Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.

openIs it safe to remake the Dungeons & Dragons: Literary Deities character page?
At present, my plan is to set up a sandbox page and slowly work on it until achieving an adequate level of quality to publish as an official character subpage.
openRogue Launch from TLP?
So I apparently got a message that Ending with a Scream was rogue launched after I did a small edit to the page. For future reference, how do I tell what pages are rogue launched?
openFanfic Rec pages formatting Literature
Is there a consensus on how to format a Fanfic Rec page besides the basics? LunaSlashSea has added a lot of three or even six full paragraph spaces to fic rec pages that aren't used on other pages, as well as divider lines (----) between every fic. It looks fine on the page itself but when going into the editor it's kinda messy, mainly for the big gaps.
FanficRecs.Hades and FanficRecs.Hadestown have those attributes, while FanficRecs.Slay The Princess and FanficRecs.Doki Doki Literature Club don't, for comparison.
Edited by lalalei2001openValid removal?
The bolded was removed from this entry I added under YMMV.My Little Pony Generation 5:
- Overshadowed by Controversy: While contentious for it Happy Ending Override of the previous series, My Little Pony: A New Generation was still seen as a strong start that got the fandom interested, only for the followup works to fail to measure up to that killing off much of the interest. But even critics were shocked by how abruptly Hasbro canceled it without explanation, right as it found its fandom, leaving tons of leaks for unfinished but promising content, investigation uncovering a lot of production drama behind the lowered quality and cancelations. So nowadays discussion of G5 is more likely to be about how the promising series was squandered and screwed over than the contents of the work.
The edit reason was "In point of fact, people gradually lost interest in G5 as it went on and the devoted fans were always a fairly niche group. Evidence also suggests that the generation was a financial failure, and its cancellation didn't necessarily come out of nowhere." I'd agree with this, but:
- I've seen no hard evidence like sales figures to say it was such a finical failure, and figures for how much smaller G5's fanbase is, to say it's cancellation was unsurprising.
- June 2023 is when they announced canceling the main G5 show, the same time it's seen as Growing the Beard, in favor of the Tell Your Tale spinoff citing it did better at appealing to the audience of the toys, but they canceled TYT Feb 2024 a few episodes into the new season, midway through production. Canceling their planned turnaround so abruptly, before it could have been determined if successful or not, makes me suspect sales/popularity alone can't explain unless it tanked even worse between those times which I've seen no sufficient evidence of.
- Hasbro still has not given an official explanation for the reason for the cancelation despite how much they were pushing the TYT focus.
Thoughts? Any objections to adding back? Or evidence/arguments regarding the matter?
openHate Sink misuse/edit war.
Characters.Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Earth Alliance
- Hate Sink: Inverted, she wasn't originally meant or created to be hated, but considering his her time in SEED, he she became like that, How?; Firstly, she's intolerable, a jerk, arrogant, selfish, cheated on boyfriend Sai, and manipulated Kira into seducing him into having sex with her against his will, and tried to shoot Dearka while he was imprisoned, even if she had any redeeming qualities, she wouldn't have been able to save from her death at the hands of Rau. Even her Ocean Dub Actor hate her and when flay died, she feels happy.
New troper Neo Ghidorah 64 added this. I deleted as she wasn't ment to be such given she eventually gets remorse for it and her fate is played tragically, and PM'd them about it. They then added it back, the only notable change is adding the first sentence which is misuse of inversion. (Also, it was consensual even if he exploited Kira traumatized state of mind. Immoral, but exaggerating her heinousness.)
Flay is a textbook Jerks Are Worse Than Villains, but not a deliberate HS. Entry is just listing negative traits and reactions, ignoring mitigating context.
This is practically the only page and item they've edited, so bringing to attention.
Edited by Ferot_DreadnaughtopenCan Broken Aesop go on a work's YMMV page?
So I found an entry for Broken Aesop on the YMMV for Donkey Kong Bananza, but when I clicked on the trope in question, it said that the trope was an opinion and shouldn't be listed on a trope page. Does that mean a normal trope page and YMMV is fine or should the entry be deleted?
openHow do you turn text into a link?
Hate to ask such a simple editing question, but how are you supposed to turn a bit of text into a link to a trope page. Best I could do was have the link appear as a [1]. I feel like the wiki page doesn't explain it clearly, I can't tell if I am supposed to use a [[]] or a {{}} to do it. Can someone explain it like I am 5?
Edit:
you put the text inside the brackets ([[]]), right after the link consiting of capitalized words. So an example would be writing the text ' me writing this query ' right after IdiotPlot within a pair of brackets, thereby making the correct link look like [[IdiotPlot me writing this query]] or me writing this query

