openDILP/RTDE misuse, possible misuse?
The only items under YMMV.The Review Team, YMMV.Abuse Of Power MHA, YMMV.FUDW, YMMV.Harry Potter And The Endless Night are misuse of Draco in Leather Pants and Ron the Death Eater, which only apply to the source material subject to such not specific works doing it like these. Just heads up before removing.
YMMV.Ask Princess Molestia has a DLIP I question if applicable given the contentious nature of the work (which ran right as such content was becoming seen a no longer acceptable).
- Condemned by History: At the time of its introduction around 2011, the blog became very popular (reaching ~ 68,600 followers by its closure in 2014) for its artwork, regular updates, absurd premise, and saucy comedy. By 2013, growing backlash against the Ron the Death Eater treatment of Princess Celestia and works that were seen as normalizing sexual harassment, molestation, and assault by treating it as a joke led to the "Down With Molestia" movement where so many turned against the blog that it abruptly shut down a year later. Nowadays, no one remembers the blog or the eponymous character very fondly, with its only saving graces being the character of Gamer Luna and the artwork. Asking it it was popular at time enough to count despite subject, and if retroactive popularity changes effect Designated Hero or Draco in Leather Pants. And does "normalize" mean Do Not Do This Cool Thing as attempts to treat as wrong were undercut by treating it as entertainment?
- Designated Hero: Many fans consider Molestia's character to be more fitting as a villain or at the very least an anti-hero considering what she does on her prime time and how she often acts insincere and selfish. Yet many of her friends treat her like a hero and it's not hard to see why at times. Last part sorta argues with itself. But if fans do hate her for such that's opposite of DILP. Maybe Unintentionally Unsympathetic better fit as she was meant to be deliberately flawed for such?
- Draco in Leather Pants: A lot of fans will quickly dismiss Molly's actions as being harmless and just tame despite Molly on certain crossovers have kidnapped and implied to have sexually assaulted a Fluffy Pony, chubby pony, or others, and on certain occasions depending on the writing to have genuinely treated and/or abused her guards, most of her friends including her own sister, and others like her own personal sex objects and nothing more without remorse or empathy, most of the time. Seems more like narrative whitewashing her than fans, who hated it to point of getting work canceled.
openWhy is Homegrown Hero a YMMV Trope?
Homegrown Hero seems to be about something that's pretty objective; if anything, it feels like it'd be pretty well suited for being a Trivia trope. Yet it's listed as an YMMV trope, and nothing on the page itself really feels like it explains why that is.
openDoes The Scrappy apply to the following situations or are they misuse?
1. A character from the disliked series of a beloved franchise who is hated mainly by fans of the franchise as a whole. 2. Cases of Adaptational Scrappy. The Scrappy wiki has an entire category for characters who are only disliked in a certain adaptation, but the rules between that site and this wiki seem to be different.
I have a feeling they're misuse, but I need confirmation.
To bring some examples from YMMV.Xiaolin Chronicles:
- Ping Pong. He is by far the most hated character of all the fanbase, due to his freakishly similar resemblance to Omi, high-pitched voice, and how he is a completely worthless replacement for the Ensemble Dark Horse that is Jermaine.
- Dojo gained a bit of detestation mostly due to the exaggeration of his relationship with Master Fung, particularly his lamenting of being separated from him. While in the original series he could at least pull himself together afterwards, here he shuts down altogether, usually at the worst time for the monks. There’s also the copious amount of gross-out humor and gags he’s subjected to.
