openTLP of banned users
I have a question about TLP etiquette in regards to banned users. I've been working on a trope draft created by Getta, who was recently found to be a sock puppet of an already banned user and who was thus bounced. I know that the normal rule is to wait two months before taking over someone else's draft, but in this case (the creator being banned/no longer being welcome), would it be alright to consider it Up For Grabs already and take over working on it myself?
Edited by OrbitingopenWeDidntStartTheFuhrer Film
I have recently seen a film set in a historical war (which is not World War II), where the main character is sure that the whole conflict was caused by a supernatural influence over humanity, and it turns out that no, the war was something that humanity started all by itself, with no supernatural forces at work. I thought about We Didn't Start the Führer, but that trope clarifies that it is specifically for Hitler and WWII. Is there some parent trope, then? Or should I use it anyway, taking into account that Tropes are flexible? If it is the second, shouldn't we rewrite the trope a bit, to clarify that WWII is simply a major location of this trope, but not the exclusive one?
Note: The very question I'm making may give a spoiler about the plot of the film, so the best way I could thought about to avoid that was to speak in general terms, without mentioning the film (and, just in case, not even the actual war). If someone else here does realize the film that made me ask this question, please do not mention it, for the sake of those who did not saw it.
openThatOneLevel question
Specifically, is there a "one entry per game" rule for That One Level? The page itself is a bit unclear on this.
openEdit War in Seasonal Rot
There seems to be a slow-burning Edit War over at Seasonal Rot. Troper Wyldchyld deleted a Bleach entry revolving around the Arrancar arc. Troper Austin restored it with no substantial changes and an edit reason of "Correct. Do not remove." Wyldchyld re-deleted it with an edit reason directing the reader to the Discussion page, where they made a short post explaining their reasoning. Austin restored it, again substantially unchanged, leaving a brief paragraph in their edit reason but without participating in the Discussion thread.
I don't have a horse in this race, not being a Bleach fan myself and knowing nothing about whether the entry is valid, but the matter seems to require some more input, as these two seem unlikely to reach consensus between themselves.
Edited by HighCrateopenPossible Bluenose Bowdlerizer?
I'm not exactly sure what's going on here, but I recently looked at my watchlist and saw that ExultantCapon
edited Characters.Nichijou to change the word "fuck" to "hell". I don't necessarily disagree with this change but I took a look at the edit history anyway and noticed a tendency towards changing seemingly inocuous words into other phrases. I've also noticed all of the edits are today.
Examples:
- Ungrateful Bastard - "Hates with a passion" to "annoying as heck"
- GetAHoldOfYourselfMan.Anime And Manga - "came to his senses" to "came to himself" and "didn't want to slap Suzaku back into his senses" to "didn't plan to slap Suzaku into realization"
- UsefulNotes.Japanese Pronouns - Deleted "Conversely, Bulma calls him "anta" and definitely is being rude." Probably justified as natter, but no edit reason was included and a porition of an entry directly below got deleted along with it.
- Characters.Samurai Pizza Cats - "idiots" to "dimwits" (though the word is capitalized so maybe it's a term correction?) and "hair-trigger temper" to "crazy short temper"
openOfficial romanization stuff in Fate/Grand Order Videogame
Okay, there's been some disagreement regarding how to romanize the name アルトリア (lit. Arutoria) for this game, which has been complicated by inconsistent official use. FGO's official translation uses 'Altria,' however, the recently released Fate/Extella's official translation uses Artoria. The company that localized it as 'Altria' wanted to use Artoria, but were overruled by the company that makes the game, who has used both forms at different points because nothing can ever be simple. The name is supposed to be a feminine of the Roman name 'Artorius,' which is a plot point later on. So far as I'm aware, the rest of the wiki uses the name 'Artoria' when referring to her by name instead of title. Finally, most fans kind of hate the name Altria. However, it is the official name for this single installment and does seem to be the name the company wants people to go with.
In this situation, what name should we be going with? The unpopular but slightly more official one or the name that sees more usage, but isn't used in the game itself due to questionable localization? There's been some arguing as to policy and a bit of back and forth on this one and I don't want it to spiral into an edit war.
In short, the official name is Altria, but they've also used Artoria officially before and just about everyone prefers that name because it makes more sense, so it's not clear which we should use.
Edited by ArhaopenThe hidden note from Gundam Seed Destiny Anime
I'm not sure is this the right place to ask, but here goes.
There's a hidden note in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny. While I can see why it's here, it doesn't follow the style of any other notes on this very site as it's pretty demanding.
Now here' s my question, can I alter it or do I need a permission? I removed a hidden note before as I felt it was unnecessary, only to get called out by a user.
For those who are curious, here's the note.
!!Fellow tropers: TV Tropes is a wiki dedicated to compiling story and character tropes, not attesting your fiery hatred for every single aspect of a particular show. So before you add yet another complaint about Gundam SEED Destiny, take a closer look at the list; aren't there enough complaints already? Complaining isn't going to make the show better. Instead, why don't you just pour yourself some chocolate milk, pop a few anti-depressants, and re-watch Gundam SEED or another Gundam series of your choice until your crippling rage subsides.!!

