openAn Artical Possibly in a Wrong Namespace Webcomic
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Victory Fire
I recently had come across this comic on the internet, but since I'm a new reader, I have no idea if this webcomic has any history pre-2012 (like if it started as a Fan Fic and then became a webcomic). So my question is this: Is this article possibly in the wrong namespace? If it is, then this article belongs the Webcomics namespace. Also I'm a novice, so I'm not comfortable trying to move pages by myself currently.
openCleanup efforts for trivia subpages in creator pages.
Hello. I've been trying to help clean up Creator pages by having its trivia pages cut-listed and the trivia moved back into the Creator itself per the previous ATT discussion
such as 4Kids Entertainment, but what would be the best place to start a project on this matter? Thanks.
openConfused by 'glurge addict'
First of all, I apologize if this is the wrong place for stuff like this. I'm just confused by the Glurge Addict trope, mainly some of the examples. Glurge itself is a trope I've had a hard time understanding exactly(common for me) but it seems to involve works meant to be inspirational, or heartwarming having dark Unfortunate Implications and the like. Glurge Addict however, seems to me to have very little to do with Glurge. Is this just examples of Square Peg Round Trope? Or is this really meant to just be fans of super cute things? Some of the examples I'm talking about are like "Little Shop of Horrors has Audrey. She has a stuffed puppy on her bed, and other cute decorations around her room. " and other things that are just about super cute things, and not actual Glurge. Was this the intention? I'm just really confused. Sorry that this ended up being such a mess. I'm not an expert on editing here at all.
openReporting a troper
I would like to report Tropers.Lady Jane Grey due to issues with Handling Spoilers, Parabombing, and Word Cruft. Their edit history
.
I messaged them today regarding the Word Cruft, but not only have they not replied, but they have continued making edits without correcting the mess.
The example I messaged them about is this one added to Casanova Wannabe yesterday
:
* Alito in ''Anime/YuGiOhZexal'' tries to charm and romance Katori, ultimately seeing Yuma as a rival for her affection. (Ironically, Yuma [[ChasteHero doesn't see her that way at all]].) His lame, hammy, and sappy attempts fall flat and come off as silly. (Seeing as [[AntiVillain he's a Barian]], it's rather awkward anyway; he doesn't even recognize Yuma as an enemy until ''after'' seeing him as a rival for Katori.)
Parabombing is present in this example. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't parabombing count as Word Cruft? And does it really fit the trope itself?
Another example has to do with Handling Spoilers. On the 23rd of July
, they added this to Literature.Harry Potter And The Chamberof Secrets:
* LeeroyJenkins: [[spoiler:At first, it is assumed that Hermione was petrified because she acted like this, looking for the Chamber alone and unprepared. In truth, the Trope is ''seriously'' subverted. She ''was'' prepared, the reason she wasn't ''killed''.]]
We have improper capitalization, you can't "seriously" subvert a trope, and examples shouldn't be whited out, even if the trope itself remains visible.
Just today
, they added four examples to IneffectualSympatheticVillain.Comic Books:
* The there was Signalman. Supposedly, he was a crook who figured he needed some gimmick to be successful, so taking inspiration from the Bat-Signal, he embarked on crimes where, like the Riddler, he left clues for the hero. But signals just don't grab a fan's attention as much as riddles do, and his costume looked like some kid scribbled all over it. * Calendar Man started out like this. Julian Gregory Day (three puns in one there) committed crimes on holidays with an appropriate theme. (Like dressing as Uncle Sam on Independence Day and robbing historic museums.) And he made really bad puns doing it. Still, in recent years he's become a little more serious and seen in darker stories, becoming a ''little'' better and less of a joke. * Charlie Brown, the notorious Kite Man. ([[NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer Not making this up]], this lame ShoutOut even crashed into a tree in one story and yelled "Rats!") Obsessed with kites, he committed crimes with a rocket-powered hang glider, until he was killed off and [[OldShame never mentioned again.]] * One would think that a character designed by legends Bob Kane and Bill finger would be A-list, but the Penny Plunderer was anything but. Joe Coyne (uh, yeah) was a newspaper seller who was fired for stealing pennies, and turned to crime over an obsession for them. But it gets worse. This was the ''original owner of the giant penny'', the one in the Batcave. DC was so embarrassed by this story, they gave it a RetCon that made the villain RetGone, attributing the giant penny to Two-Face and banishing the Penny Plunderer from canon.
