openDMOS entries Videogame
On the Video Games page, there is the following entries:
- Five Nights at Freddy's:
- Dr Y 9 K: Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location and its stupid twist in the end. Before I go on, let me just say that for the most part, I found Sister Location rather disappointing. I was disappointed with the gameplay, the lack of cameras save for the Private Room, Ennard's canon design, and I was especially disappointed with the non-canon Custom Night. The only redeeming quality for the game was the animatronics themselves. But even that didn't last long. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you what may be the series' worst twist possible: the identity of Springtrap. For almost two years, we were led to believe he was actually William Afton, the series Big Bad, dead and revived. But then the creator released a cutscene, that pretty much confirmed he was actually Michael Afton, William Afton's son. What? You mean to tell me that Springtrap is not the Creepy Awesome Robotic Psychopath I thought he was, but yet another innocent(?) soul? That was terrible! That was the worst, most character-derailing Ass Pull I had ever seen! It made me permanently disown the series and stop liking it! For so long, Springtrap had been one of my favorite animatronics, since I always saw him as the only legitimately "evil" animatronic. Now I can't look at him or enjoy him the same way anymore. The creator said he wanted Springtrap to return, and so did I, for a while. But now? I want nothing to do with him, or this age-old series.
- batmany: I was really looking forward to the release of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator (AKA FNAF 6) in the hopes it would finally wrap up some of the numerous plot twists and mysteries of the franchise. Well, the game was released earlier this week and....well, it makes absolutely no sense. The reason why is because it utterly contradicts everything established in previous games. The ghostly children being freed in FNAF 3? Nope, they're now possessing Molten Freddy! How? When? At no point (apart from Baby) were any of the Funtime Animatronics ever haunted by ghosts. Remember in Sister Location how Baby didn't like being created for murder and wanted to be free? Remember how Elizabeth (William's Daughter) was an innocent victim of a tragic accident? Now she's daddy's little killer! Why? There was absolutely no indication that either had any interest in murder. And, speaking of Sister Location, now William Afton is Springtrap instead of his son Michael. Nevermind the fact that the Custom Night in SL strongly hinted that Michael was Springtrap and that the Freddy Files guide book even stated that this idea was entirely plausable. Speaking of Michael, he dies in this game by sacrificing himself in a fire with the other Animatronics. Apparently Scott forgot or is completely ignoring that Michael is cursed with immortality. Also, Springtrap survived a fire before so why would this one be any different? William Afton has gone from a evil genius serial killer who lurks behind the scenes to what can best be described as a poor man's version of The Joker. Fazbear Corporate went from being an incompetent if well-meaning company with some questionable business practices to a blatantly over-the-top corrupt one with no regards to safety whatsoever. I could go on and on about how this game did a piss-poor way of explaining things. I feel Scott was more concerned with trying to appease fans who were not happy with Sister Location's plot twists and haphazardly trying to wrap everything up in a neat little bow. Scott, please, if you ever make another FNAF game, give me "Miketrap" and "Freakshow Baby" and retcon this mess of a game out of existence.
- DukeNukem4ever: Mine would be the fact that the mystery of the Bite of '87 and existence of Shadow animatronics went completely unexplained. Since this is (currently) the Grand Finale, I was expecting these things to become finally clear. But no, once again we have to draw suggestions what exactly happened back then. The creator pulled this trick back in Five Nights at Freddy's 4, and now he did it again. As much as I respect Scott Cawthon, I sometimes can't understand his logic. And apparently I am not the only one to think so.
Duke's entry is fine to stay, but there are problems with the other two:
- DrY9K's entry is based on the complete misunderstanding that Springtrap is Michael, when Scott Cawthon has gone on record to say this was never the intention and that the SL Custom Night cutscene was misunderstood by the fandom.
- The boldened part of Batmany's entry is also about Miketrap, which was already explained above. It also questions as to why fire could kill Mike and William, when the game itself explains that fire is the weakness that gets rid of their immortality (Remnant).
