Ask the Tropers:
openPetition for the cut of the Jimmy Savile Creator page
Hi there, I didn't really know where to post this request as I haven't ventured onto this side of the website yet, but here we go. I am hoping to argue that the Jimmy Savile page should be cut and relegated to the permanent red link club. As can be seen in the discussion section of this page, there are quite a few tropers who want to see this page struck from the wiki and I am one of them. It has been nothing but a controversy magnet and, in my opinion, reduces the quality of tv tropes with its very presence.
Just for reference to save anyone who doesn’t know this ‘Creator’ from having to google, as the page doesn’t give much by way of detail: Jimmy Savile was a well-known TV presenter and philanthropist who died in 2011, and it emerged soon after his death that he was a prolific child molester who had abused hundreds of children during his lifetime.
Now, here are my reasons as to why I believe this page needs cutting and relegating to the red link club:
1. This page was created at the exact time that the posthumous controversy about Savile emerged and seems to have been made with the express purpose of troping all of these real life events. As a result, the page was locked after a length of time because too many people were using it for this. Without that, the page is completely bare bones and has very little by way of actual content. This also means nothing else can be added, due to the page being locked.
2. Jimmy Savile, despite being listed as a “creator”, did not create a single thing! If this was someone like the Marquis De Sade, where there was actual work that could at least be argued to be important to philosophy and literature I could understand. But this guy had nothing, no legacy and certainly nothing that would bring anything of value to this wiki. He was just a television presenter and occasional DJ and, because of the scandal, none of his shows will air on tv again and have also been locked in the BBC archives. Because of that, nothing he actually did is tropable, which means his presence here is pointless and will only detract from the quality of the wiki!
3. Many people viewing this will probably not live in the UK and thus will have no idea who Savile actually is. Outside of the UK, Savile is a complete unknown. On top of that, having a page like this will only invite controversy, as it’s effectively a page about a prolific child abuser which briefly mentions his crimes and literally nothing else. What's more, many of his victims are still alive and no traumatised person benefits from seeing a page of the person who abused them here!
Those are my reasons. However, I want to know what everyone here thinks. I hope I’m not courting controversy here; I apologise in advance if so. However, I remain deeply concerned by the presence of this page on the wiki, and don’t think it contributes anything of worth.
Edited by Atlantis1930open A Rather Questionable Work page...
Found this at random: Brotherhood
The edit history shows its been edited 38 times by ONE user. Only has a poster, tagline, no synopsis or trope list. Anyone?
EDIT: It apparently has a sequel called Adulthood... in the same condition
Edited by RobertTYLopenA case of RtDE or not?
While browsing through the history of Paper Mario the Origami King, I found some... concerning edits
that seem to be trying to make Bobby, an ally in the game, seem like more of a Jerkass than he actually is, with the editor going as far as to say he's a Hypocrite.
Is this okay, or is it a case of Ron the Death Eater?

openCreepy edits and possible sockpuppetry
So, on Rumble Roses, there's a troper named Homelesss who added very... slobbery... content to the page. Now I know that what he's adding is borderline on its own, but I think he might be a sockpuppet of a troper who was recently blocked for fetishposting named Ninja Ibukis Bum.
I rewrote some of it, but I thought I'd mention it here in case a mod thinks it needs intervention.

openConsistent Rudeness and Edit Warring
Betoniarz seems to have an issue with attitude. Besides having two edit wars
in which they were being hostile
, they also keep showing up
to TRS threads
just to complain about the decisions made, despite clearly never actually reading the thread. (To be clear, I'm not upset at them voicing their opinions, but how hostile and accusatory they are despite not actually looking into things).
Oh, and by scrolling through their edits I stumbled upon a third edit war
.
openEdit warring on YMMV/YashahimePrincessHalfDemon
Lancelot 07 has been making a ton of negative entries about the Sesshomaru/Rin romance in Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon. As it's extremely controversial, that's fair enough, but they keep on insisting that a fan-made timeline that uses age estimates as fact to prove that he's a pedo is canon. They keep readding references to it even after I and another troper have tried to remove them for being speculative Fanon.
Edited by IniuriaTalisopenChanging Page Pics, Ignoring Commented-Out Notes
I noticed that ~Yasmine 612 has been changing page pictures on pages. Most recently:
- Potty Failure (where they replaced the current pic from The Simpsons then put it back, ignoring a note that the picture was selected in Image Pickin)
- Future Me Scares Me (replacing an existing pic from General Protection Fault with one from The Simpsons, ignoring a note that the picture was selected in Image Pickin)
- FunnyAneurysmMoment. The Simpsons: Added a picture (deleting a note that the picture was pulled per Image Pickin)
I'm sending an Image Changes notifier for FunnyAneurysmMoment. The Simpsons after I finish posting this so I can point them to the thread. I've also corrected the Image Pickin violations.

