Before the dewicking of Kill Em All as a trope, the Foil entry on Biker's folder in Characters.Hotline Miami looked like this:
- Foil: To Jacket. Both of them are masked killers with psychotic tendencies, but whereas Jacket invokes Kill Em All and is motivated by revenge, Biker kills only because he finds it fun, yet can spare a whole lot of people. Furthermore, Biker openly talks and is rather forward, while Jacket is silent. Most importantly, however, Biker found out the truth about the phone calls and pulled a Screw This, I'm Out of Here! upon getting his answer, while Jacket falsely concluded that the calls came from the Russian Mafyia and slaughters its leadership instead, further advancing 50 Blessings' goals. Jacket then lets himself get caught by the police without ever learning the truth, dying in custody thanks to a nuking brought by an organization whose goals he advanced. By contrast, Biker may have survived the nuking while hiding in the desert, as he knew the implications of the truth.
After the dewicking, on the beginning of January 2023, Robert TYL removed the bolded part, making it look like this (note that this also includes a grammar correction done by another troper months later):
- Foil: To Jacket. Both of them are masked killers with psychotic tendencies, but whereas Jacket is motivated by revenge, Biker kills only because he finds it fun, yet can spare a whole lot of people. Jacket then lets himself get caught by the police without ever learning the truth, dying in custody thanks to a nuking brought about by an organization whose goals he advanced. By contrast, Biker may have survived the nuking while hiding in the desert, as he knew the implications of the truth.
The removal of the bolded part makes Biker's point of "can spare a whole lot of people" come out of nowhere an unrelated. As such, I'd like to restore the bolded part with Leave No Survivors, since it's still a trope and fits Jacket's description better than the original Kill Em All.

Edited by Inky100openIs Majora's Mask Low Fantasy Videogame
So Majora’s Mask is listed as Low Fantasy, but as a huge Majora’s Mask fan myself, I really think it doesn’t in any way fis Low Fantasy. I’m sure it was deleted in the past, but it looks like it was added back.
The entry claims Magic is less present than other Zelda games and that the plot of Majora's mask is more grounded with realistic things.
To list how magic is ‘’extremely’’ prominent as well as how the plot and the setting are not realistic.
- Far from using basic magic, Link can:
- Time Travel
- Slow down time as well as fast forward through time.
- Shapeshift into other people via healing their ghosts. One of these transformations (Fierce Deity), is even a creature, created by the memories of all the people of the land that Link befriended.
- Teleport
- Create decoys of himself.
- Summon a living Scarecrow.
- See and talk to ghosts, sometimes turning them into magical masks.
- Transform into a 50 foot tall giant.
- Turn his arrows into beams of Fire, Ice and Light.
- There’s many Fantastic monsters and creatures even by the standards of the Zelda series, whom are all treated as normal by regular citizens, including:
- Plant people that shoot bubbles or nuts and can fly with magical flowers.
- Rock people that can roll into balls and move at superhuman speeds.
- Fish people that run a rockband using sea animals as instruments.
- Fairies that are common knowledge and the citizens of town regularly visit.
- An entire valley and city composed of undead like Ghosts, Mummies, Skeletons and Zombies.
- Snowlems just outside town.
- Alien ghosts!
- Locations are extremely weird like a dungeon that you repeatedly have to change gravity in.
- Time Travel and shapeshifting via magical masks are central elements in general.
- The Big Bad is a demonic Evil Mask possessing an Undead Child and commanding a gigantic army of very strange monsters. He was also friends with the Giants that literally created the world he lives in.
- There’s a living scarecrow just walking around town that is treated as normal.
- Many ordinary citizens possess Masks of Power, they even explain to you bestow magical abilities upon their wearer.
- Gonk-ish witches are regular merchants.
- Other fantastic things include Talking Animals as well as Funny Animals, including a possibly Cybernetic beaver
- The Magic effects of the milk from the milkbar is well known and even a point of advertisement.