As "Correcting factually incorrect information about the work" is a justified reason to edit another user's DMOS entry, should Dr's entry and the boldened part of Batmany's entry both be deleted?
openDoes this fit as Even Evil Has Standards? Videogame
In Poppy Playtime, the corrupt, child experiment supporting evil CEO Leith Pierre, after a catastrophe happens in his factory's theater, does something to a large group of people that another executives questions they had to do. (It's heavily implied the theater burned down and he trapped the the theatergoers inside to protect company secrets, denying them a chance to evacuate and survive). However, it's Leith who people say Even Evil Has Standards applies to.

openWanting to avoid an edit war, and rudeness in a blank edit reason Videogame
On Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ukokira removed
this edit...
- False Flag Operation: Ultimately, this is what the Red Herrings surrounding the Red Samurai amount to. Despite it seemingly being an ally if not Lou or Deadman assisting Sam from beyond the grave, it turns out to be Higgs screwing with Sam, luring him into a false sense of security so he can nab Tomorrow right from under his nose.
... with the reasoning of "This literally isn't true. It's Deadman in the Red Samurai suit up until Higgs hijacks in the DHV when Deadman is explicitly outside of the Samurai body."
I added
back in on my read of "Except Deadman himself says it's not him when the Red Samurai/Higgs appears again in the Magellan. Realistic chiral holograms exist, and if it WAS Deadman he would've cleared it up at some point."
Ukokira then removes
it again with the reasoning of "He is literally talking about that one specific moment when Higgs hijacks the body" (although for some reason, the removal shows
up twice
), followed by two null edits with the edit reasons of "He is literally talking
about thatone specific moment when Higgs hijacks the body We LITERALLY SEE DEADMAN in the suit. He does a whole "we will always be connected speech". It is CLEARLY not a Chiralgram there. How are you being this dense???" and "Deadman being the suit is also in an area
that's explicitly outside of the chiral network. It physically can't be a "realistic" chiralgram".
I'd like to add the False Flag Operation back in, but I want to avoid an edit war. My reading of the whole situation is that Higgs could easily bypass the chiral network in part because of how long he spent on the Beach and being stuck there would've given him some different powers, and thus allow him to puppet the Red Samurai with a chiral hologram of Deadman overlaying the face, and that it wouldn't be out of character of Higgs to deliberately mislead the protagonists. The other reasoning is that Deadman never outright confirms that he was ever masquerading as the Red Samurai, because why would he, what with his heart having been donated to Heartman, and the rest of Deadman's body would've been more than likely incinerated to avoid the chance of a voidout.
openAre Fandom Rivalry and Friendly Fandoms mutually exclusive? Videogame
On YMMV.Mario Kart World, there's this entry:
- Fandom Rivalry: With Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, due to the long-time Mario-Sonic rivalry and that both games are looking to expand upon vehicle transformation and otherwise take their respective series in bold new directions.
Seems kind of stubby, just making surface-level comparisons between the two games and the two franchises' history together, but I didn't really question it since Nintendo seems to still get compared to Sega even years after the latter exited the console business.
Then I scrolled down and saw this:
- Friendly Fandoms:
- Despite the historical rivalry and the duel with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, Mario Kart World in general has been positively received by fans of Sonic the Hedgehog, due to World's surprisingly robust movement mechanics that seemingly take close inspiration from Sonic itself, namely wall running, "spammable" aerial tricks, and rail grinding. For CrossWorlds specifically, many fans also see it and World as worthy competition which can take the Mascot Racer genre to new heights. It helps that both games are taking different approaches, with Mario focusing on open-world checkpoint racing while Sonic is sticking with circuit tracks.
So which is it? Can both happen at the same time? If not, which do we keep?
openWhat to do with [=CN=] servers being ahead of global given potential spoiler warnings Videogame
There is a concern I have with regards to potential spoilers in Reverse: 1999 due to CN servers being two patches ahead of global.
