openNot a good example of Shallow Parody? Western Animation
This entry has been bothering me for a while now, and I think I figured out how to articulate my reasonings. In the Western Animation section for Shallow Parody, this is said for Teen Titans Go!:
- The episode "Squash and Stretch" has the Titans watching a Wile E. Coyote and the Road Runner parody with parodies of Gumball and Darwin in the title characters' roles, seeming to indicate the writers never watched TAWoG, but wanted to parody it anyway.
My issue with this, is In Wander Over Yonder, there’s a reference to Gravity Falls, but it’s more a parody of Scooby-Doo
, yet it gets listed as a Shout-Out.
So my question is, why is it when WoY does a parody of a show that uses the designs but the plot of a different show, it’s considered a Shout-Out, yet when TTG does the exact same thing it’s considered a Shallow Parody?

I'm hoping to upload the poster and at least one screenshot for Once Upon a Studio: Version 2.0. Could you let me know if it's possible to upload images, and if so, show me how? Sorry for the number of questions, I'm just a complete novice to much of this
openLinking episodes in Earth designations on What If…? Western Animation
So I’m noticing how people are linking the recap pages from What If…? (2021) to the Earth designation of the variants folders like in MCU: Tony Stark and I think that this is unnecessary because:
- Not all universes have an episode designated to them like President Steve Rogers or the various captured heroes and villains in the Season 2 finale.
- Not all characters debuted in the episode of that Earth’s debut like most of Captain Carter’s Avengers
- Not all Earths debuted in the episode they’re focused on like the 1602 episode which first appeared in the second Captain Carter episode or Sakaarian Iron Man’s Earth
- We don’t really link episode recaps on MCU character pages
- It’s just a waste of bytes in my opinion. Many MCU character pages are under threat of being too long so I think cutting down on these recap page links can quell that even if just a little
What do you guys think? Should we unlink them because I really don’t think they’re necessary.
Edited by MaxyGregoryyyyopenCan "A Day in the Limelight" apply to Anthology series? Western Animation
Specifically, What If…? (2021). Many episodes are centered around MCU side characters (the current season having episodes focused on Nebula, Happy Hogan, and Hela), and not-quite-side characters such as T'Challa, Peter Quill, and Doctor Strange
open The Danny Phantom character page Western Animation
I saw that a whole lot of examples were removed from Sam's character sheet. I want to add back the hypocrite example (because she is a hypocrite and some of the complaints about her character are legitimate), but I don't want to cause any edit wars.
Edited by MsCC22openRegarding Banned in China page Western Animation
Someone named Chonky Lemur readded something in Banned in China page like My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip is banned in France for an unknown reason or the 2017 Power Rangers film have the "Mighty Morphin'" part initially restored for the Malaysian release only to be cut again several weeks later because Moral Guardians staged a protest (again). I didn't find any online proof for those things, especially the "western European ban" on ''My Little Pony: Rainbow Roadtrip" (as said in the last time
). I don't know how to describe this further properly but can you guys decide on whatever remove those things or not?
openIs Informed Attribute allowed in YMMV? Western Animation
What the title suggests.
I read on it and it says it's a super-trope, so I'm not sure if it would be allowed since it's a more general trope or not.
I only ask cause I wanted to add this or a trope like it for a character that is supposedly a good father but the show does a poor job of showing it
openValues Resonance entry Western Animation
Here's an entry from the page for South Park:
- In "Trapper Keeper", Garrison's “The Reason You Suck” Speech towards Rosie O'Donnell remains relevant thanks to America's escalation into extreme partisanship. The fact that this is about a kindergarten class' election for class president was also depressingly accurate of how some voters behave, as exemplified by the explosive reactions from the losing parties in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
- "Half the kids in the class didn't vote for your nephew, so what about them? You don't give a crap about them because they're not on your side! People like you preach tolerance and open-mindedness all the time, but when it comes to Middle America, you think we're all evil and stupid country yokels who need your political enlightenment!"