Parabombing is present. Additionally, a typo in the first example, which I'm assuming to be "then" instead of "the", makes it come off as natter.
On the 21st of July
, they took the properly indented Sad Clown trope and put it under Non-Ironic Clown as a second-level bullet. Both are ZC Es.
Looking through my messages, I thought I had messaged them about Handling Spoilers, too, but it would seem I messaged someone else about it instead. The message regarding Word Cruft at least still stands.
Edited by TheNerfGuyopenNeed to cut down this paragraph
In the page for "Mind is a Plaything of the Body", I found this super long entry:
In Walk Through the Valley by Vathara, Hiko transforms uses LEGO Genetics to transform himself into a kiryuu alterant and kiryuu are felinoid aliens from the planet Satoyama that possesses Complete Immortality (anything that doesn't kill them immediately tends not to kill them at all), Innate Night Vision so strong that they very myopic during the day, sensory tendrils in place of hair, EMP-generation and perception which allows to share thoughts with each other, made possible by the sensory tendrils; and they are Knight Templar Parents that will kill any predators that come near the birthing den. Upon becoming half-man, half-kiryuu, he finds himself mentally declaring the cabin and where he woke up and everything within sight of it to be his when he'd previously never stayed anywhere more than a year at a time (except for his stint on Satoyama) and didn't allow himself to get attached and contemplating leaping sixty feet into the air to chase a bushy-tailed rodent on a tree. That was in the first week. Within five years, he finds himself killing in an Unstoppable Rage for the first time just because the victim, a member of the Oniwabanshuu, was under Mind Control like all citizens of The Federation to protect them from The Evils of Free Will (and the Oniwabanshuu are members of the Human Subspecies empowered to do the protecting through Telepathy). After that, his mountain was safe. Later, he finds himself with a dying eight-year-old escaped slave boy (Kenshin) and the only way to save him is an Emergency Transformation into a kiryuu alterant. Previously, Hiko had been a Child Hater, or, at least, wasn't interested in making sacrifices for a child such as free time or career. But after the second time Kenshin's skin shed, he found himself with unable to keep from growling at one of his few friends whenever she made sudden movements towards the cabin. This transformation lasted months. Months he had to spend working with the instincts until they re-categorized her as a "spark-ally" (sparks are what kiryuu packs are called).
Can anybody cut it down to a manageable size? I smell entry pimping.
Edited by RaygunJusticeopenSmitty91 Western Animation
There's a troper by the name of Smitty 91 who keeps going by different usernames and posting different entries in FiM's DMoS page. It's obvious he hates the show now, but good lord, this person is persistent. I've actually been asked about his latest entry on "Fame and Misfortune" (an episode that I, myself, hate for totally different reasons than mostly everyone else), which has since been removed, and I figured I'd let you know about this. This guy needs to stop. It is my request that this person be penalized for his continued misuse of the page.
Edited by SenorCornholioopenBiased Troper Deletions
This troper here
has taken to deleting entries on Characters.Game Of Thrones House Stark Children regarding Jon Snow. Any examples critical of the show's version of Jon Snow, are removed and examples insisting that he's a special genius contrary to visual examples are placed instead.
Now initially I backed away from these deletions, but another troper restored the entries indicating a consensus for the original view, and voila the Show!Jon fan has deleted the entries (which I corrected and improved since that was even more negative) this time without a comment explaining or defending himself.
openFound a suitable image...now what?
