openPermission to Remove Sinkhole?
So, someone added
a Sinkhole to Characters.Heroes Of The Storm Overwatch Universe. While I sent them a notifier, they still didn't see it as a Sinkhole. So, can I remove it?
I would remove it myself. However, I don't want to risk a potential Edit War since I once removed
a Sinkhole at that area.
open Misuse in Trivia/AgentAli + Edit War?
Before Ejen Ali was localised to Agent Ali, End Bringer 99 added this example
.
- Saved by the Fans: Years of campaigned led the show being greenlit for a third season, exclusive on Hotstar.
I removed it as misuse
with this edit reason:
Nothing more ever came of this example until about 3 months after I localised the work's pages
, just about 10 days ago, in which EndBringer99 brought back the entry, albeit slightly reworded.
- Saved by the Fans: The fanbase demand saved the show from a three year cancellation.
I sent a message from the edit in question itself to say that I'd give 3 days to await a response/explanation/existence of evidence of cancellation until I'd inquire on ATT. note Is the message formatting by that method different from normal messages? Because I typed it as if the markup would work but it didn't - it looks like a mess of a paragraph. That was on 16th June and now it's an hour past midnight into the 20th in my time, and there've been a couple edits in that user's edit history since after I sent it.
I'm tempted to remove it again but I don't know if that'd account as an edit war, or if EndBringer99 is already in one, because it's technically the same page but under a different (the localised) title.
As I already stated, Saved by the Fans is for characters brought back by popular demand, and its description says that if this happens to a work, that's Un-Cancelled. However, I've found no evidence of Agent Ali ever at risk of being cancelled - there just happens to be a 3 year gap between The Movie (2019) and the upcoming 3rd season (2022).
I still await a response to see if there is any source saying the show was at risk of being cancelled because I've heard no such thing. How should I proceed? Thank you.
Edited by BlackFaithStaropenCharacter Perception Evolution misuse and example?
Character Perception Evolution states Rescued from the Scrappy Heap examples don't count as RFTSH is when the work changes them for the better while CPE is viewed differently by fans despite being unchanged. I question this CPE then.
- Ahsoka Tano debuted in Star Wars: The Clone Wars Pilot Movie and swiftly became one of the most disliked characters this side of Jar Jar Binks, being utterly despised for her obnoxious personality, her Bratty Half-Pint tendencies, and her obnoxiously cute half-naked "Cat Girl" design. A metric truckload of growth and Character Development later, and she is now fondly liked by the vast majority of both fans and critics alike who love her for her complexity and for being a foil to Anakin Skywalker. So much so that her live-action appearance in The Mandalorian was celebrated almost as much as Luke's.
I believe this might be misuse as instead Rescued from the Scrappy Heap as it's changes to her in the same series (the Pilot Movie is treated as part of it as opposed to a standalone/separate work) as opposed to how she's seen prior (my impression is her pre-Rescued character is now seen as worth the later payoff as opposed to good in and of itself). On that there's this from YMMV.Mass Effect 1.
- Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: When the game was first released, Kaidan was widely written off as a Tier Induced Scrappy due to having less biotic talents than Liara and less tech talents than Tali. As the game aged, the playerbase realized that his array of support powers was more potent than it first seemed, and he is now considered a top-tier character due to the overall power of biotics.
I believe this is Character Perception Evolution instead as it's not the work changing them. But a big part of this was Kaiden being Rescued from the Scrappy Heap in the third game contributing to the reevaluation. I assume this is a separate enough work to fit CPE as opposed to RFTSC but an asking to be sure.
openWhat exactly is a "Unilateral Move"
I’ve been having issues with other tropers recently while participating in cleanup threads. I feel that as long as am following the riles and formatting as payed out by the project that I shouldn’t have to ask for permission before I do something. I do follow indexing rules so that everything is logged for everyone to see, and I leave edit notes regarding what I’m doing and link to the specific threads.
I have been having issues with this for a while, including two suspensions. So I want to know what everyone thinks. And so that I do not bias anyone towards my line of thinking, see here
for discourse between myself and other people.
open Sci fi tv, maybe mini series, every episode for itself - very truth one.
Hi children, where can I ask for a sci tv show to find? which I can't find anywhere by even what name it was, rechecked tons of stuff.
either mini tv or 1 season tv sci fi series for aliens, every episode is for itself and there is no planet earth or humans there. I think maybe it was 6 or 8 episode or 9/10... i think just one season.
The set up was similar set up maybe of sg-1, Atlantis meaning its from somewhere between 1995-2005 most likely.. 2 of the episodes I think was part 1 and 2 for spaceships traveling, it was vivid stuff of acting, not like silence and nothing to happen.
