Ask the Tropers:
openBorderline obsession?
I've been thinking about that one for quite a long time, as I honestly am not the kind of guy to tell on somebody, and the troper seems to have a lot of good edits in general, but this particular thing has gone on far too long now. Tuvok
seems to have a pretty heavy case of Single-Issue Wonk on the character 'Grant Ward' from the show Agents of Shield, with his character folder being listed here
. I'll admit, this character has proven himself to be very controversial among the fans, but he seems almost hellbent on deleting pretty much anything positive or morally ambiguous about him, even though that was kind of the point. A lot of his reasonings seem to fall under his personal interpretation, with numerous people disagreeing over time, and as I've said (just look for yourself at the edit history of the page), this has gone on for years by now (even longer than the actual edit history of the page, as said page has been renamed and moved several times). Essentially, the whole character has been the subject of an extremely long edit war. And it has never been brought to discussion, he just straight up deletes what he doesn't like.
openKirby Characters reorganization Videogame
The character pages for the Kirby series (link here
) have been going through a lot of restructuring recently. Where we originally had one page for every villain and boss, we now have four pages: Villainous Factions (for major villains that are part of a group), Other Major Antagonists (for major villains that are independent), Recurring Bosses (for bosses that make repeat appearances throughout the series), and Other Bosses (for bosses that have only appeared once or twice). There’s also a page for characters specific to Kirby’s Return to Dream Land, which has been seen as unnecessary by myself and a few others for a while. Someone else has already removed any character from the Return to Dream Land page that can be found on another page. All that’s left on the game’s page are one-off bosses. I’d like to move these entries to the Other Bosses page and get rid of the Return to Dream Land page entirely, but I’m certain the Other Bosses page will become too long if I do. Should I split the page again? Remove any characters that only have two or three tropes attached to them? Leave these pages as-is?
openDo we have a project to disambig works?
I noticed that that several Tropers were asking about making work pages of the same title and namespace into disambig pages like Malady's one here
or Crossover-Enthusiast's here
and I was wondering if there is project for that sort of thing like the Franchise Namespace Correction where Tropers can add pages to moved and discuss what needed to be done
A quick check and I can only find the Changing Main redirects into Disambigs....
forum thread
I have done a few myself but I know of some more that might nee changing like Max Steel/Max Steel (2013), The Secret Life of Walter Mitty/The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (1947), Dillinger/Dillinger (1945)
open Everything points to one outcome, but this is never clarified
In this example, Alice speaks German, has a German accent, and she is Wearing a Flag on Your Head but the reference to Germany itself (in terms of her nationality) is never clarified. Essentially, all evidence points to one outcome, but the creators never clarify it - what trope would this be? It's kind of like Ambiguously Jewish, but less specific and more macro. Thank you
openSuper Mario Bros. - Dork Age or not? Videogame
Both the GameCube/GBA era and the 3DS/Wii U era are listed as a Dork Age for Mario on the video games page. Myself and a few others got into a discussion
about it, and we felt that neither of those actually do classify as a Dork Age. One of the users went ahead and removed the examples. Soon after, however, they were added back by another user, who disagreed with the deletion. The other user was unaware that there had been a discussion about it, so I linked him/her to the appropriate page.
I'm still leaning on the side of 'doesn't count as a Dork Age' myself, but I felt that maybe I should get some more opinions first. Thoughts?
Edited by StardustSoldieropenQuestion regarding HeWhoMustNotBeSeen Western Animation
Just wondering, does the trope apply if the character is not explicitly named by any of the characters.but their image and the presence is there?
The example I was thinking of adding was White Diamond from Steven Universe since they've never been named in the show itself but their image has shown up in the show.

How is a "large change" decided? As a percentage of page length?
My edit to JustForFun/IThoughtThatWas
, got flagged as Large, even though it was just adding 11 characters.
Although, the page source itself
just has... about 200?
openFunnyAneurysmMoment parameters
Do I understand correctly that a "Funny Aneurysm" Moment is a funny moment in a work made "cringeworthy" or otherwise un-funny by events or additional works occurring after the release (or at least after production) of the work in question?
There are currently a number of examples on Avengers: Infinity War that reference funny moments early in the film made sadder by later events in the film itself. Others are about pre-release speculation or comparisons to other work becoming sadder in light of the actual work content. My understanding is that these would be misuse of the trope, but I would like confirmation of that before I remove them.
openQuestion about a Creator's image on their page
If I have a problem with it, do I request a change to it through the Creator's page itself by their "Discussion" link or do I just go through another avenue to request a change?
openWMG Grease Film
Every entry on WMG.Grease relates to the movie's cast members, rather than the musical itself. Should the page go on the cut list?
openMagnificentBastard cleanup thread
Hi folks, myself and another troper were interested in starting a Magnificent Bastard cleanup thread in the same way it's been done for Complete Monster. We figured we'd do a similar layout as the latter, with people doing effort posts detailing the work, the character, the MB qualities they posses and addressing anything that would throw their status as one into question and with the same at least five more upvotes than downvotes, create a writeup trying not to go over 300 words. We'd establish a list of criteria that can be updated as time goes on and IMO this is a trope that really needs some TLC. Thoughts?
openAny mention that TropeOverdosed Franchises's wick counts are aggregate of its works' wick counts?
