resolved Potential edit war and unneeded “word cruft” cleaning in TabletopGame/SLAIndustries
A troper named mcghie68 (apologies if that didn’t format right) has been constantly undoing edits under the reason of “word cruft”, but in the process removing the actual information in the edits as opposed to simply cleaning grammar. Now, initially I thought this was an abundance of caution given SLA Industries and its notoriously convoluted canon history and leaks, but now it is affecting edits I know were okayed by Word of God as officially published books that are still available and still canon, like Threat Analysis: Collateral or the skirmish game Cannibal Sector 1.
Edit for clarification: I noted a brewing Edit War in my last edit, but have not notified them yet, as given said canon issues, I wanted to make sure myself (a lot of edits were removed based on them being in a backer beta, not a yet-published book).
Edited by LelielopenProblematic edits
So troper Shadowking 5423 recently made the page for Vampires, Trolls and Witches OH MY!!. Myself and another troper made some edits related to their work and sent them notifiers to help improve their formatting and grammar. However, when I checked back earlier, I found that they reverted an edit the other troper had made in favor of an edit that had both grammar and indentation issues. This shows that they are either not understanding or not getting the edit notes myself and the other troper have sent. I don't want this to break into an edit war, but I also would like some help on how to get through to this guy/

resolved BonaFIDE's edits to Recap.SpongeBobSquarePantsS2E14WelcomeToTheChumBucketFrankendoodle Western Animation
Bona FIDE made these edits on Recap.Sponge Bob Square Pants S 2 E 14 Welcome To The Chum Bucket Frankendoodle:
- Unexpectedly Dark Episode: The episode from the revelation that Plankton has obtained SpongeBob's services to the musical number has copious, if not gratuitous amount of crying. And that's the tip of the iceberg, with SpongeBob's brain being removed and placed in a robot and the Krusty Krab actually shutting down! Holy overexagerating, Batman! This is not "unexpectedly dark". Plankton basically kidnaps SpongeBob for one episode and shenanigans ensue with everything going back to normal by the end. There are really only two scenes with crying and they're semi-Played for Laughs (any emotional tension is broken up with Plankton being a comedically massive jerk). SpongeBob's brain being removed is also Played for Laughs given how we don't see the operation, Plankton's plan fails miserably regardless and SpongeBob gets his brain back in short order, and the Krusty Krab is shut down for a grand total of about 10 seconds. Also a Pothole to a Moments page. Yeah that song in the middle of the episode made me weepy as a kid but it's followed up with more typical SpongeBob hijinks. This is no darker than your typical SpongeBob episode.
He added Just Eat Gilligan to the page even though it's YMMV now and even then, it makes no sense: Plankton couldn't control what Mr. Krabs was going to bet: his secret recipe (which, let's face it, he would probably never in a million years do even if he was confident he would win) or SpongeBob's employment contract. He also added a Sinkhole elsewhere on the page.
- Just Eat Gilligan: Plankton admits he threw card games so that Mr. Krabs would bet something valuable, but despite the idea of betting the physical formula being mentioned twice (one time by Plankton himself), Plankton goes for SpongeBob instead for some reason.
He changed the word "punk" to "jerk" several times for some reason.
Edited by supernintendo128resolved Edit warring to keep a YMMV item on a main work page
About a month ago ~King Ghost added
Designated Hero—a YMMV item—with improper Example Indentation to Webcomic. The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace.
Yestersday I sent "YMMV" and "indentation" Notifiers to King Ghost, then removed
the entry from the page and combined
it with the entry that was already on YMMV.The Idaten Deities Know Only Peace.
Today King Ghost replied to the notifiers with what clearly showed he didn't read the articles linked in them to understand why what he did was wrong. I replied to the replies, but then I checked the page itself and saw that he had already
put Designated Hero back on the work page, again improperly indented, and with Edit Reasons that also show he doesn't understand what the problem is.
I'd continue to try explaining things to him before coming here, but since there's a rule violation on the page I'd wanted some help with that, since removing it again is pointless if he'll just put it back once again.
openDoes Straight Gay only apply to men or are women included?