- This version of Chase Young is far more despised by fans than his original series self due to being just a generic villain who lacks the charm of the original, his disturbing flirtatious relationship with Shadow, and his retconned backstory. Any popularity he had is further damaged by the episode "Chase Lays an Egg", where he does exactly what the title says.
openTrying to add an Incredibles/MHA crossover page Anime
Hello, I think this fanfiction is worthy of having its own page:
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13466524/1/My-Incredible-Academia
as well as being mentioned in fanfic recs/fan works for both MHA and Incredibles in the crossover section but I'm not sure how to do it myself. Even though I go on Tv Tropes a lot I have only recently made my own account so still getting to grips with it. I could do with some help please.
openUniverse and Book With Same Name Literature
i've been trying to flesh out some pages for You Could Make a Life, which is a literature universe. it's a very large verse full of 16 (and counting) novels that share characters and settings, with frequent crossover between them all & a firmly established canon. some works are published via traditional self-publishing, and others are posted online using Archive of our Own. while they are in the same universe, they are not all part of the same series, and there are many different series within it.
the issue i've run into while making pages is that the universe shares the same name as the first novel in the series, You Could Make a Life by Taylor Fitzpatrick.
i would like to make a page for the universe itself, separate from the novel You Could Make a Life. does anyone know how i should go about this? i'm currently working off You Could Make a Life. thank you!
openDoes this count as a Canon Foreigner?
The manga Reiri follows the final days of the Takeda Clan between 1579 and 1582. As such, nearly every major character is a real historical figure. The sole exception is the eponymous heroine herself, Reiri, who had her hand in the manga's version of several historical events. Does this count as a Canon Foreigner or no?

openMario Strikers Videogame
From Funny.Mario Strikers I’m not sure which game these moments below come from. Does anyone know? I wasn’t sure where to go to ask this.
- First off, everyone, and we mean EVERYONE takes the game so seriously. So when they’re losing, they’re all freaking out.
- Mario in utter despair
- Luigi getting a twitchy eye
- Peach, as much of a sweetheart as she is, throws a tantrum like a spoiled brat.
- Waluigi mocking the other team.
- Wario saying “I give up” before blowing himself up.
- Bowser setting his own team on fire.
- Wario is a walking example of this.
- Wario's home entrance
in Mario Strikers Charged: He starts off in the same spread-out skydiving pose as most of the other characters, except that he's singing his theme in time with the actual music. But when it comes time for him to switch to a position that would facilitate a "safe" landing, he instead maintains the skydiving pose and slams into the ground gut-first (which also prompts his theme to stop), after which he looks up and glares at the ball.
- While we are on the subject of his theme...
- "Butt smash!"
- Gas Mask, and the opponents' reactions to it
.
Mario: Oh, Wario! *cough*
- Wario's home entrance
- Waluigi has quite a palette.
"Aw, Wario! *cough* Ugh, you're killing me!"
- Waluigi has quite a palette.
- Even Wario himself has a few comments on it: "Excellent vintage," for instance.
- Try using Bowser's Fire Storm on the resulting cloud of gas. This is what happens.
- His frustration when the opponents get a goal. Particularly when he ends up wrestling and beating up the ball... and it blows up in his face.
- "Keep throwing me!"
- Even his Mega Strike is hilarious. He inflates like a balloon and blows the ball at the goal.
- One of his victory animations has the camera on his backside as he laughs while it goes up to his face, giving a thumbs-up and say his name. In slow-motion for some reason.
- Wario doesn't howl in pain if he's electrocuted in the first game. Instead, he screams "OOOOH YEEEESSS!"
- Waluigi's theme.
- "Want the ball? Eh? HERE!". The dancing he does after slamming the ball into his opponent's face is priceless.
- Waluigi´s hilariously silly and childish animations when he loses.
- While most of the characters look cool and controlled during their descent in the home entrances, Waluigi's entrance
has him screaming all the way down.
- Waluigi's crotch chop
. He even has a variation where he starts to do it, only to wag his finger and say "ah, ah, ah!"
- Boo attempting to do Waluigi's crotch chop despite lacking both a crotch and arms long enough to do the motion in the first place, resulting in a rather goofy-looking nod.
- Daisy giving her team the evil eye
after letting the opponent get a goal in. Even funnier is how even Dry Bones is afraid of her.
- Bowser setting his team on fire for letting a goal in. Even funnier is that one of his teammates does the 'Stop, drop and roll' motion to put it out.
- Peach sometimes gets angry at her team for letting a ball in and stomps up and down in a tantrum. While amusing in itself, Birdo's reaction
is just comedy gold.
