Ask the Tropers:
open A trope about a character having knowledge that they canonically shouldn't have? Film
I have searched everywhere and found no mention of it, but I want to double check with the tropers before I decide that no such trope exists. Is there a trope for characters having knowledge they shouldn't, purely due to a writing accident? The example that inspired this was a Fact Fiend video about Dennis Nedry that mentioned a guy in Jurassic World who was caught wearing a Jurassic Park shirt, which he said he bought off Ebay. He claimed to be a huge fan of what the original park was trying to do and was disappointed by what ultimately happened to it, but according to the Fact Fiend, he shouldn't have any of that knowledge at all, since the original park canonically never opened, was covered up by the government, and never released any merchandise.
Note that this is different from omniscience, where a character naturally knows things they shouldn't, or metagaming, where a player uses their own knowledge through a character that shouldn't have it. This is a broader term specifically relating to characters that, if canon is to be believed, shouldn't have that knowledge at all and had no means of obtaining it, regardless of whether or not they gain an advantage from it.

Do you you all think someone should edit the Spider-Man: Spider-Verse – Miguel O'Hara trope page by adding the Hair-Trigger Temper trope? Miguel has multiple scenes where he gets agitated easily, even before his Hidden Disdain Reveal with Spider Man Spider Verse Miles Morales

Looks like Film.Warrior Of The Lost World and its sub-pages are littered with references to the title character played by Robert Ginty who has No Name Given in the movie and credited as "The Rider" as "The Paper Chase Guy" as he's called in the MST3K episode that covers the film.
Should the instances of "Paper Chase Guy" be changed to "The Rider" to keep the movie page itself self-contained and consistent while adding a Fan Nickname to its YMMV?
openAdding to the pages Film
Hi,
How can I add to trope pages? Also, can I start a page for a movie?

openAbout the new examples and the SA thing (Trigger warning) Film
Reposting from Is this an example forum since I think I misused it. So I was think of moving the old version of Celeb Crush to Broken Pedestal while I add new details on Celeb Crush. Here's the new examples:
- Celeb Crush: Jane has a crush on the actor Paulo Avelino so much that she decides to secretly sneak into his truck while Paulo leaves the mall, which droves the main plot. It gets Deconstructed later on as Jane slowly sees who Paulo really is in the second half.
- Broken Pedestal: Jane has had a crush on Paulo Avelino from the start. While Jane is still enamored with Paulo when she meets him in person, by the end of the movie she wants nothing to do with him afterward. Not only is he inconsiderate, but he also rapes her and puts her life as well as his son's life at risk near the end of the movie.
About the fictional sexual assault thing, I still kinda don't get how the original creator of the original example of Celeb Crush called it sexual assault, Paulo did not physically hit Jane in that manner when he had"sex" with her. I do not think that's sexual assault, I think that's rape because Paulo was a grown man who was under the influence of drugs or alcohol while Jane is a teenager (16 years old, mind you), thus she did not have consent and was confused (and later gives in because she had a crush on him although she had a painful experience) at the time even though she has the sexual thoughts of Paulo and her together before. So that's one of the reasons why I change the wording in an old version of Celeb Crush that is now Broken Pedestal.
Don't worry I'll get my grammar from my new examples fixed soon. So what do you guys think? And do you think my change is reasonable or not?
Edited by BubblepigopenIs that a right way to use example indication when it's only one? Film
I was planning on editing one film page of Fangirl but I just stumble upon seeing this one example that may use example indication incorrectly. Do yuo guys think it use correctly or not? Here's an example:
- Celeb Crush: VERY MUCH deconstructed
- While Jane is still enamored with Avelino when she meets him in person, by the end of the movie she wants nothing to do with him afterward. Not only is he inconsiderate, but he also sexually assaults her and puts her life as well as his son's life at risk near the end of the movie.
openSomeone deleting fridge entries Film
Someone on the fridge page for John Wick 4 has deleted most of the contributions, based on very petty and subjective reasons, IMO. Is that allowed? https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Fridge.JohnWickChapter4

Hey there, I am a wannabe contributor who wants to make a page for the Hindi film Nayak: The Real Hero. My main problem is that I do not know what tropes are part of this film and thus require your help. The film may be in Hindi but using a translator or perhaps just looking for the speakers' voice tone and body language could help discern some potential tropes.
openPotential edit war Film
So I’ve been looking through the edit history of the MCU: Peggy Carter and I’ve only just now realized that there’s a possible edit war a few months back and I don’t know if it still applies considering how it’s only a few months ago. So I’ve removed a folder per consensus
and then Darth Davros 75 readded it despite the consensus
so I had to remove it again and remind that it was removed per consensus
. Is he edit warring and if so, is it still penalizable even if it’s months ago?
open I Think Someone Has Made An Inappropriate Page Film
I just discovered that someone has created a page for a movie called Theresa & Allison. The main problem with it however, is that the image for the page depicts the two female leads naked, with only their breasts covered. I'm pretty sure this goes against site regulations, so something should probably be done about it.
open Disposability of a character on a whim? Film
Is there a trope to describe a specific situation of decadent insouciance and spectacular cruelty in which the most capricious, ephemeral pleasure of one means unimaginable pain and/or death for another (in both film and literature)? Thulsa Doom in Conan the Barbarian asks a girl to fall to her death and she does so unflinchingly. Salome dances sensually for Herod to have John the Baptist's head served in a golden charger. Roman emperors are making merry as the gladiators in the arena are shredded to pieces. The rich guests place bets and sip cocktails in the Hostel franchise as the hapless victims get tortured and killed for their entertainment, and so on. Are there any tropes for the agonizing torture/death on a whim in a setting of decadent excess?
openApostrophe Film
The title of my Western that I want to add to TV Tropes includes an apostrophe. Is there any way to keep that apostrophe as the article's title, or do I have to remove it completely?
open Happy about something bad Film
Update— I have entered this query into the Trope Finder feed.
What is the trope called where someone reacts to bad news with a happy response?
Example:
He: Sales are down by 50% this year.
She: I know— isn't it great!
Edited by lynnscreenwriteropenHyphenating an abbreviation Film
Does anyone know why many of the articles for the James Bond films (and probably other media in the franchise) have the famous British foreign intelligence service MI6 written as "MI-6"? I would presume this also pertains to other fictional works depicting MI6, MI5 and possibly even (the fictional and parodic) MI7 in the Johnny English series. Just simply writing it as MI6 reads better, so I would like to edit to correct as many instances as I can. The hyphen/dash seems really redundant. Is it just because you need to write square brackets and equals on them to have them written as a simple abbreviation and not a link, and some tropers might not know how to do that?
Edited by FlashStepsopenWant to split a page Film
Les Visiteurs covers three films plus general tropes from the series, complete with each individual film having its own picture in its folder. I think that the contents of the folders could just be moved to their own pages since they're pretty much complete trope pages in their own right, but should the existing one be moved to the Franchise namespace to cover the series in general, or should it just be changed to a page for the first film?

Misogynist character in Mulan had this quote at the end - "In Asia, the women come second."
Now Listen, I'm not asian. I don't know if this is problematic. Heck, maybe the troper who wrote is asian themselves. I don't know if any harm was meant. But I've seen asians, by the by, complaining about the hypocrisy of the West and whatnot. I just want to know is this comment...it's so generalizing, I want to figure out if this was a problematic thing before confronting them.