On Characters.Celeste, there's a commented out note
added by scoooool with the following:
This states that Straight Gay only applies to gay men, which is also suggested by the laconic page.
A gay male with no stereotypical gay traits or mannerisms.
However, on the actual page itself, it makes it clear that Straight Gay applies to men and women, with the first paragraph being:
Originally treated as a subversion of the standard gay stereotypes, the Straight Gay is a homosexual male or female character who has no camp mannerisms, Butch Lesbian tendencies, or obviously "gay" affectations.
So which is it? Is Straight Gay supposed to be an Always Male trope or are women included as well?
It's worth noting that the addition of female characters/lesbians to the description was retroactively added
by Emie K 88 in 2023 with no edit reason.
resolved SnowPatrol = Similar_Set_6582?
Per this ATT thread
, the troper zombies4eva made a report trying to get another troper in trouble for "un-reverting ban evader edits", only for it to turn out that zombies4eva was ban evading themself. While their edits have been taken care of, one question remains. A troper by the name of Snow Patrol started the discussion post
that zombies4eva replied to and took to ATT, and seeing that zombies4eva was apparently ban evading with at least two other accounts around the same time,I was just wondering if Snow Patrol is another sock of theirs. Even if it isn't, Snow Patrol's discussion post is near-identical to the one that Similar Set made on Reddit
, meaning that they're engaging in drama importation/exportation, if nothing else. The fact that they've made no edits on this wiki and only seem to have made the account to add the discussion post only fuels the point.
As the mods have said, while there's nothing they can do about a Reddit (or any other website) user stirring up trouble on this wiki, they can do something if the person also has an account on TVT.
Edited by UFOYeahopenStrange wording for the Adaptational Nice Guy trope under Ranma Saotome Character folder
So, I checked out the Ranma ½: Ranma Saotome page and under the Adaptational Nice Guy section, the examples seemed to be showcase in a weird way. Like there's a lot of run on sentences and the examples seem to be all over the place. Here's what the entry says:
- Adaptational Nice Guy : Zigzagged. While the 89 anime cuts out most of his teasing to Akane, it also tends to add extra insults as filler, making Ranma rattle off whole lists of insults completely unprompted and doubling down on originally silly, short comments, so that it comes across like he genuinely means the insults he tosses Akane's way. The fact that the insults often come unprompted ironically makes Ranma look meaner in the end, despite there being less of them than in the manga.
- With the "you should learn to be half as sexy as I am" comment with the pictures Nabiki sold Kunō, the '89 anime adds a scene of him going "All I did was tell her the truth!" and later, "You're following me around hoping my good looks will rub off on you." This makes Ranma call Akane ugly on top of "unsexy" and imply he means it when he says Akane's ugly, completely contradicting how it's later implied the exact opposite (as he blushes watching Akane play sports right before denying she's cute, and then tries to talk himself out of it on the way home).
- In the filler episode "Pelvic Fortune Telling", Ranma rattles off an entire list of insults completely unprompted and even starts singing about it. Note that Ranma only lists off insults in the manga twice: when they barely knew each other and he was trying to convince Kunō he wasn't interested in Akane, and when he was trying to cure Akane's Shampoo-inflicted Laser-Guided Amnesia. The '89 anime has Ranma do this far more often.
Ranma: Akane... CONGRATULATIONS! You can't cook, you're not much of a looker — the one thing you do have is brute strength! Plus, you have got the biggest pair of hips in all of Japan! You're built like a brick... Your legs are too thick... You're singing the big hip blues...
openTrope removal on Um Jammer Lammy
In February, MrAnonimo removed
this entry from Trivia.Um Jammer Lammy without any reason.
- Word of Gay: Rodney Greenblat responded to a fan's inquiry by saying that he would love to see Lammy and Katy as a couple
, and would incorporate it into the story if he was ever asked to design a new Lammy game. Later on, he drew a piece for Valentine's Day where they play a love song together
. Most fans have taken this as his confirmation that Lammy and Katy are in a relationship.