I think the episode in general might count, but Garrison's speech doesn't support this as it's more about defending people from a specific part of the country and it actually makes the opposite point since it suggests the average voter wouldn't act irrationally if they lose. Should the entry be reworded?
Edited by Javertshark13openListing every couch gag Western Animation
I don't really know where else to put this, but I'm wondering if CouchGag.Bobs Burgers is a proper use of the subpage. It lists every example (up to Season 10) of the show's Couch Gag (namely, the names on the store next door and the van), while most other examples of Couch Gag simply stop at a summary of the gag, and maybe give a few noteworthy (e.g. Lampshade Hanging) examples. For comparison, the reason CouchGag.The Simpsons is so lengthy is because the intro has multiple couch gags and their variants tend to be very self-referential and involved due to being an iconic Trope Namer.
So should we cut the Bob's Burgers page and just move it to a couple of examples?
openIs Strangled by the Red String and Wangst both viable YMMV tropes? Western Animation
What the title says. Found a good example of it in 'Helluva Boss' but I wanted to make sure neither were like Flame Bait or something before I try to put it in.
openInquiry about Misaimed Fandom edit Western Animation
Since I couldn't find a Misaimed Fandom clean-up page;
I came across this Misaimed Fandom edit on the YMMV page for South Park: Joining the Panderverse;
- Both the left and right have claimed ownership of the special, with the left claims the right failed to realize the episode took shots at "the right YouTubers" for one scene while failing to realize that the show has taken multiple shots at "wokeness" with the character of PC Prinicpal representing them, and also taking shots at Disney with Mickey Mouse being used as a villain in a few episodes. The right knowing they're being picked on and not caring about that one scene and enjoying the jabs at Kathleen Kennedy being used as the poster child for pandering in the special. All the while, both sides miss the fact that both sides are presented as part of the problem.
While not without its good points, the edit, at least from I what believe, at best simplified the varying reactions to the episode and, at worst, despite the troper's intentions, may have came off as a bit one-sided (e.g. it failing to acknowledge how (far)-right-leaning fans misinterpreted the special in a similar way that left or (far-left) leaning fans did). I considered rewriting it, but I couldn't quite figure out how to make it work, so I instead deleted the edit, giving my reasoning as;
However, I'm not quite sure if that was the right choice. As such, I have decided to get a third party's opinion on the matter on whether or not the edit should be restored, if it should be rewritten, or if it should stay deleted.
Edited by WiryAiluropodineopenContesting a YMMV Edit Western Animation
Under the Harsher in Hindsight entry on Drawn Together, I brought up Tara Strong spreading Islamophobia during the Gaza Genocide. A troper, however, changed the word "genocide" to "bombing"
- Tara Strong calling Princess Clara one of her favorite voice roles hits different in 2023, as Strong has since made and retweeted Islamophobic tweets in response to the Gaza bombing.
The troper's reasoning: "Calling it a genocide is really pushing it."
Genocide Denial is unacceptable, but I'd rather get some official backing instead of going on an edit war.
Edited by TabsopenContesting a Character Derailment entry Western Animation
I'd been thinking about it, but I want to contest an entry on CharacterDerailment.Western Animation:
- Diesel 10, who currently provides the page image, is a very unique case of derailment. In his debut in Thomas And The Magic Railroad, he was a murderous monster who was out for blood, wanting to completely and utterly destroy the steam engines. In his unexpected second appearance in Calling All Engines!, he's somehow become nicer with almost no given explanation, and quite willingly helps Thomas repair the new Sodor Airport. In his defense, it was related more to necessity since a decline in tourists brought in by the airport in question would've spelt doom for the entire railway, including him. Even so, he doesn't display any sort of gruffness or malice, and again, does it with a big smile on his face. However, when brought in for the CGI series, he became more of a mix of the two. Whilst he certainly wasn't nice like he was in CAE, it wasn't up to his TATMR persona, as he's now become more of a Well-Intentioned Extremist in that he wants his fellow diesels to receive more praise and attention than what they have, believing that they've become overlooked in favor of the steam engines, and while he certainly doesn't like them, he does realize when he's gone too far whenever he deals with them. It has given him more of a personality though, as some felt that his TATMR appearance was more of a Generic Doomsday Villain than an actual character. His appearance in Day of the Diesels returns him to his original villainous persona, where he and his band of diesels seize control of the Steamworks.
