openCharacter Agenda-Based Editing? Live Action TV
Civil War is known for being a film with a very strong Broken Base, and Melbell 18 made several edits
to Captain America: Civil War that seem to be biased in Tony Stark's (himself a massively Base-Breaking Character who is notorious for inspiring Draco in Leather Pants and Ron the Death Eater reactions) favor.
Do I have permission to reword the language and remove some of the more accusatory changes?
Edited by AlleyOopopenExcessive gushing in YMMV/TheRageaholic ?
I'm specifically thinking about the the examples for Heartwarming Moments and Moment of Awesome, both of which mention the allegations against Michael Jackson, which is a bit of a contentious issue in and of itself.
Edited by Powogaopenexample arguing with itself Literature
The Dune example under "Literature" on War for Fun and Profit is arguing with itself. I don't know anything about the series beyond half-paying attention to the movie and TV Tropes examples. Could someone who does know please fix?

openTroper with poor grammar
I've noticed that tgibsonlabour45 has some issues with grammar in their edits to Danganronpa pages, especially punctuation and run-on sentences.
- Too Good for This Sinful Earth: Subverted by her surviving the events of SDR 2 in hope arc but in spite of her flaws Mahiru is an extremely kind and selfless person who loves photographer because she loves seeing others smile and making them happen, when twilight syndrome framed her for covering up Natsumi's death she didn't run from it, she tried to make amends over the death of her school bully to her brother who was also a massive toxic bully, this of course ends up killing her coldly, the group especially Hiyoko are distraught and Hajime notes her kind hearted and forward nature and throughout the investgation is really saddened even both Fuyuhiko(Initially he's remorseless but later attempts seppuku out of his guilt over her death alone) and Peko (calling Mahiru's murder senseless and asking for the group to never let it happen again) seem to regret their actions and Hiyoko creates a memorial focusing on her pictures that while initially freaks the group out they come to really adore it as it shows how much her pictures made others happy(Fuyuhiko even has a hide to find scene where her looks at a picture with him and Peko where he reflectfully notes that its the first time he's ever seen a picture where they both look like equals and wonders when Mahiru took it.
- Karma Houdini: Completely averted, every game had a legit killer surviving and its true that Fuyuhiko was as guility as Peko in Mahiru's murder but firstly he is badly injured to the point of losing an eye and his eye for an eye thing comes back both ways as Peko dies, in addition after the second trial he goes as far as Seppuku to show the group that he's truly sorry to the point of death for what he did to Mahiru and drops the whole asshole lone wolf thing and becomes a highly reliable and kind hearted member of the group, arugably the most useful after Hajime Chiaki and at times Nagito. He truly earns his survival.
- Alas, Poor Scrappy: Hiyoko died in an attempt to honour Mahiru, she also died completely scared and alone, while Hiyoko was far from a great person its pretty hard not to feel bad as she tells Sonia in a flashback "i can do it because Mahiru taught me", bully or not she was a scared kid dealing with her only friends unfair murder and to make things worse she was trying to change and only died because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time, if Fuyuhiko and Peko didn't coldly take out Mahiru she'd still be alive [The missing period is not an error from me incorrectly copying and pasting.]
I sent a notifier, but they've made so many edits that it's going to be hard to fix all of them.
Edited by ZuxtronopenCreator vs Web Video
I've asked this several times but never got a definitive answer. Should Creator.Ryan George be moved to WebVideo.Ryan George? It's only troping his Youtube channel (which is also titled "Ryan George"), plus the only other work he's done with its own page is also web video work.
I have a similar question about the Creator.Pro ZD page, as it's largely troping his web video sketches, but unlike Ryan George, SungWon Cho is a creator with works in multiple namespaces since he's also a voice actor. However, his videos are eligible for YMMV items that a Creator page usually shouldn't have. So what would we do in this case? Keep it as one page or split Creator.Sung Won Cho for the actor himself and WebVideo.Pro ZD for his skits?
openSlightly suspicious troper Videogame
jamesalan
added a link to an unofficial web port of Five Nights at Freddy's 1 (hosted on y9freegames.com) on the Five Nights at Freddy's Franchise page. This edit strikes me as a bit odd because:
- It's an unofficial link, on a page about the official work.
- The link itself just reads "Online gameplay link" and is thrown in the middle of the spin-offs section of the page, on top of using the wrong formatting (a dash instead of asterisk for a bullet point), which has a bit of a spammy feel.
- Almost all of that troper's edits consist of adding links to web games.
