openBastard!! - page name question Anime
I noticed that the page for Bastard 1988 specifies the year in the work name, but the page itself also covers the 2022 adaptation, and the page image is from the 2022 adaptation as well.
I would suggest the 1988 be dropped from the page name — I think just "Bastard!!" is more appropriate, if the page is going to cover multiple iterations of the work — but I am not familiar with it at all (was browsing randomly), so I don't think I should make that decision.
I don't know if that would mean the WikiWord should change as well, which is a larger project.
Again, since I'm not familiar with the work, if people don't think it's an issue, no worries. If there are any changes that don't require having read or seen it, I'm happy to make them.
Edited by DiggerMopenShallow Parody removal question
Hi,
This was an entry on Shallow Parody:
- An alternative version of the meme also has the characters being "redesigned in the Vivziepop style", which depicts them as Alastor Palette Swaps, despite the fact that not all of Medrano's character designs are fancy-looking tall guys.
And it was removed for this reason:
If these reasons are valid, would it be acceptable to reword the entry to be more neutral in tone and talk specifically about the works that were the origin points of these memes?
Edited by ImperialMajestyXOopenBetter Than Canon no longer allowed on YMMV Pages? Web Original
I'm trying to find when the decision that Better Than Canon is no longer allowed on YMMV pages was made, as I recently got a notification that amounted to "It's not allowed on YMMV pages anymore, only on the page itself" and I'm like... since when? I remember seeing it on the SAO Abridged page less than six months ago. It doesn't make sense that its disallowed since its inverse, Canon Defilement, is still allowed.
What's the point of having a wiki-like format if we're not allowed to have links to pages from other pages?
Edited by PhyrexianAjani95openWhat to do with [=CN=] servers being ahead of global given potential spoiler warnings Videogame
There is a concern I have with regards to potential spoilers in Reverse: 1999 due to CN servers being two patches ahead of global.
I am of the general opinion that, because of how critical R1999 is when it comes to its narrative driven approach, publicly listing CN characters ahead of global will, in itself be highly spoilery (i.e. Moldir being playable is in itself, incredibly spoiler heavy for global) and may lead to the potential snowball effect of editors just outright listing lore-heavy spoiler tropes way ahead of what global players are expecting.
While I have heard that other gacha pages like GFO and Arknights have their CN listed characters, I don't think Reverse should follow what these other communities do with regards to their CN stuff.
Spoilers is a hazard in R1999 and there is a large sub-set of R1999 players who actively want to avoid all CN news. If I was a unassuming global player that would like to read the character pages of Reverse, I would have zero warning that CN characters alongside potential CN spoilers would appear once I scroll down (assuming we go ahead with publicly listing the CN stuff). Given that there is no warning in the character pages of R1999, what can we do?
I prefer just hiding all CN stuff until global catches up to that patch. Nevertheless, I would like some advice or consensus here on what to do with this and how to construct these pages if needed.
openSelf-Erotic Troping in Crossover War pages
A quick glance at the History of the Fridge page for The TV Tropes Character Crossover War reveals it was created and almost exclusively edited by contributors and writers of the work, including a Troper who was bounced for reasons tied to it. With what I believe to be the majority of edits (at best) coming from writers of the work, should the page be cutlisted or should it be dealt with by deleting the edits of the contributors to bring it back in line with the site's rules on Self-Erotic Troping?
(Forgive me for making an ATT for this, it seems we don't have a thread for Fridge Clean-up where I could've brought this up.)
openRough grammar
stemy has rough grammar— examples:
Some had already been corrected, I fixed the rest, but I checked and there are serious errors in basically every edit they've made, so it seemed worth a report
Edited by Tremmor19openCharacter folder using another character's quote instead of the folder subject's own. Film
Over a year ago from now sapphyblue changed the character quote
at the beginning of Mark Hoffman's folder on Saw: Jigsaw and Accomplices (which I was a regular editor at back then).
The original quote was said by Hoffman himself:
For some reason, sapphyblue decided to choose a quote about him by another character instead:
I find this change pretty odd, because not only is it standard for character folders to have quotes said by the character themselves (unless they don't speak at all, at which I think it's acceptable to use a quote from another character describing them), in the current quote Hoffman is being described from the perspective of another character rather than his own, and as someone who knows the context of the films best, I think the original quote did a better job at summarizing Hoffman's own character and his moral conflict with John (that's the theme of both quotes).
I'd like to change the character folder quote back to what it originally was, with a link to this query to avoid making the change look like an Edit War; I was originally responsible for moving the original line from image caption to folder quote, but I didn't write it in the first place, and I don't think reverting a change from over a year ago can easily come off as edit warring (unless it's clear that one of the tropers is deliberately changing things back to their liking, as in a very slow-paced edit war). But what are your thoughts on this issue, and what would you suggest me to do if you don't think switching it back myself is the best option?
openEasily Forgiven playing withs/lack audience reaction part?
Easily Forgiven is now YMMV, which no longer allows playing withs. So I question these (otherwise valid given they got audience contention) MLP examples.
YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 2 E 26 A Canterlot Wedding Part 2: Granted, they were tricked and all, but Twilight holds absolutely no resentment towards everypony for turning their backs on her. It must be the two seasons worth of friendship lessons. Just copied from the main page. Doesn't explain why audiences found the forgives too easy. (Also a whole rabbit hole of fans debate about matter.)
YMMV.My Little Pony Equestria Girls 1: Sunset Shimmer goes from attempting to murder the Mane Six to being accepted as their friend in the span of about three minutes. Previously removed
as played with (downplayed/played for laughs in first movie, subverted/deconstructed in sequel). If a character is no longer considered this (given how effectively sequel redeemed her), is it retroactively not an example? Does factually inaccurate reasons for the audience reaction disqualify it or not?
YMMV.My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic S 5 E 26 The Cutie Remark Part 2: Debatable, as Starlight did witness how her actions could've destroyed all of Equestria and has to live with that fact, which she clearly feels horrible about. She also had to travel to Our Town and seek their forgiveness. It is also discussed as Applejack points out that someone like Starlight can't be let to roam around free as powerful and unhinged as she is and Twilight pointing out how powerful friendship really is in Equestria. Not to mention that no-one seems to even mention all the serious crimes Starlight had committed in this episode, some of which (conspiring against and assaulting a crowned princess) could even be considered acts of treason against Equestria. Move just swapped "Played with" for "Debatable". Half arguing for/against applying as written.
Questions about reworking to be valid:
- Do they have to explain the audience reaction to the forgiveness to be valid EF?
- How to keep the Sunset and Starlight examples from being redundant with Unintentionally Unsympathetic which already covers the reasons audiences say them such? Should UU just not mention in-universe forgiveness?
- What to do with Broken Base examples? Should fan debate on such be included if applicable? Or does that make it too arguing against self and should go under BB or Base-Breaking Character entires instead?
Asking here because every time I asked the EF cleanup thread, I kept getting no feedback to my questions.
openSelf-Demonstrating Fawful page Videogame
So I've noticed someone had already attempted to create the aforementioned Fawful page sometime ago, though it was removed for being too "vanilla". Considering I have an interest in making a page for him (and I feel he firs all 3 of the criterion), would it be safe to create a new section just for him?
(If this is a dumb question I'm sorry lol)
openNeed second opinion of the existing content of a page I'm going to start contrbuting to
Now that I've started playing Echoes of the Plum Grove, I'm paying more attention to its page. Reading it, I have a nagging feeling that some of its content has no business being on the main page. I'm also afraid of deleting things I shouldn't if I only trust my own judgement. I'm wondering if someone else would be kind enough to give that page a read and tell me what is geniunely out of place, and I'll do the modifications myself when I find the time.
openVery poor quality edits from Tropers/SubZero008
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/EldenRingDemigodsTwins
They changed the Full-Circle Revolution entry from this,
"Somewhat Downplayed in that his Age of Compassion is halted before it comes to fruition, but Miquella has always sought to end the oppression of the Golden Order and made the Haligtree as a sanctuary for the shunned. Shadow of the Erdtree sees him attempt apotheosis to bring a more peaceful world, yet in doing so, he leaves the fate of the Haligtree uncertain by using Mohg to get him out and let him enter the Land of Shadow. Along his journey, he sets aside everything that he has, including his restraints and capacity to love, which is dangerous when combined with his ability to hypnotically convert others. If St. Trina and both Soreseal descriptions are to be believed, in that becoming a god would only be a guilded cage, Miquella's goals would leave him in a similar state to that of Marika in the Erdtree. Furthermore, it's implied that anyone who would oppose him (like the Tarnished during phase 2 of the Final Boss) would be forced into cooperation via his powers. The Circlet Of Light he leaves is described as the "foundation" of his Age Of Compassion, and a symbol resembling it will appear above anyone caught by the Promised Consort's heart-stealing grab. With a loyal musclebound champion at his side to reinforce his all-controlling era, as both Godfrey and Radagon did for Marika, Miquella offers a system that's just as uncaring and with as many flaws as the original Golden Order he sought to supplant."
To this
"Averted. Despite the absurd conflating from tropers who fundamentally misunderstand the most basic moral dilemnas whenever a story writes a conflict or dilemna that doesn't easily fit into existing tropes or isn't constantly recycled over and over in popular media...Marika's order was founded on and repeatedly enacted genocide for cultural, religious, personal, or even purely racist grounds. Constantly saying Miquella is "just as bad" or "will be just as bad" or "was just as cruel" or all that other idiotic nonsence that blatantly disregards the actual writing in the game is unbelievably wrong. It's like trying to teach three-year old children out of black and white thinking. Miquella spent the vast majority of his life and career trying to directly address the consequences of the multiple genocides and literal world-destroying wars his mother AND his fellow siblings waged - and because he used immoral tactics or used violence as a tool himself, he's suddenly conflated as being "just as bad" as his mother? It's amazing to see how Ranni is being worshipped as a "good counterpart" to Miquella on this website despite literally causing the entire war with no regrets, motivated solely by her personal liberation, and Radahn is likewise worshipped as being a "heroic" lover of war who also enacted mass violence (including flame weapons and torture machines) to pursue his personal goals, and Mesmer who LITERALLY ENACTED GENOCIDE is mourned as a "tragic villain" who "didn't really want to do it"...yet Miquella ALSO using violence for a benevolent end goal is condemned as being the worst of them all? What a fucking joke"
It's not being done on a YMMV page, but the character page. Barring its general inflammatory nature, the spelling mistakes, and the fact they use a lot of unnecessary capital words and swearing, I feel like it just reads like a rant. Should I revert the edit back to the original.
