openZero content
I may have gone on a rampage a little bit when editing the Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character page but there were some many entries that were like half assed and a few that were okay but still needed a little more info. For example these two: Am I wrong that I think there should be more than that in the entry? I'm sorry that I keep second guessing myself but I have been on this site for years so I know that Zero content is a prevalent problem and I don't want to be wrong.
openStrike Witches YMMV page Anime
Just noticed that the broken base section of strike witches has a massive paragraph that, to my knowledge, belongs in base breaking character and also has a ton of natter. I genuinely think it should be cleaned up. The section I refer to is:
However as far as Hikari goes their has been some occasional disengagements of wither she is an actually good, fleshed out character in her own right that is distinct from Yoshika or if she's just "Yoshika 2.0" (the latter group seems to have mostly died off post release of Brave Witches and even even those few hold outs are as visible and seem to not have sufficient thesis to back such claims up). An additional point of contention with fans is wither Yoshika herself actually is or isn't a Mary Sue. Those who argue she isn't is due to the fact that while Yoshika's magic powers are of greater potential then average; they were unrefined and untrained and Yoshika was faced with sufficient challenges and had to work hard to improve her control of her magic and training as air infantry to become as competent and then as badass as the rest of the 501st, as well as the fact that nothing about Yoshika's magic was not outside of the the ordinary or expected of witches magic in the series. Those who claim she is a Mary Sue argue more to her idealistic personality and the fact her magic returned to her by the end of the movie; however the former tends to be a rather dubious argument and a counterargument to the latter is that witches are known to experience draining of their magical stamina whenever they exert themselves and their magic and thus require time to recuperate with food, water and rest and only older witches seem to experience various degrees of magical entropy or outright loss; and given that at the end of Season 2 Yoshika was still in her prime magically speaking and used a magical sword technique that she barely had enough proper sword training for and how no real magical training done for; it caused her to do the magical equivalent of pulling a muscle and needed a much longer period of time to recover the magical stamina, and likely didn't have a chance to test her magic recovery by the time movie came around until the very end in a serious crisis situation and feeling the inspired desire to fly with her friends again.
Edited by RAHDRONopenRWBY Edit War (again)
Okay, we've had on the Team RWBY character page a discussion here
about whether Blake is Bi The Way or Ambiguously Bi (or some other trope). Some people think she's in love with Yang and some people think it's just two girls who have a very close platonic relationship. Yes, it's a shipping war.
The original Edit War appeared to be solved when Zaptech told the warring parties to go to the discussion page and (at the same time) I took the edit war to the Is This an Example? thread. A weak consensus appeared to form that Bi The Way should be used, so that's what I put on the character page. That immediately caused ructions and led to edits that I flagged in ATT here
.
At the time, the Bi The Way decision had been based on inaccurate information but I didn't know that at time, which is why there were ructions over the Bi The Way decision. Given that information, it seemed fair for the discussion to continue on the character discussion page. I'm not a shipper, I don't care what trope they decide to use, I'm just trying to stop the Edit War over it. So, I suggested that, if they can't agree on whether Blake's bisexuality is confirmed or not, they should just settle for Ambiguously Bi as a compromise.
uni_sonic
has added that trope to the character page on the grounds that it's a compromise, but no-one has actually agreed with my suggestion so there's no current consensus for it. ZhaneX24
has reverted uni_sonic's changes on those grounds. Which means that we're back to an Edit War.
The shippers clearly can't decide this. A neutral troper like myself clearly isn't helping either. Please can a moderator enter this discussion
and help the fandom reach a decision?
openDoubts for when to use Alas poor villain
I was wondering: When does an antagonist qualify for Alas poor villain? Does It need to be invoked by someone in the series itself or it:when's simply When the viewers pity them? It's because the full metal alchemist manga/ Brotherhood homunculi has gotten a ton that, no offense feel more like whitelisting Than Alas, Poor Villain
Edited by RAHDRONopenUser Bat committing vandalism
Hey, all. This user Bat
seems to be blanking entire articles aimed at works by myself and the trope Scraggle. He is also going through entire articles and removing any references to our works through the wiki proper, such as on Badass Gay, Master Swordsman, Foregone Conclusion, etc. This seems quite deliberate and targeted.
