resolved Fanfic self-recommendation on FanficRecs/RWBY Web Original
(Why do the RWBY pages get so much attention here?)
Skybrigadier, the author of The Reactsverse, recommended Weiss Reacts (the verse's first entry) on RWBY's Fanfic Recs page.
I've removed it from the page, under the assumption that any following recommendations are in reaction (heh) to the illicit self-rec. Allowing Weiss Reacts to stay on the page despite initially being self-recced would set a very bad precedent for fanfic recs pages.
Edited by bwburke94openStellaris YMMV example about a racist mod and controversy Videogame
We have this example on YMMV.Stellaris:
- What Do You Mean, It's Not Political?:
- A user created a mod that turned all Human phenotypes into European ones. While not particularly significant, the user also added the tagline "No Multiculturalism Here!", which resulted in the comments section of the mod being about what you'd expect with such a tagline. Cue the mod being deleted within the blink of an eye, a teacup tempest erupting over it, and the mod being brought back. You can read all about it here.
For the record (again), Paradox are Swedish. And that is all that will be said about that.

There is an Example Indentation issue already, but the example has other issues. Particularly potential drama importation/Flame Bait (note the Internet Backdraft pothole. The racist nature of the mod itself also does not do the example any favors) and that it is the only time on the YMMV page in which a Game Mod was referenced. Paradox being Swedish was likewise also unmentioned on the page outside the example. The history revealed the reason for the referencing of Sweden and the indentation. Both were tied to another example (added by a different troper) that was cut by the Trump/ROJEC thread. In which case I ask if we should cut it or not?
Edited by MorningStar1337openEditing error. Film
On the page Logan I made an edit for a speech and then clicked enter to stop an editing mistake which succeeded with the previews. Someone undid the enter causing that editing mistake again. I don't want to fix this myself because it could be confused with an edit war.
Edited by ReynTime250openDeleted example
Berzerkerking deleted the example of Better Than Canon from Warhammer: Age of Sigmar. As far as I'm aware of, the context of the example was factually correct; is the deletion itself appropriate?
openPolish Translation?
Hello, this is Piterpicher. I would like to translate this wiki to Polish, and I know the translation forums exist, but the Polish translation topic hasn't gotten a reply for over a year, and I don't know if the people there are active. Should I try to find and contact them, do a post on that topic, make a new topic or simply start translating myself ? I think that it’s a good idea to make a Polish translation, and popularize this website with Poles and other people from West Europe so please, do not lock this question.
Edited by PiterpicheropenDoes this long section belong in the MadeOfEvil Page intro
- With a villain like this, this has to be easy material for a Complete Monster, right? Not exactly. As a matter of fact, a being that's Made of Evil transcends the Complete Monster character and stands between being a person and being a formless concept. (unless they CHOOSE to forsake any goodness inside of them making it a moral agency; for example M. Bison). Since they're a living embodiment of evil itself, they can't do anything other than what their nature demands them to do. The ability to make moral choices to become good or evil is a must for this trope. However, a being Made of Evil CAN qualify as a Complete Monster if they show the ability to do good but ultimately choose not to. As such, villains like Mephisto, Diablo, Apep, and Lord Foul qualify as CMs regardless of their inherently evil nature.
This is in the intro for the Made of Evil page. I personally think its long and out of place, it'd be a better fit in an analysis page of the Complete Monster trope, not the Made of Evil page description.
Edited by Monsundopen Horror of the Narrative Self
A popular psychological and philosophical theory (found in Jaques Lacan, Paul Ricouer, George Herbert Mead, Michail Bakhtin, Daniel Dennet, Jerome Bruner, Jonathan Gottschall) and many others is that the self is a product of our self narrative — linguistic thought.
Many of the same theorists also argue that we need to internalise an "Other" (generalised other, super ego, super-addressee, impartial spectator) to hear and speak our narrative.
Freud, and perhaps Kitarou Nishida argue that this other is hidden, or unconscious, due to being horrific. This gives rise to the suggestion that language, the voice, and perhaps ears, are horrific.
This may be related to the Demonic Dummy trope already covered here.
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/DemonicDummy
It is claimed that that there is a lot of graffiti in Western horror. Monsters announce their impending arrival with writing on walls, windows and mirrors (e.g. Strangers, The lady in the Black Dress, What Lies Beneath, The Candyman, Excorcist, Excorcist 3, Mothers Day etc.). In addition to "redrum," the novel" (all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy) in the Shining Is related too. Is there already 'demonic graffiti' or "horrific writing" type trope?
