Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- • General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- • Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- • Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.

Ask the Tropers:
openTroper sandboxes?
I've sometimes seen people editing what seem to be personal Sandbox pages—things in the Sandbox namespace with that troper's username.
Are we allowed to just create personal Sandbox pages? Because it's something I'd like to do if possible. I've been making page drafts just in Notepad, but being able to actually make them on the site would be nice, without everything getting lost in the big mess that's the Wiki Sandbox. (Plus, big pages like that are slow to edit...)
openTroper with oodles of problems
This troper here has problems with examples not being self-contained, referring to "the above mentioned" example; writing with awkward phrasing ("wasn't having to follow him repeatedly"?) and so on.
Edited by MichaelKatsuroopenExamples are not arguable
Does Examples Are Not Arguable apply to YMMV and Sugar Wiki items? For example, is it OK to use "arguably" on an Awesome Music page?
openGLaDOS Page weirdness
Something weird is up with SelfDemonstrating.G La DOS (Unless it's just my phone.)
It's full of end lines as though someone had added double slashes between almost every word. But theres nothing like that in the page source and I can find nowhere in the history where it was vandalized.
The page has a metric crap ton of formatting to give it its voice. Did it break the page?
openWeird "review" and other problems
Knep has posted a strange review for the cartoon "Allen Gregory" (link here). It doesn't explain how the troper feels about the work, and instead only points out that the show has a Pun-Based Title. I don't really read many reviews on this site, so I'm not sure if this is allowed.
A few other problems I noticed while checking their edit history:
- Ending sentences with commas instead of full stops: here and here.
- Improper grammar here.
- Zero-Context Example here.
- Incorrect indentation here.
- Using the Woobie trope to describe any characters who suffer any kind of misfortune, regardless of whether or not the audience is supposed to feel extremely sorry for them. Other than the Spongebob example, there is this one; and in both cases the characters' afflictions are Played for Laughs.
openDirect to profile move Web Original
So, in my review of several Super Sentai pages, I've noticed a few times a character in the group get called either The Smart Lancer or The Big Lancer (with links to relevant Lancer/Smart Guy/Big Guy pages). It's making me wonder if maybe these 'Lancer combos' should become either full-fledged pages of their own or maybe just side notes on the Lancer page itself. I just wanted to discuss this before launching any Trope pages. Along with https://saukrit.com/profile-creation-site-list
Edited by saurabhopentrope slashing notifier?
Is there a notifier that covers trope slashing? i.e. writing examples like:
open"Less Violent" female deaths. Videogame
I have seen some tropes that skim on this (Beauty Is Never Tarnished even mentions this in passing but it isn't for what I am talking about). This isn't specifically about games either.
Anyways. Is there a specific trope that can be referenced to when the deaths female characters endure are not as violent/gory as male ones? Not trying to say death is gentle in anyway but what I mean is, like in Resident Evil 4 Leon can have his face burned off, head cut off and various other deaths. Ashley on the other hand only has one exclusive death where her neck is snapped and doesn't affect her hourglass figure in any way.
I was playing Star Wars Chess (yes I am serious) and noticed Leia's "deaths" compared to Luke. Again there is some serious overlap with the trope mentioned but some of her deaths it isn't exactly clear when she dies honestly. Darth Vader looks more like he kidnaps her more than kill her.
I guess, my question is that is there a trope that covers specifically when the deaths or even just the penalties for the ladies are not as violent as males?
openEdit on YMMV.WatchDogsLegion
So, over on YMMV.Watch Dogs Legion, Annoyed Owl 225 added:
That feels a lot like outright saying "um, actually anti-immigration talking points are right". Especially since the in game group is largely based on the real life EDL (English Defence League, up to and including an achievement satirising their slogannote Theirs is "England for the English", the achievement is "England for Everyone"), and that example contains their talking points ("We don't hate immigrants, we're just worried about [insert bigoted stereoype here]").
Edited by Bisected8openMove Recap Fridge page to series Fridge page?
Fridge. My Little Pony Equestria Girls Costume Conundrum was created for Recap. My Little Pony Equestria Girls Costume Conundrum. It has only four bullets.
I recall from awhile back it was said such should be moved/redirect to the series-wide Fridge page. Should I do that?
openTroper changed trope entry
Troper Saeed-Albastaki changed a trope entry which I had changed back a while ago. This is on the Fryderyk Chopin page.
Originally, there was an entry called "Ill Boy" which was custom potholed to the trope page Ill Girl. My understanding is that we're not supposed to do that, that the entry is supposed to be for what the trope is named.
I changed this back to Ill Girl with an explanation about why it was fixed. Troper Saeed-Albastaki has now changed it to Ill Man, and it look as if in the interim, the trope is now listed as
Ill Girl: aka Ill Man
At the time, I don't think the trope title read this way.
Is either version acceptable now? At one point, there was a parallel situation with Definite Article Title and The The Title where both versions seemingly were acceptable; it said
Definite Article Title: aka The The Title
The latter has since been dropped, and everything that had either option is now the first entry only.
Do I leave "Ill Boy" as is or change it? I don't want to edit war here.
Thanks!
openIs Opening A Can Of Clones a YMMV trope?
If it isn't, then it probably should be, since it hinges on viewers not feeling any tension due to a lack of guarantee that a given plot point will last permanently.
Edited by JonahtheMannopenNo Title
The description of Role-Ending Misdemeanor has this at the end:
"This is a trope, as the events and narrative affect each other."
Should it be there? The banner at the top of the page says it's trivia, but there are in-universe examples.
openIs there a cleanup for YMMV pages in general?
I recently stumbled on YMMV.BECK, which has, in no particular order, trivia and main tropes in YMMV, various incorrect uses of playing with for YMMV tropes, conversation and references to other tropes in write ups, and line breaks between examples.

openReviving Crying
So... Reviving Crying just launched. It was only proposed 4 days ago and didn’t have 5 net hats. Plus, there are concerns about its similarity to Swiss-Army Tears that were not addressed. There was also no prior indication of launch. Should it be sent back to the launchpad?
Edited by audgetroubleopenI have a strange question.
I was wondering if the picture of gore or disturbing details of dead bodies (from movies or tv shows ) is allowed as an image for Nightmare Fuel page in any meta? Because if it's not allowed I will report it to here if I found it.

openWhere do I go? Film
Where do I go if I want to know why these ghosts of Asian horror films prey upon perfectly innocent people whom they do not know and had NOTHING to do with their deaths?
There's a user by the name of ryah who has been editing with some very poor grammar, rendering their contributions essentially nonsensical. I am currently on an endeavour to clean up their edits. What should be done about them?
