openJust Known Film
On YMMV.Ghost In The Shell 2017, I moved the example for Narm from between One-Scene Wonder and Overshadowed by Controversy to between Memetic Mutation and Nightmare Fuel, so that it would be in alphabetical order.
I also deleted the example for Race Lift, since Race Lift isn't a YMMV item.
JustKnown
has undone
both changes.
opendeusexadamjensen 121 Film
As far as I'm aware Funny Moments pages are allowed to contain both intentional and unintentional moments to be added, but on the page for Alien: Covenant deusexadamjensen 121
had been deleted examples of the latter and insulting the people who added them both in their edit reasons and on the discussion page
.
openThe page for the funny moments in the Funny/TheRoom should be changed to Narm Film
The Room is trying to be a drama so most of the humor is unintentional. I think changing it to Narm: The Room might be more better.
openEdit War Film
Looks like the beginnings of an edit war are going on
Man of Steel. Absolute Sword
added an example under Narm, Master Hero
deleted the example, Absolute Sword has re-added it.
openValid or no? ''Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom'' Spoilers. Film
I added to the YMMV page for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom regarding Narm, only for troper TantaMonty
to remove them.
- The scene where Mills tells the heroes that Maisie is actually a clone comes right out of no where, with Mills having little reason to tell them. The sheer jarring way it is revealed is much funnier than it should be, since it was clearly meant to be a Shocking Swerve, but didn't quite land the mark.
- The film graces us with perhaps the silliest death in the entire series: Mills killing Lockwood by suffocating him with a pillow. The hilarity of such a thing in a movie filled with killer Dinosaurs is much funnier than the film probably realized.
Their reason as: The mere fact Lockwood was killed by something that was not a dinosaur is not funny at all, as he was just a feeble old man murdered by one of the most despicable characters in the movie. Also, Eli did have a reason to reveal Maisie's origins, in his own twisted mind he thought that Owen and Claire would stop caring for the young girl if they find out she was the result of unethical genetic practices..
Are these valid examples? The first one is valid if you ask me since how the scene is framed just has the reveal happen as if telling the audience, and the reason they removed it is just using headcanon for why since there isn't a reason for it. Plus, unless the trope is a misuse, opinions are still valid as far as I am aware.
Plus it seems like the troper might be semi policing the movies pages, which can be a problem going forward. Also I should add I don't mind if these are seen as bad examples, just wanted to make sure.
Edited by keyblade333open(Minor) Edit War - Captain Marvel (2019) Narm Film
This entry keeps getting taken out, then put back in by ajbit26 (Let me know if I'm not supposed to name them):
- Brie Larson's complete lack of a facial expression in much of the trailer has led to some rather unflattering comparisons to Bella Swan.
It's a misuse of narm, I'm pretty sure. And it's just unnecessary complaining. Thoughts?
openOverly protective of the DCEU. Film
Somewhat preemptive, but Deeed is being way protective of the DCEU and edit-warring to do so.
The worst example so far is on IdiotPlot.Live Action Film, where they pulled an entry without an edit reason. A discussion post was made by someone else asking for an explanation, and then it was restored after I pointed out that it was deleted without explanation (which, you know, is vandalism). They did then participate in the discussion... after re-deleting the movie, and rather than give an explanation, they linked a bunch of youtube links and said "no, it's totally explained." So they are using the discussion... but upon further thought, that might be worse since they're ignoring it.
Also unacceptable:
- Deleting link to a narm subpage
- Again, deleting an entire movie without explanation
. When it was restored, they then neutered an example into what's at best a ZCE, despite being near-universally considered laughable.
Now again, this is preemptive as though he's edit-warring, he's at least checking discussion pages and responding, even though his responses are unsatisfactory.
Edited by LarkmarnopenWhat to do with Film.Hellboy Film
Film.Hellboy previously covered both Hellboy (2004) and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. I split those into separate articles earlier today, and I was just wondering what I should do with the original page.