I think the problem I have with this entry is that it doesn't factor the fact that Thomas And The Magic Railroad is Canon Discontinuity. Nothing from that movie is ever mentioned in the actual show aside from lifting a couple of characters from it. It's one thing for a character to suddenly change personalities in the actual show, but its also another for a non-canon character brought into canon to have a completely different personality.
So, I want to ask, does an entry a character debuts in being rendered Canon Discontinuity disqualify it from Character Derailment if they go on to display a different personality in an entry that is part of canon?
openAn idea for Just For Fun. Western Animation
I would like to make (Or have them make me) a page, about an animated series that does not exist in Real Life or In-Universe, Only in my mind. The series is basically a Western Animated Series which is a Massive Multiplayer Crossover of all the existing fictional characters (And several originals that represent each character trope or that they have several), Full of Shout-Out, and most importantly: That us with examples of ALL the tropes on the page that have existed and even with many pages dedicated only to examples of tropes in this series. In In-Universe this series is one of the best known and viewed, especially in North America, Europe and Asia. The series is called "Rayeli's Multiverse" and let's say that it is a spiritual sequel to the novel Number of the Beast since it takes the concept of The World as Myth. Basically the series is located in several parallel and fictional universes with already known characters. The Universe where most of the events occur is Universe 2 (Universe 1 is the Real Life of In-Universe) The series stars Rayeli Minuto (My Avatar, which is also a skin from a video game) which the tropes What they represent is up to each person's interpretation. He is the leader of Universe 2 (The Republic or The Federation). He is also the executive director of the Minuto Corporation (Mega-Corp) and an important member of the United Universes (Fictional United Nations). He seeks to expand his influence and his culture to the entire Mutltiverse (Multiversal Conqueror). Universe 2 could be an example of One Nation Under Copyright, also of Bread and Circuses (Some of the industries that Minuto Corporation manages are the Entertainment and Food Industry). Also one of the symbols of the series are the O-Bots (Cute Machines, Adorable Evil Minions) Which do the jobs that no one wants to do, also with different roles such as Butlers, Pets, Employees, Assistants, Etc... They are like the working class, and since these robots exist they make their users become Lazy Bums or Slackers. About the places, in Universe 2 we have Minuto City, A quite advanced and prosperous city but quite consumerist and dependent on technology and O-Bots, The institute of perfection which is an Elementary School, Middle School, High School and to the University where the inhabitants of Universe 2 study. And Small Town which is the complete opposite of Minuto City, a humble, small town but with quite Hardworking and Independent inhabitants. Returning to the main attraction of the series, just as in The Number of the Beast you travel to universes through a time machine, that is, you can travel to any universe at any time. There are also the Multiversal bridges which connect one universe with another.

There's this franchise I'm a fan of called Super Things: Rivals of Kaboom, which has a cartoon Series on You Tube. I'd like to add it to give more recognition since it's mostly popular in Europe. However, it has currently 12 canon Series. Is it better to have them as seperate pages or still put the series into one single page? I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Since it's no longer upcoming, I think we should make a page for it.
openIs Flanderization a YMMV trope? Asking for possible use in Helluva Boss Western Animation
I'm asking the question because in 'Unhappy Campers', Moxxie, the usual smart/straight man of the group was seemingly made into a narcisstic attention whore who got jealous of Millie, even though none of these traits were ever shown (or if they were, weren't to the extent), possibly to make Millie (who had little development during the whoel series) loo good.
openAdministrative Lock Question Western Animation
So how long do pages remain under administrative lock? Because the character pages for Spider-Man: Spider-Verse have been like that for ages and there's some edits I wanted to add.

The Trivia page for Potsworth & Company was cut for only having a cut trope on it. However, I wish to recreate it to list a Keep Circulating the Tapes example. Should I do so?
