resolved Spotted a non-YMMV trope in YMMV section in Project Zomboid
Okay, I just found this on the YMMV page of Project Zomboid:
- Do Not Go Gentle: A common outcome if one discovers a bite or begins suffering signs of the Knox infection.
Checked this on the YMMV home page and the trope page itself. Both don't have them listed on each another.
What to do with this?
open What trope does this fit ? Film
So I recently learned that the actor dog that played John Wick's dog Daisy, then named Andy, is now called Wick after the man himself. So now I'm left wondering if there's any Trivia or Main trope this example belongs to ? Can you guys help me out ?
resolved Linking a fanfic that has its own page on fanfic recs
I was browsing FanficRecs. The Legend Of Heroes Trails Of Cold Steel’s history where user Alciel 9 linked the page to one recs (Fanfic.Isekaid To A Jrpg As A Harem Member) which has its own page here. This got me wondering; if one the fanfic manage to get its own page, do we link the page or the work itself?
resolved Is there an Administrivia about "see above" and "see below"
I'm noticing quite a bit on Tv Tropes examples saying "see above" rather than explaining something for itself. Is there an Administrivia about how examples like this should be handled? Should they be edited to actually clarify rather than assume one would scroll "above" or "below"?
openWhy is the Adult Hater trope under the Jerk index?
I mean I noticed that most Adult Hater characters listed under that trope hate adults for sympathetic reasons. I mean sometimes Adults Are Useless and fail to protect children from harm.
As an adult myself, I noticed that a lot of adults aren’t even good people (& I find other adults insufferable and toxic) so IDK why that trope is under the Jerk Index.
EDIT: I only came on here because I didn’t want to remove the trope from the index without a discussion.
Edited by MsCC22resolved question on "Up For Grabs" TLP
If a draft is Up For Grabs, and you want to contribute an example without adopting the draft, should you still respect not editing the draft directly yourself to add the example to it? Is the expectation the person who eventually adopts the draft will go through all the past comments to update the draft?
basically, does editing courtesy change at all if a draft is "Up For Grabs"?
Edited by IronAnimationopenBad one-off edit Live Action TV
Tropers.imajakov's first and so far only edit, from about a month ago, was to add an entry to Series.House for the nonexistent trope "Genius Level Intellect." The entry itself didn't have any grammar issues and did accurately describe the show and title character, but, well... that isn't a real trope. They also wrote it out un-wikiworded as "Genius Level intellect" (complete with capitalization error)
Edited by Dirtyblue929openFake Memories? Won't Work or Handwave?
My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic S3 E13 "Magical Mystery Cure"
- Fake Memories: The destiny switch results in the ponies with switched destinies getting false memories to go with them that dissuade them from questioning why they are so bad at their 'destiny'. The problem is they didn't receive the skills to go along with the memories. Exactly how extensive their memory alterations were is not explored.
This seem explicitly contradicted by the episode as when Spike asks about using the memory spell to restore them Twilight states "It's not their memories, Spike. It's their true selves that have been altered!"
So due Fake Memories not apply if so directly contradicted? Still apply if it doesn't explain how this is different/more extensive than memory alteration? Or is Ambiguous Situation more fitting as it doesn't clearly explain how this worked?
And would Twilight's statement be Simple Solution Won't Work (an intended as legitimate explanation why not) or Hand Wave (a flimsy explanation self-aware about such), or is it/can it be both? I assume the former because it lack the attempt to deflect/dodge the issue.
resolved What do we do about this?
But We Used a Condom! uses the words "people with uteruses" to refer to women. Presumably, whoever wrote this was trying to avoid causing offence by excluding "people with uteruses" who don't identify as female, but there are those who think this kind of language is in itself offensive. They feel describing people solely in terms of what reproductive organs they have is dehumanising and smacks of Political Over Correctness.
Don't get me wrong. I'm aware that some people don't identify as whichever gender they were assigned at birth and I've nothing against such people. But words like "men" and "women" are used elsewhere on the wiki, so I was wondering what should be done in the case of this particular article and any other articles where such "inclusionary language" has been used. Specifically, is it OK to change "people with uteruses" to "women" or at least "people assigned female at birth"? Or should the sentence where "people with uteruses" appears be rewritten from scratch?
resolved Suì-Fēng or Soi Fon? Anime
The Bleach series is no stranger to the official localization changing over time, such as the Soul Reapers' swords variously being called "Soul Cutters", "Zanpak-to", and "Zanpakutou" over the years; or Ichigo's Getsuga Tenshō being variously spelled with or without a space.
According to the official Masked and UnMasked artbooks, written by Tite Kubo himself, the Captain of Squad 2's name is supposed to be the Chinese "Suì-Fēng", which is pronounced "Soifon" in Japanese. However, VIZ Media's English localization has phonetically transcribed her name as "Soi Fon" and continues to do so even in media released after the artbooks came out — such as Bleach: Brave Souls and the Bleach: The Thousand Year Blood War Arc. However, the TV Tropes pages all refer to her as Suì-Fēng.
What seems to be the case is that the Bleach wiki has prioritized Kubo's spellings (or ones that make sense in the language the different groups use) above VIZ's official English localizations — hence them using diacritics, and spelling "Visored" instead of "Vizard" and "Vollständig" instead of "Vollsterndich" or "Voll Stern Dich"; and the Bleach TV Tropes pages seem to — intentionally or not — have followed suit. But IIRC TV Tropes' policy is to prioritize the official English localization above all others, even if it turns out that localization is incorrect — as in the case of Berserk's Band of the Hawk being properly named "Band of the Falcon" but the English localization continuing to use the incorrect translation, with TV Tropes following suit.
What should be done in this case?
open Is this a valid example of UU?
LL Smooth J added this to Manga-Waido.
Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Leo
I discussed with a friend on Discord and he thinks that Leo's actions are the result of his abusive family and he didn't have his grandparents to rely on.
So what to do with this example?

