openAn... Unusual Entry in the "Need Summary" List Print Comic
I've been going through the list of comic-book series where someone has requested a summary, and someone requested a page for "Housewives At Play". As far as I can tell, that is a straight-up porno comic. Now, I am aware that we do have a Porn with Plot page, but as far as I can tell, most of the plots of HAP revolve around pornographic adventures. Shall I just delete the title from the summary-request list?
openName question Print Comic
Why is Howling Commandos not called Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos like it is on the page image and for the entire series barring the occasional use of just "Howling Commandos" for other teams? If it's a case of being too long, WesternAnimation.Sgt Savage And His Screaming Eagles is even longer and it fits.
Edited by lalalei2001open You Guys Made a Mistake Print Comic
Dr.Finitivius in the Sonic Archie Characters' Other Antagonists is listed as Affably Evil, yet the YMWV part where it lists the Complete Monster also has him as a CM. Co plete Monsters can't be Affably Evil
openMultiple Index Tags on the Creator/ValiantComics Page Print Comic
I've noticed that the Valiant Comics creator page has multiple index tags. Is it really necessary to have more than one per index?
openYMMV/Sinestro Print Comic
The YMMV page for Sinestro (the comic book) is currently occupied by YMMV from Sinestro (a self-demonstrating page). In a case where there is both a work page and a self-demonstrating page, which should get the YMMV?
Edited by StrixObscuroopenHeroes In Crisis Print Comic
The YMMV page for Heroes in Crisis appears to be edit-locked. Was this intentional, or another casualty of that bug that's been plaguing the site lately?
openRainbow Rowell's Runaways? Print Comic
Did someone ask Downplayer to create a new page for the 2017 Runaways series? Because I was under the impression that the two series were supposed to share a work page (and YMMV page) because they take place in the same continuity and have mostly the same team lineup.
Edited by StrixObscuroopenBrian Michael Bendis' Superman Print Comic
Brian Michael Bendis has been controversial among Superman fans for the creative choices he makes regarding the Superman comics, but a few minutes ago this was added to the YMMV page:
- They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: Despite Bendis' assurances Lois and Clark are still in love and will not separate, fans were left divided over his characterisation of Lois when the Kents finally did reunite. Some critics took issue with Lois referring to Clark as "baby" instead of "Smallville", how ecstatic she was with leaving her only son in space with his grandfather (who'd previously been a genocidal monster) because of his puberty kicking in, and suggesting Clark wanted, not needed, her and that she prioritised her journalism over her family. Fans were also annoyed at the lazy writing as Lois' reasons and assurances were pretty much verbatim what Bendis had already said in interviews about the state of the relationship.
Is this a valid complaint or not?
Edited by MasterHeroopenSuperman: Grounded Print Comic
I want to verify if these tropes on the YMMV page of Superman: Grounded are being used properly.
- Dork Age: When J. Michael Straczynski was the writer, Grounded was called the worst comic of the year.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: During Superman's conversation with the suicidal woman, Felicity Rose, Superman notes with sadness that it's not fair that JFK, John Lennon, and Gandhi are all dead but Gaddafi, Fidel Castro, and Charles Manson are still alive. By the year 2018, all three of the latter would be dead, too, and the last two would die within a year of each other.
Dork Age requires that a) the story arc is a critical and financial failure, b) any changes it brings to the Superman saga are undone by later installments and c) whenever it's referenced by other entries, it's done in a negative manner.
Hilarious in Hindsight is more than just the comic book predicting a future event. Superman #701, the issue that features that conversation, was released on July 2010, so I don't know if it really qualifies.
What do you think?
openAbout Watchmen and Doomsday Clock Print Comic
Hello, I don't know if this came up or not. A while back on Watchmen I had a discussion with a fellow troper about putting in Doomsday Clock plot points in the main page.
I was under the impression that there was a rule that it was tvtropes policy to treat Watchmen as standalone and later versions as separate works. That was what was written on the Character Page. But it's not written on the main page.
Full disclosure, I think we should keep the page as it is and maintain norms. But I also realize that there's no rule one way or another for or against it. So if people can take a stand on this, either for and against, and then put it there, it's fine by me.
I personally think that given that Watchmen is a "classic" (it showed up in Time's All time great books of the 20th Century) and had been standalone for more than 20 years, and likewise is the most famous version of those stories and also most commercially successful (the Before Watchmen and Doomsday Clock haven't sold remotely as well as the originals), it should be maintained as standalone, since most readers and tropers would only be familiar with that. I am also wondering if creating a franchise page for overall adaptations is a good idea. That's also worth considering.
openRat-Man Print Comic
So I just stumbled upon Rat-Man. It and all of its subpages were created with a hyphen. I can't move them myself at the moment, so I figured I mention here so someone who has the time and wants to can do it.
open Trinities Print Comic
Is there a trope related to a trinity of lead characters such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman? Aside from the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, I cant really think of anything yet the concept seems to legendary
Edit: apologises, I see I’ve posted this in the wrong place but don’t know how to delete it so feel free to ignore
Edited by OtherworlderopenNo Title Print Comic
Well, print media, anyway.
Question: Fortean Times. British magazine publication, but a previous troper has methodically changed spellings to American English, which doesn't feel right. This isn't snobbishness or insularity: if I were to go to a works page on an American publication and change everything to British English it would look just as odd and "wrong". I don't want to provoke a flame war by changing everything back. But instinctively - if it's a works page on a British subject, it should be in British English. If it's American, American English. And vice versa. What's the ruling on this? Is there a "style guide" to consult?
openCharacter pages for the Green Lanterns Print Comic
The character page for the Green Lantern Corps has become enormous in recent years. I think the Earth Lanterns have enough tropes to fit their own pages. What do you say?
openMoving appearances in various media section on Carnage pages? Print Comic
I was thinking of moving the "Carnage's appearances in various media:" section from the Marvel Comics: Carnage page to Carnage to make it closer to the Venom page.
Thoughts?
openPossible edit war - Characters/XMenSinister Print Comic
Earlier today Halogen added
a Scam Religion example to the X-Men: Sinister page.
I amended it to add some spoiler tagging
, as an event mentioned in the example is after the shared universe spoiler cut-off point listed for the page.
Halogen has now changed it back, deleting the spoiler tagging again
, with no discussion or edit reason.
I don't know if that's because they don't view it as a spoiler, but I don't want to unilaterally change it back. Am I ok to revert it?
Edited by Mrph1openReal Name As An Alias or Louis Cypher Print Comic
So, in Marvel's Strikeforce series, the evil psychiatrist villain Doctor Karla Sofen, OKA Moonstone, runs a scam claiming to let people continue to talk to their dead relatives by uploading their consciousnesses to a digital communication network, when in reality she's just stealing their personal information. She does this under the guise of Doctor Sofien.
Sofen and Sofien are different names that just sound similar, but as far as I know, one is Jewish and the other is Arabic. They might have similar meanings, or they might be false cognates like torment and tormenta. so I don't like calling it Real Name as an Alias. Louis Cypher seems more appropriate, but the latter trope is apparently about demonic figures using alias that sound like their names. Karla Sofen is evil, but she's not really demonic, or even supernatural, running off of Clarke's Third Law.
Don't know which one, if either, fits is what I'm getting at.
openValidity of a potential ambiguity index Print Comic
Okay, so I couldn't find any suitable forum thread to bring this up, so I have to ask: as of right now, Black Knight redirects to Black Knight (Marvel Comics). However there's also the page called The Black Knight, which is about Donald Duck comic. Should the first page be turned into an ambiguity index for the latter two?

A user has started an Edit War by putting back examples I feel should be deleted because of the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment.