- Petey Piranha just swaggin' after scoring a goal. And for his visitor entrance.
- Petey eating one of the opposing teammates for scoring a goal while everyone else runs away screaming.
- Petey doing the limbo after scoring. Nevermind where Petey found the random scrap to make said limbo set.
- DK randomly punching the camera over in his exuberance.
- Waluigi does the same thing out of anger when the other team scores, while saying "cheese!"
- Luigi's Airplane Arms.
- Yoshi chasing his tail is both funny and adorable.
- When Diddy Kong scores a goal, he does a little victory dance, then stops and grins sheepishly when he realizes that everyone is watching.
- Dry Bones celebrating a goal by doing the worm. Their head ends up falling off.
- Bowser Jr., when frustrated, goes to kick one of the goalposts, only to stub his toe on it when he tries.
openCritcism???
So I added my first ever example to the Crack Fic page and I want some critcism. I added Carousel: A Dream Journal to the other folder :3 You can point out a few spelling mistakes and things like natter and tell me what to do to fix them. Just don't add links to the characters because they are ocs. Ik i sometimes name them after something as a shout out but i would add that myself if it happens.
Also how do I make a new page???
Btw the author for the fic is me, I tried my best to NOT try when writing it because hey, my brain doesn't try to make the dreams coherent ether. In fact, it was MEANT to be unfunny :D
(Sorry for bad grammar, I'm not English :( )
resolved general site forum
I want to express my feelings about a grievance I have with a particular page (which I am in the process of fixing right now). Is there a forum where we talk about the site itself or something like that?
resolved Character reversion for The Pitt Live Action TV
Regarding an edit on characters for The Pitt ( https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/ThePitt2025
) . I wish to revert or if possible modify a character edit. Regarding characters tropes I believe we post both strengths and weaknesses of character to paint a full picture of said character. But feel the current edits for Doctor Landon tend to seem to attempt to protect the character from any negative aspects. To note , I am not seeking to bash said character.
Original version
- Believing Their Own Lies: Tries to convince Robby that the pain-meds his stolen does not impair his judgement or reasoning at all. However during his shift he did try to throw an attending under the bus to protect himself and was stealing and diluting much needed hospital supplies before the shift. At the end of the shift, he desperately tried to manipulate two colleagues Robby and Dana who respect him, to ignore his condition
Revised version
- Believing Their Own Lies: Tries to convince Robby that the Librium he stole does not impair his judgement or reasoning at all and that he only needs them to wean off his addiction. Robby immediately calls him out for not taking the proper steps to treat his withdrawal symptoms, bluntly laying out that he could be facing felony charges for his diversion.
The second version seemingly softens Langdon actions and ramifications of his actions. As well as the problems with the actions that he took and the consequences of them. As in the lie he tells himself is not that he needs to wean himself off the pills, but the lie is the pill affect his behaviour , ie stealing needed medication to feed his need.
Original version
- Never My Fault: Unfortunately as an addict he views his thefts as necessary. Refuses to accept he may have a problem and when forced to go into rehab and face being reported as having a drug problem tries to paint it as Robby over-reacting instead of a genuine issue due to his addiction.
Revised version
- Never My Fault: Unfortunately Langdon refuses to take responsibility over his addiction, believing that he only needs the benzos to wean off his dependence on pain meds.
Removes how Langdon acts as its NeverMyFault by removing what he is refusing to accept fault for. Seemingly makes it about his addiction and not a) the thefts he committed to feed the addiction or b) is refusal to accept fault for his actions and having a blowout over it.
Original version
- Kick the Dog: When Robby refuses to ignore Langdon's addiction and thefts. Decides to report the incident and offer to get Landon into rehab. Langdon instead of being grateful, throws the gesture in his face stating that Robby has no right to judge claiming he is as messed up as he is bringing up Robby PTSD and breakdown earlier that night. Robby who is emotionally and physically raw from end of the shift , can only walk away disappointed in his former friend.