The removal strikes me as odd, since Greenblat is one of the series' creators and the entry fits the trope. While I noticed that two of MrAnonimo's edits seem to be removing entries regarding Lammy and Katy's relationship, the content removed didn't fit (entries for Les Yay and Fan-Preferred Couple that don't fit if they've been confirmed as dating, and natter on a Self-Fanservice entry) so I don't see anything off.
Should I re-add the entry?
resolved Edit on Jesse Ventura
I noticed that somebody made quite substantial edits on the Wrestling.Jesse Ventura page. Basically, on every mention that Ventura was Governor of Minnesota, "Governor" is replaced with "Premier" (even though the name of the office is Governor) and claims without proof that Ventura is a Canadian citizen (even though he was born in Minnesota). I though about editing it myself, but the changes are so substantial that I thought it would be easier to ask a mod to take a look at it and revert it wholesale, as I don't see any proof of these claims.
openPotentially inappropriate Troper page?
So, a troper by the name of MissRoboto edited a page I followed, and, checking their page, I found a single folder on it labelled "some of my pet peeve tropes", and its only contents are "none. because i know how to not make a fool of myself on the internet by not whining about stupid gay bullshit." Before this, they also appear to have changed their page to only read "wow this place is a freakshow. i dont respect literally any of you people —Anonymous Neopets forum poster" (link)
. I will be brutally honest and admit I do have my share of qualms regarding certain aspects of this site, but surely this has to be a violation of some policy?
openBiased Troper (only in regards to Paper Mario, though) Videogame
DarkChirano
seems to have a hateboner for the recent entries of Paper Mario (that is to say, Sticker Star and Color Splash), often being quick to put in information that, while factual, attacks the game, or being biased on the YMMV pages. Although some of it is older, almost all of it is out against the games:
- From early 2016, calling Sticker Star an Obvious Beta for interesting reasons:
Obvious Beta: While the game doesn't suffer any intrinsic technical issues, several basic features such as a secondary stat/meter (which actually was in a beta) or a unique reward type for defeating enemies are not present. Action Command prompts are also missing in action, meaning the player won't know Things have action commands. The programming behind Kersti's advice is also incredibly simplistic, only giving advice by activated event flags, compared to the first two Paper Mario's guides giving advice by the room. This may have to do with the developers scrapping the game twice.
- Attacking the current developers (who made the aforementioned games) as well as producer Kensuke Tanabe on YMMV.Paper Mario (bolded is what they added):
Worse still, some interviews have stated that they've handed over the reigns of the "Mario RPG" completely to the Mario And Luigi series, so there are some serious concerns that, as long as the creative team of the eighth gen games stay in charge, the dork age will literally never end.As has been explained many times, the Toad species have become The Scrappy to the Paper Mario fanbase due to an overabundance of generic Toads with no unique names and no real differences beyond colours or certain outfits. In addition, Toads are almost the only NPCs in both Sticker Star and Color Splash, greatly contrasting with the sheer variety of NPCs that the previous games had. This isn't helped by producer Kensuke Tanabe thinking Toads are the only usable friendly species, nor the fact the other current producers and directors also believe this to be true.
- Adding in more hate for Tanabe as well as the devs on YMMV.Paper Mario Color Splash (once again, bold is a new addition):
An interview
with Kensuke Tanabe revealed that Miyamoto was responsible for the lack of original characters, which was one of the major complaints about the game. However, this same interview also revealed Tanabe went to Miyamoto near-immediately after becoming producer for Color Splash, rather than Miyamoto coming to him. There's also the detail he never mentioned trying to negotiate the character restriction down, even if he couldn't outright say "No".