Cut List it? Make it a redirect for Film.Hellboy 2004 or Franchise.Hellboy?
Edited by PrimisopenNarm cleanup? Film
Does anyone know if there's there a Narm cleanup thread? I've often seen whiny examples, but Narm.Star Wars really takes the cake (and eats it, and comes back for more).
openFridge and Headscratchers from Hellboy: The Golden Army Film
The Headscratchers and the Fridge pages from Hellboy II: The Golden Army are identical, with the only exception that Headscratchers is more clearly-written. Wouldn't it be better to cut one of them (I'd say the Fridge page indeed)?
openFed up with negativity Film
The Narm.Star Wars, IdiotPlot.Star Wars, and WhatAnIdiot.Star Wars are filled with negativity. That's old news. The problem is that every time someone tries to clean them up, people always add the complaints right back.
I'm making this querry to gather opinions on whether I should ask for a lock on these three pages in order to clean them up. Knowing the SW fanbase, the lock will most likely have to be permanent.
Could I get hear people's thoughts on this motion?
openFranchiseOriginalSin.StarWars Film
I want to start this by saying that locking or cutting a page should be used for worst-case-scenario pages only.
I've been trying to fix up FranchiseOriginalSin.Star Wars, and I've found that the page has many, many issues regarding the examples listed. It, of course, suffers from Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, as most Star Wars Audience Reaction pages end up like. Now, this in itself is a pretty fixable situation, because it's very similar to Narm.Star Wars, which we successfully cleaned out. Yes, it took months, but it was a satisfying conclusion.
But the Narm page was different, because that had 1-3 sentence examples that resulted in a simple cleanup objective of "remove misuse". It was very simple to fix the page. But with this page? No, my objective was to shorten the examples instead of cutting them. But the more I go into the page, the more I realize that nearly every example is a violation of Complaining About Shows You Don't Like, and it's frustrating. Just like Example Indentation or Zero-Context Examples, complaining is a fair reason to remove a bad example.
So here's the "Ask" part: What should be done with the page? If it's undeniably hard to fix, and just about every example is a heavy violation of policy, what can be done to help? I was thinking of maybe locking it, but it sounds too obstructive. Cutting is also an option if the cleanup proves unmanageable, but it's barely on the table.
So, what does the rest of the wiki think about the page?
openNarm misuse on DC Extended universe Film
So I found this in DC Extended Universe
The way the movie’s Broken Aesop comes about. Diana spends the entire movie convinced that Ludendorff is really Ares and, if she kills him, the war will automatically end. At the end, she kills him only to find out he isn’t Ares and Humans Are Bastards that don’t need to be swayed by a mystical god of war to try to kill each other. Except no, Diana just had the wrong guy and, yes, Ares really did influence and aggravate the war (even if he claims he didn't outright cause it). And once he's dead, the war’s over. Now strictly this is due to an armistice taking effect just when Ares dies, but the way it's framed, it looks like the enemy soldiers come out of a trance because Ares died and they even start hugging Diana's allies. The way the movie so deftly undoes the previous two hours of build-up is a thing to behold.
Umm...but the point is that Ares might have swayed them into doing it but it was still their idea to actually make the decision which he does by playing on their prejudices that are already their Also this is written really weirdly.
openQuestionable YMMV Wording Film
YMMV.Jason And The Argonauts has some complainy entries for Narm and Took the Bad Film Seriously. I don't know if it's accurate or not, but should they be commented out or removed (haven't seen the movie so I can't reword them)?
openNew image for Kid with the Golden Arm Film
So I've been doing alot of work for The Kid with the Golden Arm, and I noticed that the image is basically just that of Hai Tao fighting Golden Arm.
I propose replacing that page image, with this one shown on the left side of the page:
https://cityonfire.com/kid-with-the-golden-arm-1979/
I already have a PNG version of this ready to go; I just need to know where to go to find a consensus to be able to do this replacement.
