openEdit on House of the Dragon Awesome moment Live Action TV
Hey guys, more rumblings at the House of the Dragon YMMV pages.
Let me get right to it: Here an entry I made in the Awesome moments tab.
“Ser Vaemond Velaryon being the only man at court willing to speak the truth about the bastardy of Laenor's so-called Velaryon heirs to Driftmark, and he does it right to the king's face. He dies for it, but when Viserys unexpectedly showed up to the throne room, he knew the game was up, and if he was going to have his tongue removed or worse, he may as well use his last words to speak truth to a den of liars.”
Snake changed it to:
He postscripted his edits with the following edit reason: “Jeez... The truth doesn't matter. Corlys declared them his grandsons, as did Rhaenys. Laenor publically acknowledged them as his sons. Vaemond is a brave blowhard, Syrax should eat him.”
Now, granted, I could have written the original entry better. There’s edits in there that are to be commended as improvements, and I've rethought some of the verbiage in the original. But the heart of the moment wasn’t in taking a dare, but telling the truth while doing so. If anything, the dare doesn’t matter. What he was willing to say in taking it ‘’does.’’
I want to offer this as a revision and get some thoughts on it:
Further, I kind of take exception to Snake’s edit reason. It comes off as maintaining his own editorial fiat over a YMMV page, where another author’s interpretation of a scene is validated by a textual reading of the drama by the actors and directors themselves.
Edited by CrimsonZephyropenWhat is this referring to from made of explodium Live Action TV
Does anyone know what parody this was referring to from Made Of Explodium
"One Trek parody has them firing the highly-explosive control panels out the torpedo tubes when none of their other weapons made a dent in the enemy ship's Nigh-Invulnerable Force Field."
open House Of The Dragon Hate Sink Misuse? Live Action TV
Not sure if this is the right place to post this. So Lightning Unicorn 08 readded a Hate Sink entry on Criston Cole's folder from Characters - House Of The Dragon. I believe it was decided here
he didn't count. Should I send a notifier to them? Thanks.
open The Rookie 2018 - Unintentionally Unsympathetic Live Action TV
Whilst being aware that Unintentionally Unsympathetic is YMMV, the two entries on the page don’t actually read like they’re explaining why a character is unsympathetic and rather that someone is complaining about the characters.
On top of that, it might just be me, but it also looks like someone complaining that the white protagonist was punished for his actions whilst two black characters were not - ignoring that one of the two did nothing to be punished for.
Edited by ChrisDVopen Froze Live Action TV
Trying to remember TV show (or movie) where a character failed to act during a difficult moment. I don't remember what the consequences were, someone got hurt possible. What I remember is the character had kind of a mental breakdown and there were scenes afterwards where the character was in his home and watched the moment over and over from security footage. He timed it on the footage, it was a matter of seconds that he had to act. He then started doing tasks like tying his shoes, or seeing how long it would take to get undressed and get into bed, and he timed each to see it in relation to the difficult incident. I remember the character's friends came over to see how he was doing and assured him there was nothing he could have done, it happened too quick. He said No, it took XXX number of seconds. He told them (I'm approximating this, not sure the exact tasks) No, I could have done something. Do you know what you can do in XX seconds? You can tie your shoes, get undressed and into bed, you can XXXXX, all in XX seconds. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thank you.
open Scoot McNary about Computers Live Action TV
Forgot name of one of my favorite shows…!
Scoot Mc Nary(sp?) is in it, it’s an ensemble piece, it takes place over several years in the 80s, he dies in it, & it’s about computers.
Argh!
openSpoilers in character section in Revice's Character page Live Action TV
The character description section in the Deadmans Founders' folder (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/KamenRiderReviceDeadmans)
contains a major plot reveal; I'd like to edit it to avoid spoilers, but according to the edit history this will make it the 3rd edit.
Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
openRedRightHand misuse, avoiding edit war Live Action TV
I'm looking to avoid an edit war on Characters.Reservation Dogs. On this page, it was used to describe the Deer Lady, a Vigilante Woman nature spirit who kills bad men and is a protector of everyone else. In my eyes, that makes her Anti Heroic at worst, so I removed the RRH example about her cloven hooves with an edit description about the trope being for evildoers. Now, a third party has readded the trope. I won't/can't contest it.
I asked on Is this an example?
if RRH for an antihero was Tropes Are Flexible or misuse, and was told it was definite misuse.
How to move forward from here?
open Lives Like a Pig Live Action TV
Is there a trope for people who not only live in squalid conditions or in repulsive ways but actively refuse to improve those conditions or change those even when they have the means and opportunity? Not people like the Clampetts, who were quite well-off by the standards they knew at series start, or the crew of the Black Lagoon, for whom criminality is at least arguably one of their better options, but people like the three petty criminals from Grimm Fairy Tales #15, or the common depiction of gangsters and addicts.
openArrowverse Earth-1 Live Action TV
In the Characters.Arrowverse Other Earths sheet for the Arrowverse, the DC Extended Universe is listed as the post-Crisis Earth-1 at the top, based off of the Serving Up Justice tie-in for Wonder Woman 1984 labeling the DCEU as Earth-1, especially since the Arrowverse is now Earth-Prime. Is that a stretch?
openDoes 'One Tree Hill' qualify as a Trope Maker? Live Action TV
After the fourth season of Teen Drama One Tree Hill, the show utilises a Time Skip of 4 years to get around a variety of issues - characters going to different colleges, the use of Comic-Book Time meaning the age gap between actor and character growing with each season, and a few arising from the narrative.
