openWrong Genre Savvy Question Film
When I looked at the Playing With and Examples from the Wrong Genre Savvy page it seemed that I seemingly may have misuderstood the concept of Wrong Genre Savvy.
When I saw the trope title Wrong Genre Savvy I thought it meant somebody is aware of the genres of fiction and they think the "real life" scenario they're in is the wrong fiction genre.
An example of what I think I think Wrong Genre Savvy was/should be: Kristine and Blake are between the rural area and suburbs where several faceless goons are. They think they're gang members and this is an action genre where they're the gun toting heroes. It turns out the leader of the faceless goons is a spree killer like jason voorhees and they're the lone survivor/final girl
Edit:
Can somebody/someone give the most basic and generic layman definition of Wrong Genre Savvy?

So... Tropers/Emberfist seems to have a fixation with YMMV.Blac Kk Klansman, specifically with the way its ending uses footage of the Charlottesville incident to draw parallels between the KKK in The '70s and (in their words) the Trump Administration in The New '10s —and how this falls under Anvilicious.
Normally, I wouldn't make a fuss, but:
- a. This is the Trump Administration we're talking about. I don't know if Americans realize it, but there's only two reactions when the name "Donald Trump" is mentioned: fervent patriotism or frothing rage. No middle ground. Hence, anything mentioning Trump should, IMHO, be hacked with a chainsaw.
- b. Emberfist added the example again a couple of weeks back (after removing it from Some Anvils Need to Be Dropped), only way more in-your-face. I removed it on the grounds that it showed political bias. I hoped they'd learn their lesson and drop it, but...
I snipped away at the most politically charged bits, but I'm still not comfortable with the result.
Anyway, other that this their edits to YMMV.Blac Kk Klansman were kosher; those examples under SANTBD were so bloated and non-ROCEJ that they needed an axe.
openOverly protective of the DCEU. Film
Somewhat preemptive, but Deeed is being way protective of the DCEU and edit-warring to do so.
The worst example so far is on IdiotPlot.Live Action Film, where they pulled an entry without an edit reason. A discussion post was made by someone else asking for an explanation, and then it was restored after I pointed out that it was deleted without explanation (which, you know, is vandalism). They did then participate in the discussion... after re-deleting the movie, and rather than give an explanation, they linked a bunch of youtube links and said "no, it's totally explained." So they are using the discussion... but upon further thought, that might be worse since they're ignoring it.
Also unacceptable:
- Deleting link to a narm subpage
- Again, deleting an entire movie without explanation. When it was restored, they then neutered an example into what's at best a ZCE, despite being near-universally considered laughable.
Now again, this is preemptive as though he's edit-warring, he's at least checking discussion pages and responding, even though his responses are unsatisfactory.
Edited by LarkmarnopenHow soon is too soon for a Film page? Film
I'm not sure if this is where you'd ask this question, but are there any rules/guidelines regarding how early is too early for a film to have its own page? I wanted to make a page about the upcoming Disney live action film "Sadé" (https://www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/961177-sade-disney-developing-live-action-fairy-tale-about-african-princess) but there hasn't been any word from production yet other than that the film is being made and its basic premise.

openTEARJERKER HELP Film
Do anyone know how to make a sub page (example: Tearjerker) on another page? I want to make a tearjerker page on some movie pages, but I don't know how. Can any of you help me? Thanks.
open Captain Marvel YMMV Recreation Film
I think Captain Marvel should be unlocked. Sure, there was some bad stuff there, but not enough to justify deleting the whole page. All superhero movies get YMMMV pages before release. Who can unlock the pages.
openHarry Potter poster images Film
Recently there were some new images added to the Harry Potter film pages, replacing the original images on the top-right of each page. Although I wasn't the one who originally added them, I was actually in favour of these new images. However, the pages were all reverted for being an undiscussed change. Where would I go to open up a discussion about this?
open Title isnt showing up right Film
I just created the page 13 Minutes. However, it doesn't show up as numbers (like 13 Minutes). Is there some error I made here?
