I have questions about the rather or not the "A Certain Scientific Railgun" series actually qualifies as a spin-off of the "A Certain Magical Index" series. The anime even refers to itself as a "side story" not a spin-off, a side story being a story that is happening away from the main but can still holds importance, a spin-off is a story that spins off into another direction of the main and doesn't make much of a difference to it. Also it doesn't fit in any of the classifications of a spin-off according to its page. The closest one it fits into is the shared continuity category but with all of the defining characteristics being reversed.
1: All of the characters from the original show up in it and hold an importance to the plot.
2: The plot of both series runoff each other, Railgun has some things that look like a Deus Ex Machina that are further explained in the Index, while it also conversely gives a more clear and better understanding of the details of science side for the Index. Both are practically essential to properly understand the full extent of the overall plot of the franchise.
3: The Railgun manga was originally created for purpose of better understanding the plot, characters and timeline of the Index series while telling it through the eyes of its minor and secondary characters.
Conclusion: Wouldn't all this mean that A Certain Scientific Railgun is not a "Spin-Off" but an entire "Lower Deck Series?"
openNeed Clarification Anime
I'm still working on the Hybrid X Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia page and need clarification on the The Mirror Shows Your True Self trope.
According to the description, it seems to be strictly about mirrors only, but I've seen variants where magic caves and astral projection also reveal the true self. Hybrid x Heart's take on it uses the "Love Room" (essentially their version of a holodeck) to reflect each girl's inner kink.
So my question is: Does The Mirror Shows Your True Self allow for such variations, or is there another trope like it that does?

Is there a trope about when a character does a series of horrible things in order to make everyone hate him and then die so all the hatred dies with himself and the world can live happily ever after? I saw it in Naruto (done by Sasuke towards the end of the series) and Code Geass (By Lelouch)

Looking to launch a works page. The page itself already exists under a Japanese title, Mondaiji Tachi Ga Isekai Kara Kuru Sou Desu Yo, but I was thinking of copy & pasting everything over to a page listed under its English title (as provided by Crunchyroll) Problem Children are Coming from Another World, aren't they? with the Japanese name as a redirect. Is there anything I need to check on before I actually do it or can I just go ahead and get it done. I ran into this at least one other time and I think I was told then to just do it, but I don't want to step on any toes unnecessarily if I can help it.

For those who are familiar with Makoto Shinkai's Voices Of A Distant Star, I have an inquiry as to the usage of the tropes Time Skip.
Typically, Time Skip is used where a period of time has elapsed in-universe and the story picks up following this period. Voices Of A Distant Star presents a unique case, where the story is exchanged between a six month period (in Mikako's case) and eight years (in Noboru's case). While the story moves back and forth between two periods, the story itself does not jump over a period: hence my question as to whether or not that qualifies as a Time Skip?

Eva Unit 01 un-commented a large number of ZCE tropes on the Characters.Negima Class 3 A without adding additional context with the edit reason "some tropes, I feel, don't really NEED examples". Requesting a moderator rollback the change. I also sent him a PM about the matter, so hopefully that end will be resolved shortly.
edit: He also did the same to Characters.Negima Ala Rubra.
editedit: Stand by, talking to him right now, he might fix it himself.

There is this Naruto fanfic that really deserves a page on here. The series, posted on AO 3, is called “The Sea Never Dies” by Fires From Our Hearts. There are several “books” in the series; the first two are completed, an interim book is a bunch of short stories and oneshots canon to the fanfic, the third book is currently being updated, and the fourth will come when the third book is completed. The fanfic is really incredible, and I’d love to see a page for it on here. Is there a different way I can recommend someone create one, or should I just do it myself? How would I even get started?

I wasn't sure where else to put this, but given the potential edit war scenario that could come about, I thought I'd at least try here first.
Anyway, I think it's time to figure out what to do about the naming consistencies when it comes to Naruto. The character sheets (where I spend most of my time) alone are a mess when it comes to using naming conventions, and some pages aren't even consistent with themselves. For example, the same folder uses Mokuton (direct romanji), Wood Release (literal translation and what the Wiki uses), and Wood Style (official English translation). I'd really rather not just decide by myself carte blanche which version to use. In the interest of cutting off an edit war before it even starts, what do you guys suggest I do?

I was looking to make a page for the recent movie on Netflix called 'Sound & Fury': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_%26_Fury_(Sturgill_Simpson_album)
Two things, the first being that Netflix shows the full title as being "Sturgill Simpson Presents Sound & Fury", should that be the full title or can I shorten it to just "Sound & Fury"
Secondly, it seems it won't let me make a page with an ampersand in the title though pages like Franklin And Bash have the URL with 'and' but the page itself shows '&', and I'm not sure how to do that.

Dark Hero 9 seems to have a Single-Issue Wonk in regards to an example of The Dog Shot First in the Updated Re-release of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. In the original, Kira (The Hero) kills Nichol (a member of the Five Bad Band) in self-defense when Nichol ambushes him. In the remake, Kira simply dodges Nichol's attack, and Nichol dies by accidentally impaling himself on Kira's Laser Blade.
Seems like a pretty textbook example of The Dog Shot First, but Dark Hero 9 has removed it a half-dozen times across both the Gundam Seed and The Dog Shot First pages in two different incidents (first on October 12th last year, then again on February 7th this year), insisting that it's not an example.
Seems like a really stupid thing to get in an edit war over, but that's where it's heading.

