openAnime & Manga subsections Anime
I know the question of how to handle anime and manga as media has long caused questions, but now most of our example sections are titled "Anime and Manga". With a few odd exceptions, such as So Bad, It's Good.Anime. This may be because few mangas are listed on the page (bad animation adds a lot to the narm). By contrast, Horrible.Anime And Manga has "Anime" alone as a redirect; meaning SBIG links to Horrible but not the other way around.
Would it be alright if I were to move pages like SBIG to "Anime And Manga", making "Anime" and "Manga" into redirects?
openEdit war on Hades' YMMV page. Videogame
On the YMMV page for Hades, troper _____________
added an example for Narm:
- Narm: The game is rated T, so it can't show anything too crazy, but what we hear in the blacked-out sex scenes that include Thanatos largely consists of what can be described as awkwardly serious chuckling, perhaps with a crack of Megaera's whip.
A few days later, Zaptech
removed this example, with the edit reason "Pretty sure that this is intentionally humorous.". Then, a few days after that, _____________ added it back, with the edit reason, "Well, I find it unintentionally humorous.".
I decided to bring this here because, besides it officially being an Edit War, this seems to being something that _____________ has done before (ie. add a YMMV example based more on his own opinions than the general opinion of the fans), as a comment on this post
for Demon's Souls brought up him doing this with an example for Anti-Climax Boss
openMassive addition to Nostalgia Critic YMMV page
minikiss just added a massive
trope-slashed (pretty ridiculous because those items are so often misused for one another, we don't need to lump them under the same bullet) Critical Research Failure / Cowboy BeBop at His Computer entry to YMMV.The Nostalgia Critic. I believe the previous CRF / CBBAHC subpages for the show were previously cut to be examined more in-depth and I suspect not everything here counts as either trope - and even if it does, it should be made into subpages. Maybe on the discussion page, the short-term Nostalgia Critic cleanup, or the CRF thread, we should pick apart which examples are actually valid and split it into two entries for CRF and CBBAHC?
I'm mostly bringing it to ATT because I'm wondering if minikiss has an agenda against the series as they previously
edit-warred over a misused Seasonal Rot entry and also added a misused Hype Backlash entry.
EDIT: Actually I think this is the exact text of the originally-cut CowboyBeBopAtHisComputer. The Nostalgia Critic subpage that was cut for just complaining. So would this be considered edit-warring? This also makes me more suspicious that minikiss has an agenda against this show. (Checking their edits, it makes sense because they're also an entry pimp for a Youtuber who is notorious for hating Channel Awesome. Nothing wrong with that, but the edit-warring to add negativity for NC is when it gets concerning.)
EDIT 2: The troper also seems to have an issue with trope-slashing on other pages
(changing a Narm entry to Narm / Narm Charm).
openNicoaln
- Monster Hunter Rise YMMV
(violation of Repair, Don't Respond, already fixed)
- Last Scenario YMMV
(Word Cruft in one entry and improper indentation in another)
- Guild Wars YMMV
("I'm gonna edit this entry which has Word Cruft and also violates RDR, fixing those two while I'm at it be damned")
- AFF subpage of World of Warcraft
(misindentation in an edit and violation of RDR in another)
- Arc Fatigue
(misindentation)
They don't seem like too many cases, as they're in the midst of many edits on Funny and Fridge subpages (whose editing standards are regrettably low), but I had sent a large number of Issue Helpers to Nicoaln in the past for improper indentation and/or natter-like additions. The persistence of these issues in these edits, plus the fact that at times I have resigned to fixing occasional issues from them without PM'ing them (because I know they are aware of the issues), led me to bring this query today.
EDIT: Spotted an extra case I overlooked:
- Narm subpage of Final Fantasy
(misindentation)
openNarm misuse on DC Extended universe Film
So I found this in DC Extended Universe
The way the movie’s Broken Aesop comes about. Diana spends the entire movie convinced that Ludendorff is really Ares and, if she kills him, the war will automatically end. At the end, she kills him only to find out he isn’t Ares and Humans Are Bastards that don’t need to be swayed by a mystical god of war to try to kill each other. Except no, Diana just had the wrong guy and, yes, Ares really did influence and aggravate the war (even if he claims he didn't outright cause it). And once he's dead, the war’s over. Now strictly this is due to an armistice taking effect just when Ares dies, but the way it's framed, it looks like the enemy soldiers come out of a trance because Ares died and they even start hugging Diana's allies. The way the movie so deftly undoes the previous two hours of build-up is a thing to behold.
Umm...but the point is that Ares might have swayed them into doing it but it was still their idea to actually make the decision which he does by playing on their prejudices that are already their Also this is written really weirdly.