Revised version
- Kick the Dog: When Robby gives Langdon the ultimatum of going to rehab instead of losing his license, Langdon throws the gesture in his face by stating that Robby has no right to judge since he's claiming "as messed up as he is" because of his meltdown in Pedes from earlier. Robby pointedly tells Langdon that he's the one that screwed up massively.
Again , cuts away why the example exists in order to make the character less abrasive or damaged as is. In way to prevent the character from seeming unlikable.
Original version
- Functional Addict: Langdon is addicted to Librium, a benzodiazepine, to the point of filching pills from the prescription of one of the hospital's "frequent flyer" patients. When Robby finds out, he makes an extremely poor attempt at defending himself when confronted with Santos' suspicion that he's stealing other medications on top of it. Despite this, he is still an outstandingly competent doctor, a point which he himself brings up when confronted by Robby. Despite this , Robby correctly forces him to go into treatment as Langdon is in denial about his problem. As he is actively stealing medication from patients in pain, and his argument and his argument he just need the pain-meds to get off his pill-addiction is him ignoring the seriousness of his problem
Revised version
- Functional Addict: Langdon is addicted to Librium, a benzodiazepine, to the point of filching pills from the prescription of one of the hospital's "frequent flyer" patients. When Robby finds out, he makes an extremely poor attempt at defending himself when confronted with Santos' suspicion that he's stealing other medications on top of it. Despite this, he is still an outstandingly competent doctor, a point which he himself brings up when confronted by Robby. However, Robby has to give him an ultimatum of going to rehab or face losing his medical license.
Leaves out the serious issue that Langdon is stealing pain meds from patients in pain and causing risks to other patients. Another issue it attempts to downplay the act and his issues via the statement “Despite this, he is still an outstandingly competent doctor, a point which he himself brings up when confronted by Robby.” Seemingly excusing his 'filching' because he hasn't screwed up medically , yet.
Original version
- Took a Level in Jerkass: An unfortunate side effect of addiction is the inability to accept that he has a problem and take to desperate measures to protect himself from consequence. From trying to paint Santos genuine concerns as false accusations from a new resident that most people don't like. To desperately trying to compare his pill -addiction to Robby's PTSD in order to gain sympathy , which forces Robby to walk away from him in disbelief. To trying to convince Dana who is having her own traumatic day that Robby judgement is in question and needs her to have his back despite his own erratic behavior.
New Version
- Took a Level in Jerkass: An unfortunate side effect of Langdon's addiction is his inability to accept that he has a problem, taking desperate measures to protect himself from consequences. The peak of this comes when Langdon tries to tell Robby to ignore his addiction since the latter is "just as screwed up" as he is because of his breakdown towards the end of "7:00 PM". Clearly, this does not go over well with Robby.
'The second version leaves out what desperate measures Langdon took making it a ZCE and again unnecessarily saving the character from any sort of criticism. Not looking to bash said character but the second example says they took a level without explaining ‘’how’’ they Took a Level in Jerkass. As well as neutering the confrontation he had with Robby
Again I am not attempting to bash the character. Have noted that a character should express both negative and positive aspects of a character. I just feel that the new edits seemingly go out of its way to “clean” up the character. Which doesn’t seem an issue when less popular characters like Santos is concerned. If reversion to its original version is not advised is there any suggestion to make the examples more nuanced?
resolved How do you put new funny moments into an index? Web Original
I just made a new list of funny moments for Matt Rose, because it's new it hasn't been adding to the web video funny moments index. How do I do that? I tried to search TV Tropes for the answer and got nothing and there isn't an option on that page itself to simply click on or select something then add the hyperlink.

I have made an article on The Prince and the Pauper from 2007.

openWas Homer meant to be unsympathetic in "Homer The Herectic" Western Animation
Found this in the Unintentionally Sympathetic Western Animation subpage
Homer again in "Homer the Heretic." He opts to stay home from church one Sunday and when Marge and the kids go without him, he revels in having the house to himself for the first time in years. He enjoys it so much that he decides to stop going to church altogether. Marge, Flanders, and Reverend Lovejoy all try to get Homer to start attending services again, and he even dreams of being confronted by God himself. However, when you stop to think that Homer's duties as a full-time worker, husband, and father mean that he is never alone, it's hard to blame him for wanting just a few hours of me-time each week. And considering that when he does go to church, he often sleeps through the sermon (including at the end of the episode when he's convinced to go back), he's clearly not getting anything out of it anyway.