I removed the link since it was out-of-place, but this incident makes the whole y9freegames site seem suspicious to me. The troper added another link to that site on Happy Wheels, which I'm not sure if it's OK or not.
openQuestion about a recap page that seems to have been prematurely made
While inspecting things, I noticed that someone apparently made a recap page for the upcoming show, Hazbin Hotel.
This seems to have been made half-heartedly if not prematurely.
While it has been announced that Hazbin Hotel has been picked up by a studio, no info has yet been given where it will be broadcast and when will the first season drop as of this writing.
As of this writing, all that there is of the show is the pilot itself, a music video, and a couple of webcomics.
There's practically nothing yet to warrant full on recap pages.
With all this in mind, is it okay to ask for this page to be deleted for the time being?
Edited by ElfkaiseropenMisnamed and empty work pages Print Comic
So it seems that some people are jumping the gun on some comics coming out as part of DC Infinite Frontier, with one page being misnamed and another being trope-less.
Justice League 2021 isn't the correct name, because the year indicates what year the series starts, not a run. This comic is just another writer's run on Justice League (2018), not a new series onto itself. It should be renamed something like Brian Michael Bendis' Justice League or Justice League (Infinite Frontier) to keep with convention. Also, one of the examples is just kinda weird, so maybe the person was jumping the gun in making it? The Mythology Gag is just... a thing that happened before. It isn't so much a gag as a thing they're doing again.
I just created The Flash (Infinite Frontier), since it is just a new creative team's run on the previous series, but is large enough a change in status quo that it deserves its own page. I think that the page I mentioned above should be moved to Justice League (Infinite Frontier).
The other thing is Green Lantern (2021). It's properly named, since the series is starting in 2021 and not a continuation of another series' numbering or anything. However, that page has no tropes at all and has been like that for a month now.

openLeaked content on My Hero Academia pages
I've been noticing this issue for a while now.
On pages for My Hero Academia, some users are adding information about the latest chapter before it's been officially released in English, based on scanlations. I've mainly seen this affecting Characters. My Hero Academia One For All; in fact, a back-and-forth involving multiple users has just happened today: Ludicrous Wolverine edited the page to add the name of a character which is revealed in the upcoming Chapter 310. This was reverted by Lion King Alex, citing that adding content based on leaks is not allowed. Green Lizard 9, Rich 4, and Aukefi then made more edits using the leaked name.
EDIT: Decided to just go ahead and revert this myself, and also add a warning comment to the page. I'll also send warning PMs to the offending users.
Edited by ZuxtronopenSelf Demonstrating lists - OK to remove YMMV?
Do Self Demonstrating character pages' example lists contain only tropes? Looks to be the case, but I'm asking before removing YMMV entries (specifically Adorkable).
openIs there an Alternative Character Interpretation cleanup?
Title is self-explanatory but I'll explain anyway. Alternative Character Interpretation an item that is very susceptible to shoehorning, and often attracts exaggeration along the lines of Ron the Death Eater and Draco in Leather Pants. One page that reeks of this is AlternativeCharacterInterpretation.Bo Jack Horseman, which was created by a troper who had a problem with complaining and has a lot of rambling about interpretations I've never heard from any other fan of the show. Is there a cleanup thread to discuss certain examples that might be too farfetched to make sense, are the opinion of a single fan, etc?
Edited by mightymewtronopenNo Title
- Win Back the Crowd:
- Depending on who you ask, the game itself is an example of this.note Many people legitimately liked the New Super Mario Bros. games when they were released. When it was first announced, a lot of people were not impressed and already wrote it off due to it not being a game in the vein of Super Mario Galaxy or being "Super Mario 3D Land HD". Or New Mario Bros crossed with Mario 3D Land. But when the October 1 trailer went up, it changed a lot of people's minds about the game and restored interest to those who are/were tired of Mario platformers because of the New Super Mario Bros. series. Then the game actually came out and blew folks away with the amount of thought and creativity put into the title along with new visuals and music. It actually feels like a new game rather than a retreadnote Which some felt the New Super Mario Bros. games were with new power-ups thrown in. The multiplayer aspect certainly helped as well.
- The new Bowser's Fury mode also wound up doing this to the Switch port. Initially, the port was written off as yet another lazy decision on Nintendo's part and not being worth $60. (Being announced at the same time as Super Mario 3D All-Stars, another controversial decision by Nintendo, didn't help much either). Come further information on the new mode, however, and more people had their interest peaked, including a Super Saiyan-esque form for Mario, a dark and intimidating new form for Bowser, and being an open-world collect-a-thon platformer in the vein of Super Mario Odyssey.