And I can’t find it at this moment, but in an interview, with one of the game’s writers, possibly Aonuma, he stated he added in whimsical and dream like elements into the game to offset another writer when he added scary stuff.
Make no mistake, I love Majora’s Mask, but it doesn’t seem to fit the trope at all.
Even in the Zelda series, I feel The Legend Of Zelda 1 is more Low Fantasy, though I don’t think it fits the trope either.

openSelf-reporting: Any evidence of an edit war here? Videogame
I'm self-reporting about if I started an Edit War in a Goddamned Bats entry of my own in the YMMV page of Diner Dash.
Back in the middle of July, I added the entry, which read as follows:
- Similarly to the Cellphone Addicts, the Cavemen in Flo Through Time make noise that drains other customers' patience, though they're pretty quick eaters and leave in no time if attended quickly, in addition to being more patient.
Then at the end of the month, Shaker Troper 2002 corrected the entry in accordance to how the Goddamned Bats in question actually behaved (unlike what I initially thought about them).
- Similarly to the Cellphone Addicts, the Cavemen in Flo Through Time make noise that drains other customers' patience, though they're pretty quick eaters and leave in no time if attended quickly. Like cellphone addicts, their own patience also drains fast as well.
A couple months later (just now), I noticed that the entry was edited, so I decided to rearrange it a bit so it looks clean and organized, without changing any of the context addressed. It currently reads like this:
- Similarly to the Cellphone Addicts, the Cavemen in Flo Through Time have a low patience of their own and make noise that drains other customers' patience, though they're also pretty fast eaters and leave in no time if attended quickly.
I know this self-report might be quite dumb, but I did it just in case there was some issue, since I didn't intend to do anything against ShakerTroper2002 nor start an Edit War in general.
Edited by Inky100openFinal Fantasy XVI ButNotTooGay example removed, no edit reason Videogame
I added But Not Too Gay on Final Fantasy XVI recently, but it was removed by Diracspuddle without an edit reason, to which I've sent them a notifier for. The user is infrequently active, so I don't expect an answer back soon. Edit made here
.
In the context of FFXVI not shying away from some partial nudity and sex scenes where they make use of camera work to hide the naughty bits and kiss scenes between male-female pairings being generally more involved than the one gay kissing scene (characters are further away from the camera with their heads/hair blocking out the kiss itself), in addition to the gay couple not interacting romantically after that point, it seemed like it fit enough for me to be an example.
Is it fine to add the example back in?
Edited by YourIdeasopenSwitching page type Videogame
I want to turn the Skylanders page from "Video Game" to "Franchise" in order to be able to make individual pages for the games (since when I try to make the pages, they get redirected to the main series page rather than becoming a new page). Is it as simple as just creating a Franchise page and then asking for the Video Game page to be deleted? Can I do it myself here and now or do I need to consult other tropers to do it?
openAn example that really irks me, I want to correct it but I dont know the thread. Videogame
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisinglyHappyEnding
- Final Fantasy VI seems like it's well on its way some kind of tragic or heavily bittersweet ending after Kefka destroys the world, but whether it gets that way is entirely up to the actions of the player, as any party deaths, as well as the death of Cid, are entirely preventable, with the only hero who's unaccounted for being Banon, and once the party defeats Kefka the ending goes out of its way to show that the "World of Ruin" is on its way to recovery.
This entry completely glosses over the extinction of an entire race of magical beings. The only survivor is the main character Terra who only survived because she's half human. I wanted to add this fact but If I did then it wouldnt be the trope or at least it would argue with itself which is a nono.

Edit by me
, on the Good Bad Bugs entry, i changed it from:
- When part 3 of Canto IV came out, there was a bug where Sloth and Wrath Power Up, instead of increasing the respective sin's power by 1 per stack, would increase their damage by 100% per stack instead. This, particularly combined with Yi Sang's already powerful Sunshower EGO and synergystic Spicebush ID, resulted in Yi Sang being able to completely decimate waves by himself and casually deal 4-digit damage to Abnormalities with multiple parts.