Risa Tabata also got a fair bit of scorn, getting the same treatment as Miyamoto. This is mainly thanks to the infamous interview with GameXplain, where most answers were either really vague such as "I don’t know if I want to say a proper story–but we have a story" or saying that since there's Mario & Luigi, there's "no need for RPG elements", which caused a massive Internet Backdraft. But at the end of the day, she's simply an assistant producer and not the lead developer, and thus she doesn't deserve some of the hatred she got beyond that interview. It's also worth stating she's mentioned Tanabe's influence a few times. The game itself started development very shortly after the release of Sticker Star, so by the time fans began savaging the revamped gameplay style, Intelligent Systems had put too much work into Color Splash to scrap it and start over. Of course, that in turn leads to the question of post-release patches for mechanic tweaks, such as the ScrappyMechanics mentioned below. - Pointing out that almost every character introduced in Sticker Star "doesn't actually have a name-name" on Characters.Paper Mario and calling it ironic that there are only 5 Toads in Color Splash with real names.
- As stated by lalalei2001, blaming Kensuke Tanabe and Rise Tabata for the whole "making Mario & Luigi the de-facto Mario RPG series" mess on YMMV.Mario And Luigi.
- Continuing the hatred of Tanabe and claiming that he thinks Toads are the only friendly species from the main series on Critical Research Failure.
* The reason why the 8th gen Paper Mario games only have Toads as a recurring friendly species is because producer Kensuke Tanabe thinks they're the only allies Mario has in the main series, and has encouraged his fellow staff to think likewise. Even a quick glance towards early gameplay of several main series games quickly demonstrate the utter falsehood of this belief, with species such as Piantas, Nokis, Jibberjays and Whittles, among many others.
However, their non-Paper Mario related edits seem to have been made by a reasonable person, so I'm not sure what's up, which is why I brought it here.
Edited by MegaMarioManopenI hope I'm not being a bit sensitive here, but something on the TVT's FB page just bugged me
So, over on the Facebook page, there's a post for Unsettling Gender-Reveal accompanied by a Cyanide and Happiness featuring just that. Now, (along with a lot of the rest of the trans population) it happens to be one of my least favourite tropes (for obvious reasons), but the article itself tackles the trope quite respectfully; mentioning the real life consequences and how it's loaded with Values Dissonance.
Unfortunately, it seems that whoever's running the Facebook account's decided to respond to people discussing the very same Unfortunate Implications in the comments with a "Triggered" meme (one featuring a caricature of a TERF, no less). That's...really not the sort of thing I want to see directed at myself as a transwoman, or being used to represent me as a troper.
resolved Possible NRELP violation?
I'm not a fan of Rooster Teeth or Achievement Hunter, but the Tear Jerker page for the latter work contains a lot of real-life examples that covers the personal issues or departures of its members, despite Tear Jerker itself prohibiting real-life examples on its work pages unless scripted (assuming that scripted RL examples are allowed in the first place). The example I want to bring up is the firing of Ryan Haywood.
- In October 2020, both Ryan and Funhaus personality Adam Kovic became involved in multiple scandals of inappropriate behavior towards fans, which ultimately resulted in both men leaving the company. This led to a lot of turmoil and nasty arguments among the RT community, and then crossed personal boundaries when Ryan's family—victims in their own right—became subject to death threats and harassment with one member of the community even doxxing his wife's practice.
- Amidst the scandal and Ryan's abruptly controversial exit from RT, that week's AHWU video was posted to YouTube with all of Ryan's footage erased and edited out. Unfortunately, this also had the effect of completely erasing community manager Steffie (who only appeared in group shots alongside Ryan) from the video, ironically in an AHWU that's supposed to be about announcing a Steffie Week of videos focusing on her.
- Even more heartbreaking are the Twitter responses from the various personalities within Achievement Hunter. They just weren't co-workers, they were friends and family and this was a major blindsiding betrayal for them.
- After Jack had been silent on the matter for several days, his wife Caiti came forward and revealed that he was silent because she had actually become borderline suicidal, and Jack had spent his time balancing taking care of her and his work life for nearly three weeks.
- It did not escape many people's notice that the game the group streamed that Friday was Dead by Daylight, one of Ryan's favorite games. The video constantly bounces between feeling like they're taking the game back for themselves and feeling like something is missing.