I am of the general opinion that, because of how critical R1999 is when it comes to its narrative driven approach, publicly listing CN characters ahead of global will, in itself be highly spoilery (i.e. Moldir being playable is in itself, incredibly spoiler heavy for global) and may lead to the potential snowball effect of editors just outright listing lore-heavy spoiler tropes way ahead of what global players are expecting.
While I have heard that other gacha pages like GFO and Arknights have their CN listed characters, I don't think Reverse should follow what these other communities do with regards to their CN stuff.
Spoilers is a hazard in R1999 and there is a large sub-set of R1999 players who actively want to avoid all CN news. If I was a unassuming global player that would like to read the character pages of Reverse, I would have zero warning that CN characters alongside potential CN spoilers would appear once I scroll down (assuming we go ahead with publicly listing the CN stuff). Given that there is no warning in the character pages of R1999, what can we do?
I prefer just hiding all CN stuff until global catches up to that patch. Nevertheless, I would like some advice or consensus here on what to do with this and how to construct these pages if needed.
openSelf-Demonstrating Fawful page Videogame
So I've noticed someone had already attempted to create the aforementioned Fawful page sometime ago, though it was removed for being too "vanilla". Considering I have an interest in making a page for him (and I feel he firs all 3 of the criterion), would it be safe to create a new section just for him?

I'd do it myself but i don't know how to or if i even can, not to mention i don't know tropes very well so i don't even know what trope to put it under. thank you for your time have a nice day
openExample with unnecessary mention of Rule 34? Videogame
So, regarding this example from the Unnecessary Makeover page:
- Midna in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess thinks little of the form in which she's trapped for most of the game; she refers to herself as a "hideous little imp" and jokes with Link that her true form is so beautiful that it leaves him speechless when he first sees it. However, many players find her initial implike design cuter, more unique, and conveying more of her sassy appeal. It's not uncommon for people to joke that Midna's imp form essentially proved the codifier for "shortstack" designs (i.e. a short, busty female character with curves), and artwork of Midna's imp form far outweighs her true form, even—hell, especially on porn sites.
That last part really seems to me like a case of Too Much Information, especially with the way it's worded. I was going to remove it, but I thought I should ask first, because maybe I'm just being too prudish.
Edited by BluethornopenTroper with linking issues and a shipping bias Videogame
Mysticalmagic 483 often edits on the Sonic the Hedgehog pages, and I've found myself having to correct their edits from time to time.
- Here
they don't properly link an example.
- Another
example of not using link brackets.
- Word cruft
In addition, they have such an obvious shipping bias. They are a fan of the Sonic/Blaze pairing. They are entitled to that opinion, because this is the internet, and everyone is allowed to have their own opinion even if I don't agree with it.
What they AREN'T entitled to is deleting mentions of the Silver/Blaze pairing because it goes against their preferred ship.
- Here
they take off details of Blaze's Ship Tease entry.
- Here
they delete a point saying Sonic is a Shipper on Deck for Silver/Blaze.
- Here
they remove a segment where both Silver and Blaze blush at being called a cute couple.
- Here
they insist that the pairing Silver and Amy "makes more sense" (no hate to anyone who ships this, but in canon Amy has a Single-Target Sexuality for Sonic).
- Here
they remove another point about her being close to Silver.

openMario Strikers Videogame
From Funny.Mario Strikers I’m not sure which game these moments below come from. Does anyone know? I wasn’t sure where to go to ask this.
- First off, everyone, and we mean EVERYONE takes the game so seriously. So when they’re losing, they’re all freaking out.
- Mario in utter despair
- Luigi getting a twitchy eye
- Peach, as much of a sweetheart as she is, throws a tantrum like a spoiled brat.
- Waluigi mocking the other team.
- Wario saying “I give up” before blowing himself up.
- Bowser setting his own team on fire.
- Wario is a walking example of this.