openHow on earth do I create a subpage TearJerker for the Smallfoot Page? Film
I don’t know how do do it???
open More modern "Prisoner" style movie Film
Over 10 years ago I saw this movie that I have been trying to track down. It was kind of a modern take on that old show the prisoner. The guy was a spy or something and gets injured on a mission and when he wakes up is on an island where they can't leave. They have to check in with a blood sample every morning. Ultimately he recovers from his wounds ans starts planning his escape. I remember this one scene where he is using cigarettes burning beside the tube to train him self to hold his breath longer. Ultimately he escape on one of the supply airplane drop/pickups...
openPhotoflood Lighting Film
How does Photoflood Lighting relate to Nuclear Candle? Is it the same, except with electric lights? A subtrope?
open 90's - 2000's TV show Film
Hello!
I'm trying to find a really old TV series possibly German. I don't know what was it about I just recall a girl having a real life bunny named Anita.
I don't have much info about it. Here goes nothing.
- Tv series NOT animatedHappening on the countrysidePossibly German. It could be synchronized in German. That's just not a fact.A girl had a brown RABBIT NAMED ANITA! The rabbit was real and somehow performed miracles.
openPages for Documentaries that Trope RL? Film
The page we have for Fyre includes troping events that are not brought up in the documentary, and also some tropes that are generally NRLEP (e.g. Chronic Villainy) being applied to real people. It seems like a gray area to me, and I don't want to unilaterally make a bunch of changes.
As documentary pages generally blur the lines between troping the documentary and troping RL people/events, should we make an active effort to clean them up or just make short-term efforts for specific problematic pages?
Edited by WaterBlapopenWhat Could Have Been for an unreleased work? Film
I know the question about having YMMV pages for unreleased works has come up before, but I want to get feedback on a Trivia page made for a work. Specifically, one made for the just announced Batman movie.
I may just be paranoid, but does anyone else find this...weird? The movie is so far out, and I find it odd to call a What Could Have Been for something that's at minimum 2+ years out. Yet, I don't want to unilaterally cut it.
Opinions?
openUser threatening to delete YMMV entry Film
At YMMV.Space Jam, User TV Lubber had been deleting notes from Harsher in Hindsight about R. Kelly's music which stated that it was more difficult to enjoy t he movie's songs after the recent documentary 'Surviving R. Kelly' where multiple women alleged sexual abuse and predatory by the musician.
I added an example back once and wish to avoid an edit war, but received a PM from TV Lubber starting that I am only 'assuming R. Kelly is a criminal' and everything against him is merely hearsay and that he 'has to change it.'
Anything that can be done here? As said, I don't want to edit war here, but this appears very agenda driven.
openHTTYD: Hidden World Tearjerker Film
So I added an entry under Tearjerker, a person called phylos chopped it up, and their edit reason was "Not only this was an incorrect detailing of what happened, it's also a weird attempt to anthromorphosize Toothless, who's never been portrayed as anything more than an animal."
Like, okay, fine, I got it. This person and I have different thoughts on the movie. However, they have an odd agenda against any edits portraying Toothless as anything but a nonsentient animal, which is patently wrong. It's getting annoying.
Edited by SpacecoyoteopenStranged By the Red String, HTTYD: Hidden World Film
"Not only is applying this to a couple of animals weird on itself but a solid third of the movie is dedicated to the courtship. If you don't like it, put it in broken base, but this does not fit SBTRS"
So I added this example because, while the movie's about Toothless and the Light fury, it's not about their courtship; they have one scene dedicated to their courtship. They pretty much fall in love at first sight, have their four minute "first date", and the rest of the movie is about their relationship taking precedence over literally every other character, relationship, priority, and theme HTTYD has ever presented to us. Thoughts?
Edited by Spacecoyote
Since the movie officially comes out tomorrow, Is it okay to recreate the YMMV page for Captain Marvel?