Which has the major problem of "100%" being equal to a multiplier of 1, basically saying it increases the sin power damage by 1 per stack, when the bug is about the power increase being more like 100 times because of said bug.
I feel like the other editor misunderstood what "100%" would actually mean in a mathematical context, and i'd like the misunderstanding to be cleared up for them before an Edit War breaks out.
Edited by SomeLibreopenFFVIII Hyne fanon Videogame
Since this was from 2017, I figured this was a better route than trying to PM—but back then I added a Fanon entry under Final Fantasy VIII's YMMV page describing the phenomenon of ficcers having characters use "Hyne" as a standard bit of blasphemy (e.g. someone yelling "Hynedammit" instead of "goddammit") even though nobody speaks this way in the game itself—instead, they just use God the same way people in Real Life who are agitated, surprised, and/or upset would shout God. This was removed from the game's YMMV page a little while later with no edit reason, although it's still on the overal Final Fantasy page. I only noticed it now but since it would still technically constitute an Edit War, I wanted to bring it up before re-adding it.
openNot quite a straight example? Videogame
From the Video Game section of Somebody Doesn't Love Raymond:
' 'Psychonauts 2: According to Lili, Truman Zanotto is the only person who doesn't like the workplace-beloved mail clerk Nick Johnsmith, regarding him as a sycophantic Yes-Man. (Or in his words, an "obsequious little lickspittle".)''
This entry, while accurate, isn't quite a straight example - the reason is that Truman Zanotto is Nick Johnsmith, who is actually a deposed tyrant seeking revenge. Truman has "Nick's" brain inside him, while "Nick" has been rendered mindless. So in truth, the person "Truman" apparently doesn't love is himself.
While complicated, what does this detail make this entry? A subversion? Played with? Zig-Zagged? I'm not sure but it's not as straightforward as the trope implies.
Edited by DragonFaxopenhow much natter is allowed on headscratchers? Videogame
Parts of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is reading like a micro-forum as people add replies.
See the entire folder below I pulled from the page (reminder: contains unmarked spoilers):
- Perhaps she doesn't want to be coronated until Hyrule is at least restored to a basically functional kingdom again? Alternatively, she may be awaiting some ceremonial age of majority (as she is still biologically a teenager) or there may even be some kind of ancient dynastic tradition requiring her to complete some ritual, quest, or even just getting married before assuming formal queenship.
- As the original question noted, she's probably not biologically a teenager as years are implied to have passed since the first game, however, it is noted at the start of the game that Hyrule Castle has fallen even further into a state of disrepair. Further, Zelda and Link have been living in a simple home together since the Calamity. Perhaps until the castle is restored Zelda can't officially become queen, or she simply sees other matters as more important for now. The nation was able to hold itself together with just its regional leaders for a hundred years, so presumably there is no hurry to crown a new king or queen.
- Neither Link nor Zelda have gotten noticeably older or taller in the interim, compared to the adult Hylians we meet they're still significantly shorter. However much time has passed between games, it seems very unlikely to have to have been the real life six years.
- Indeed, probably not six years. But Zelda was seventeen before she went into stasis with Ganon. Given Hylians grow and age like humans, she wouldn't likely get any taller (most girls have reached their max height by sixteen). Link might as men can grow for a few more years, but chances are they are both just shorter than average Hylians.
- It seems rather unlikely that both Link and Zelda would have remained exactly the same physically if significant amounts of time had passed. Further, Riju is at an age where she ought to be growing significantly were much time to have passed, and yet, hairstyle aside, she doesn't appear to have changed much. I can see little reason to assume that anything more than a handful of months have passed between the games.
- Hudson and Rhondson (who are introduced to each other by Link during Breath of the Wild) have a daughter that's old enough to read and write (and has the usual "young child" model for the Gerudo), it's undeniably that at least around 5 years have passed, any character that didn't change was just due to the designers not wanting to redesign them. As for the original Headscratchers, Zelda probably doesn't want to get crowned before she's helped the kingdom recover in a more hands on way, or something like that.