I am like 99 percent sure this is the banned user Utter Koala, btw.
Edited by LightysnakeopenUnfinished subpages Literature
Characters.Alex Rider was split into multiple subpages, but the creator of the subpages hardly bothered to move content that used to be in the main character page to their appropriate, respective subpages.
I'd fix it myself, but I'm uncertain which goes where as I haven't actively kept up with the series in a long while.

Well, there is this example of a tear-jerker from Barenaked Ladies.
It's been one week since you looked at me, Dropped your arms to the side and said, "I'm sorry". Five days since I laughed at you and said, "You just did just what I thought you were gonna do." Three days since the living room, We realized we're both to blame, but what could we do? Yesterday you just smiled at me, 'Cause it'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
Now there are two reasons why this is not a tear jerker.
- Because this song is, well, happy and not intending to take itself seriously.
- Even if this was a heart-felt piano ballad, these lyrics are literally about a couple saying "sorry". I can find examples in the same song that are sadder. Or at least could be about domestic abuse.
Should I delete it?
Edited by Playing_with_boyopenReport (Speculation)
I am engaged in a debate with a fellow troper named Emberfist about the Live-Action TV section of Idiot Plot. The subsection in particular is Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. As of late, Emberfist's justifications as to why the subsection should remain there are based off assumptions and oversimplifications. I provide detailed explanations as to why these opinions are incorrect and do not belong (you can check out the Discussion Page for yourself). He does little to rebut my statements, simply paraphrasing and rephrasing the same argument. He intends to keep all the examples, despite another Troper having arguing against them for the reasons I listed. I have tried to compromise; offering to delete the most egregious examples and move the rest to the YMMV subsection. Emberfist will not listen.
Because I wish to avoid Edit-Warring, I have chosen not to directly edit the page myself and will instead to defer to you guys.
What should I do?
openHow Ron the Death Eater works
Question: I'm a little confused as to why the Ron the Death Eater page demands fanfic examples.
My line of thought:
1 The page is inconsistent about it. Some examples give no fanfics as proof 2 If the RDE-ing of a character is common enough, finding a fic as proof just feels like picking on one particular author amongst a crowd. This goes double for characters who are commonly bashed/hated because of ships, etc etc. as fics subjectng them to Ron the Death Eater will be ten a penny. 3 It's also not the only place that RDE-ing of a character will take place - any debate thread on social media/forums is bound to give rise to this in one form or another 4 Its equivalent, Draco in Leather Pants, doesn't require examples, even though its the mirror image of RDE.
Is there a reason fanfics are required as proof? If there is, then it needs more enforcement on the page itself (some video game entries have no proof example given) and if not then they should be reworded to general entries.
openIndex help
Supporting The Monster Loved One
is ready to launch, but I'm not sure what indexes to put it on. Obviously I don't want to launch with no indexes for it, so I'm looking for suggestions. I asked on the draft itself and got no reply, and the thread for this is too slow, so I'm asking here.
Update: I think I'm good, people at the TLP gave me some good index ideas.
Edited by WarJay77open 80s 0r 90s show in Australia Live Action TV
This is a question annoying a friend. Her whole family remember a show in the early 90s/late 80s about a rock that swallows people. The show was in Australia. I don't know if it was one episode of a show. Or a show all by itself. They said it was pretty scary but a kids show. Are they making this up? I can't find any reference to this
openShould I cut this
So a Troper named CountDorku on the Distinction Without a Difference page * "A common pattern among far-right Youtube channels is to make a big deal out of the tiny differences between the specific far-right subset said channel belongs to and other groups of far-right Youtube channels. The difference between a racist authoritarian calling himself a "race realist", a racist authoritarian calling himself a "classical liberal", and a racist authoritarian who openly identifies as a neo-Nazi can cause massive fights within the far-right community, even as the very similar political goals and talking points mean they all dissolve into a bigoted blur from the perspective of anyone further left than Joseph McCarthy." I am considering cutting and this because it doesn't seem like an example (seems more fitting for We ARE Struggling Together.) and Rule of Cautious Editing Judgement but I want a second opinion to avoid an edit war.
