resolved Troper with character wonks Anime
cotton-cloud22 appears to have this wonk regarding Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba of defending Zenitsu and bashing Obanai.
- Added a Draco in Leather Pants entry
for Obanai that, while not in itself wrong, used all caps to call him “WORSE” than Zenitsu AND a Misaimed Fandom entry complaining about the fandom not realizing Obanai is worse than Zenitsu. I have since moved the entry to Ron the Death Eater to focus more on Zenitsu’s demonization in the fandom and removed mentions of Obanai.
- This Unintentionally Unsympathetic entry on Obanai
isn’t too bad in isolation, but worth mentioning for their wonk against him and how it seems to take his gags too seriously.
- Speaking of taking gags too seriously, after I removed a Karmic Overkill entry for Yoshiteru (Zenitsu’s descendant) that bashed how Obanai’s reincarnation treated him since I felt it was misuse as a gag moment, they re-added it
.
- Complainy ship-to-ship combat entries
(I’ve since reworded them to sound more neutral).
- All their edits on the Fandom-Enraging misconception
subpage feel less like straightforward examples and more of rants against people who dislike Zenitsu. Also includes another all caps claiming Obanai is “WORSE” regarding jealousy which just feels like a shoehorn. (On a side note I think the Fandom-Enraging Misconception subpage for Demon Slayer as a whole needs a clean-up, it’s pretty messy).

openPossible misuse Anime
Here's a The Complainer Is Always Wrong entry regarding Code Geass:
- Between himself and his best friend Suzaku and dear sister Nunnally, it sure feels like this for Lelouch of Code Geass. Taken to even greater heights in Turn 19 of R2 during Schneizel's meeting with the Black Knights; first with Tamaki and Diethard, who contend that anyone could have faked the recording, and after everyone has made up their minds, Kallen, who in an attempt to protect Zero from his would-be traitors, calls her fellow comrades out on being too one-sided, only to be warned to get out of the way or be shot down on suspicion of being geassed. Lelouch ends up lying to her in order for her life to be spared. The following episode, Diethard's earlier attempt to rein in an AWOL Ohgi by holding Villetta, the one responsible, captive, ended up with him getting a few bruises, and complaining to himself that Ohgi, who remains on the Black Knights and is now joined by Villetta, is miscast as a leader.
- The third Compilation Movie's take on these events have Ohgi fall under this when he wants to give Zero a chance to explain himself and tell the truth, and objects to Schneizel's men preparing to shoot until they actually have their answers. He and Viletta also have a point with Deithard considering he really was doing a couple of stuff behind their backs, including how in this version, he was the one who shot her and caused her amnesia that led to them meeting in the first place.
The first line is a Zero-Context Example as it doesn't explain how Lelouch falls under this, and the Black Knights who objected to the betrayal were actually in the right and made better points (and it was several of them objecting, not just one person) so it doesn't seem the narrative is portraying them as wrong for doing so. I'm not sure if it counts overall but I think it at least needs to be re-worded.
Edited by Javertshark13openBastard!! - page name question Anime
I noticed that the page for Bastard 1988 specifies the year in the work name, but the page itself also covers the 2022 adaptation, and the page image is from the 2022 adaptation as well.
I would suggest the 1988 be dropped from the page name — I think just "Bastard!!" is more appropriate, if the page is going to cover multiple iterations of the work — but I am not familiar with it at all (was browsing randomly), so I don't think I should make that decision.
I don't know if that would mean the WikiWord should change as well, which is a larger project.
Again, since I'm not familiar with the work, if people don't think it's an issue, no worries. If there are any changes that don't require having read or seen it, I'm happy to make them.
Edited by DiggerMresolved Does YMMV have a different standard for natter than Main? Anime
Hi,
This edit
for YMMV.The 100 Girlfriends Who Really Really Really Really Really Love You strikes me as natter. I was looking to edit the paragraph so that it doesn't look like the wiki arguing with itself, but before I do, I wanted to check whether YMMV has a different (lower?) standard for natter than Main.
My reasoning is given that the opinions expressed in YMMV tend to be subjective, does that mean that it's acceptable for Tropers to respond/debate under an entry?
openWould the 'LGBT Fanbase' trope go into multiple entries of a franchise without a general YMMV? Anime
Wondering about adding a specific entry for the trope for the YMMV of Magia Record, one of the Madoka spinoffs. Now Madoka itself has a entry for the original anime under the trope, but the YMMV page is for the original anime, not the franchise as a wide, while Record has quite a few specific examples to it. Would there be any issue in adding a specific entry for Record's YMMV about LGBT Fanbase?