- For another bit of proof that Link is older and simply short, he's now able to order the Noble Pursuit drink from the Gerudo that he was regarded as too young for in Breath of the Wild.
- The Noble Pursuit Link can order is specifically stated to be a new recipe that all ages can enjoy; the creator even comments that normally Link would still be too young to drink the old version.
- Which just raises questions about what is it about that drink that requires such a high age. Especially when to my knowledge it is never even said to be alcoholic. Regarding Riju, she did get taller. She was about half a head shorter than Link in the previous game, but now from what I can tell is slightly taller than him.
- It probably is alcoholic, but they wouldn't be able to say as such explicitly without raising the age rating and so just had to imply it.
- It could be simply that a royal title doesn't have much priority for Zelda. Given how humble she is, she's probably more concerned with her reasearch, her personal life and helping out everyone, wherever she can. Given how harsh her life was as a princess prior to the calamity, she may even prefer the lifestyle as a commoner, rather than going back to being royalty.
- The above explanation is supported by the fact that Zelda has been living in Link's house in Hateno Village, while in Hyrule Castle there are no signs of her having moved back there.
- It's questionable whether the kingdom of Hyrule even exists anymore. The kingdom was destroyed over a 100 years ago, and ever since then various regions and towns of Hyrule have been self-governing units that work just fine without a higher king/queen above their regional leader. The majority of Hyrulians don't even have any memory of a unified rule, since only among the Zora is there a large number of people who were alive before the Calamity. Considering all this, maybe Zelda doesn't even want to try and restore the kingdom? What right does he have to force her rule on people who have been living without such rule for generations? The reason why everyone still calls her Princess Zelda might be out of tradition, or out of respect for her part in ending the Calamity, not because they still consider her to be their future ruler.
While I understand the game is still new and everyone including me wants to talk about it, but it feels like questions are getting derailed just because parts of the game were missed (which is reasonable given how big the game is) or just segueing into a different discussion entirely.
The original question is just over Zelda's title as princess but it's derailed into a discussion about the time gap between Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild and other parts of the game with not too much relevance beyond "Zelda should be old enough to be queen".
Is this just normal Headscratchers discussion?
Should I delete the parts that are derailing from the original question? Or should I just move the discussion into a separate folder entirely since I think discussing the game's Time Skip does have some merit.
EDIT: last-minute edit of spoilers, I haven't used this site for a while (specifically ATT) and thought my post would be cut off a little when I posted.
Edited by INeveropenHow to approach adressing a problematic aspect of this work(Little Witch Nobeta) Videogame
Considering addressing the Little devs offical Twitter provocative posts but not sure how to approach it given the account contains explicit posts over the protagonist and bosses.
Mainly because it's worth discussing since the game it's self is rather tame, outisde a few questionable outifts, and takes its self seriously but the offical twitter accounts post brazenly erotic and suggestive posts from time to time enough that it's rather noticeably jarring to compare the two.
Note this is an issue mainly because of this site's stance on "pedobait"
Though on a more minor not sure what tag to use for a "sexual advertisement tame work" kind of thing.
open Fridge Horror issue with Balrog-De-Morgoth Videogame
The other day I added an entry on Fridge.Hogwarts Legacy about the character Ominis Gaunt and how his family's history of inbreeding was likely the result of him being born blind. To me this seemed like a reasonable deduction considering that hereditary blindness from inbreeding has been scientifically observed, but the user Balrog-De-Morgoth removed my entry and asserted that Ominis' blindness had to be magical in nature because many other non-magic diseases and disabilities have magical cures. However, there have been no specific cases in the Wizarding World canon where healing eyes by magic to restore vision has been shown, as evidenced by the various characters that wear eyewear, including Harry Potter himself.