- It was later announced that all future videos involving Ryan that were recorded and ready to release will not be uploaded in the wake of the scandal, and the channel went silent throughout the timeframe they were supposed to come out. Even though it's understandable why, a lot of hard work and fun laughs that went into those videos will now be laid to waste due to reasons outside the rest of the group's control. In a double whammy to Steffie, not only did she get edited out of her own "Steffie Week" announcement, that week of videos is probably a casualty to affairs now.
- The first livestream
since the news broke. It opens with Jack looking utterly miserable, and it is very hard to blame him with recent developments regarding Ryan's conduct at the company. He makes it quite clear that he had no idea he was doing this, refers to him as “that monster.” He and Michael make it clear that all the AH Crew are all for removing as much content involving Ryan from all platforms as possible from their near decade-long video library, and stating that he will never be welcomed back. Not once during the entire video do they refer to Ryan by name. Seeing people as strong and energetic as Jack and Michael being near tears for twenty straight minutes is absolutely gut-wrenching from start to finish.
- In the stream, he goes out of his way to mention Geoff, saying that he's so overwhelmed that he has no intention of making a public statement and has asked to be alone. Geoff was one of the people who hired Ryan, so even if we haven't seen any public reaction to the news it's impossible to imagine it's anything other than complete shock and depression.
- Despite Jack saying he wouldn't, Geoff wrote a lengthy statement on the Rooster Teeth subreddit, refuting his old accusation allegations against him that he himself was sexting fans and may have known about Ryan's affairs. In it, he revealed some more heartbreaking details about his breakup with Griffon. For example, they realized their marriage was falling apart for far longer than they let on, and tried to go through a number of steps to salvage it, one of which was eventually polyamory. They attempted an open relationship (Geoff stresses that they had full communication during this time and had multiple therapists guiding them through it), but that eventually led to an allegation that he was cheating on his wife with a fan, which he has since refuted. He also mentions an unknown family incident that caused a nervous breakdown back in June, explaining why he has been absent from Rooster Teeth affairs for a while now.
- In the same week that Geoff wrote his statement, Trevor had to release a 10-page statement refuting abuse allegations against him, revealing that he was the victim of emotional abuse for the duration of his previous relationship. Even as he attempted to end the relationship with the support of his friends and moved on to a happier relationship with Barbara, his ex continued to stalk and harass him and kept spreading abuse allegations against him that he attempted to resolve privately until the scandals forced him to reveal such personal details.
As someone who knew Haywood AFTER the news broke out, and was more of a fan of RT's animated content than their Let's Plays, I didn't really have much of an attachment to Ryan as his former fans were. However, as serious and heartbreaking as the whole event is, I feel like this violates the No Real Life Examples, Please! policy by virtue of not only doing a breakdown of an unscripted event (the heartbroken reactions of Ryan's coworkers, the removing of Haywood's contributions to RT, Jack desperately trying to take of his wife in light of the incident) that had nothing to do with the LP's themselves outside of making Ryan's Comedic Sociopathy in those videos retroactively abhorrent and discomforting, but also having examples that skew uncomfortably to Rule of Cautious Editing Judgement territory (such as bringing up his family getting the brunt of online harassment after the news broke). And yet somehow this example managed to stay on that page for three years without anyone questioning if it should be allowed on there in the first place. It's like putting the widespread condemnation of Elliot Gindi after his misconduct allegations came to light on Genshin Impact's Tear Jerker page despite the controversy having no affect on the story itself.
I remember someone on the "Moments" thread mentioning that RL examples should be allowed on Tear Jerker pages for Let's Plays, but I'm not sure if they changed their mind on that idea or not. What should be done of this?
EDIT: Fixed grammar and spelling mistakes.
Edited by ToonAbbyopenCharacter Derailment misuse
Luke Skywalker from The Last Jedi was added back to CharacterDerailment.Film despite it having a commented out note at top of the page not to add them.
