openWebcomic cut request from creator, part two Webcomic
A few days ago, I posted this query about Lelene019 cutlisting Doodleland Comics because the creator took it down and doesn't want it listed here. It was locked due to being derailed, but the issue wasn't really resolved; after the cut request was declined, Lelene decided to repost the request. I'm going to message them so it can be actually discussed instead of cutlist warring.
open The Sinfest Forum Thread Webcomic
I've sent a few hollers regarding the thread, but I don't know if they got lost or something, so here's something a bit more permanent;
The thread, while very productive in its early life, in its current state has devolved into "Let's insult, bash, and mock the creator like he's actually reading any of this" — which, from what I heard about the guy is actually pretty understandable, but that's all the thread is these days. When someone tries to talk about the actual comic, it immediately derails back into the creator.
It actually kinda worries me since this behavior is incredibly similar to the internet's odd obsession with Chris-Chan, and I'm not the only one who thinks this (side note, the thread regular below that post not only agreed, but their signature is literally "I just came to talk about how horrible Sinfest is.").
Edited by Crossover-Enthusiastresolved Sinfest Single Issue Wonk Webcomic
Kizor just went and vandalized the main description of Webcomic.Sinfest, after they argued with complaining cleanup thread about a previous edit they made (That was eventually reverted) that added a couple of rants paragraphs calling the webcomic "Nazi bullshit" among other things.
If it isn’t a vandal attempt, then it was a unilateral change. I honestly don’t know.
Edited by PlasmaPoweropenSubjective pages by work's creators Webcomic
I've only just recently realised that the only non-cleanup/maintenance edits to the YMMV/, Awesome/, AwesomeMusic/, Funny/, Heartwarming/, and NightmareFuel/ subpages of Webcomic.White Dark Life have been made by either Luigifan or PrinnyOverlord... who are identified on the main page as the work's co-creators.
Should they be cutlisted?
Edited by mlsmithcaopenNSFW Offsite Links on Work Page Webcomic
The page for The Perry Bible Fellowship has a section for tropes occurring in individual strips, several of which include NSFW links. I don't think it meets the criteria for pornography, as it's an adult humor comic and not used for titillation, but there's uncensored breasts and genitalia, depictions of sex, etc. I was under the impression that this was against the rules (or at least, other NSFW works like Oglaf have notices on their pages to not link directly to NSFW content).
The page itself is kind of messy to begin with, since I'm not sure if there really needs to be a divide between recurring tropes and ones that occur in just one or two strips, but the main thing that caught my attention was the links being on the page. Is this in need of cleanup?
openWeblinks and paywalls - Dilbert Webcomic
After creator Scott Adams' recent Role-Ending Misdemeanor lost Dilbert's syndication, he relaunched the website and (as I understand it) put all of the older strips behind a paywall.
Understandably, that broke our links to them in many examples.
(Not that any of the examples should actually need them for context, as links are not examples)
Natsirtthe Man has been working through the Dilbert pages and replacing the dead links with web.archive.org links that pull the old strips without hitting the paywall, sort-of circumventing it.
Do we have any concerns about that approach, given that they're now supposed to be members only? Technically, anyone could find them this way without us, but it does feel as if it might break the spirit, if not the letter, of the rules?
Edit: although having checked his site, I have no idea what's actually going on right now. Looks like the approach is changing again. Even so, would be interested in a steer on this.
Edited by Mrph1openSmackjeeves is closing Webcomic
The webcomic hosting site Smack Jeeves is closing at the end of December. What should be done about webcomics with trope pages that are hosted on that site?
openis this a violation of ROCEJ? Webcomic
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Main.OvershadowedByControversy
Scifimaster 92 deleted the following entry from Overshadowed by Controversy:
- Sinfest, a webcomic initially known for its raunchy, dark comedy and its lighthearted parodies of religious tropes, garnered a much more negative reputation after the onset of the Sisterhood arc in 2011, which radically shifted the comic's focus into a story-driven one with heavy, radical feminist overtones. What made this so controversial was a combination of its misandrist attitudes towards men, the author's constant deflection of criticism as "dudebro misogyny," attempts at using female characters to speak for women despite being a middle-aged man (as well as insulting women who disagree with his views), and more recently the use of the Sisterhood as a mouthpiece for transphobia, depicting gender non-conforming individuals as liars and literal zombies. Consequently, the comic's fanbase has been hemorrhaging out over the years, the author's Patreon is seeing a steady decline in support, and Sinfest is now more well-known for its trans-exclusionary radical feminist overtones than for anything else about it.
now, some of this probably does need to be cut, the bits about misandry and the like are likely to attract MRAs. however, TV Tropes explicitly takes a pro-trans, anti-transphobia stance. i dont think it runs afoul of ROCEJ to condemn TERFs.
im trans myself, so i may be too close to this issue to view it objectively. id like some input on whether it's kosher to include or not.
Edited by razorrozar7openEdit warring Webcomic
It seems Geodude6 doesn't like his changes being contested and reverted one back on Characters. The Order Of The Stick The Order Of The Scribble without trying to discuss it.