Edited by Stardust5099openEdit War Film
Rice Romp
added the following to Narm.Spider Man Trilogy on March 17th:
I removed it as it was deemed not to be an example by the Narm clean-up thread
Today he added this to the page which, is more or less the same example but with slightly different wording:
openNarm & Bathos Film
I've got a problem figuring out which one to use. I know what those tropes are and what they do, so it's not the problem with definition - is to figure out which one "fits". But first, a bit of explaination.
Spoor, a movie I've just finished, has a Hysterical Woman as the main character and she has few very, very grating rants throughout the film. It's not only annoying in-universe, but it's just hard to watch her increasingly inane ranting, too. The character, due to such behaviour being her norm, is considered to be the "typical crazy grandma" in-universe... only that in the finale it is revealed it was for the most part (she's still insane) a play and deliberate mislead, both in- and out-of-universe: in reality, her rants were done as a cover-up for the fact she's a murderous lunatic and misdirect the people around her. Lucid enough to perform elaborate murders, yet still very insane Eco-Terrorist, living in her own imaginary world.
So with that covered, I'm thinking if the scenes with her ranting fall under Narm or Bathos. Prior to the reveal, it's just extremely narmalicious (and even after it's still eye-rolling), but with the reveal, the ranting was in fact deliberate and intentional, so the initial reaction it generates from audience can't fall under the definition of narm... but does it qualify under Bathos, given it's not exactly comedic?
I guess I'm explaining it poorly, but it's one of those situations that's not exactly about fitting pegs to the right holes.
openWeird wording on a work page (and YMMV page) Film
I found a weird sentence with weird wording on from Furie and its YMMV page. Here are some examples (spoiler warning):
- Fourth Wall Farewell: The film ends with Hai Phuong agreeing to teach her daughter martial arts. She closes out by telling the daughter some of the tenets that she had to internalize during her own training, and her head snaps to the camera when delivering the final line of the movie.
- Narm: The film ends with Hai Phuong promising to teach Mai martial arts. Hai Phuong begins telling Mai some of the lessons that she learned during her own training while they're resting in a hospital bed. So far, a fairly touching moment between mother and daughter. It only gets laughable when she snaps her head to the camera in order to deliver the final line of the film in a moment so out of place and jarring that it's hilarious.
What do they mean by snaps their head to the camera? I never heard that sentence. Does this make sense or not?
Edited by Bubblepig

I removed Hypocrite edits to Finn and Rey in https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/StarWarsTheResistance
for being in accurate.
The tropes where :
Argued that not a hypocrite. Because she did not refuse the call with Han , she turned down a job offer that is a different thing. Also it was stated she refused the call but called Finn a traitor when he did the same. One ) she did not call him a traitor , she asked him not to leave her. Not ask him not to refuse his calling . Two ) She refused the call AFTER he left, also she refused the call after he left. So her refusing the call and criticizing him for doing the same in inaccurate, both in timeline and also the fact she did not call him out for refusing his destiny only asked him not to leave her.
As for Finn
One) He swore never to fight for the first order not to fight against them. two ) it was never shown he was targeting the deck officers also dozens did not die in the escape attempt three) no indication of him gleefully killing fellow comrades. I was also pointed out that no indication of camraderie in the First Order, only order. So Finn was fighting against people trying to kill him and others not fellow comrades.
Werebazs reinstated the edits , and put it to discussion. Claimed that Rey and Finn where hypocrites for not practicing what they preached. When pointed out that cannon materials stated that Finn was not dealing with fellow comrades but former fanatacial soldierrs Werebazs stated he was going by what was on screen.
Nothing on screen indicates a camradire or friendship or comradship between soildiers. Also nothing indicating that Finn or Rey where preaching pacifisim or Rey was preaching accepting the call. There has been no follow up on https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/remarks.php?trope=Characters.StarWarsTheResistance&id=107421#107421
and I was wondering considering the trope is not valid based on the justifications. Should I remove it or take other action.