I first deleted it and added the note per ATT
as it was objectively misused. Derailment is about unexplained, not unpopular changes and TLJ clearly showed and explained why he did such, so the complains around that fall under other items. Also Luke nearly killed Vader in a similar Moment of Weakness in ROTJ (why that was uncontroversial is a separate thing) so the the argument behind the Derailment entry is factually incorrect.
Have to ask here before re-removing. Derailment can still apply if fans see the reason as objectively insufficient to explain the change so might that apply here?
On the subject:
- Avengers: Endgame - or more specifically, the plot point of Steve Rogers staying in the past - is infamous for this among some critics and/or fanfic writers, saying it's selfish and him abandoning his best friend Bucky. Of course, there are also a number of people who say he deserved that ending.
Besides the last part arguing against, he got a sub-plot building up to/explaining why he did so. I'll cut this unless I hear anything.
openPassive-aggressive editing
Hello. I've noticed some questionable edits that troper Ymirsdaughter has been making to Perverse Sexual Lust. They clearly have an agenda to get the trope renamed, which is not a bad thing in and of itself - I myself would like to see it renamed - but their approach to this is to edit passive-aggressive remarks about the current name into the page description and their own Troper page. Is there a policy for dealing with this type of behaviour?

- Edit Reason: If you believe the new images do not fit the page than feel free to make an Image Pickin' thread to argue your case, but at the moment it seems silly to revert them back without doing so. Every other image on this page was added with the Image Pickin Thread being needed before hand, I don't see why these should be any different unless your actually willing to explain why in a thread. If there is already a thread for UU I'd love to take part in it, but I could not find it myself.
resolved Page needs renaming
I noticed the page for Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea goes by a translation of the film's Japanese name, when in English it's known as just Ponyo. TV Tropes has a policy of going by a work's official English name whenever possible. The normal solution would of course be to manually change everything myself, but I don't know if I'll have the time or resources to do everything. Is it possible to tell a moderator to do this for me? Thanks in advance.
I should also mention the film has a bunch of subpages that go by Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea and need changing as well.
Edited by SparkPlugTheTroperresolved Problematic troper
They made SCP Chronicles and its subpages. The work page itself is stub with only two good tropes (albeit with three examples for one trope), the other are either ZCE or general example. The Characters/ and Recap/ also suffer similar problem (the have more trope examples than the main work page however, even if everything on the work page are duplicated on these subpages) plus several empty folders.
I fixed these pages per our standard procedures (commenting out ZCE, removing misuse, removing spoiler tag above examples, removing empty folders, etc.) and sent them 4 notifiers for stub, spoiler, misuse, and ZCE (the last one is from different article here
.
Sadly, they don't seems to get it
. They do fix some ZCE, but also uncommenting other ZCE and restore empty folders).
I suspect Auto-Erotic Troping. And I don't know if it's wrong, but Laconic.SCP Chronicles is word-by-word copied from Laconic.SCP Animated Tales From The Foundation.
Edited by Kuruniresolved Anti-character bias?
On Super Mario Bros., Oneperson 323 removed Princess Daisy from the listed female characters in Action Girl, without explaining why in the edit reason. I reverted the edit and sent them an Edit Reason notifier. Normally, I would have deemed the problem solved and moved on.
Except, unfortunately, I spoted this edit
where they threw a gratuitous jab at Daisy in the caption of an image (and I've just noticed that they also changed the image itself, despite having been suspended beforehand for doing unapproved image changes, also on a Mario-related page)
I'm afraid this troper's personal gripes against the character are being reflected on their edits.
EDIT: Punctuation fix.
EDIT : Spotted another problematic edit, where they deleted Princess Daisy's example
in ActionGirl.Video Games

I have a hunch M 2 Medium might be Traveler 123 aka Aces Full ban-evading. I randomly stumbled upon Traveler when browsing the TLP Community Issues thread and seeing them mentioned, and comparing Traveler and M2, there's a strange amount of overlap.
Is this just a silly series of coincidences and/or me being paranoid, or are they really the same person?