For Trope Overdosed Franchises, are the wick counts used, the aggregate of all its works? Or just the related page?
Edit: Apparently so, but I can't find any mention of such in the source
, not even in the commented-out sections. So, I'll add it in, unless it actually is made redundant, somewhere?
Literature.Tortall Universe was on Trope Kilowicked, but then I pulled it off, as it had only 478
wicks to the page itself.
But should I have been totaling that, and its components, which may pass the 1500 minimum for being Trope Overdosed?
Its Components
openThatOneLevel.SuperMarioBros weird edit
ThatOneLevel.Super Mario Bros has a user by the name of Vif119
who just asked for a folder to be made right on the bottom of the page itself. He appears to have been here for a few years judging by his edit history, yet he still doesn't know how to make a folder and has problems abusing ALLCAPS, so I feel like he may need to be called in for a chat.
openQuestionable Example?
From YMMV.Star Wars under Fandom Berserk Button:
- * The anvilicious sociopolitical messages of the sequel trilogy can get on many fans' nerves. While the most obvious reason is because of the anviliciousness itself, a possibly bigger reason is that it causes an unnecessary political divide in the Star Wars fanbase. The sequels' hatedom is largely composed of people who oppose their (well-intentioned) progressive messages ('nuff said), which causes any fan who dislikes the sequels, even if they agree with their messages, to be lumped with the haters and their often rabid and regressive worldviews. Whether intentional or not, this sort of political polarization and "guilt-tripping" of people who dislike the sequels is frowned upon by many fans who, you know, just want to enjoy Star Wars.
Is this a valid example? What messages does it have that weren't problematic in prior works?
openShould I make a section in RepetitiveName for tropes?
Should I make a section in Repetitive Name for tropes?
Because we have titles like Rightly Self-Righteous, which are more repetitive than a simple Alliterative Name?
openState the Source
I'm told that the following examples are fulfilling all requirements of "State the Source" from How to Write an Example (exchange Wick with the relevant work page):
- Samson likes to think of himself as an intelligent man who <more context>.
- Betty of Country Roads smashes her slate over Gilbert's head, and <more context>.
- The Mistress once caught her friend <more context>.
openUnintentionally Unsympathetic example?
From YMMV.Super 8:
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: The alien. We're instructed by the script to feel sorry for the way it was treated by the military and root for it to return home, just like E.T., even when it starts lashing out and killing several people who had absolutely nothing to do with its mistreatment and posed no threat to it, very much unlike E.T. That it's intelligent enough for the kids to reason with suggests it didn't kill innocent people due to panicked self-preservation, but out of revenge, which makes the ending seem like a miscarriage of justice to many viewers, instead of the "D'aww!" moment it was meant to be.
- However it's possible the creature while intelligent could've simply been blinded by the rage of being trapped and tortured for so long after simply wishing to go home. It doesn't excuse Cooper's actions but it does further show how monstrous the torture process it went through was.
I've cut the last part for violating Repair, Don't Respond, but should I completely cut the example is the context behind it is contested? I'd bring this to the Unintentionally Unsympathetic Cleanup
but they still haven't replied to my last inquiry.
openDescribing suicide as Film
Okay, I know awesome and comedy are supposed to subjective, but...
In YMMV.The Butterfly Effect, under Crosses the Line Twice, there's an entry that says Evan going back in time to kill himself as an fetus is unintentionally hilarious and awesome. Also, in Awesome. The Butterfly Effect, there's a whole entry that goes into detail about just why said event is so awesome.
This just seems... wrong. It's not just me, is it?
Edited by ChaoticQueenopenCreating a Folder for a Personal Profile
So, do any of you know how to create a folder for a personal profile? I've already typed up info about myself on my personal profile. Now, I want to create folders so I can list the stuff I like. I would appreciate some help and thank you in advance.

AndyYagami
is a... weird case. 7 edits to his name in 3 years of troping, so I'll go through each of them:
So yeah. What few edits he's made (the most recent was in 2017) seem to primarily be on politically-charged subject.
The real issue is more his Discussion posts
. Because they're... something. He's a prolific discusser, apparently. And he tends to get into fights. Like, a lot.
Like, it might not be an issue because he mostly keeps it confined to discussion pages, but his views are clearly pretty toxic and he seems to enjoy stirring up the pot.
