Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.

openIron Fist Live Action TV
From Series.Iron Fist 2017:
- Mighty Whitey: Averted. In the words of Scott Buck, "I can say most definitively Danny Rand is no white savior. He’s trying to save himself, if anything." If it's like the comics, Danny is just the latest IF, most of which were Asian.
Considering a) the last sentence sounds like speculation, and b) the premise of the show seems to boil down to "white guy fulfills his destiny and saves New York from evil Asian ninjas", do those sound like valid reasons to delete this entry until further notice?
Edited by dsneybufopenHero of Another Story Videogame
On the trope page for Mental Omega, a troper added an example for Hero of Another Story which I removed since I don't consider to be valid (since the heroes in question are also playable characters in their own right) but he didn't agree and added it back for this reason: 'reputting because said I watch and played the game and saw it myself'. I'm not very sure about who's right and I don't want to start an Edit War over this issue.
openStatistics sources Anime
Hi, Was reading the trope page of 'This Bites' by the Cross-Brain Group (Xomniac, CV 12 Hornet and The Patient One) and it was mentioned that 'This Bites' is the number 1 rated One piece fic, the number rated Self-Insert fic and the number 9 (or 7) fic overall on Fanfiction.net. Was wondering if you could send me a link to the source page you got your statistics from?
openSargon of Akkad (Again)
So a while ago, we discussed whether or not to delete several vlogger pages based on the idea that the vloggers were just people talking about things and not creating a work.
At the time, it was argued that Sargon Of Akkad should be allowed because he occasionally does Let's Plays of videogames. But, a recent editor stated that (in the words of Sargon himself) the channel we're troping here is his "shitposting" one, in which he makes political statements or rants against groups he dislikes. If that's true, should the matter be revisited?
(FYI, I fully admit to not watching, agreeing with or particularly liking Sargon. So I will recuse myself from the discussion.)
open Please help with the title Film
So there is this old cartoon about a little guy or maybe an insect who has a friend dog. Nobody else can hear him. He once got trapped in a bubble, he made shows and played every character himself, he lived in a clock I think. It's not popular tho. So maybe someone knows what I'm talking about???
openMy Troper Page
Hello, I am trying to start a Troper page for myself and I would like to know if there are some guidelines I have to follow when doing these sort of things.
open Massive Shoehorn and Complain On Esoteric Happy Ending.
- Gravity Falls ends with Dipper and Mabel reconciling and mended their rift from the previous events. However, the events where Mabel give the Rift to Blendin which directly caused the apocalypse in the first place and the reason she did it was never addressed, giving the impression that Mabel never really learned anything from her selfishness or her All Take and No Give relationship with her brother, especially since Dipper ended up having to sacrifice his apprenticeship with Ford just to get her out of Mableland. As a result, the future between the two is highly uncertain and they could even end up having a massive falling out much like Stan and Ford as a result of Mabel's selfishness.
I think this isnt kosher...or is it? I hope to get some consensus here.
openTo Cut or Not to Cut Anime
While adding an entry to Cross Player, I noticed that several entries for the .hack animes were in the video game folder. While moving them to the correct places, and adding namespaced links because they weren't there already, I discovered something odd.
The .hack//Roots anime doesn't actually have a page. I wouldn't sweat this normally, just add a Anime/DotHackRoots redlink and let wiki magic to the rest (I don't know the series well enough myself to trope it). That's when I saw it didn't redlink. Looking into that, it took me to an "inexact title" page w here I discovered while there's no page for the anime, there is a Tearjerker.Dot Hack Roots connected to both the main TearJerker.Anime And Manga page and to TearJerker.Dot Hack.
Given that there's no work page for it to go with, I was thinking Cut the Tearjerker.Dot Hack Roots while moving the content over to a folder in TearJerker.Dot Hack so it isn't just lost and can possibly be moved later if a .hack//Roots page does come up later. However, I wanted to double check that this was the right process or that there wasn't some other step I should look into before submitting the page to be Cut.
openNRLEP Trope Confusion
The reason for (Was it Really) Worth It? being listed in No Real Life Examples, Please! before the categorization overhaul, has said "Attracts soapboxing, provincialism, and self-indulgence". What did it mean by these? Can you also define these three TV Tropes terms?
Edited by MitchellProductionsopenIndexing Question Web Original
Where should one index the character page of a Journal Roleplay? I've seen some people put them on Characters.Play By Post Games, but since according the descriptions Play-by-Post Games and Journal Roleplays are different enough to warrant different tropes and indexes is that a good solution? I'd consider making a separate index page myself, but I don't know how to do so/if it would have to go through the Trope Launch Pad.
open My Sibling Lives Through Me, but...
So, a character's brother died. They're not twins. The brother had the goal of becoming a famous sports star, and since the character knew her recently deceased brother wanted to accomplish that dream, she decided to accomplish it herself for him.
