openHorror High (1973) Film
Has anyone seen the 1973 film Horror High? It stars Pat Cardi, John Niland, and Austin Stoker and is about a bullied science nerd who gets revenge on his teachers by becoming a werewolf monster and killing them. I think it would make a good trope page
open John Wick 4: Safe to enter Harsher in Hindsight entry? Film
As we all know, Lance Reddick passed away not long before John Wick 4 hit the theatres. Spoilers for John Wick 4:
Early in the movie, Charon is executed by the Marquis for John Wick's murder of The Elder, which is really hard to watch knowing about Reddick's passing.
Wonder is it safe to enter such entry for now, especially since the YMMV page still don't have many entries yet?
Edited by ZovinopenAdult Swim's Yule Log Knight of Cerebus Film
So, I just recently watched Adult Swim Yule Log and I was wondering if I should add that the Yule Log itself became the Knight of Cerebus for the film, since even though the film started off with Pleatherface and his mother murdering a woman and hiding in the log cabin, the film took a darker turn when the Yule Log comes to life and starts murdering people.
open Win Back The Crowd Film
I need a clarification: is this trope only for franchises, or the general shift in creator's works that brings fans back? Yes, I know there is the "is this the example" forum thread, but this is a question regarding the trope in general, not just specific entry
openComplainy edit reason Film
3 days ago the following example on YMMV.Transformers Rise Of The Beasts was deleted by Energizer
:
- This has also led to theories about how Scourge is actually a version of Optimus from the same Bad Future, given that Scourge is Prime's Evil Counterpart in Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
openStar Wars example line Film
For all the Star Wars movies (including Rogue One), I have noted that all the introductory lines were changed from Movie Title provides examples of: to some paraphrased quote from the film shoehorning the word "trope" somewhere.
Some of those changes may be old, but the most recent ones were the deed of tropers rundownforge50 and Star Tropes.
I'd like to know if this was discussed somewhere, and what the hivemind thinks of these changes overall.
Edited by StFanopen"Works parodied" on film page for parody film - OK, or not? Film
On Film.Dont Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood, there is a section listing the films this movie parodied. Like so:
Works parodied:
- Boyz n the Hood
- Dead Presidents
- Friday
- Higher Learning
- Juice
- Menace II Society
- South Central
- Poetic Justice
I am fairly certain this is not allowed, nor have I seen this on other parody film pages. Should I remove this, or is it OK?
Edited by themayorofsimpletonopenJames Bond Film
Now that "Reality Ensues" has been renamed "Surprisingly Realistic Outcome", can we revive the Reality Ensues/James Bond page under the new name and/or add such examples to individual movie pages?
openSpoiler Policy Question Film
When has a work been out long enough that spoilers can be removed? In the MCU character pages, characters for Multiverse of Madness, Love and Thunder, and Wakanda forever are still under temp names to protect spoilers. Shouldn’t they be removed once a film hits either digital or physical release?
openHow to change entry title? Film
There's an article on TV Tropes about a thing I wrote but its title is improperly formatted. When I tried to edit the article I couldn't find an option to rewrite the title (in this case, to add exclamation points). Help!
PS the work I made is a musical but even though "theatre" is a category on TV tropes, it wasn't listed here so I picked "film"
open "Sweet release" vs "sweet relief" in "Super Mario Bros. Movie" Film
In the Final Trailer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it was thought that the Lumalee says "sweet release of death," but when you turn on the closed captions of the Final Trailer
at Illumination's official YouTube, the line says "sweet relief," which I had changed with citation
at Funny. However, ivantmyburd changed it back to "sweet release
," and I'd be edit warring if I changed it back to my edit of "sweet relief." Suggestions?
EDIT: Sent them a PM.
Edited by eagle108openMy Entry Was Contested Film
On the YMMV for Scream VI, ~impracticaltroper deleted my They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character entry:
- While it didn't end up being surprising that Laura Crane (Samara Weaving) would be axed off almost immediately—to the point of indeed being the first victim as that implication would've come because of the minimal use of her in the trailer, the setup of her being a professor having studied Horror films and teaching the different things they've done over the years could've been a highly valuable asset to the group throughout the movie. Instead, her being tricked into the secluded, dark alley to be killed by a total Ghostface amateur indicates that she's not only not as clever as she seemed to be, but only ultimately just there as a glorified cameo due to both the particular actress and her previous film with the directors as well—same for Henry Czerny above.
The reasons they gave was that her being intended as the first victim trumps this and Mindy and Kirby already fill the role she could've played. I disagree because aside from perception that she could've been bigger in the story being reasonable, the intention with the writing is irrelevant when it comes to what the audience perceives. Rather than add it again, I wanted to bring it here to get the proper discussion to determine whether or not it goes back up—which is reasonable because it's based on opinion.
Moving for it to go back up. What say everyone?
Edited by futuremoviewriteropenWeird Oldboy Remake Title Film
Oldboy (2013) is titled as "Film: Oldboy (2013)" as opposed to just "Oldboy (2013)". What's with that "Film" addition to the title?
Edited by KingofNightmaresopenOddity on the Super Mario Bros Character Page (possible edit-war?) Film
There's something weird going on over on the character page for the Super Mario Bros film.
Does every example really need to have it known that it was seen in the trailers? The troper Silverblade 2 seems to be convinced that everything needs some sort of citation as to where a trope example was seen at, which seems really overly strict.
EDIT: I wrote this not knowing that there's rules for Upcoming Works. I still think Silverblade 2 went about this all weird, but I get it.
Edited by RetlocliveopenSecond opinion on re-arranging Shrek character pages Film
I was looking at the character pages for Franchise/Shrek, and I noticed that the character folders for Kitty Softpaws and Perrito are grouped under allies, which feels wrong to me because, while they aren't main characters in the mainline Shrek movies (yet?), they are objectively main characters in the Puss in Boots movies, and with the ending of the latest Puss in Boots movie making clear that they're here to stay, and implying that they'll be involved in potential future Shrek movies, I feel like they should be recategorized under main characters. Does anyone else think so? I don't feel comfortable making such a drastic change unless I'm absolutely sure it should be done.
openStar Wars Clean-Up project done? Film
The Star Wars Clean-Up project
began in early 2020 and was labeled as a short-term project. Furthermore, there hasn't been a proper discussion on the discussion thread
since February 2022, and any further comments made since have received no reply. Given these factors I'm assuming the clean-up is done, but if that's the case why are the Star Wars and Star Wars pages still locked? Shouldn't they be unlocked now? Or at least the discussion thread needs more people monitoring it so people can request edits easier
openConfused Film
Hello! How are you? I'm a little confused about creating a subpage. I wanted to add Heartwarming or Tear Jerker from a movie and couldn't. I read the instructions and they said that it is the last option of Create New but it is not. Could you explain to me exactly how to do it? Please
Edited by GabyVMOopenDo we make trope pages for inanimate objects? Film
My information is likely outdated, but I was under the impression that we don't make trope pages for inanimate objects. But there's pages for Iron Man's different variant armors, the Vulture's wingsuit, etc. The reason I'm curious is awhile ago I asked if the Impala from Supernatural could have its' own page since it's practically a character, but was told that troping such an object wasn't permitted. Of course, there's a difference between a automobile and a battlesuit, so the reason is probably in there somewhere.

So, this may sound like a weird question, but how come sometimes the names of certain properties end up represented as a number 1 in square brackets?