- Wario's home entrance
in Mario Strikers Charged: He starts off in the same spread-out skydiving pose as most of the other characters, except that he's singing his theme in time with the actual music. But when it comes time for him to switch to a position that would facilitate a "safe" landing, he instead maintains the skydiving pose and slams into the ground gut-first (which also prompts his theme to stop), after which he looks up and glares at the ball.
- While we are on the subject of his theme...
- "Butt smash!"
- Gas Mask, and the opponents' reactions to it
.
Mario: Oh, Wario! *cough*
- Wario's home entrance
- Waluigi has quite a palette.
"Aw, Wario! *cough* Ugh, you're killing me!"
- Waluigi has quite a palette.
- Even Wario himself has a few comments on it: "Excellent vintage," for instance.
- Try using Bowser's Fire Storm on the resulting cloud of gas. This is what happens.
- His frustration when the opponents get a goal. Particularly when he ends up wrestling and beating up the ball... and it blows up in his face.
- "Keep throwing me!"
- Even his Mega Strike is hilarious. He inflates like a balloon and blows the ball at the goal.
- One of his victory animations has the camera on his backside as he laughs while it goes up to his face, giving a thumbs-up and say his name. In slow-motion for some reason.
- Wario doesn't howl in pain if he's electrocuted in the first game. Instead, he screams "OOOOH YEEEESSS!"
- Waluigi's theme.
- "Want the ball? Eh? HERE!". The dancing he does after slamming the ball into his opponent's face is priceless.
- Waluigi´s hilariously silly and childish animations when he loses.
- While most of the characters look cool and controlled during their descent in the home entrances, Waluigi's entrance
has him screaming all the way down.
- Waluigi's crotch chop
. He even has a variation where he starts to do it, only to wag his finger and say "ah, ah, ah!"
- Boo attempting to do Waluigi's crotch chop despite lacking both a crotch and arms long enough to do the motion in the first place, resulting in a rather goofy-looking nod.
- Daisy giving her team the evil eye
after letting the opponent get a goal in. Even funnier is how even Dry Bones is afraid of her.
- Bowser setting his team on fire for letting a goal in. Even funnier is that one of his teammates does the 'Stop, drop and roll' motion to put it out.
- Peach sometimes gets angry at her team for letting a ball in and stomps up and down in a tantrum. While amusing in itself, Birdo's reaction
is just comedy gold.
- Petey Piranha just swaggin' after scoring a goal. And for his visitor entrance.
- Petey eating one of the opposing teammates for scoring a goal while everyone else runs away screaming.
- Petey doing the limbo after scoring. Nevermind where Petey found the random scrap to make said limbo set.
- DK randomly punching the camera over in his exuberance.
- Waluigi does the same thing out of anger when the other team scores, while saying "cheese!"
- Luigi's Airplane Arms.
- Yoshi chasing his tail is both funny and adorable.
- When Diddy Kong scores a goal, he does a little victory dance, then stops and grins sheepishly when he realizes that everyone is watching.
- Dry Bones celebrating a goal by doing the worm. Their head ends up falling off.
- Bowser Jr., when frustrated, goes to kick one of the goalposts, only to stub his toe on it when he tries.
openCan a Continuity Nod qualify as a Mythology Gag at the same time? Videogame
Probably a stupid question, but, what the title says. This is a super specific situation I'm dealing with: I'm thinking of editing a page that's about the second game in a series that was originally self-contained but contained a cameo of the Big Bad from a previous game made by the same developer, before being adopted as part of a series later on as a Non-Linear Sequel.