So I ask on Image Pickin if an image is suitable, they say it is and...now what? Do I add it myself or do the staff add it?
open A cut request I didn't make
So I was browsing through Steven Universe's subpages and found that TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot.Steven Universe had been cut... By myself. I don't remember making this request, and considering how many entries the trope had, I wouldn't consider it unneeded. How did this happen?
Edited by Crossover-Enthusiastopen What do you call this kind of edit?
Is there a word/TV Tropes term for when you make an edit, then you realize you made a mistake in that edit and re-edit that same entry to fix your mistake? I thought that was called a "null edit", but then I looked up Administrivia.Edit Reasons And Why You Should Use Them and found that that's not what that means.
The reason I ask this is because I've done this before: I've made mistakes in my edits, and I would always catch them and re-edit them to correct my own mistakes, and I would always point out in the Edit Reason Box that "I caught my own mistake and corrected them myself." However, I just realized that I've never known if there's an actual term for this kind of edit.
Maybe this is a weird question, but it's something that's been on my mind for months, and I only just remembered to ask now.
Edited by mouschilightopenDoes this count as Creator Backlash?
Remember "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer", by Patsy and Elmo? Well, today, I found this song by Elmo (as a solo act named Dr. Elmo), called ["Don't Make Me Play that Grandma Song Again"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTfXQwdkJks)
, which is about a DJ who is sick of playing the song. At first, I thought it could be self-deprecation, especially since he calls Elmo someone who cannot sing, but then, hearing the lyrics again, I thought it could simply be an observance on how overplayed the song is (as Christmas songs usually are). So does this fit?
openarticle cut request declined
Since the cut request for Bola Idiota was declined, I'd like to ask why, since I think the reason made a good argument for it to be cut and it doesn't have a massive number of inbounds. Also, it's an incorrect name, so to make it a redirect to preserve the inbounds would legitimize bad translations. The one wick it has is actually on the page itself; the content was moved & improved upon at Bola del Tonto, which is an accurate name. "Bola Idiota" is using idiota as a personal adjective to describe the ball, giving it an inherent level of intelligence rather than actually reflect the trope. This literal word-for-word translation can be seen in the actual page for Bola Idiota itself. I don't see why it wasn't cut.
openTwo very minor issues
1) So according to Administrivia. How To Write An Example, "descriptions of events in an example should usually be written in present tense." The troper PF
changed the wordings of some tropes from present tense to past tense; for example, in the Executive Meddling Anime page
, he changed the sentence "Masashi Kishimoto reveals that" to "Masashi Kishimoto revealed that".
2) Also from Administrivia. How To Write An Example, the troper Rich4
has an issue with Adding Multiple Tropes With A Slash, particularly on the Naruto Hokages Character page
. Take a look at how, under the "General" folder and "First Hokage - Hashirama Senju" folder, they added "World's Best Warrior / World's Strongest Man".
I think that these are very minor offenses. So, personally, I want to fix these mistakes myself, because they're both such fixable edits, but I fear that if I correct these, I'd be causing an Edit War. Would I be causing an Edit War if I correct these examples? Any advice on what to do?
Edited by mouschilightopenDo Rick & Morty count as Decoy or Supporting Protagonists? Western Animation
The user by the name of Mack Wylde keeps trying to shoehorn the following trope into the Rick and Morty page numerous times over the past few months. I delete it with a reason proving why it can't apply, so they wait a few weeks and try to sneak it back in.
- Decoy Protagonist: Sort of. The series seems to really be about the Smith's family dynamics and not just about Rick and Morty and their adventures.
- Supporting Protagonist: Rick and Morty. The series may center on their adventures but it seems to be more about their family dynamic rather than the two of them alone.
First off, the series is called Rick & Morty. Rick and Morty are the two main characters of the franchise and appear in every episode in one way or another. The overarching storyline does involve Rick's family and their own disfunctional problems from time to time, but the focus remains around Rick and Morty themselves. Rick and Morty appear in every episode, while Beth, Jerry, and Summer may not appear at all.