Edited by EmberfistopenAm I the only one that feels that call of duty zombies YMMV Page needs cleanup Videogame
Link here https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/YMMV/CallOfDutyZombies
Ok, let's not beat around the bush: this YMMV Page is kinda messy: It has chevkov's gun in this section for some reason... It Also has a few "as noted above/as noted below" that end Up being confusing as heck. And things like this:
Scrappy Weapon: The SMR, with excellent reason. Bad power, low capacity, arduous reload speed, semi-automatic and worst of all, it has a glitch that makes aiming down the sights exactly the same as hip firing, giving it almost nonexistent accuracy. It was never even patched during the lifetime of Black Ops II. Yeah, good luck aiming down the sights across 50 feet. After an update, the SMR FINALLY started to redeem itself in its Pack-a-Punched form, which gained improved accuracy. The Springfield, a weapon so weak it can't even one-shot a zombie in the chest on round 1. That in itself is inexcusable, but even worse is that the ironsights are off, requiring you to aim slightly to the left of what you want to shoot, otherwise you'll miss. On that note, the Kar98k. The only two things it has over the Springfield are that it can be bought off the wall on most Wa W maps for 200 points, and it doesn't have misaligned ironsights. Other than that, it's just as pathetic. Go ahead, try Pack-a-Punching it. It'll totally be worthy of the name Armageddon. In general a good chunk of starter weapons become this, due to fact that they become weaker as time goes on..
Sadly, I have barely any knowledge about call of duty zombies' story or Gameplay. If someone that was familiar with this series could help... It would be appreciated. Maybe splitting the YMMV page in two could also help
Edited by RAHDRONopenHelp with a TLP Draft
I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place for this, but my other ideas, the "Is This An Example?" and "Improving work and creator page descriptions" threads, didn't seem appropriate either since this is for help with a trope that does not actually exist yet.
Anywho, I'm working on a TLP draft and I think an extra/outside opinion might be needed to settle a detail for it. The TLP is tentatively titled "Incapable of Disobeying
", and the premise is living creatures under a rule or set of rules that they are, as the name suggests, incapable of disobeying even if they wanted to. With this in mind, for the laconic I wrote "When living creatures are Three Laws-Compliant", as the way robots are influenced by the Three-Laws of Robotics struck me as the clearest and quickest comparison to what was going on.
There's since been some back and forth between myself and another troper, Unsung, about whether Morality Chip would be a better comparison trope than Three Laws-Compliant. I don't personally agree, and honestly feel this back-and-forth is derailing the example collection. At the same time, I'm not so wedded to the idea that I'm against changing it if there's a consensus, which right now there isn't.
So I'd like to request an outside/neutral opinion on whether Morality Chip or Three Laws-Compliant is a better comparison trope to get the idea of Incapable of Disobeying across.
Thank you in advance.
openA Prequel Manga Set in Same Universe
So I made the page for Jujutsu Kaisen and it has a prequel called Tokyo Metropolitan Magic Technical School and the manga itself (the Metropolitan one) consists of 4-5 chapters and given its a prequel of Jujutsu, it set as the same universe with that.
Now here's a question: Shall I merge both Tokyo Metropolitan School example altogether with Jujutsu Kaisen or create separate folder/border altogether in the same page?
openWalthrough Mode?
On VideoGame.Tales Of Vesperia, I found this:
- Guide Dang It!:
- The time windows for side quests pretty much require a guide to fully complete. Many involve resting at inns multiple times before moving on to the next plot point, and others involve returning to out-of-the-way areas that you have no real reason to explore. Most infamously, there are a dozen steps to obtaining Judith's Infinity +1 Sword, the Brionac, that are spread out over the whole game, the first of which need to be done before she even joins the party.