Can this be considered both a Continuity Nod as well as a Mythology Gag, due to the circumstances? The page I previously made and edited currently lists it as a Mythology Gag when it really should be considered a Continuity Nod (a mistake from the days where I had way less experience as a troper), but can I retroactively slot the Continuity Nod in while explaining that it was originally the latter before later games made it into the former? Or should I Take a Third Option and just replace Mythology Gag with Continuity Nod and call it a day?
openNot sure this should have been removed. Videogame
I recently added an edit for Fourth Wall Myopia on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, that was removed:
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard: This is a major factor to Taash's infamous confrontation with their mother in their personal quest coming off as Unintentionally Unsympathetic to audiences, even though anyone familiar with such issues would recognize the ethos, logos and pathos all hold up. Taash's grievances were on paper entirely understandable; they were emotionally neglected by their mother for most of their life, and one of Taash's fundamental questions is how non-binary characters would even exist in a religion like the Qun. Suffice to say, not well at all; the Qun are adamant that the role you play is the one you're born in and will die in, and are likewise adamant that men and women are assigned to strict gender roles, and while this means that the Qun are surprisingly okay with trans people, they don't even consider non-binary people to even exist. This is a sentiment that several trans people go through when explaining their gender identity to their own parents, and Taash was clearly meant to emulate that with them finding it difficult to keep themselves composed over the matter as their mother doesn't even recognize why Taash made this choice and even insinuates that Rook had a reason for "making her like this". Unfortunately, due to Taash taking an overly defensive tone and their mother being calm by comparison, it comes off to many unfamiliar with such a dilemma that Taash's mother was being unfairly railed on by her child, despite the context making total sense within the universe. This leads to a scene that would otherwise be poignant being undercut by an awkward execution, even when the details of the scene in question make total sense on paper versus how it impresses on itself in practice.
The given reason for the removal was that "this trope is when character's actions make sense in-universe because they don't know something that the viewers do and thus the latter complain that the scene is irrational. In this case, it's not about having more knowledge of the characters (to the point the entry even says that viewers don't know certain elements, quite the opposite); plus, one complaint about taash's reaction is that it's very immature for their age, while it could've been more understandable if they were a teenager." Except that the edit itself notes that the execution is awkward and immature-sounding, and last I checked, the actual trope is that viewers do not realize that the plot is not known to the characters, or that they are in a story. In particular, that the Qun is very strict about gender roles, and so Taash being nonbinary does cause a breakdown in social roles.
Am I barking up the wrong tree here? I'm sincerely wondering.
Edited by LelielopenHow should I include this information? Videogame
Sorry if this is confusingly worded. If this is more of a Trope Finder sort of question, please tell me so or redirect me to elsewhere more appropriate.
Context: This query is about the song “Corruption” from the Phineas & Ferb themed Friday Night Funkin’ one-shot mod of the same name.
The mod’s creator Milo008 has released a remake of the song called Corrosion V2
with significant changes to production, most notably the lyrics rewritten to be more in-character. While the remake was never officially brought into the mod, it was very well received among fans of the one-shot and was considered to be even better than the original, to the point that there were multiple unofficial fan-made charts of this song for the mod itself.
I feel that this information is important to include in the description of this mod, but I don’t know how to mention this remake in the page, or to even mention it at all since it's outside of the mod.
Please advise.

open Is there a trope for.... Videogame
Is there a trope for video games where developers seem to anticipate a player will try a certain strategy, and design the level to make that strategy more difficult to implement than it seems? Or if they design the level to punish a certain kind of play, even if it's just the player being careless and not anticipating the consequences of their actions? Kaizo Trap seems close, but it's specifically about victory or completion, I'm thinking more in the general course of gameplay. Batman Gambit works but is very broad as a trope, and it may or may not be Developer's Foresight depending on the exact example.
As two examples that would fit what I'm thinking of:
- In Hitman, the water tower on Colorado seems like the perfect spot to snipe targets from. But if you try it you'll find yourself trapped, as the AI will instantly surround the water tower and pin you down there with no hope for escape.