openEdit war on YMMV.AtelierShallieAlchemistsOfTheDuskSea
Rebochan added this example to YMMV.Atelier Shallie Alchemists Of The Dusk Sea:
- Narm: While fans often debate over the correct way to pronounce "Atelier" (a french word)... everyone agrees you should not say it like they do in *this* game.
I removed it due to being misuse of Narm (it doesn't explain why this turns dramatic scenes funny, it's just complaining about mispronouncing a word). They added it back with this edit reason:
openEdit war
Rebochan is edit warring over a Narm entry on this
page. Their last addition has this edit reason:
"Dude, it's YMMV for a reason. Anyway, the bad pronunciation undercuts every scene where she says it because she literally can't pronounce the title of the game. And unlike most people who post these, I actually checked that this a thing - it's even referenced over at Barrel Wisdom where the video comes from."
I also question this
page talking about meta controversies, but I'm not sure.
Also want to add they've been reported twice
before
for rudeness and edit warring.
openEdit War Live Action TV
RiceRomp
added the following examples to Hollywood (2020):
- Narm: Every time that people act wowed by Camille's acting, just because she’s so clearly not that good. Of particular note is her screen test where she delivers her dialogue with a constipated look on her face, which comes across as worse than than Claire's intentionally botched tape, yet the characters In-Universe view it as a brilliant performance.
- The Scrappy: Camille is this for some since she’s supposed to be an amazing actress, but many have said her portrayer is the weakest link of the ensemble. The idea that someone as untalented as her could overcome the insane racial bias of the era and win an Oscar is laughable.
I removed them because the Narm Clean-Up thread had said
that the former was not an example, and The Scrappy Clean-Up thread said
that the latter requires a 6 month waiting period before examples can be added and the work was released in May of this year.
RiceRomp just today has added these to the page:
- Narm: Every time that people act like Camille's acting is incredible, given most viewers not only think it's nothing to write home about, but legitimately bad. Of particular note is how in universe she's apparently so good that she helps change the country into a more accepting place, and manages to win a lead actress Oscar in the 1940s, a feat that wouldn’t be done in real life until the early 2000s.
- The Scrappy: Camille is probably the least popular of the main characters, with the main reason being that she’s supposed to be an exceptional actress, but her performances come across as more laughable and dull than actually good.
openLegless object show characters
So, this problem retains to character sheets for object shows. Me and Whaterva have decided on what to do last night, but I'm just going to ask right now. So Whaterva has been putting the trope "An Arm and a Leg" in sections for characters who lack legs. Now, the trope in question actually relates to the mutilation of limbs. If the character in question lost their legs to an injury, that's fine. However, to bring you a couple cases, Slurpy's lack of legs is an unknown case, and Nabla's case makes zero sense if you know that she was given Sudden Anatomy by Oodle. We've decided to just replace the trope with an inversion case of Armless Biped until a new trope launches for legless characters, but what do you guys think?
Edited by RabbitTopeBallopenTroper added narm misuse after it was cut.
There's a troper called Steam_Lord who added shoehorned Narm examples to YMMV.Bill Nye Saves The World, even though they were already cut. I consulted the narm cleanup thread
, and we decided we should ping them so we can resolve the issue. They don't have a Tropers page, though.

added Audience-Alienating Premise to YMMV.Ratched.
Yesterday Golden City Bird
removed the example citing in his edit reason that works that haven't been released yet can't qualify for "Audience Alienating Premise".
RiceRomp has since then re-added the example.
Also they've added a couple of Narm examples, that were confirmed to be
Zero-Context Examples, so I commented them-out, but they have uncommented them.
open Is this misuse?
These are currently under the Narm entry in the YMMV
page for Hamilton.
- Although "It's Quiet Uptown" is a Tear Jerker of a song, when watched live, Hamilton constantly being on the verge of tears can come across as exaggerated and cheesy, especially contrasting Eliza's much more subdued sadness.
- Before the fateful duel between Burr and Hamilton, one of Burr's justifications for fearing for his life was Hamilton was wearing his glasses. While there's In-Universe reasoning (Burr says that the glasses scare him because he believes they mean that Hamilton intends to "take deadly aim"), it winds up being rather unintentionally funny since the primary stereotypes surrounding glasses are not indicating "deadly intent" and the idea of fearing for your life because your enemy is wearing glasses is pretty laughable.
- Also in "The World Was Wide Enough", there's Burr's line of "This man will not make an orphan of my daughter!". In context, he's worried that he'll die and Theodosia will suffer from it. With the knowledge that Theodosia was 22 when the duel between Burr and Hamilton happened, it makes Burr look like an Overprotective Dad or simply making up excuses to shoot Hamilton.