openHades and Persephone
I undid edits by people who removed all mentions of Hades and Persephone having a happy and healthy relationship. But I fear they will try again and it will result in an editing war. Can someone do something to make sure that doesn’t happen? Edit: So this person, ninacius, just undid my edits. I was putting Hades and Persephone’s character folders back to how they were, with how they were one of the few happy and healthy marriages in the pantheon, as well as how Hades was one of the more reasonable and rational Gods and how Persephone grew into her role as the Queen of the Underworld. But this person removed all of that. I wanted to ask if I could restore it, again, without causing any issues. I feel like they will just undo my edits again and start an editing war

This is a character page for an upcoming work, and very few of the examples provided are in line with the upcoming work policy (most of it falls into Speculative Troping). What should be done? Commenting/editing out all the non-compliant examples? Cutting the page?
openInquiry about certain skeleton tropes Literature
Do zombies that are partially skeletal count towards tropes like Dem Bones and Skeletal Musician? I'm asking because I recently wrote a chapter for my original fictional story Earth's Scariest Monsters! about my Friendly Zombie OC Lauren Scott (whose left arm and right leg are completely skeletonized) playing instruments and singing at a solo, death-themed concert.

openPossible edit war
So a user by the name of Eag3r-Mc B3av3r has been reverting my edits on Eventuality. Most of the edits I've made recently have been aimed at this user's own poor grammar, with them repeatedly deleting commas that I put in and even continuing with this behavior in spite of me repeatedly sending them warnings and notes saying that they are poorly using grammar by deleting these commas. I'm not sure if this counts as an edit war or not but if it is, I would prefer someone else to step in as I feel like they are not listing to the notes I send them. For comparison, here is their edit history as well as mine for comparison.

openAre we allowed to reference other pages like this?
I don't think I've ever seen a clear answer for this, but I'm wondering, are we allowed to reference other users putting negative edits on our pages like this? There's a Reviews Are the Gospel example I want to add to YMMV.B To The F The Novelization Of The Feature Film:
- Reviews Are the Gospel: There are many people online who treat Ryan's opinions of the book as fact, something that's seeped onto its TVTropes page. Before the liveblog existed, you barely found anyone with such a negative opinion on the novelization, with most treating it as an interesting novelty due to it being based on the earlier scripts of the film.
On one hand, the fact a lot of those edits are on those page prove this audience reaction's validity, but on the other hand, wouldn't that date the example once the negativity from Literature.Back To The Future 1 is removed?
openPlaying With question
Just a question regarding possibly removing or rewriting a particular section of a Playing With article. I'm not sure if I'm right about this, so I might as well ask. The Friend to All Living Things page seems to be overall fine, but the second take on deconstruction is this:
"Alternatively: Alice attempts to befriend the local predator species only makes her end up as their newest meal."
Please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but this sounds more like a subversion than a deconstruction. If my understanding of deconstruction is correct, deconstructions require the initial, basic, played-straight trope to be in play first, before the realistic outcome emerges. FTALT involves animals being friendly to a certain person in its basic form, like a classical Disney Princess. Because the predator species is not affectionate and the attempts at befriending are a failure, not a success, this does not sound like a deconstruction to me.
With this in mind, is it okay to delete or rewrite this sentence, or does it fit deconstruction? I do not want to cause an edit war.
Edited by Silver-WinteropenUnsure where to start a work page, as one by the same name exists. Videogame
I am looking to start a works page for The Dark Eye, a point-and-click adventure game from 1995 - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Eye_(video_game)
.
However, I am aware that a works page describing a Tabletop Game by the same name exists - [1].
Am I correct in assuming the appropriate way to create a page for the point and click game would be to give it the namespace of The Dark Eye (1995) [2]? Or would there be a more appropriate way of doing this?

Recently a group of memes were removed from the Devil May Cry page. The cited reason was due to this link asking if it should be removed
on the Removing complaining, bashing and other negativity from the wiki board, however I saw no discussion on the matter on the following pages (links to currently available pages after dicussion 1
2
3
) yet it was removed regardless.
While the examples are critical of Adi Shankar, memes themselves are not simply positive things that get repeated, often negative ideas are also repeated. As such, something shouldn't be removed simply because it is critical of something be it fairly or unfairly.
Is this enough to remove these memes?