- In Dissidia Final Fantasy, the last level of an optional dungeon lets you challenge your Assist character to access two chests behind them. But if you do that, you'll have no Assist when fighting the boss Gabranth, and he has a very potent EX Mode build (Assists as a mechanic hard-counter EX Mode, but you just killed your Assist).
openWMG Editing Videogame
There's been discussion over on WMG.Marvel Rivals that's called attention to some issues people have with the page, myself included. Being a hero shooter full of marvel characters, there's a big section on the page where ppl can speculate on who the next heroes are gonna be, with some making guesses about gameplay, character interactions and what role the devs will give them. The vast majority of it, however, has just been people throwing a bunch of marvel characters' names onto the list with no further elaboration or WMG regarding the game itself. And as a result it's just created this very bloated list with zero substance to the majority of it. It elicits the same feelings for me as a regular tropes page having a ton of ZCE entries. But I don't know if mods or other editors are approaching WMG with the same scrutiny as a tropes page, so idk how to further proceed with this issue. And it's not like it's an issue unique to this one page.

Troper True Shadow 97 has has engaged in edit war over people changing edits they have made on entries about the player character of video game Goddess of Victory: NIKKE.
They have left comments in the articles that clearly show they feel possesive over the way the player character is presented.
The first time I noticed this was with this edit:
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.GoddessOfVictoryNIKKETeamCounters&page=1#edit42772417
I removed a note thar tried to argue the canonicty of the entry.
They sent me several pm arguing about whether the side events are canon or not, they finally rewrote the entry here.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.GoddessOfVictoryNIKKETeamCounters&page=1#edit42788034
Did not contend because my main problem was with the note added and I can see the argument from Rapi's POV.
The second problem came when they added yet another note to downplay /argue against one of the entries on the Really Gets Around entry on the protagonist (Nikke is a harem gacha, so the protagonist gets physically intimate with SOME of the girls in the side stories).
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.GoddessOfVictoryNIKKETeamCounters&page=6#edit44875783
I removed this comment because I felt it was not only unnecessary, but wrong as the developers don't really make a distinction between main story and side stories, everything is considered canon.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.GoddessOfVictoryNIKKETeamCounters&page=6#edit44621706
They reverted the entry and added a new comment justifying itself here.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.GoddessOfVictoryNIKKETeamCounters&page=6#edit44875783
At this poit I felt the troper clearly has a wonk over the harem aspect of the game and is possesive of entries that downplay Rapi's position as the canon love interest (it is a sentiment I've seen expressed elsewhere on reddit and twitter, where people take issue with the Commander having intimate relationships with other characters, so they argue that these instances are not really valid because they never happen in the main story).
I made a previous ask the tropers entry that goes into more detail here. Never took any action because I got no feedback on it.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/query.php?parent_id=145452&type=att
Their last edit remained unchanged for months until some weeks ago when user dinur7.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.GoddessOfVictoryNIKKETeamCounters&page=8#edit46050529
This came along with a change in the description of the protagonist that to note them as a player avatar.
True Shadow 97 then reverts both changes to how they were before, including the Really Gets Around entry that waa already edited by them, and adds yet another comment justifying their reversion besdies the one they added when they reverted my change.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Characters.GoddessOfVictoryNIKKETeamCounters&page=9#edit46125477
The hidden comments in question.
"Commander is mentioned as being popular with many Nikkes in the main story using various phrasings, but the Downplayed part of the entry remains factually accurate: none of the events that are relevant to the Campaign Story as of Chapter 42, such as Dirty Backyard or D.ARK HERO involve him getting hot and heavy with anyone."
"The clarification in the following entry was previously removed as "unnecessary" on the grounds of an increasing amount of events getting interconnected and some of them being canonized by the main story, such as Helm's bond story. Clarification rephrased for improved relevance and restored on the grounds of many players believing that any of Commander's romantic or sexual escapades are canon to said main story (which is possible, but hasn't been established yet, while Mihara and Yuni's bond stories are explicitly non-canon due to directly contradicting the events of Chapter 4) and none of the events that have been explicitly canonized (such as Dirty Backyard) feature Commander entering relationships with anyone."
His argument that Dirty Backyard doesn't support the Commander being in other relationships is factually wrong, its part of a chain of side stories that have the commander involved directly with three of the nikke involved in the ongoing plot.
