The Narm page claims it's allowed on YMMV pages but when I check out the Metal Gear page it claims it's Flame Bait and should be kept off the work pages. Why is this?
openInconsistent standards for the That One tropes? Videogame
It took me a while to notice, but there appears to be some inconsistency with what applies for any of the That One tropes for certain games. For example, back when Fire Emblem Warriors came out, Gunarm Dyne stated that nothing besides the story mode could be any of the That One tropes. This was despite the fact that the bulk of the games content is in the History Mode, which while "extra content", is still a part of the game and was clearly designed to be where most of the game is played. Meanwhile, the Hyrule Warriors pages have several That One Level entrees for its equivalent of the History mode, and its DLC or Legends port.
If we look outside of this as well, games such as the Dark Souls series have many of the extra/dlc locations/bosses as That One examples. While yes the Souls games are not the same gameplay genre as a Warriors game, they still should be held to the same standards since Brutal Bonus Level would imply that the level is extra, outside of the games main content, which if anything, the History mode for FE Warriors is where most of the games content is.
I've also not, as far as I know, seen Brutal Bonus Level being used on any of the mentioned pages. I'd like if some agreement could be made since it seems silly that FE Warriors is the only page I've seen so far that this was made a big deal about, though I could be wrong.
Edited by keyblade333openYMMV Octopath Traveler edits Videogame
Over on YMMV.Octopath Traveler Knack is deleting stuff like Fan-Preferred Couple, Narm, Ho Yay, and They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot, with edit reasons boiling down to "It doesn't make sense to be bothered by something for how it was intended", but I'm unsure if it's enough to warrant deletion as I have seen several people on multiple forums and discussion boards talking about the content in entries that were deleted, with many people talking about how they wished there was more character interaction during stories and/or the characters piecing together what they experienced throughout the story.
Another editor had put the deleted stuff back, saying "YMMV is based on opinions and, at least according to the pictures posted on Tumblr, these opinions seem to be widespread enough to be mentioned on this page. The fact that the game doesn't acknowledge the presence of the other travelers even in events in which they should be (Primrose is wounded, Therion is infiltrating a place) is a valid point and far from inaccurate." only for them to be deleted again.

openNarm not YMMV? Videogame
On YMMV.Mortal Kombat Special Forces I found a hidden comment that reads this:
I see Narm all the time on YMMV pages, and the trope page for it mentions that it's YMMV material, not Darth Wiki. Am I missing something, or is the person who added this wrong?
Edited by JRads47openDragon Quest V Complaning and Misuse of Woolseyism Videogame
Woolseyism: Almost everything has been renamed in the English localization. If you don't dig the Punny Names and the Narm Charm of the localization, this game will be a Macekre for you. Especially if you've already played the much more faithful fan translation of the original SNES game.
I dont know if the Complaining is kosher or not but this is most definitely a misuse of Woolseyism.

openEdit war on Hades' YMMV page. Videogame
On the YMMV page for Hades, troper _____________
added an example for Narm:
- Narm: The game is rated T, so it can't show anything too crazy, but what we hear in the blacked-out sex scenes that include Thanatos largely consists of what can be described as awkwardly serious chuckling, perhaps with a crack of Megaera's whip.
A few days later, Zaptech
removed this example, with the edit reason "Pretty sure that this is intentionally humorous.". Then, a few days after that, _____________ added it back, with the edit reason, "Well, I find it unintentionally humorous.".
I decided to bring this here because, besides it officially being an Edit War, this seems to being something that _____________ has done before (ie. add a YMMV example based more on his own opinions than the general opinion of the fans), as a comment on this post
for Demon's Souls brought up him doing this with an example for Anti-Climax Boss
opentherealryan on the Tales Narm page Videogame
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=Narm.TalesSeries
So a user called therealryan has been deleting entries claiming they're "annoying" and repeatedly adding an entry to the Arise folder saying "From this game on, this has little to no Narm or Narm Charm." It's been deleted and re-added a lot and I get the feeling he's simply just contesting entries and opinions and the like.
openOnce again, a non-existant work wonk Videogame
I initially brought this up in the Complaining thread, but upon further investigation of the culprit's edit history, it was deemed mod attention may be warrented.