I would have let it slide, except with all the other very arguable changes they'd made on the OotS character pages, one of which had required a mod revert, I'd say we have a problem troper here.
openOut of policy deletion? Webcomic
Does the deletion of The Scumthorpe Files violate The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours ? To quote the reason for cutting:
"This page was cut for reason: As the author of this work, I would greatly prefer it if this page no longer existed- it relates to something that I have not worked on in quite some time, that I have since grown completely disillusioned with, and that I would ultimately like to be forgotten. Dead fic, essentially- no real point in keeping this around. All links to this page from other pages on this site have already been removed, in order to prevent its deletion from causing broken links and red text elsewhere- I hope this helps. [Mingham Smith]"
open Tropes used to air greviences with creator Webcomic
The page Lily's Poke-Madhouse and Lily's Poke-Madhouse are seeing several edits by people using the page to air out their grievances with the creator regarding the trope "Write who you know"
openBusted Page Image? Webcomic
Dinosaur Comics has a unique layout for the page, since the trope description is conveyed through the page image, to reflect how every comic in the series has the exact same panel layout just with different dialogue.
Because of this, the page image is technically three images placed side-by-side, but the far-left image won't display for me. It works fine when displaying the page in preview mode, but it doesn't seem like there's any formatting issues that need to be fixed.
So, is this a display issue? We need all three images to work in order for their to be a proper description of the comic, but it's not working. Is there a way to fix this that I'm missing?
openIs this allowed? Webcomic
On Trivia.Sandra And Woo, I discovered this entry:
- Money, Dear Boy: In order to get more exposure for the comic, Novil offered to pay anyone who could improve the comic's TV Tropes page as well as mentioning the comic under associated trope pages.
It was added back in 2016 by Angeldeb82. I'm pretty sure this violates some kind of rule, but I don't know what. Has this been brought up before? Are we aware of anyone following through on this if it isn't allowed?
Edited by themayorofsimpletonopenEssential Third Act Twists copyright? Webcomic
Is the page JustForFun.Essential Third Act Twists okay for us to have on the wiki? Its sole purpose seems to be reproducing a full webcomic strip◊ — that definitely violates our copyright policy, right?
openRepeat AutoEroticTroping offense Webcomic
I ended up coming across the page TearJerker.Sonic Into Across And Beyond, as the main page has come up in the related query for another work I follow.
This would not be a problem if not for the following two reasons:
- The sole contributor to the article is Motorbike User 43, who is also the author of this fic.
- This person has already been suspended before for Auto-Erotic Troping.
Though I hate to throw another user under the bus (they've consistently reacted very poorly to being called out for policy violations, self-flagellating rather than trying to improve), I draw the line at behavior indistinguishable from ignorance.
Edited by TrocyteVopenGirl Genius Webcomic
On the work page of Girl Genius, there was this line in the description:
"Look over the Girl Genius character sheet, or talk about the comic in our discussion forum for Girl Genius."
I removed the link to the character sheet, as it's redundant and I was told they have to be removed; however, what's the deal with the link to the forums? Is that allowed? I'm asking because Girl Genius seems to be very popoular on TV Tropes (over 3000 wicks and Image Source for 36 tropes) so I'm not understanding if that link to the forum is something that kept going past the radar for years, or it was allowed by someone.
openSmackjeeves Webcomic
I'm just carrying some news so sorry if this may be a repost (I haven't looked on the forums), but Smackjeeves recently had an overhaul that broke all old links to it from here on TV Tropes.
I just want to note two things: 1) Any old links in the various pages here will either need updating to the new links, to be replaced with links elsewhere (a lot of comic authors are leaving Smackjeeves), or to be excised entirely.
2) Let's just say the changes are really hated, so the YMMV page at Smack Jeeves may need to be watched for complaining and creator bashing.
Edited by Ngamer01openFinal Smash Webcomic Webcomic
Article Link: Final Smash!
Troper Orange Kyle 91 apparently has "blanked" the page at the request of the comic author (saying there is proof the creator requested removal of the page which breaks "The Fic May Be Yours, But The Page Is Ours" rule).
I have reverted the blanking and PM'd the troper about the rule and this Ask the Tropers thread, but I figured I should note this occurrence here for the future.
EDIT - Oh I forgot to mention, the comic author apparently has cancelled the comic, but mirrors do exist elsewhere I believe.
Edited by Ngamer01openWhat, exactly, is Reactions.Homestuck? Webcomic
What is Reactions.Homestuck?
Given how impermeable the fandom is I can't even make heads or tails of the page.
PrincessPandaTrope and I are the only two people who frequently edit the page for the Sonic the Hedgehog fan comic Ghosts of the Future. I'm starting to understand why nobody else wants to edit the page. She keeps sending me PMs after I edit, saying that she's "very disappointed with" me for not phrasing things exactly the way she wanted.
One example would be my latest edit, where I removed the word "very" from a lot of edits, since it's a word that usually doesn't do any good. Saying "the house is very big" doesn't actually give you any more exact info about how big the house is than if you just say "The house is big."
She PMed me and said that I should have replaced it with a more descriptive adjective instead, without explaining why she couldn't do that herself.
She also said that I was giving the middle finger to the comic's creator, Evan Stanley, by replacing "very [adjective]" with a plain "[adjective]". She said that I was misleading people about the content of the comic this way—as if I had changed an exact measurement to one less exact or accurate.
And then there's the time when she asked people to cut down the wall of text in one entry, and then when I did that, she asked me to explain why I deleted things. I tried to be polite, but I wondered why she even asked for help if she expected people to follow rules she never bothered mentioning.
(Then, in an act of Edit Warring, she put back things I'd taken away.)
It feels like she's decided that my only task is to fix the grammar and spelling mistakes she keeps making again and again. It also feels like she's got this idea of how the page must be written that she assumes everybody else knows and she therefore chooses never to tell people about.
To be frank, she's acting like she's Knuckles the Echidna and the GotF page is a Chaos Emerald. ('Cause she's acting like its guardian, geddit?)
Short version: This troper is rude, keeps edit warring and has page ownership issues, and it's getting very tiring.