I remember only 1 of the episode more completely: The story goes like this..
Team of scientist found the cure for all diseases for that world, they gave it (how to make it) in public speech on tv to all of the planet people which was similar of humans, something between humans with little piggy noses and ears. But the whole planet (other top scientist) told them they are crazy and the whole planet, yes every single sick soul, chased them to kill them, as basically the scientist told them they all need to die, by taking the cure. The family run away hide in their rich home, barricade and use the cure, some alchemy, biology chemical cure, one of the main character the brother got killed by the ground closely to the stage, when they had public speech, before entering the car in which the family used to run away.
Every episode is for different alien word and aliens, which many of them are humanoids, but not human.
Thanks in advance for the one who can find at least the name of the show.
openAbout an Edit Reversion Videogame
I was recently sent a warning about example indentation regarding an entry
in VindicatedByHistory.Video Games. Now, I don't disagree with the warning — I actually did make a mistake regarding what I was supposed to do indenting-wise — but since the entry was deleted wholesale, I'm not sure whether re-editing it while fixing the issues would qualify as edit warring.
The edit reason also mentions that a pothole to Condemned by History was misused, which I don't particularly agree with. At the time of its release, if I'm not mistaken, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U did have a sizable fanbase (including Tournament Play, albeit never as big of a scene as Melee had), and Brawl (which the entry was about) was forgotten by casual players for a while until the release of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate made for 3DS and Wii U's faults stand out in retrospect, rather than being "reviled from day one" like the edit reason says. Am I misremembering?
PS: I'm sorry for being a serial tweaker. I keep second-guessing myself.
Edited by LendriMujinaopenCan I add a folder here?
H. P. Lovecraft features a really long list of basically everything he ever wrote in the description section (description itself is also pretty long, but that's its own thing to look at). I was going to change the header to a folder, but I noticed there was an index tag there when I went in to edit the page. Is it okay to still add the folder in, or will that break something?
openPossible copy-paste from a book
Angry Guard Dog's Real Life section has an entry that might be copied and barely reworded from a book. Has anyone read it so they can confirm if this is the case?
- From the book The Truth About Self-Defense written by law enforcement training instructor Massad F. Ayoob:
- WATCHDOGS ...A mobile, four-footed burglar alarm. [They] bark insistently and steadily when an entry is attempted, and ... [go] to the entry point to pinpoint it for you.
The other entries don't have [...] and some have links to tropes so they might have been reworded more comprehensively.
Edited by Chabal2openFive Nights at Freddy's and Inconsistencies Videogame
The pages for the first six games are not consistent with eachother in terms of in-game information. Most have entries that've either been disproven within themselves- both from late-game or hidden information- or the other games. They are also riddled with fandom-based assuptions that have no basis within the given information, often conflicting with what was actually given in-game. I would like to start an effort to clean these pages up, but do I have to pitch a short-term project to do so- and how would I go about that, if yes- because of the scale, or, can I work on it myself in my spare time? I am asking primarily because I am not active frequently.
EDIT: Clean up effort is now live, here: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16550680110A22093300&page=1#1
openEdit Tug-of-War
(Sorry.)
Over on AwesomeMusic.Kirby (courtesy link to page's edit history
), there's been a bit of back-and-forth between nintendofanboy77
and KagSwirby
over the title of one of the Kirby franchise's recurring tracks. It seems that in the Japanese version, the track in question is titled "Clash! Gourmet Race" (as is the game mode it accompanies), but in the English translation, it's simply "Gourmet Race".
If I'm reading the page's edit history correctly, it was originally added as "Gourmet Race" many years ago (given that it's one of the series' signature tracks). KagSwirby changed it from "Gourmet Race" to "Clash! Gourmet Race" in February 2022, and nintendofanboy77 changed it back again a few days later, explaining in the edit reason that "Gourmet Race" is the English title. However, in June 2022, KagSwirby re-added "Clash!" (to multiple examples instead of just to the "main" listing on the page), and nintendofanboy77 re-deleted it; I wouldn't have thought anything of this had it not been for the latter's edit reason ('How many times do I have to re-state this: the English name is JUST "Gourmet Race."').
I have no horse in this ((clash!) gourmet) race (...I'll see myself out), but even if the wiki policy is to use official English translations where they exist, this seems to be crossing into Edit War territory.
openNeed help to avoid Edit War (bad example)
On 6th Jun 22
, Aetos added this entry to Characters.Classical Mythology Olympians:
- Benevolent Boss: When Erysichthon caused the death of one of her dryad nymphs, she fucked his shit up hard.
It's so bad case of melodramatic ZCE that I had lapse of judgement, removed it on the ground that has intense sex with the guy who killed her followers has nothing to does with being a Benevolent Boss.