Galdodon 99 made some weird edits to YMMV.Paper Mario The Origami King earlier today.
- “Paper Mario: The Origami Nazi”. Explanation King Olly’s plan for getting rid of all the Paper Toads involves him wishing via the 1,000 Crane Technique that all the Paper Toads go away forever since they share the same face and are poisoning his “perfect world” similar to Adolf Hitler.
And
- Pandering to the Base: While many critics and fans alike praise the game for being a Surprisingly Improved Sequel to its predecessors, a few such as the Villain Army and its Supreme Leader, accuse it of pandering to the people who hated Paper Bowser and his Koopa Troop by having King Olly be the main villain throughout the entire game, while Paper Bowser doesn’t steal back the spotlight from him, though it could just be shock over the eradication of the Paper Toads via the 1,000 Crane Technique. Hell, a review of the game
even said this while bashing the game for holding back Nintendo's development of Mario And Luigi Paper Jam 2, despite its 8.5 review rating.
I expanded the spoiler in the second part myself, but aside from their carelessness or lack of respect for spoiling, other red flags include the memetic mutation being a triple bullet point, and frankly I've never seen that meme around as a meme at least in the relatively decent portions of the internet, and the pothole to a Darth Wiki work and reference to a game that has at no point even been hinted to being planned in the Pandering to the Base.
They also added a justifying edit to another entry, I'll just remove that myself when I'm not on mobile.
After making that initial post, it was observed that they had made edits pertaining to the Villain Army, an unpublished work on Darth Wiki, and Paper Jam 2, which as of yet has not even been teased by any development staff, on other pages as well. This whole thing feels like another episode of the Tropers Obsessed with Works that Don't Exist show.
openCleaning up call of duty modern warfare 2019 Videogame
Okay so uh thanks to you know recent events in Ukraine. Alot of the entries in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (2019) now come off as rather cringey decrying how the Russian military are depicted here.
It's weird but a lott if it has aged badly.
We have entries commenting on how the Big Bad is correct in his aims because because some of the people he abuses are actually terrorists (unintentionallySymphatetic) or a Demonization which uh if you've been checking events their is now awful with hindsight.
- Demonization: Russians in Modern Warfare are evil, weak, cowardly, and stupid.
- The Russian military is portrayed as monsters who commit Obligatory War Crime after Obligatory War Crime. Evil Russians beating innocent civilians begging for mercy. Evil Russians forcing civilians to watch the public executions of their neighbors. Evil Russians executing unarmed and surrendering civilians en masse. Evil Russians attacking children with intent to kill. Evil Russians nonchalantly executing wounded civilians. Evil Russians torturing helpless and innocent prisoners. Even Nikolai, the one Russian character allied with the protagonists, shows no qualms in kidnapping an innocent woman and child so the protagonists can threaten to execute them in order to psychologically torture the child's father.
- The Russian participation in the conflict in Urzikstan is never shown with an ounce more nuance than "Evil invading Russians are massacring innocent Arabs for no other reason than insane paranoia or outright sadism." Despite the conflict being explicitly called a Civil War, not once do we ever see any actual 'Urzikstanic' natives fighting alongside or cooperating with the Russians. Additionally, the Russians are producing the chemical weapons which are the basis of the plot, which is portrayed as an act of irredeemable evil that automatically qualifies the perpetrator as a terrorist.