There was this guy who wanted to defeat some evil. So, for that he needed to train himself so he used to go to different different people who taught him how to fight and concentrate to defeat the guy. I remember one seen where he was with his master and the master asked him to focus and listen to the water drops falling somewhere. That was the place where they used to train. If anyone knows what I am talking about them please please please let me know.

I am to take it that personal opinion on wiki pages is discouraged, if not prohibited? This question is prompted by the presence of a bullet-point concerning existentialism on the Sora No Woto page, which states as follows:
An overarching theme of the show is how people give meaning to their lives, from religion to sticking up for their True Companions or their country in the face of a neutral, cold universe. The episodes where this is more blatant are episode seven and the last DVD episode (in particular Rio's final voice-over). Filicia Heideman in particular is a textbook case of The Anti-Nihilist.
I saw two problems with the bullet and removed it, with the edit reason that existentialism is more opinion-driven when applied to anime, and as such, would better be suited for a review. I feel the problems can be summarised as 1) it is not a matter of correctness (as everyone is free to interpret an anime as they will), but rather, the imposition of a particular viewpoint in the wiki itself and 2) the work in question is not solidly about existentialism; the events that appear as 'existentialist' elements are open to interpretation.
That's the background: what are the usual guidelines for things like that?

I just came back from being edit banned for one apparent 'vandalism'. It's fully my fault, but I want to make sure this never happens again. This encompasses many pages in Names To Know In Anime, Voice Actors, Actors, etc.
Well it started with me thinking that Ryusei Nakao's page has headers and footers completely taken straight from Frieza's quotes, no reference to this wiki, or the very person himself, etc. However, if we look at other pages like Toru Ohira, the dub voice of Darth Vader, it refers to this wiki, the actor's role and the related actors. Rather than "Obi-Wan never told you what happened to your father", the one used is "Toshiyuki Morikawa never told you how I described your father" (Toshiyuki Morikawa being the dub voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi). I thought it was good.
So I decided to edit Ryusei Nakao, changing the header with what used to be his footer (The quote about him destroying the Saiyan planet), but changed it that it refers to this site... unfortunately I used the words 'Fast Eddie' and 'Moderators' (rather than the seiyuus of Dodoria and Zarbon (the latter being Show Hayami)). That's my first crime.
Then for the footer, I decided to use Mayuri Kurotsuchi's long-winded "The Reason You Suck" Speech and changed it rather than about 'science' but more about tropes. Unfortunately, I got all those long-winded speech into an All Blue Entry. That's... the second and final crime that got me eventually banned.
I've applied for editing again and right now I need to know where the line must be drawn when we're doing (voice) actor references like this. To note, there are also Self-Demonstrating Article in regards of Voice Actors, mostly in anime, for instance, Michael Mc Connohie, Kazuhiko Inoue, Akio Ohtsuka, Rikiya Koyama, Nozomu Sasaki, etc. If such self-demonstrating was not allowed, I should begin a reverting spree to make it not self-demonstrating.
But yeah, please tell me where the line should be drawn about these things. Thank you.

I have a certain issue with the Fullmetal Alchemist example on Devil, but No God, it seems to miss the point of the trope, and seems to misunderstand the term "God" just to refer to the stereotypical "Kindly old man" figure that Christianity tends to present, when the term is actually a lot more broad then that, and Truth is acknowledged to be the God of the FMA universe. The example would be better in God and Satan Are Both Jerks.
I'd remove it myself, but I'd like to ask for a second opinion here before doing so.
So, what do you guys think? Should I remove it? Leave as it is? What?

While adding an entry to Cross Player, I noticed that several entries for the .hack animes were in the video game folder. While moving them to the correct places, and adding namespaced links because they weren't there already, I discovered something odd.
The .hack//Roots anime doesn't actually have a page. I wouldn't sweat this normally, just add a Anime/DotHackRoots redlink and let wiki magic to the rest (I don't know the series well enough myself to trope it). That's when I saw it didn't redlink. Looking into that, it took me to an "inexact title" page w here I discovered while there's no page for the anime, there is a Tearjerker.Dot Hack Roots connected to both the main TearJerker.Anime And Manga page and to TearJerker.Dot Hack.
Given that there's no work page for it to go with, I was thinking Cut the Tearjerker.Dot Hack Roots while moving the content over to a folder in TearJerker.Dot Hack so it isn't just lost and can possibly be moved later if a .hack//Roots page does come up later. However, I wanted to double check that this was the right process or that there wasn't some other step I should look into before submitting the page to be Cut.

Is Bait-and-Switch Lesbians really a non-YMMV trope? it seems too opinionated to be on a main page like this. It was actually the first entry posted on the page itself, before the trope was even made! :\

I did a search for the doujin Emergence (also known as Metamorphosis) just out of curiosity in order to see what kind of tropes you were able to find within it... and I noticed that there wasn't a page for it. I was considering making a page for it due to it being a massive case Porn with Plot, especially since it is a rather noticeable doujin, having its own Know Your Meme page and everything, but I wasn't sure about it due to the rules about adult content here. If you've read it, then you know what I'm talking about.
I did read through the guidelines about your restrictions on covering H-content, including the rules created by 5P, but I wasn't really able to come to a decision by myself due to the fact that there are some pages about h-content while others get immediately nuked, so I figured that I'd post a thread here to ask if a page for this doujin would be acceptable before I make a page for it myself.