Can Win Back the Crowd even apply if the audience wasn't interested in the work initially? That'd be Win The Crowd, correct? Also, I remember people were excited for Bowser's Fury when it was announced, I don't remember anyone going "oh this is just another switch port so it'll blow", especially with the teaser at the end.
openAvengers 1000000 B.C. Print Comic
I just found Avengers 1000000 BC, a page which was created almost a month ago.
And I'm not sure why the page itself exists, as Avengers 1000000BC isn't a work, it's a group of characters that have appeared in various works (8 major appearances
in 3 different works, and 6 minor appearances
in 3 different works if the Marvel wiki is to be believed).
So I don't get why they have their own page, and not just have their tropes listed on either a character page, or just the relevant tropes listed in the pages of the work's they've appeared in.
openWhy not HoYay? What is it then?
Question about this from HoYay.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic that was brought to HoYay cleanup
and cut.
- For World Pride Day, Ashleigh Ball posted some Appledash fanart that she had signed personally.
- One comment joked that Ball, who voices both characters, was shipping herself with herself.
I get removing it as it's not unintended subtext. But if so I'm confused why the Word of God intentional Ship Tease between them in the Series Finale and intentional subtext between AJ and Rarity in the Equestria Girls series are still listed? Also from the page:
- Even her VA, Tara Strong, is getting in on it. Claiming that Twilight's "deep dark secret" is her crush on Pinkie Pie when asked at the MLP Panel at San Diego Comic Con 2018.
Is it not Ho Yay because it's not about subtext in the work itself? Not within plausible deniability like the retained examples? Or was there some other reason?
That there actress is aware and approves of the ship is likely a reason for the subtext in their interaction and contributed to it being upgraded to Ship Tease in the finale. Even if not Ho Yay it's seems relevant/contributing enough to it that it should be mentioned somewhere. Ideas where? Approval of God?
I also asked here
, but this may be a wider issue that would benefit from wider feedback.
openStaving off potential(?) edit war
On AwesomeMusic.Psychonauts 2, on 3 September, editor Andyroid added a quote from lyrics in italics. Per Text Formatting Rules, and specifically the rule saying "Do not italicize the text of the quote itself, except parts of it for emphasis." in the "Quotes Formatting" folder, I removed the italics on 5 September, noting in the edit reason that quotes from lyrics don't go in italics. On 30 September, Andyroid added the italics back without an edit reason.
It's not a hill I'm interested in dying on; any recommendations?
openColons or hyphens?
On the page for Fan Nickname/Hololive, all the examples are listed with a hyphen where you'd usually have a colon. Like this:
- Tokino Soda - Whenever she introduces herself, newcomers will often mishear her saying "Soda".
Is this acceptable?
open"Has a Point" misuse? Must explain how point is intentional?
- Dragon Ball Z provides a considerably dark example during the Cell Saga, when Gohan, in a state of Revenge Before Reason, deliberately drags his Curb-Stomp Battle with Cell out solely because he wanted him to suffer as much as possible for his crimes. While Goku and the other Z-Fighters are rightfully horrified and urge him to finish Cell off right away, Gohan is far from wrong that Cell deserved every second of it, considering the fact that he drank 600,000 innocent people, killed thousands of others in cold blood, and fully intended to hunt down and kill every last human on Earth while savoring their terror and despair.
I think this might be misuse as, while Cell deserved such, Gohan dragging it out gave Cell time to recover, nearly destroy the world necessitating Goku's sacrifice, and still came back more dangerous than ever. Gohan himself realized it was a terrible mistake afterward. It fails to say if they acknowledged Gohan's argument Cell deserved such was legit but my vague recollection of the series is no they didn't.
Should/does this, along with Jerkass Has a Point, Villain Has a Point, and Dumbass Has a Point, require in-work characters acknowledging such like with What the Hell, Hero?? And/or require in-work evidence it was intended to be a legit point?
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenIs "Notable" Word Cruft in any fashion?
Mainly talking about the usage of the word itself in the wiki and if it falls under Word Cruft, given the existence of There Is No Such Thing as Notability.

(The original entry is two bullets at the bottom of LONG list of "teen dystopia" sub-genre entry)
Ignoring how it's include as Trope Codifier (But is it? The note only claims it "started the trend more properly", not how it codifies the genre), the fact that it outright say "its author being very fond of deconstructor fleets" make me think it's more of "early deconstruction" than actual Unbuilt Trope.