Another trope might be the way in which monsters and murderers phone in to their victims first such as in Scream and another movie about a babysitter where it turns out the person phoning is in the house (which is similar to the pivotal line in Scream).
Are there any other tropes that might be related?
I am particularly interested in Films but any medium would do.
openNot sure if vandalism or just poorly thought out
Someone named King Bowser 9001 appears to have changed every subpage link on "Blind Idiot" Translation to complete nonsense with the actual links potholed, apparently in an effort to make them self-demonstrating. I'm almost certain this was unapproved, but just wanted to check here. (To add insult to injury, it doesn't look like they're even actual mangled translations).
openTLP of banned users
I have a question about TLP etiquette in regards to banned users. I've been working on a trope draft created by Getta, who was recently found to be a sock puppet of an already banned user and who was thus bounced. I know that the normal rule is to wait two months before taking over someone else's draft, but in this case (the creator being banned/no longer being welcome), would it be alright to consider it Up For Grabs already and take over working on it myself?
Edited by OrbitingopenEdit War in Seasonal Rot
There seems to be a slow-burning Edit War over at Seasonal Rot. Troper Wyldchyld deleted a Bleach entry revolving around the Arrancar arc. Troper Austin restored it with no substantial changes and an edit reason of "Correct. Do not remove." Wyldchyld re-deleted it with an edit reason directing the reader to the Discussion page, where they made a short post explaining their reasoning. Austin restored it, again substantially unchanged, leaving a brief paragraph in their edit reason but without participating in the Discussion thread.
I don't have a horse in this race, not being a Bleach fan myself and knowing nothing about whether the entry is valid, but the matter seems to require some more input, as these two seem unlikely to reach consensus between themselves.

openPotential edit warring on ''Characters/TheLastOfUs'' (Is it my fault?) Videogame
I'm getting a bit annoyed. It seems like every time I try to edit the character page for The Last of Us, any changes or examples I add are either deleted, commented out or re-edited, many times seemingly instantly after I post them. Admittedly some of them may have been misuses, but I'm getting really mad. I recently removed the page from my watchlist due to both the frustration and the desire to avoid potential spoilers from ''The Last of Us Part 2", but I went back to add more examples (which will likely get removed too) and saw more things removed. Off the top of my head, here's what was revised (examples are paraphrased SPOILERS AHEAD):
- Berserk Button: Joel has a tendency to get pissed off when someone asks about his past before the infection, particularly his dead daughter Sarah (this one was admittedly a misuse in hindsight, since the trope doesn't apply to situations that would reasonably anger someone, and Joel would reasonably not want to talk about such a painful memory and Ellie was intentionally pressing him about it)
- From Nobody to Nightmare: I pointed out Joel's rise from average, working class single father pre-outbreak, to reckless hardcore survivalist with a body count likely in the triple digits. David's group openly runs away from him rather than fight him after having killed dozens of their men. It was removed due to being "for villains only" even though a) it clearly says on the trope page itself "that being a villain is not necessarily a requirement for this trope, even though most who fit the trope are. Anyone who is feared or dreaded by someone (even if the "someone" in question is the cruel and tyrannical government that the heroes oppose) can qualify." and b) Batman is listed as an example. Not to mention that Joel is, at best a Nominal Hero.
- Older Than They Look: It's a bit hard to believe that Ellie is fourteen. Joel even asks if she's 12 when he first meets her. (She "looks that age to me". Though I do have a problem guessing the ages of children because I have always been younger than I look, I was 6 ft tall by the time I was fourteen and my voice deepened at a very young age; I had a Kevin Conroy-like baritone at the age of ten! So a kid that looks eight or nine to me will usually end up being in their early teens. Furthermore, nearly all of the adults in my town are also Younger Than They Look, further adding to the confusion). But again, Joel himself comments on it in the story, so the example should remain.
Those are just the ones off the top of my head, and most of the edits (except the last one) have been from a single user. Az_Tech341. I haven't PM'd him/her about the issue yet and I doubt it would go well if I did, so I just skipped a step and went here. Is there an issue or am I just an idiot who should stop editing the page altogether? I have already lost my editing privileges once when I was fairly new, and I'm trying to avoid it happening a second time. Probably doesn't help my case, but I have to be honest.
Edited by thecarolinabull01openHow do I revive a forum?