openTrying to add an Incredibles/MHA crossover page Anime
Hello, I think this fanfiction is worthy of having its own page:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13466524/1/My-Incredible-Academia
as well as being mentioned in fanfic recs/fan works for both MHA and Incredibles in the crossover section but I'm not sure how to do it myself. Even though I go on Tv Tropes a lot I have only recently made my own account so still getting to grips with it. I could do with some help please.
openQuestion about an edit Anime
About seven years ago the troper Seguir made a sweeping edit
to the Tearjerker page
for Death Note, removing a number of entries with the edit reason saying "removing apologism for murderers and melodrama" with no further explanation given. I don't see how a lot of the removed entries (such as Hatori's death or Light's amnesiac self screaming when he regains his memories) fit this description so I'm wondering if anyone feels they should be restored.
resolved Plot Hole page for Ranma 1/2? Anime
I love Ranma ½, but the series was clearly an episodic comedy that Takahashi was making it up as she goes along, and it shows, because there's quite a few times when the story doesn't make sense or contradicts itself - three major examples are how Ranma is perfectly happy to go back to China in the first 2 chapters, but Shampoo's intro reveals he left China partially to escape Shampoo; how Ranma goes from wanting to investigate potential cures in those same chapters, only for everybody to know that the Nanniichuan can cure Ranma and the other guys like him in the Instant Nanniichuan story; and of course the Instant Nanniichuan temporarily curing Ranma and Genma, but Taro being able to upgrade his curse with water from the Jusenkyo Spring of Drowned Octopus.
But... the Plot Hole page notes that it's a No Examples trope. Does that just mean no adding examples to that page, or does it mean that a Plot Hole page for Ranma 1/2 is forbidden as well?
resolved Am I Being Too Uptight About This? Anime
This question involves the final episode of one of those rather important older anime series, so if you're interested in Revolutionary Girl Utena and haven't seen it, this spoiler warning is for you.
Here's my question:
"Revolutionary Girl Utena E 39 Someday We Will Shine Together", has an example of Screw This, I'm Outta Here!. At two points in 2024 I deleted one of its two bullets on the basis that the event in question does not meet the trope's "unplanned departure" criteria (the character who leaves pays a visit to another character to say that she's leaving, and is then shown walking away with a suitcase). Now that I think about it, it's a better fit for Won't Do Your Dirty Work.
Recently another editor added this event under Screw This, I'm Outta Here! again. I don't want to be a wonk about this and I'm already uncomfortable with having deleted it twice. The event in question is a key moment in the story and as such, editors like to mention it in as many examples as possible. So if I delete it again the odds are good that someone else will add it back before long.
Am I interpreting this trope too strictly? I've been treating "unplanned" as something along the lines of "spontaneous"—maybe I'm setting the bar too high?
Or maybe I'm second guessing myself too much and what I need is a commented out message to discourage people from adding this to Screw This, I'm Outta Here!?
Edited by ShivaIndisopenEdit War on Azumanga Shitposts Anime
Reporting a belatedly-realized Edit War scenario:
- Troper.Stop Hating Tv Tropes Plz 123 adds the following Condemned by History entry
to YMMV.Azumanga Daioh, subsequently tweaking the format over successive edits
- Troper.UFO Yeah deletes
the entry, citing poor formatting and complaining
- StopHatingTvTropesPlz123 re-adds
the entry, including a confusing question about YMMV.Fate Stay Night and YMMV.Oreimo's CBH entries
- After StopHating's entry is brought to attention of Condemned by History cleanup thread
, it is again deleted by myself
(not having seen the history proving this was an Edit War yet)
I apologize for unknowingly engaging in an Edit War, but what should become of StopHating's entry? And should we keep watch in case they decide to add it again?
Edited by Galileo26openRegarding Spoiler Policy for characters in Naruto Anime
Regarding Characters.Naruto, while checking for example, Pain's page, it shows in the description itself a lot about his past and motivations which are revealed quite late into the arc having his decisive fight, and in Madara's folder, in his description, the exact specifics of his defeat are written in great detail.
These are just two examples out of many, and in the folders, there are marked and unmarked spoilers with irregularity. Now, Naruto is an old anime, so I wanted to ask whether to remove the excruciating details in the description and spoiler out the spoilery details, or just leave them alone?
Edited by kuchiki222openEdit war on Ranma Saotome Anime
Okay, I didn't want to ring the alarm prematurely, but lately the page Characters.Ranma One Half Ranma Saotome is veering into an edit war between Midnight Star Hunter and Valentine Meikin, with some peanut gallery comments by Wandering Browser. (Myself, I'm only doing the occasional grammar edit on the page.)