openMadea Film
In the Characters/Madea characters page, the main characters only consist of Madea, Joe, and Cora. No one else. With others like Brian, Mr Brown, Hattie appearing in the other pages, what can I do?
Can moment pages start as Sandbox pages? For example, what if I do a Funny page for I Can Do Bad All By Myself, Madea’s Big Happy Family, A Madea Homecoming, etc and I mention something about Madea and Joe, I’m not sure how many examples are needed?
Edited by LarrytheKingopenCommented-out note problems
So I've just caught up on Raise Your Voice Against Liars and decided to give its tropes page a long-overdue clean-up. However, when I went in to edit it, I discovered this commented-out note at the top of the page that was apparently added by the authors, the contents of which are making me wary.
Before any more tropes are added here, we feel the need to address something:
Please remember that this AU takes place several months after Miracle Queen, and at the start of the fic, Marinette is still being bullied by Lila and has literally no one helping her besides Luka and Kagami. She's even attempted to commit suicide because of it! It’s what’s called a formative moment for Marinette’s mentality; of course she’s going to change and not be the ‘same Marinette from the show.’
Also, regarding Adrien: we understand he’s going through abuse too, and we agree that such is shitty behavior from Gabriel and Nathalie, but his actions are still his own, and there ARE consequences for them whether they be good or bad! He has barely helped Marinette with Lila, even though he can SEE that Lila is still hurting Marinette! Also, so far in the fic, the Phantom Thieves aren’t completely aware of Adrien’s situation at home. They only know as much as Marinette, Nino, and the other Parisians have told them. Obviously, due to this lack of knowledge, they will treat him in ways that some might consider being too harsh. When/if they actually come to understand what’s really going on in Adrien's home life, chances are they’ll change their tune a little, but right now, in THEIR minds, there’s not really a reason for them to do so. Please keep that in mind when you’re making your edits to this TV Tropes page.
The story itself has pointed out they both had full knowledge of his home life and were completely in the wrong for their continued harsh treatment of him. He deserved consequences for how he handled Lila, but he grew as a person and they knowingly left him in the care of a murderer. Please keep that in mind as well.
I'm well-aware that Adrien's already a controversial character in ML, and that said controversy bled into the fic's reception and then some; I haven't checked the edit history of the page, but I'm getting the distinct feeling there may have been an edit war or two about it. However, well-intentioned or not, this is still basically the author telling others how they have to edit the page, right?
Between that and how it's artificially inflating the page length, is it okay for me to remove this?
Edited by Storygirl000opencan you add a trope? Videogame
Hi! i noticed something really cool during the video game secret of the mimic, Big Top's chase sequence has a few random paths that can be chosen for the chase. i think this randomness is awesome and want to see it added to the awesome section of the secret of the mimic page if that's cool? I'd do it myself but i don't know how to or if i even can, not to mention i don't know tropes very well so i don't even know what trope to put it under. thank you for your time have a nice day
openClockwork Orange Animated Short (18+) Film
Hey, does anyone remember an erotic animated short film from the '70s that was supposedly shown before A Clockwork Orange? I read about it on TV Tropes once but can't find it again—might’ve had a name like Love in the Afternoon or something similar.
If it helps, I vaguely recall it saying something about how Kubrick himself handpicked it as the perfect "cartoon before the main show" for his movie when showing in select cinemas.
It had a real Yellow Submarine meets Fritz the Cat sorta feel to it, psychedelic colours, and of course, graphic sex scenes.
It's really been bothering me that I cant find it anywhere. It was a really wacky deep cut, almost like lost media.
openPotentially inappropriate Troper page?
So, a troper by the name of MissRoboto edited a page I followed, and, checking their page, I found a single folder on it labelled "some of my pet peeve tropes", and its only contents are "none. because i know how to not make a fool of myself on the internet by not whining about stupid gay bullshit." Before this, they also appear to have changed their page to only read "wow this place is a freakshow. i dont respect literally any of you people —Anonymous Neopets forum poster" (link)
. I will be brutally honest and admit I do have my share of qualms regarding certain aspects of this site, but surely this has to be a violation of some policy?
openVideo Games folder in Gondor Calls for Aid
It's not alphabetized compared to the other folders. Is it okay for me to move the folder since it might count as a "big edit"? Just the folder itself, I'm currently busy to alphabetize the contents within.

On Characters. The Amazing Digital Circus Players, xVanitas is edit warring:
I haven't watched the episode but the consensus is that all the edits reek of Ron the Death Eater-esque agenda editing.