I don't really think Homer was meant to be in the wrong for not wanting to go to church considering that God actually seemed lenient about it.
Also, i think Homer kind of won against them by sleeping through Timothy's sermon at the end.
resolved Troper with persist ZCE issue
They first come to my attention with this edit
, which they added several empty folders and one pure ZCE (trope without example}.
The next day, they uncommented
several Palette Swap without adding proper context, talking about the origin of enteies instead of explaning why they are examples of the trope (which, I think most are misused considered how different they were in said origins).
The next, they uncommented another ZCE
, with the context relies on other works and not how it is applies to the subject work. Another edit before that one
, they uncommented The Rival while listed several similarities between two characters, but not mentioned the characters rivalry at all.
I sent three notifiers, one for each of these edit.
Today, they added another
, preemptive commented out. Which seems to be their current pattern
.
openVery self-congratulatory work pages...
The TV Tropes Character Crossover War has several sub-pages like trivia and ymmv, and several of their most frequent editors are people who were already on TV Tropes. And frankly I'm a bit uncomfortable reading these and seeing how self-indulgent and passive-aggressive towards this platform they seem to be, as they're utilizing multiple tropes like Take That! and Executive Meddling to describe TV Tropes and to voice the aforementioned tropers' disagreements with site policy - which means they are effectively troping themselves. Is stuff like this even allowed?
A few examples of this:
- Author's Saving Throw: Despite their frustrations with TV Tropes booting them off the platform and banning the self demonstrating pages from having non-canon interactions, the authors behind the fic came to embrace the opportunity to improve upon the smaller, script-based format into a larger, more-in-depth narrative format.
- One challenge the writers faced was being limited to the characters with self demonstrating pages being the primary focus, only being able to include characters with some interfranchise or vague connection. By being moved off, the board was clear to add in whoever the writers wanted, expand further on the lore, and make changes to the story that made more sense for their new narrative. This extended to the addition of entire universes, most notably with Shrek and Breaking Bad, along with MrBeast as an additional Joke Character.
- Executive Meddling:
- As the story initially started out on TV Tropes itself, the writers were about nearly complete with most of the pre-Night Parade recruitments when the website moderators deemed the fic could no longer be hosted on the site, forcing it to be moved off-site.
- Shortly thereafter, the moderators almost got rid of the self-demonstrating pages altogether, but after a massive backlash towards eliminating the concept, they instead declared that none of the interactions were to remain (sans between those who had actually met in canon) — aka much of the basis of the fic in the first place. The writing team responded by mocking this decision repeatedly, which the moderation team did not respond to in kind (causing author chris4449 to get bounced from the site).
- Writer Revolt: After the TV Tropes moderators forced the story off the website and banned all non-canon interactions between the self demonstrating pages, the writers subsequently began openly criticizing this decision through the story itself (chiefly through Deadpool).
- Growing the Beard: By the writing team’s own admission, while they had fun with creating the original story, they always felt constrained by their original format in order to keep it as true to TV Tropes as possible. When the story was forced to move, the team took the opportunity to completely transform the story into something they felt eclipsed what they had originally created.
resolved Misclassified as American series
@SpongeBobFan2005 keeps adding Strawberry Shortcake: Berry in the Big City to AmericanSeries.Animation, even though BITBC is exclusively made in Canada. I tried explaining this to him multiple times, but he keeps adding it with the flimsy excuse of “it was put on Youtube/Netflix which are American”. I already let myself get dragged into an edit war with him and I’m not doing it again, so can someone tell me what to do about this?

There's this game called The Boba Tea Shop which is a horror game where you play as the owner of a boba shop. I tried searching it on tv tropes if there's a page abt it but there wasn't so I was wondering if I could create the page myself if it's okay