- Additionally, Russians are not only shown to be pure evil, but absurdly incompetent. The only successes the Russians have in the story are against completely helpless civilians and children. This is seen most strikingly on a mission where the Russian military is defeated by a group of starving, abused teenage girls with zero combat training. We see this again at the end: in most Call of Duty games the campaign ends with a climatic struggle against an antagonist who is usually able to put up a fight and often expresses some reluctant respect for the protagonist. In Modern Warfare, Farah sneaks up behind the evil Russian general, stabs him, he grabs her and struggles with her a bit, she grabs the knife and stabs him some more while he begs and pleads for his life.

I changed the laconic for Bioshock 2, it was changed back and I thought I just forgot to publish the edit so I changed it again. The laconic thread told me that mine was a better description of the game. It was changed back a few days ago. openYMMV Entry Restoration Videogame
The 2017 video game Mass Effect: Andromeda features a character that is supposed to be a powerful, violent, intimidating female warlord from a Proud Warrior Race. The voice of the character in question sounds like, to be blunt, a very stereotypically effeminate gay male, to the point where it sounds like a parody. Think Family Guy cutaway portrayal of a gay male, except it's supposed to be taken seriously. It's legitimately not very clear that this character is supposed to even be a female. Because of this and the character fighting in an extremely poorly animated and choreographed scene, this character has been overwhelmingly ridiculed and mocked by players and fans.
It turns out the person who provided the voice recordings for this character is transgender. DGCatAniSiri removed a Narm entry from the YMMV page, claiming that such an entry is transphobic. There was no mention of transgenderism in the entry.
I've sent a message to DGCatAniSiri explaining that even if this claim had any weight, it's irrelevant. Explaining that YMMV entries don't become valid or invalid based upon whether the fan reaction was "right," and that they are perfectly free to disagree. After weeks, a follow up message, and more weeks, they still haven't responded, despite being active.
May I restore this entry?
Edited by HeartOfStoneopenContested mass edits on Characters/LimbusCompany Videogame
Ok. So I'll get this problem straight. The wording I used for my previous help post isn't all that good.
I tried to edit Dante's entry from Limbus Company with something that is explicitly All There in the Manual (specifically, the character's true identity, which is heavily implied but not flat-out stated), but I faced very heavy resistance from another user that I'm just adding "baseless speculation" and "Wild Mass Guessing", so I reverted my own edits just to be safe.
For all I know, they are not. (These
are
the Japanese fanslations of the source material.)
What should I do in this case? The thing I want to edit in is All There in the Manual (leaving it out results in lots of misinfo), but at the same time I do NOT want to risk an edit war. I just need help resolving this conflict.
Edited by Mr-ex777openBioWare creator's subpage split Videogame
Already pointed out in the other thread
, but I'm posting this for more opinions. This creator page has a lot of subpages for some reason and things like FranchiseOriginalSin.Bio Ware and Narm.Bioware exist here instead of doing that in its actual work pages.
This is highly discouraged by Administrivia.Creator Page Guidelines when the works have pages (and yeah, Bioware games all have pages) and it makes navigation unnecessarily difficult because you have to travel between creator and work pages. So, I want to put them back to the works. Thoughts?
openPossible edit war? Videogame
Back in August, I removed
a set of Narm examples from The Last of Us Part II after the cleanup thread
reached consensus (my edit reason explained this). In April, Yukianesa added two of the examples back.
The wording is pretty different, and the removed examples were originally added by two different users (EnigmaLobo added the Mel example,
and Connor2107
added the nickname one). This seems unintentional, and if I remember correctly, doesn't count as an edit war.
My question: if consensus is reached and then breached, is it acceptable to remove the offending examples unilaterally, or is that an edit war?

Question about Nightmare Retardant: Does it have to be something goofy, or can it be something a bit more meta?
Specifically, in a certain game, there are jump scares every few steps. However, the game emphasizes drawing your map on the second screen, which results in the jump scares A: being predictable and B: being less visible, since many players are navigating by looking at the other screen.
Would that count? It's definitely unconventional, not being a Special Effect Failure or Narm, but it definitely decreased the tension in the situation.