With Gossip Girl and Riverdale both instituting similar time skips - with Riverdale's occuring at the same point in the series to boot - is it fair to consider One Tree Hill the Trope Maker (Or at least Trope Codifier) of a Teen Drama using a Time Skip to shift from being a high school based Teen Drama?
Edited by ChrisDVopenMy fanfic has the same title as a pre-existing TV show Live Action TV
Hi, someone made a page for my fanfic (called Are You Afraid of the Dark?) and it's dropped into the middle of the page for a TV show of the same name.
How do I separate them out, please?
Edited by ack1308openUploading Image Live Action TV
I love how the Tales From The Crypt recap pages have the Comic Page illustrations from the Cryptkeeper's book before the episode starts proper. I'm trying to do that but I have never done it before. Do I just put the cursor where I want to add it and then upload? How do I put a caption? Does it need approval? Thanks!
openLate Night Liars Live Action TV
It seems the page was deleted recently, but looking at the latest-available version on Internet Archive, there was nothing wrong with it. (With the exception of not really describing the main game, which is a very easy fix.) Also, "I could not find any full episodes anywhere online, only 30 second clips which do not give enough content to judge trope-worthiness" is...honestly, very stupid reasoning for deleting it.
Is it possible to restore it as it was? If it needs more examples or specific facts I'll be very happy to beef it up; I have all eight episodes I can use as reference. (Its trivia page was not preserved on Archive, so if that's not recoverable I'll be happy to try and re-do that too.)
Edited by supersaver87open In Seinfeld and other 90s shows, no one uses the internet Live Action TV
I feel like watching Seinfeld is a world virtually like the one I grew up in except for the fact that no one in the entire however many seasons of the show ever used the internet (also people used taxis instead of ubers). As a result the show feels highly dated. It's kind of weird. What do you call that phenomenon?
Alternatively there's a show called My Name is Earl where one character is kind of unique in that he used the internet in all sorts of ways....video conferencing book clubs or chess matches or wine dates, this was mid-2000s, so he was ahead of the curve. This kind of looks prescient in hindsight.
Edited by nilheadopenFanDisservice Misuse Live Action TV
I noticed on the Recap pages for Breaking Bad that Fan Disservice is listed any time we see Walt naked.
If I'm correct, Fan Disservice is for sexual situations deliberately played up to be disturbing or uncomfortable (like the show's infamous "Happy Birthday, Ted" scene, which ironically wasn't listed anywhere until I added it myself), not "character gets naked in this scene and they're unattractive". The examples don't list why the trope counts, it just says "Walt was naked in this scene." It even lists it for a serious moment where Walt undresses to get in the shower only to pass out on the floor while Skyler tries to talk to him.
Examples:
- "Pilot": Bryan Cranston makes the first of many appearances in his tighty whitey briefs, and it is not pleasant...
- "The Cat's In the Bag": In the opening scene, we see Walt's bottom as he walks naked to the bathroom after sex with Skyler.
- "Bit By a Dead Bee": Once again, Bryan Cranston shows some skin, this time going fully naked (albeit from the back).
- "I See You": Fanservice: Opening scene. For once, it’s Jesse that’s topless, not Walt.
- "Buried": Walt stripping in silence to take a shower, before collapsing on the bathroom floor.
- Walt's character page: Walt sometimes strips down to his tighty whities in order to cook (usually in the first season) or for other reasons, but neither for comedy nor to look pretty. I don't know about that, the scene with Walt naked in the supermarket was pretty funny...
The page for the episode "Peekaboo" lists the trope because of Spooge and his girlfriend (two ugly meth-heads) even though neither are seen naked or in an otherwise sexual situation.
I ran a wick check and couldn't find enough misuse otherwise to justify a TRS thread or a clean-up thread so that's why I'm presenting it here. Cut these examples?
Edited by supernintendo128openWhy won't my entry show up on the index? Live Action TV
I added an entry to the recap index for Into the Dark, and on some other indexes. Checking later however, it doesn't show up on any of them. I don't see what the issue is. Could it be because there's no other entry on the recap page yet?
openWhy won't an entry show up on the series index? Live Action TV
I just added this recap page for the show Amazing Stories (2020). It doesn't show up on the show's recap index, but The Heat, another entry that I also created, does. Any idea what the issue is?

Ok, I just added a foreshadowing trope to a page, But I'm trying to hide part of it, how do I do that?