I once started a forum about an upcoming game a while back. However, I made the mistake of starting it with just links to other websites. Rather then handle it calmly and maturely, I asked for the thread to be nuked because I was wallowing in self-hatred at the time. I would like to try to revive the thread and asked the person who nuked it if I could start it again, but they haven't replied back.

openLunatic0verlord and complaining
Lunatic0verlord seems to habitually add negative comments
or irrelevant details to the page and/or the edit reasons.
- Fire Emblem
: added "for some reasons" because "It makes about as much sense as Emalf's Latino Accent."
- Fake Crossover: adding "Tokyo Mirage Sessions ♯FE might just be one of the fakest crossovers there is." because "I can't call it a REAL Crossover. So it can only be a fake one."
- Invincible Hero: adding "Alice from the Resident Evil Movies. She goes from an unbeatable Badass Normal to an overpowered Empowered Badass Normal across the films. Has hardly faced many things that she could consider a threat to herself and as if that wasn't enough, in order to ensure her invincibility, EVERYONE around her is an Adaptational Wimp (yes, even Nemesis and Wesker)!" because "I guess that's the closest thing we have to talk about her Mary Sue traits."
- Heartwarming.South Park The Stick Of Truth: added "However, they seem to drop it after what he did to Chef, not batting an eye over Cartman pushing him down his fortress.]]" because "What he did to Chef was totally uncalled for. But what Cartman did to him was totally called for."
- Rookie Red Ranger: added "(and, in Echoes, there's Fernand who outright LEAVES in frustration)" because "As a major villain, it's important to mention Fernand." which has nothing to do with the trope, and seems to be there purely to point out "Canon Foreigner gets UPSET".
- Adaptational Wimp was where I first noticed something seemed off... replacing "Alice" with "Alice (and even then, she's a Canon Foreigner)" because "Less flame baity, Alice is exclusive to the films". It seems someone spoke to them because they later changed "[[CreatorsPet Alice]]" to "[[BoringInvincibleHero Alice]]" because "Apparantly that Trope isn't allowed either... Guess that leaves only one option..."
openBlatant Lies Real Life
The "Not Real Life" folder for Blatant Lies starts with "This kind of lie has never actually worked in Real Life. Therefore, what follows are all aversions and subversions." But most of the following Real Life examples are straight uses.
The line was added by Thesedaysthosedays, I can't see anything to suggest it wasn't a unproved unilateral decision. Is it supposed to be a self-demonstrating?
Also, they added political examples to it violating ROCEJ
, and we cut BlatantLies.Real Life Politics And War because of the controversy.
What should be done?
openTheirself or themself?
I'm doing a mass edit on the Soul Nomad & the World Eaters page to change most of the pronouns for Revya, a character who can be either male or female, to "they" or "them" from "he/she" or "him/her". However, I'm unsure of what to do with "him/herself". Do either of the above work or is there better word to put in it's place?
Also, is "they" or "them" preferable to "he/she" or "him/her"? What exactly is the policy for characters whose gender can be chosen and don't have default options?
Edited by AkoSiKuya23openRegaridng all white entries... Anime
I found a couple spoilered entries on Anime.Pokemon The Movie Black And White. Specifically The Bad Guy Wins and Earn Your Happy Ending:
- The Bad Guy Wins: All of Damon's goals are accomplished successfully despite his Heel–Face Turn; this only means the Kingdom of the Vale was restored without the unintended and unaccounted-for side effects happening.
- Fridge Brilliance: The Dragon Force became destructive as a result of the two brothers of yore fighting their battle with Reshiram and Zekrom. It was neither the truth of collapse/the ideal of harmony that Ash bore nor the ideal of rebirth/the truth of vigilance Damon possessed that saved the Kingdom of the Vale in the end, but the cooperation between them, and between Reshiram and Zekrom in turn. Hate and zeal only destroy themselves and everything around them.
- Earn Your Happy Ending: How Damon's goals are accomplished without world destruction happening.
I am asking if the examples should be reworded or if the markup should be removed (On the one hand, Its canon status is dubious at best and it could be considered independent of the anime, a Non-Serial Movie. On the other hand the movie itself is a decade old at this point)? I will move the Fridge Brilliance bullet to the YMMV page once I edit these entries.

More than once I've seen Trick Arrow being potholed for Trick "something else" such as yo-yos or umbrellas. And Trick Arrow page itself also lists stuff like that.
Is that an okay thing to do?