Edited by sgamer82openStealth bombs?
So, my recent Trope Launch Pad entry
has gotten a significant number of bombs overnight, almost matching the number of hats it has. I'm more than capable of accepting criticism, but the thing is there are no criticisms. No one has posted any comments saying why they think it's not trope-worthy.
The fact that it got such a massive number of bombs in such a short period, and with not a word as to why, is somewhat concerning to me. Is this something that happens often?
openCharacters/TheFuzzyPrincess
Right. So! On the 19th, I removed an "example" of UsefulNotes.Bisexual from Characters. The Fuzzy Princess as Useful Notes are not tropes. A day later, Mark Lungo added it back, knowingly starting an edit war over something incorrect (though he at least asked for a better solution). I only noticed this on the 22nd, so I sent him a PM restating that Useful Notes were not tropes, and that the character's bisexuality should be mentioned in her character description if it must be mentioned.
He does a burst of edits the following (aka this) morning. The characters page remains untouched, and my PM goes without a response.
So I did it myself, once again removing the bunk example and instead mentioning her being bi in her character description. I have been told multiple times that cleanup edits do not constitute as an Edit War, so I thought it was fine... but then I realized this could easily be interpreted as a Single-Issue Wonk, so I'm making this query ahead of time to clear things up.
openInsulting edit reason
lemarhoffman removed an entry on StockParodyJokes.Comic Books, and the edit reason called ryah, the person who added it, a "somewhat incompetent troper". I... don't think that's acceptable. What action should be taken on this?
openLokisgambitx23
Lokisgambitx23's
first edits to the website include changing two images on Crippling Castration and Groin Attack, the latter of which they also deleted the hidden note about going through the Image Pickin' thread to change it.
EDIT: Yeah, I sent them a PM and they responded. It's a troll. I'm going to need a moderator as soon as possible.
Edited by ArctimonopenPossible complaining on YMMV/BeastThePrimordial
One particular user, Aquillion
, has made some edits on Beast: The Primordial that seem to be on the complainy side.
For example, the Designated Hero entry originally read:
Aquillion changed it to read:
Another example is an edit to a Broken Base entry that makes it only represent the negative side, going from this:
to this:
It kind of feels like the user wants negative reception towards the game to be much more prominent on the game's YMMV page.
openTroper with indentation issues

openBad history in OlderThanDirt
I believe I asked about this a year or two ago, but can't find the old thread.
Someone has added highly contentious statements about the oral traditions of certain cultures to Older Than Dirt - claiming without any hedging that they accurately record memories of events from tens of thousands of years ago. While of course this is possible, the truth of these claims is fundamentally unknowable, and for this reason the vast majority of relevant scholars don't take these ideas terribly seriously. As Older Than Dirt itself notes:
"Note: Tropes originating in mythologies/religions that aren't Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Anatolian, Vedic, or Chinese are never indexed here, as we have no idea whether those stories even existed in 800 BC, or what form they had, centuries or millennia before they were first written down. [...] Early folklorists often started with the assumption that folktales and myths were primordial; more research has shown that people can and do modify all sorts of tales for any purpose."
I think we should generalize the above statement to cover oral traditions as well. Otherwise, we'd need to list every single culture with a flood myth, as it's at least conceivable that such myths retain a memory of some Ice Age-era deluge.
openVery questionable deletions
In WhyFandomCantHaveNiceThings.Nintendo, Lil Cutie removed all examples and mentiones of Pokémon and replaced each of them with the hashtag #Bringthecardsback. I reverted the deletions and considered sending them a notifier, but ultimately decided to bring the issue here, because the circumstances under these deletions come off as a serious red flag for me.

they use bad indentation. Also, they talk about an aversion, even though the trope in question isn't omnipresent.