I re-added my entry again and explained my reasoning above, but Balrog-De-Morgoth removed it a second time, this time citing that Pottermore lists cures for non-magical diseases including cancer, but then claimed that because the character of Mad-Eye Moody has a magical replacement eye, that was also reason enough to remove my entry. This is ignoring the fact that Moody's eye is a replacement, not his original eye which was healed, and therefore completely irrelevant my point. While there is also the fact that Ominis' wand reacted specifically to him being blind, this still does not indicate that his blindness is caused by magic since the way wands work is left very mysterious, and Ominis himself states in-game that he was born blind.
Is it alright for me to put my Fridge entry back up? Plus I also feel that removing a Fridge entry because you disagree with it is bad etiquette.
Edited by ChipGoffOfRORopenX-Men Mutant Academy 2? Videogame
So, X-Men Mutant Academy 2 has no page, and it looks like it was cut. But also, the Mutant Academy 1 page has no info on 2 (and itself only has 2 tropes). The big differences between 1 and 2 are an expanded roster, including a secret guest character in Spider-Man and expanded game mechanics, but that's still worth troping it, at least I think. What would be better, re-making the Mutant Academy 2 page, or consolodating the existing page for 1 to cover both of them?
Next Dimension (which is basically MA 3) has its own page, but that makes sense as it's a vastly different game than the other 2.

Felt like I have to ask this question hoping for those who are way more familiar with how this wiki works to give their thoughts as well. Wall of text warning though, as this does not involve only one video game. But a TL;DR is that some Gacha Games on this wiki have long character descriptions because they're also including gameplay information and other fluff, while there's a debate on whether one game should copy another similar game's way of handling descriptions. Who knows if the descriptions run the risk of going into Walkthrough Mode? Just how much "fluff" can really be added there?
For those who are not familiar with the above two games, the older and longer way of writing descriptions can still be seen on Characters.Genshin Impact Fischl, divided into paragraphs or parts:
Note that the character descriptions for Star Rail used to have simple descriptions, yet there are tropers who massively expanded them to focus on their gameplay. The discussion on the descriptions started a month ago
... Several tropers (including myself) have already weighed in our thoughts on why trimming was necessary, though the discussion was mostly between tropers zero5889 and Ner0014re N, with the latter being the one who mostly did the trimming after getting plenty of responses from those who agree.
Personally, I agreed trimming specifically the "fluff" part of the third paragraph
, stating fluff doesn't really make sense depending on the character... as if other tropers were trying to link gameplay upgrades/passives and lore when they can be misinterpreted in another way, or are not exactly Gameplay and Story Integration at all. Welt's old character description in Characters.Honkai Star Rail Astral Express used to have such kind of fluff that don't really make sense if you're into the lore of the character.
The newer and shorter way of writing descriptions can now be seen on Characters.Honkai Star Rail Astral Express. Generally, there's no longer a paragraph talking about "character progression systems".
For what it's worth though, games like Arknights and Honkai Impact 3rd were written with concise/very simple character descriptions for years now (and tropers who are/were very active on maintaining them kept it that way), and yet troper zero5889 insisted that Honkai Impact 3rd needs some structuring on character pages, and suggested
that "detailed descriptions" for gachas like Arknights are long overdue.
But should it be the case? Are detailed character descriptions for Gacha Games really necessary?
If it would seem like troper zero5889 is planning to restructure character pages or rewrite descriptions on Gacha Games, they did confirm
they are going to give the character pages of Honkai Impact 3rd a look in the future. zero5889 also went to the Arknights forum
to suggest a rearranging of Arknights character pages to group them by "subclass" instead of general class, but several tropers objected and say it would just be overcomplicating things.
Recently on the Discussion tab
for Star Rail, there's another troper who disagreed on the trimming effort of some ability descriptions in Star Rail (particularly the removal of the "character progression systems" paragraph), like a week or so after the actual trimming edits were being done... suggesting the character descriptions of Genshin and Star Rail should still have a similar way of writing.
The trimming effort went through because many tropers agreed with it (like a majority vote, or so), but there are still those few who disagree (likely unware that a month-long discussion already happened).