openEntry removed without edit reason on Arthur recap page: okay to restore or not? Western Animation
On Arthur S1 E18 - "Arthur's Chicken Pox" / "Sick as a Dog", this entry was deleted without an edit reason
a while ago by the now perma-suspended
troper TV Lubber:
- Kick the Dog: D.W. almost literally does this when she tells Arthur "We can get a good dog now" when Pal gets sick. She may be only four years old, but that's a rather insensitive remark to make about someone's pet, especially under those circumstances.
The reason I'm asking if this is okay to add back is not only because adding it back without consensus would be an Edit War, but the entry is also negative towards D.W., a character I've been previously been suspended for writing bashy entries about, so I'm worried that re-adding it without consensus from other tropers may be seen as me relapsing in my D.W.-bashing ways and earn me a second suspension. You can see the scene for yourself in this video
starting at 0:05, so you can make an accurate judgement based on the context.
openPossibly-imminent Edit War in YMMV/LimbusCompany Videogame
Happening in Limbus Company
Edit by me
, on the Good Bad Bugs entry, i changed it from:
- When part 3 of Canto IV came out, there was a bug where Sloth and Wrath Power Up, instead of increasing the respective sin's power by 1 per stack, would increase their damage by 100% per stack instead. This, particularly combined with Yi Sang's already powerful Sunshower EGO and synergystic Spicebush ID, resulted in Yi Sang being able to completely decimate waves by himself and casually deal 4-digit damage to Abnormalities with multiple parts.

Which has the major problem of "100%" being equal to a multiplier of 1, basically saying it increases the sin power damage by 1 per stack, when the bug is about the power increase being more like 100 times because of said bug.
I feel like the other editor misunderstood what "100%" would actually mean in a mathematical context, and i'd like the misunderstanding to be cleared up for them before an Edit War breaks out.

https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisinglyHappyEnding
- Final Fantasy VI seems like it's well on its way some kind of tragic or heavily bittersweet ending after Kefka destroys the world, but whether it gets that way is entirely up to the actions of the player, as any party deaths, as well as the death of Cid, are entirely preventable, with the only hero who's unaccounted for being Banon, and once the party defeats Kefka the ending goes out of its way to show that the "World of Ruin" is on its way to recovery.
This entry completely glosses over the extinction of an entire race of magical beings. The only survivor is the main character Terra who only survived because she's half human. I wanted to add this fact but If I did then it wouldnt be the trope or at least it would argue with itself which is a nono.

- Troper Battiste 06 introduced a (faulty) Alternate History entry, which was re-edited countless times until reaching the final form here
- Troper AK 47 Productions cut it here

- Troper Battiste 06 reinstated the entry
without any comment or alternation
On top of that, the entry itself borders on Epileptic Trees, as absolutely nothing in the film even suggests such situation.

Self-explanatory. I want to put ROYN as an example of media that uses certain tropes in their respective pages, but the format of the series makes it hard to handle this, so how should I handle this?
Edited by GammaRaul

On Nov. 4th, 2018, I corrected
the Official Couple entry for Air Gear due to being inaccurate to the epilogue chapter.
Erivale: I just read through the whole series again, and it's pretty clear that Ikki's date with Simca is two riders who respect each other meeting up for a run and the fulfilment of an old promise, as compared to the overt romantic overtones involved in Ikki's resolution with Ringo. Even during the epilogue itself, Ringo is treated as the woman in Ikki's life, not just a prospective for his affections.
As that edit reason feels more like an Alternative Character Interpretation as to what happened, which isn't troped on the main page. From an objective standpoint, Simca kissed Ikki, offered to go on that date they promised long ago, he blushed before chasing after her, and Ringo begins to get jealous, so unless something like Word of God spoke out against it, the depiction is that the series ends on a Love Triangle. With this in mind, I request permission to revert the edit without risk of inciting an Edit War.