The latest edit by Midnight Star Hunter includes an absolute Wall of Text of an edit reason accompanying an absolutely bloated trope entry; please check it out. I think that everybody needs to cool down and discuss it out before any further addition or removal.
openEdit Reason: "Removing the excessive content"? Anime
I know Word Cruft is a reason for editing down an entry, but is it actually applicable in this case?
On November 4th
, I/Rebel Falcon, edited the entry for the trope "Because You Were Nice to Me" for the character Kyoka Jiro on My Hero Academia - Class 1-A (11-20) to provide further context, and I didn't think the entry was that long or required any Word Cruft.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: Jiro initially didn't have much of a connection with Midoriya throughout the school year. During the preparation for the Culture Festival however, she approached him for aid in neatening up her notes on music, initially embarrassed at needing to ask but finding herself pleasantly surprised the more they worked together, slowly transitioning into the two becoming genuine friends. She brings up this moment specifically when all of Class 1-A come to bring him back to U.A. High after he had left due to becoming a target for Shigaraki due to his possession of One For All, telling him how happy she was to find they shared a hobby in note taking and, that while he has gotten stronger, she doesn't want her friend having to suffer for their sake.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: During Class 1-A's fight against Midoriya, when they try to bring him to back U.A. High, Jiro brings up to him how they bonded over their shared habit of making notes to improve their works (for Izuku, it's his combat skills, for Jiro, it's her musical skills) and how he helped her prepare for the School Festival as a way to convince him to return, even if she know it's only a minor moment.
EDIT: I am not trying to get anyone in trouble, this is just me trying to clear up some genuine confusion on my end. Edited by RebelFalcon
resolved Agenda Based Editing on pages for Code Geass. Anime
Reddish Guy 1 is once again
conducting agenda based editing
for Code Geass, depicting the Britannian Characters as if they were solely black in terms of morality and changing things to reflect that including removing sympathetic tropes from several characters, while adding YMMV entries suggesting opinion for Noble Demon characters being unsympathetic is widespread despite there be little indication of this outside of the Base-Breaking Character Cornelia. What's more, they attempt to justify this by claiming this site thinks the series is Black-and-Gray Morality, but if the series itself is said to be Grey-and-Gray Morality, then that is what is supposed to be troped, with the idea its not that falling under Unintentionally tropes and Misaimed Fandom. And yes, it is meant to be seen as Grey-and-Gray Morality since the showrunners and even the actors have said as much, with them going on record as stating Cornelia and Suzaku are two of the most moral characters in the show, and they consider Lelouch to be irredeemable. For objective troping, authorial intent is important to note. Whether it worked or not would be covered in YMMV. I've sent them a notifier directing them to this thread, but this needs to be addressed as this is the second time now this situation has needed to be brought up to ATT.
resolved What do I go to change the title of a work page? Anime
I'm considering of changing the main title of "Literature.Bakemonogatari" to "Literature.MonogatariSeries" since Bakemonogatari is only the title for the first arc/season of the series (and the series itself is a bit of a Long Runner with multiple different names for each arc/season and Bakemonogatari is only one of them). It makes more sense for the main title to be the Monogatari Series instead.
However, I'm not exactly sure where I can propose to change the main title. How do I do this?
Edited by RuckusHeartsopenDoes this page need a cleanup? (HeartwarmingInHindsight) Anime
The bottom of the page has this note:
IMPORTANT: Do not include examples that are Foreshadowing, nor moments that came just a handful of episodes later. Those are clearly intended heartwarming moments later in the same work.
However, some users have bluntly disregarded this, the vast majority of the anime folder examples consist of stuff that is obviously foreshadowed.
Should it all be removed? I mean, disregarding the entries about voice actors, the blind photographer and the ones relating to Real Life people. I wanted to manually remove it myself but I fear it would start an edit war.
resolved Is this allowed? Anime
A while ago I made this query
concerning an entry regarding Awesome Music. When I mentioned it in the "Get Help With English Here" thread, someone pointed out
that this user is self-inserting their own opinions (except for the commas, that were a necessary addition). They also removed the %% notice I added about ZC Es and grammar.

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ColdTouchSurprise
Someone added a video to Cold Touch Surprise. Now, the video fits the trope well, as far as I'm concerned. However, whoever added it didn't do an example write up for the series it depicts, and I myself am not familiar enough with the work to be sure I get all the respective details correct.
Would anyone familiar with the series please add the write up and crosswick it?