I already debunked the numerous attempts to throw in Decoy Protagonist because the absolute very first scene in the Pilot episode starts with Rick barging in on Morty in his room. The laconic itself proves this can't apply just by that alone.
Finally, the way it's worded isn't even sure about itself. "Seems to be" are three words that indicate there's no objectively concrete proof that it is.
I finally decided to take it here before this one-sided edit war escalates any further.
Edited by DRCEQopenWick check script
Would it be acceptable to make a script that scrapes the site for the purposes of making a wick check easier?
Specifically, this script would download the "Related" page for a single article, choose an appropriate number of wicks, and then download the page source for all such wicks. For all requests, the script would identify itself via the User-Agent header.
openAm I the only one that feels that call of duty zombies YMMV Page needs cleanup Videogame
Link here https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/CallOfDutyZombies
Ok, let's not beat around the bush: this YMMV Page is kinda messy: It has chevkov's gun in this section for some reason... It Also has a few "as noted above/as noted below" that end Up being confusing as heck. And things like this:
Scrappy Weapon: The SMR, with excellent reason. Bad power, low capacity, arduous reload speed, semi-automatic and worst of all, it has a glitch that makes aiming down the sights exactly the same as hip firing, giving it almost nonexistent accuracy. It was never even patched during the lifetime of Black Ops II. Yeah, good luck aiming down the sights across 50 feet. After an update, the SMR FINALLY started to redeem itself in its Pack-a-Punched form, which gained improved accuracy. The Springfield, a weapon so weak it can't even one-shot a zombie in the chest on round 1. That in itself is inexcusable, but even worse is that the ironsights are off, requiring you to aim slightly to the left of what you want to shoot, otherwise you'll miss. On that note, the Kar98k. The only two things it has over the Springfield are that it can be bought off the wall on most Wa W maps for 200 points, and it doesn't have misaligned ironsights. Other than that, it's just as pathetic. Go ahead, try Pack-a-Punching it. It'll totally be worthy of the name Armageddon. In general a good chunk of starter weapons become this, due to fact that they become weaker as time goes on..
Sadly, I have barely any knowledge about call of duty zombies' story or Gameplay. If someone that was familiar with this series could help... It would be appreciated. Maybe splitting the YMMV page in two could also help
Edited by RAHDRONopenHow do I make redirect pages of Mainspace tropes?
Reading Anti-Frustration Features, its lead paragraph mentions that the term is sometimes called "Quality of Life" features. But when I look below the Alternative Title(s) part below the page, there is no such thing as "Quality of Life" redirecting to this page.
How would I make a Quality Of Life page that redirects to Anti-Frustration Features? I want the alternative term to be displayed below, but when I tried to make the page myself, the site always redirects me to the Trope Launch Pad

I found Jossed on a Trivia page, but I've never seen it there before. The Jossed page itself doesn't help either way.
openWant to ask this in hopes of preventing an EditWar Videogame
So, in Unbuilt Trope I recently added the example of how Resident Evil 4 codified the Press X to Not Die trope and how it mainly existed to play up the Survival Horror elements and keep the player on their toes during cutscenes.
However, not a day later I checked back and see someone had replaced Resident Evil 4 with Clock Tower in the example. I don't want to change it, mainly because I never played Clock Tower myself so I can't say anything.
Can anyone verify if it's a better example for this trope or should be reverted back? Since I don't know anything about Clock Tower I don't want to get into a possible edit war over this. All I really know is that Press X to Not Die didn't really take off until RE4 did it, even if other examples existed earlier.

Dravencour changed all spellings of "Freeza" to "Frieza" in Characters.Dragon Ball Z Abridged Movies. His name is officially spelled "Freeza" in this series, a point stressed multiple times. There are far too many examples for me to correct myself, can a mod please revert the changes?