- None of the Secret Missions offer any clue as to what their requirements are. Sometimes you can figure it out (for example, with Gattuso, it's easy to determine that it involves the billybally flowers on the field), several times it's as simple as "knock them over after they use their Mystic Arte"...and then there's Yeager, in which you have to wait until the second half of the fight, break his guard (a monumentous task in and of itself), wait for him to enter a specific pose, and then use Raven's specific arte that causes guard-broken enemies to explode. It is highly unlikely you'll figure those steps out without consulting guides.
- The requirements for some of the second Mystic Artes in the Updated Re-release, or even becoming aware of their existence. Not only are many of the requirements esoteric (like Rita using Thunder Blade 200+ times, then entering the 200-Man Melee and using it on the Time Traveller...in Over Limit while he's at less than half HP) or require significant investment to unlock (such as Estelle needing to not only have awakened all the spirits in the storyline, but to have used all five versions of her Burst Arte 20 times each), even activating them once you have them requires a specific button combination (attack + arte, or in one case, attack + arte + guard) that isn't used for anything else.
Is this considered Walkthrough Mode? I think it is because it's still going into specific details of how to these sidequests. The examples where added by a troper named mattknight who seems to be aware of what they're writing, because their edit reason is "I hope these aren't considered Walkthrough Mode - just spelling out how obtuse they can be."
I also tend to notice that this is a recurring issue on Tales Series pages in general. Because of the nature of their sidequests, I've come across several examples listing directions of how to do them. Just a few weeks back, I had to delete directions to Gauche & Droite's sidequest on their character profile.
Edited by DivineFlame100openNeed Clarification Anime
I'm still working on the Hybrid X Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia page and need clarification on the The Mirror Shows Your True Self trope.
According to the description, it seems to be strictly about mirrors only, but I've seen variants where magic caves and astral projection also reveal the true self. Hybrid x Heart's take on it uses the "Love Room" (essentially their version of a holodeck) to reflect each girl's inner kink.
So my question is: Does The Mirror Shows Your True Self allow for such variations, or is there another trope like it that does?
Edited by MiinUopenIndvidual pages for Trails of Cold Steel games.
Ok, so I noticed that The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel page has tropes from all four of its currently available games listed altogether. I feel that this is starting to become a mess on its own, so I think each game in the Trails of Cold Steel series needs to have their own individual pages to sort out their respective tropes.
I would like to request this change for two reasons;
First, Trails of Cold Steel I was just recently re-released on the PlayStation 4 with II coming just around the corner in May. In addition, III is currently being localized and will release sometime this fall. With the amount of new releases this year, it will no doubt bring a lot of newcomers to the pages, so I think it will be really helpful for newcomers to the games if they're not confused to the jumbled mess of tropes from later games they haven't even played yet.
Second, it reduces the risk of spoiler exposure from later games. The main issue I have with the current page are its heavy spoilers from all games, especially those that are yet to be localized. I think the current setup will only discourage newcomers from actively contributing to the page (myself included), so by creating new pages, spoilers can be kept at a minimum and only exclusive to their respective games.
So what do you think? I would just use the main page to list general tropes present throughout the series while game-specific tropes can be moved to their respective pages.
Edited by DivineFlame100open Edit War
rockdeworld added an unfitting example of Point of No Return (see here
), namely a case of temporary not being able to go back (the trope's definition clearly says it's for permanent cases. Furthermore, it violated indentation rules. I removed it, but then they added it back, thus triggering an edit war. Worse, after I sent them an Issue Helper on the matter, they said the example was valid (apparently they only interpret the mere act of not being able to go back as an example, disregarding the fact that it's only temporary) and said that I should just have "fixed [the misindentaion myself]"" (as if it was something optional I could do just because they chose not to).

Doing a cleanup binge and came across Wreckless Media Radio. The ZC Es that were there aside, I want to ask about this example:
Karma Houdini is tagged as NRLEP. The third one is most definitely just a character, and I would hope the second one is, but what about the first? I don't know this podcast, so I'd appreciate some input.