They restored it with explanation that "Fuck shit up" has nothing to does with fucking. Fine, so I properly commented it out for being ZCE and pointed out in edit reason that even Mean Boss can lash on someone for take away their propeties.
Today
, Tropers/lalalei2001 uncommented it and changed the entry to this:
- Benevolent Boss: When Erysichthon caused the death of one of her dryad nymphs, Demeter took revenge by cursing him with insatiable hunger until he ate himself to death.
It's better, actually telling what happen in the story. BUT it still doesn't explain why she's an example of Benevolent Boss, just that she's vengeful when someone kill her follower. One can be abusive toward their own underlings yet angry yet someone else done it.
openEdit War alert
Hours ago
, Crazy Luigi added lone three bullets entry to the part about Blizzcon 2018 in Presentations folder of Horrible.Video Games Other.
I sent them the indentation notifier and remove the entry since it's about the game itself, not the Blizzcon (said so in edit reason). They put it back
, at least without wrong indentaion this time.
openEdit War over misuse
So on little while back troper, fugamalefica, made a page for Characters.Harry Potter Bellatrix Lestrange that was merged with a new page Characters.Harry Potter Death Eaters Inner Circle. They also added
a entry before it was merged:
- One True Love: Despite being married to Rodolphus Lestrange, Voldemort is the love of her life and the father of her child.
This entry was merged into the Inner Circle page. However, Ti M Ber 1566 removed it
with the edit reason There is no genuine love between Voldemort and Bellatrix at all. Bellatrix only "loves" Voldemort because he embodies her racist views, not for Voldemort himself." fugamalefica then re-added
it saying "Rowling herself called Voldemort the love Bellatrix's life. She is mentioned in the books to speak to him as if to a lover. To say otherwise is merely a matter of opinion." Now I know that this troper has already been suspended
for edit Warring concerning Voldemort and Bellatrix's "love". So what should be done here. I feel like the work doesn't really portray it as One True Love and given that it is a result of edit war and a tropers shipping bias. Am I good to remove?
openOne-Scene Wonder misuse?
I was checking on some examples when I found this in A Few Good Men:
openTaylor Swift's WMG page & speculations about personal life
I recently ran across Taylor Swift and I think the page needs a cleanup. While there are some valid theories and musings about the fictional characters Swift portrays in her songs, some of them get uncomfortably gossipy and speculative about her private life and orientation. I can clean it up myself, but do I need to take it to a thread somewhere? Cheers!
Edited by annieholmesopenContested Sequels for The Legend of Zelda? Videogame
The YMMV page for The Legend of Zelda has Contested Sequel with the following argument.
"Between the near-universally agreed-upon golden age of A Link to the Past to Majora's Masknote Excluding the hiatus after Link's Awakening that brought the CD-i games and the renaissance in the eyes of previously disgruntled fans with A Link Between Worlds and Breath of the Wild, many of the games released in the time between those periods became this (at least in the eyes of fans; critics largely consider the series consistently good). By far the most divisive period among fans is the DS/Wii era (Twilight Princess, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Skyward Sword), which has many fans decrying it as the low point of the series due to issues such as increased linearity, overly long intro sections and pre-dungeon quests that drag down the pacing, and decreased difficulty; however, just as many fans find the DS/Wii era on par with the rest of the series, if not the high point, thanks to their more focused gameplay, more substantial main quests, more accessible difficulty with potential for Self-Imposed Challenge. This era's greater focus on storytelling is also divisive, with many fans debating on whether the games' stories work with or make up for the increased linearity or were the cause of its problems with handholding and pacing and/or weren't good enough to make up for the linearity."
Is this entry even valid? Most of the games described in the entry were commercial and critical successes back when they were first released and even when people find flaws in those games in hindsight, they otherwise have positive opinions about this game. I already posted this question in the discussion page
and Is this an example
, just in case.
So, what do you say?

Edited by RobertTYLopenDream Episode
I have a question regarding the trope itself. This involves the Video Games section of the trope in question. Does this apply to a franchise as a whole? Like say, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Sonic Shuffle primarily takes place in a dream world. Or perhaps some licensed games such as Mickey's Ultimate Challenge or Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble. Do these qualify as "Dream Episodes" if we're considering franchises as a whole?
Edited by HarmonyBunny2000

Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale is currently divided into subpages for Distance, Energy, Mass, etc. A while ago I started seeing the subpages used as trope example entries in their own right, and I've done it a couple of times myself, e.g. linking to SciFiWritersHave. No Sense Of Distance from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds S1E01 "Strange New Worlds". But I'm wondering now if that's kosher or if I should have been linking to the top page.