Just...I don't know, some parts seem to really be stretching for it, and I've yet to see anyone in the "audience" share these sentiments.
openRejected Trope Titles
Any chance I’m the first person to suggest a humorous Darth Wiki page full of rejected titles for real tropes?
e.g. Skywalker Syndrome.
openAre these bad examples/pages?
So, was doing a bit of editing on Danganronpa: The Wolf's Game because no index, a couple zces, it needs a custom name to include an apostrophe, the usual 'this page is a mess.'
I came across these two pages which I feel like should be cut/cleaned because they have examples that are poor although I don't know if they qualify for cut listing or if I'm too strict.
Awesome.Danganronpa The Wolfs Game has one example. The image is a spoiler image which I don't remember if it's allowed or not. The sole example is worded... badly. I don't know exactly how to describe it but I know it's not worded well.
YMMV.Danganronpa The Wolfs Game has three examples:
Complete Monster, which while I'd say it's right I thought you had to get that approved by a forum thread.
Fan Disservice is... ig was right at the time but it's inaccurate now since the corpse it's referring to was faking her own death although that could be fixed.
Narm Charm which I just flat out think is wrong; I don't think I've heard anyone in this fandom hold this opinion. But i also know it's not my place personally to say 'that's objectively wrong' on a ymmv page.
openVideo showing odd thumbnail
I recently uploaded a video to the site, but for some reason it showed a thumbnail of color bars (which did not appear at all in the video I uploaded). Is there any way to fix this? (The video I uploaded was Jax's Arm Rip Fatality from Mortal Kombat 2 for the trope An Arm and a Leg. It can be found here
.)
openBashing Troper
I just want to go ahead and say I don't watch Supergirl so I have no two cents in this one way or the other.
So on Supergirl, there's a character named William who apparently is not liked at all by the fanbase. I suppose that in and of itself is fine to put on YMMV pages since it's a notable Audience Reaction, but there seems to be a problem with bashing rather than just stating. Specifically, Starbrand 1987 has made many, many edits just talking about how much fans hate William. (They also have several grammar problems like no punctuation and no capitalization, but that's beside the point.)
Here
Starbrand adds And The Fandom Rejoiced about William possibly dying. Here
they put in an entry saying that William flirting with Kara after she turned him down on an episode that aired on International Woman's Day...is Narm.
Most of it is here
on the YMMV page. Starbrand puts a large edition to an entry talking about how poorly-received William is, an entry about how his actor and Kara's actress have no chemistry, adding William and Kara's romance under Audience-Alienating Premise ("Not one regular supergirl media reviewer approves of the relationship."), basically accusing the writers under Trolling Creators, and several subbullets under The Scrappy that got deleted.
Forenperser has deleted some entries, but with the reasons "Stop this silly obsession already." and "Natter, poorly written and just plain obsession," I'm afraid this is going to get hostile soon. They were reported to ATT before
, but it seems they're still at it.
openNarm
So Narm is in the normal YMMV index and the banner on the top reflects that. What I don't understand is why the subpages, such as Advertising, have the Flame Bait banner. Anyone know what's going on?
openFranchiseOriginalSin.StarWars Film
I want to start this by saying that locking or cutting a page should be used for worst-case-scenario pages only.
I've been trying to fix up FranchiseOriginalSin.Star Wars, and I've found that the page has many, many issues regarding the examples listed. It, of course, suffers from Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, as most Star Wars Audience Reaction pages end up like. Now, this in itself is a pretty fixable situation, because it's very similar to Narm.Star Wars, which we successfully cleaned out. Yes, it took months, but it was a satisfying conclusion.
But the Narm page was different, because that had 1-3 sentence examples that resulted in a simple cleanup objective of "remove misuse". It was very simple to fix the page. But with this page? No, my objective was to shorten the examples instead of cutting them. But the more I go into the page, the more I realize that nearly every example is a violation of Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, and it's frustrating. Just like Example Indentation or Zero-Context Examples, complaining is a fair reason to remove a bad example.
So here's the "Ask" part: What should be done with the page? If it's undeniably hard to fix, and just about every example is a heavy violation of policy, what can be done to help? I was thinking of maybe locking it, but it sounds too obstructive. Cutting is also an option if the cleanup proves unmanageable, but it's barely on the table.
So, what does the rest of the wiki think about the page?

Jackthe Movie Fanatic has re-added an example of Narm that I had previously deleted in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The entry has already been an object of discussion in the cleanup thread
, where it was deemed to not be valid, since it does not describe an unintentionally funny moment and mostly amounts to complaining about a certain sound effect. I made sure to leave a link to the discussion when I edited the page. What should be done here?
