Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.
- Proposing new tropes. See TropeLaunchPad.

openTo report or not to report, that is the question Webcomic
I heard that the page on Shredded Moose had been cut under the content policy, but there seems to be a page on it now. While I'm not quite familiar with the webcomic, and the page itself looks pretty clean, if the P5 decided it was inappropriate, I feel a little weird about the article being here. Should I report it?

openDoes What An Idiot require the specific formatting?
I've often seen What An Idiot examples formatted in this way:
- First bullet point describing the situation.
- You'd expect: the obvious thing to do.
- Instead: what actually happens.
Is this format mandatory? All the examples on the What An Idiot subpages use it, but those on a work's YMMV page don't always do so. Should such examples be deleted or made to fit the format? Should the format be mentioned on the What An Idiot page itself (it's not there currently)?
openPage of ZCEs
The Trope Crusading Lawyer has a lot of Zero Context Examples. I know the policy is to hide them with the percentage markup until someone can add context, and I'd be more than happy to do it, just checking if, as this would be removing quite a lot of examples, there's another way to fix the problem...though I myself can't think of anything. So, is it okay for me to go hide all the ZC Es or is there something else to do?
openTrope launched without permission
Someone launched my TLP draft Ghost Train without permission or reason. I was just about to launch it myself, but if they just wanted it to be launched already, shouldn't they have just commented on the draft page and asked me to do it?
As you can see in the TLP archive, I still had some questions. Since nobody had answered them, I was just going to go ahead and launch the trope anyway, but now I feel worse about my questions staying open because someone launched the trope without providing any insight on my questions.
Edited by DrNoPumaopenNo advertising--does this cross the line?
The forum rules state as follows: "Do not post for the sole or primary purpose of advertising your own or any third-party site or product."
I could use some help regarding where the line lies in this, please.
A few times, I've wanted to share a work made by someone that I've known or been acquainted with, and had the thought to create a discussion thread for it.
However, since the creator was someone known to me, even when I've wanted to discuss the work, my primary motivation has been a desire to share their work. Thus far I've therefore been eschewing the creation of such threads.
Although, thinking about it as I write this, my reading of the rule also seems to preclude cases where my desire to share a work comes simply from enthusiasm for the work itself, regardless of who created it.
For example, if I discover a game that I think that others might be interested in, I might want to create a thread for it. Since my primary desire would be to let others know about the game, with any desire for discussion being secondary, should I eschew creating such a thread?
In short, I find that there are times when my primary desire is to say "hey everyone, here's this cool thing!", and that this is especially so when the thing is made by someone who I like. As I'm reading it right now, the rule seems to prohibit creating threads under such conditions. Am I correct? Or is it not intended to go that far?
PS: In the description for "Ask The Tropers", above, the link labelled "click here" seems to go to the wrong location. After hunting around a bit, I'm not sure of where to report this, so I'm mentioning it here for now.
openChanging a work's name Anime
Just wanted to check with you if the process of changing the work's title to it's English official translation was correct: 1/ Create the new page with the new name 2/ Copy the entire content of the former page 3/ Cutlist the old page with the untranslated name and ask to create a redirect to the new page (or create the redirect myself but I never did that...)
Am I correct? Thanks!
openSuggesting material Videogame
I'd like to add a something to the God of War (2018) page of tropes. Specifically to the Nightmare Fuel page. I don't want to add it myself. I only want to point this thing out to a troper who had previously worked on/edited the God of War Nightmare Fuel page.
openRegarding novelizations Film
Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but if a novelization of a film explains something in detail that went missing, was only implied in the film or something else entirely, should that be added to the film page itself in some way?
openon the topic of genre
I know that individual genres are tropes, but is the concept of "genre" a trope itself? Because fitting a work into a genre does serve a specific storytelling purpose, to communicate to the audience what sort of overall experience they should expect to have.
Edited by homestaropen Breaking the arrogant
Is there a trope for the moment a vain or egotistical character that thinks himself better that everyone else, breaks, and admits that another character, usually the hero, is better than him?
openNo Title Literature
I just came across the page for the book Liar and it is absolutly covered in whitespaced spoiler tags. I've moved all the tags that were around the trope names onto around the text itself, but it is still looking far too tag heavy. I'm not familiar with this work myself, and I understand it has a sizeable twist halfway through, which the author has asked readers not to spoil, so I would be grateful if anyone has an idea on how to rewrite this to work with our spoiler policy. Or maybe we should just declare it spoilers off, and put a warning label at the top?
Anyone got any ideas, please?

On a related note, robkesper posted a review comment
claiming that HIV is a "gay disease". Unfortunately, we still live in a world where people believe that shit. Keep in mind that the review itself did not mention any STDs at all.
openCould Monsters be considered a trope?
Used literally, the word "Monster" is an umbrella term that refers to dangerous fictional creatures or entities that are distinct from (physiologically normal) humans or animals, especially ones that are malevolent or that prey on humans. I feel like the concept of Monsters is a trope in itself (and an important one) but I wanted to see what other people think.

openPowerup Comics
Powerup Comics is a parody webcomic that has two pages on TV Tropes: one in the Webcomic namespace that is a Self-Demonstrating Article written in the style of the comic itself, and another on Darth Wiki that's written more like what you'd expect a TV Tropes article to be.
So... shouldn't it be the other way around? The one in the main wiki giving the actual facts, and Darth Wiki hosting the joke version?
openIs My Hobby Weird?
Is anyone interested or planning on making a work page for the mini series 'Is My Hobby Weird'? I personally would love it if someone did as it's one of the greatest things ever made in my opinion and I'd do it myself but I'm pretty sure I'd mess it up.
open "Self demonstrating" folder titles
Wild Teen Party has folder titles that appear to try to be self-demonstrating, even though the page is in Main and the rest of it is not written self-demonstratingly. Kosher or not? It doesn't add anything to the page, in any case...
openWhat... is MemeticBadass/ChuckNorris?
MemeticBadass.Chuck Norris seems to be... I don't know?
I thought it was maybe a listing of people/characters who had sufficient Memetic Badass-ness to have their own lists akin to Chuck Norris Facts, but even that doesn't seem to be the case. It just sort of seems like a rambling self-demonstrating page?
openHelp needed in adding fic recommendations for both Skip Beat and Samurai Deeper Kyo Anime
I have many fics I would like to suggest to the pages for Skip Beat and Samurai Deeper Kyo but I am a new user (just signed up two days ago) and don't know the ropes here yet. I'm sorry if I'm committing a faux pas in the process.
