are saying while also trying to communicate with them but falling short and failing to comprehend one another. Sometimes, I feel so lost on the TLP that I don't want to cause harm but become a better troper. Does anyone have any advice or way to improve on this difficulty I am having with others on the TLP?
resolved Ace in the Hole Persona 5 Videogame
Hi, I'm the writer for the Ace in the Hole fanfic and one of my readers contacted me. She was doing some edits for the character tv tropes page and some of the images have broke, specifically the character folders that had more than one image. She was really apologetic about it and I've tried to edit it, following the guide on label notes, but I'm not entirely sure what happened, as the images keep breaking. I was wondering if I could get some guidance on how to fix this issue, thank you!