It's not played for laughs. The two look nothing alike. Still, is this even a trope?
openMy First Edit Is Automatically Marked As YMMV, But Why? Videogame
Hello, everybody. I'm a newbie so I'm sorry if my question is answered elsewhere. I researched the issue but couldn't find anything.
My first edit signals a case of Talking To Himself in Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The situation is simple and leaves no room for factual interpretation: the dubbing actors in question provide the voices of characters who interact.
So then why is the new example point considered a YMMV entry?
openranabridged edits on YMMV/InvaderZim Western Animation
Some person named ranabridged
has been making some strange edits to the Invader Zim page, constantly neglecting full stops and commas, and even arguing with himself within his edits.
openExpy removal.
I had a quick question/issue regarding a recent edit by user Sydin on the Tales of Berseria character page. Sydin deleted this entry:
- Expy: Magilou looks identical to Tear Grants if she was wearing Teepo as an outfit. Her attitude is similar to Jade from Abyss, albeit with even less tact. Also, the over-the-top hammy nature, flowery self-promotion, outfit designed to resemble a stage magician's, and talent with a different kind of magic than other heroes brings comparisons to the Great and Powerful Trixie.
Now I added the first sentence but the user gave no reason for the removal so I wanted to bring it up here first to avoid any Edit War that could occur from readding it. While I can't speak for the MLP part of the entry, nothing in it was wrong so I wanted to check in.
Edited by keyblade333open Looking for an episode of a TV show
A long time ago, I saw a brief glimpse of a TV show episode, and I was unable to find what it was. I only remember one small part and have been unable to find it based on that part. I was hoping someone here may know what it is. The scene I saw was a woman's daughter, I believe the woman was a cop or detective. She made her daughter go home because she was around the wrong crowd I believe. While the daughter is in her room a boy shows up he was a goth kid and he may or may not have believed himself to be a vampire, I'm still fuzzy on that one. He kidnapped her, and that was all I saw. It has still stuck in my mind years later and every few months or show I try to find it, but have had no luck. Does anyone have an idea as to what it was. Thank you in advance!
openSelf-added noncanon awesome?
Steven Universe Blackthorned was added to Awesome.Steven Universe Non Canon by who I believe to be the author of the fic. While the premise does sound interesting, is it against the rules to add your own work to a noncanon awesome page?
Edited by Crossover-Enthusiastopen What's this genre? Videogame
I've now gotten a Works page for the Fairune series suitably big, but i can't figure out where to index it by genre. It's a top down game where the player explores a world gathering items, solving puzzles and beating monsters by walking into them, with multiple different maps for itself. I'd like to say Action Adventure, but it doesn't seem action-y enough for that. I don't suppose there'd be someone with a better grasp on genres over here?
For that matter, where do i go to get help with crosswicking? I could do it on ym own, but i might not have enough time to crosswick every trope on the page.
openVideo Game Movies Suck
So there are examples of Video Game Movies Suck on a few YMMV pages as examples, but not the "trope" itself. Should I remove the examples?

I'd like to create this page: Diablo-like (videogame genre) ...how can I do it? following is the text i'd like to put in the page. I submitted it to wikipedia but it doesn0t provide enough sources...although i think it makes sense.
Diablo-like is a video game subgenre, combining hack and slash and action role-playing game gameplay, named after the Diablo series. A Diablo-like (also called in the pejorative sense a Diablo-clone) features all this specifications at the same time: • Isometric/top down field of view • Real-time, action combat • Emphasis put on mouse use (movement, main attack, interaction with scenario - "point-and-click") • Loot: wearable items, quest items, power-ups, gold, etc. (usually pickable by click on a text label: different colors, different rarity/quality) • Character development: leveling leads to increase of stat/skill points, many classes available • A single player character (as opposed to party control seen in role-playing games) The main focus of the game itself is not on a deep storyline, relations with npcs or plot twists, like in other rpg subgenres, but instead great emphasis is put on the sheer “power” growth of the player-controlled character: improving its performance (meticulously monitored through mathematical parameters, like DPS or int/dex/str/vit). This subgenre usually shows great replayability value, because to reach top level with a character, multiple playthroughs are required (Diablo 3 allows an adventure mode, playing an alternate gamemode instead of replaying the main campaign). The possibility of creating multiple characters, each with different stat/skills’ assignation, extends further the game lasting appeal. Notable titles: • Sacred series • Nox • Fate series • Titan Quest • Grim Dawn • Path of Exile • Darkstone: Evil Reigns • The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing • Loki: Heroes of Mythology • Deathspank • Kult: Heretic Kingdoms • Legend: Hand of God • Torchlight 1 References • http://www.escapistmagazine.com/
