Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.

Ask the Tropers:
resolved Is being a “serial editor” against the rules?
In other words, is editing a singular page or edit multiple times against the rules, even when it’s just grammar fixes?
Edited by Puttotheangel23resolved Fix a reason to make it broader?
One of the possible selectable reasons it "Trope was cut/disambiguated due to cleanup".
Except it's not just trope pages which get cut or disambiguated. But there is no "Page was cut/disambiguated due to cleanup" reasonnote although it's not hard to simply retype it.
How about the reason was fixed to make it broader?
resolvedHow best to start a Work page?
I've been attentive to Magic The Noah's current You Tube series on his homemade, Stylistic Suck board games with other Youtubers, but we don't have a page for that yet, only mentions on Party Crashers about their time on his videos. What is the best way to start up this works page, and how?

resolved Possible Edit War in YMMV.Tekken8
Here, by Mrkmher23
(Also spoiler alert for the recent DLC)
He wanted to add the Broken Base part about the resurrection of Heihachi Mishima. However... didn't we have a 6 month rule for Broken Base or Base-Breaking Character? Even if there has been controversies, I believe we should have waited for 6 months. However, not only the story content has just been released, Heihachi's announcement trailer was 2 months ago.
I'd edit back, but this may escalate to an Edit War. So... shall I edit back or one of you guys from the mod team would do it by also copy-pasting the thing in Broken Base?
A No Recent Examples rule applies to this trope and examples shouldn't be added for 6 months. This is measured from release or when the issue becomes divisive, whichever comes later.
resolved QUESTION: Is it safe to recreate the "Breakfest with sister" page? Webcomic
CONTEXT: I beleive that some of you may notice that "Craving control" wasn't the only Webcomic on here that was "wearing the balloon belly trope like a boxing champion belt" for a lack of a better term. I noticed the "Breakfest with sister" page being cut thanks to something called "content policy cleanup", despite having just as much of the trope as Craving control does, along with it's many (and sometimes much more popular) spin-off stories that are still active. I'm not going to spare anyone the details about the 18 page story if they don't know about it, but you can still read the Webcomic on DeviantArt, despite the webcomic being over a dacade old by this point.
EDIT: fixed the Deviantart platform link.
CLOSED: no more talking.
Edited by bereshpoop19resolved YMMV page creation Western Animation
I recently created a YMMV page for a fanfic I wrote called So Long, Farewell, Auf Wiedersehen, A-D'oh. I'm told that creating YMMV pages for one's own work is frowned upon here. But since the only item relates to an episode of the show in question, in this case The Simpsons, could an exception be made?
resolved Can't decide if this work is Web Animation/ or Music/
I wanted to make a work page (currently have it drafted in my sandbox) for the music video "Kiss Me (Kill Me)
" by YouTuber/musician JerryTerry, and I'm having trouble determining if it belongs in Music/ or Web Animation/ namespace.
The song is a remix/heavily altered cover of "Kiss Me" by Sixpence None the Richer and features a greatly reworked horror narrative that feels heavily informed by the music video it's attached to, and so I consider the two heavily linked (and the remix wasn't released as like, a commercial single or anything). I know we have precedent for Music Videos being a variety of different namespaces, most of them Music/, but some in Western Animation/ and Anime/ based on their various contexts, would like some thought on what to do for this.
resolved Indexing trope example subpages?
Is it customary for a trope page to act as an index for its example subpages (not sub-tropes, but just split-off example pages)? I noticed when participating in the clean-up of Vapor Wear that there is index markup around the links to the example subpages.
Edited by GnomeTitanresolved Rename Crowner for Bad Cop/Incompetent Cop
There is a new crowner in the Trope Repair Shop
to rename the trope Bad Cop Incompetent Cop, defined by the previous crowner as "the majority of cops in a work or an agency depicted therein are dirty".
Your participation is appreciated.
resolved Can someone help me find this pilot?
all I really remember is that it starts with a kid on what seems to be an alien planet having a race with a giant talking cat and the two of them act like brothers, the cat wins the race and so the kid gets a bath (ala tongue) and then they notice how a village is being threatened by high tech soldiers and apparently the team from Avatar had something to do with it? I dunno... all I know is that it was on youtube anyone know what I'm talking about?
resolved Electroboom YMMV revival Web Original
I'd like to see Mehdi Sadaghdar's YMMV page's revision history, so I can recreate YMMV/ElectroBOOM.
Like, SungWon Cho has both WebVideo and Creator pages and thus the former can have a YMMV page.
resolved Avoiding edit war + only Fridge Logic entry on Fridge/ page?
There was a page move request
that I fulfilled that moved a page from an incorrect namespace of FridgeLogic/ to Fridge/, and I added "Fridge Logic" as the header for the single entry.
~constanton11 edited the header
to Fridge Brilliance instead, I assume this was an oversight since most Fridge/ pages start with "Fridge Brilliance"
Why I'm bringing this to ATT (besides wanting to avoid an edit war which could be hashed out privately) is that I'm not so certain myself if a Fridge/ page can have a Fridge Logic entry alone or if it should be moved to Headscratchers/ or merged back to YMMV.
Edited by BlackFaithStarresolved Recap Page Title Consistency
doglover502 created Recap.Schaffrillas Productions Every Steven Spielberg Movie Ranked for Recap.Schaffrillas Productions, and I wanted to shorten the title of the page to Recap.Schaffrillas Productions Steven Spielberg Ranked so that it's consistent with the similar pages on the recap (like Recap.Schaffrillas Productions Disney Ranked and Recap.Schaffrillas Productions George Miller Ranked). Do you think this is a good idea?
Edited by bpants98resolved Should this page be split?
I was thinking about King Kong Godzilla Actors into three pages. One for King Kong, one for Godzilla, and one for the MonsterVerse. Does that sound like a good idea or should I leave it alone?
resolved Burning head Film
Action movie set in a large American park on fire, where the villain, who seemed dead, returns to harm the protagonists, and eventually dies with his head burned by the fire.
resolved Trivia Page question
Heyo, so semi-recently I created a page for MeTV Toons, and with it I had created a Trivia page for it. I added one example to it and later someone added two more examples.
Then recently I visited the page and saw that someone had, for some reason, moved the Trivia entries that had been there to the main page and then apparently had the Trivia page deleted (for the reason "moved to creator", as seen if you try to open it).
Did the troper who did this make the right call or should it be reverted? I'm not sure why someone would deliberately move Trivia examples to the main page and then kill the Trivia page.
Edited by kablammin45resolved EditWar Western Animation
On the The Smurfs (2021) page:
- Unicorn 14 added a red link
to The Smurfs Movie, a movie that, while announced, wasn't created yet.
- I deleted it for this very reason
.
- Unicorn14 adds it back
without any prior discussion.

The game takes place in some manner of arctic region, and one of the most memorable elements of the game is a railway gun
big enough to be mistaken for a building.