openPotential edit warring on ''Characters/TheLastOfUs'' (Is it my fault?) Videogame
I'm getting a bit annoyed. It seems like every time I try to edit the character page for The Last of Us, any changes or examples I add are either deleted, commented out or re-edited, many times seemingly instantly after I post them. Admittedly some of them may have been misuses, but I'm getting really mad. I recently removed the page from my watchlist due to both the frustration and the desire to avoid potential spoilers from ''The Last of Us Part 2", but I went back to add more examples (which will likely get removed too) and saw more things removed. Off the top of my head, here's what was revised (examples are paraphrased SPOILERS AHEAD):
- Berserk Button: Joel has a tendency to get pissed off when someone asks about his past before the infection, particularly his dead daughter Sarah (this one was admittedly a misuse in hindsight, since the trope doesn't apply to situations that would reasonably anger someone, and Joel would reasonably not want to talk about such a painful memory and Ellie was intentionally pressing him about it)
- From Nobody to Nightmare: I pointed out Joel's rise from average, working class single father pre-outbreak, to reckless hardcore survivalist with a body count likely in the triple digits. David's group openly runs away from him rather than fight him after having killed dozens of their men. It was removed due to being "for villains only" even though a) it clearly says on the trope page itself "that being a villain is not necessarily a requirement for this trope, even though most who fit the trope are. Anyone who is feared or dreaded by someone (even if the "someone" in question is the cruel and tyrannical government that the heroes oppose) can qualify." and b) Batman is listed as an example. Not to mention that Joel is, at best a Nominal Hero.
- Older Than They Look: It's a bit hard to believe that Ellie is fourteen. Joel even asks if she's 12 when he first meets her. (She "looks that age to me". Though I do have a problem guessing the ages of children because I have always been younger than I look, I was 6 ft tall by the time I was fourteen and my voice deepened at a very young age; I had a Kevin Conroy-like baritone at the age of ten! So a kid that looks eight or nine to me will usually end up being in their early teens. Furthermore, nearly all of the adults in my town are also Younger Than They Look, further adding to the confusion). But again, Joel himself comments on it in the story, so the example should remain.
Those are just the ones off the top of my head, and most of the edits (except the last one) have been from a single user. Az_Tech341. I haven't PM'd him/her about the issue yet and I doubt it would go well if I did, so I just skipped a step and went here. Is there an issue or am I just an idiot who should stop editing the page altogether? I have already lost my editing privileges once when I was fairly new, and I'm trying to avoid it happening a second time. Probably doesn't help my case, but I have to be honest.

openDuplicate Tropes
I think this is the right place to post this but if not please point me in the right direction.
The How to Write an Example says that duplicates of tropes should be avoided but what counts a duplicate? For instance would the following two tropes be considered duplicates despite the fact that they are different tropes?
- Fantasy Counterpart Culture: The Ultramarines have a Greco-Roman theme with their armour decorations sharing many design features with those of the Greek Hoplites and Roman Legions. The design of many of their combat blades also resembles that of a gladius. Macragge itself, having togas and marble architecture, looks a lot like a sci-fi version of Rome.
- Space Romans: Quite literally. Maccrage, and possibly other parts of Ultramar, were designed after Greco-Roman city states, and the Ultramarines include this aesthetic in their infantry.
openClarification On This Live Action TV
From Mean Character Nice Actor Live Action TV
- Mark Pellegrino has pretty much built his career on playing assholes that include abusive husbands, Jacob and Lucifer. In real life, he is a devout christian and family man who comes across as very sweet, relaxed, funny and very appreciative of fans.
But from Wikipedia:
- Pellegrino was born in Los Angeles, California. He is an adherent of Objectivism, a philosophy created by Russian-American writer Ayn Rand.[4] Pellegrino does not identify as a libertarian. Though he considers this description to be the closest to his political views, he considers libertarianism to be an anarchist political ideology and has distanced himself from this ideology, describing himself solely as an Objectivist, stating that he sees a place for government in society.[5][6][7][8] He has described his political views, instead, as classical liberalism,[9] and has also described himself as a radical capitalist.[6] He is married to Tracy Aziz and is the stepfather of her daughter Tess.[10]
- Pellegrino is an atheist.[11]
Did someone pull the bit about him being a Christian out of their ass, or has renounced faith at some point?

openSelfDemonstrating.SuperboyPrime Print Comic
ComicBook.Superboy Prime redirects to SelfDemonstrating.Superboy Prime. First off, I'm not even sure if the character has a distinct enough voice to qualify for a SD page. Secondly, SD pages aren't supposed to be linked to, they're Just for Fun, correct? I feel like this should be cutlisted, or at least the redirect removed.

Why does this page even still exist? It's acknowledged on the page itself that the work is fictional. This is not the purpose of the wiki. Even if the page needs to be kept for some reason, it's in the wrong namespace. I'm not sure there's even a right namespace.
Furthermore the page hasn't been edited at all since its creation, other than some edit-war blanking and unblanking, and someone doing proper namespacing on it. It has exactly one crosswick, as well.
openHow do I revive a forum?
I once started a forum about an upcoming game a while back. However, I made the mistake of starting it with just links to other websites. Rather then handle it calmly and maturely, I asked for the thread to be nuked because I was wallowing in self-hatred at the time. I would like to try to revive the thread and asked the person who nuked it if I could start it again, but they haven't replied back.
openEdit Warring?
On Characters.Punch Out, I had removed a modified trope name because tropes and works should be directly linked instead of potholed in examples. AgentSkyblueM7 added it back
under the edit reason that "this is meant to keep up with the sports theme". I'm pretty sure that justification shouldn't fly, but unfortunately I can't revert it myself because it'd be Step Three of edit warring. So a moderator will have to do it themselves and make the troper know that potholing a trope's or work's name when listing its example isn't allowed.
openReporting a troper
I would like to report Tropers.Lady Jane Grey due to issues with Handling Spoilers, Parabombing, and Word Cruft. Their edit history
.
I messaged them today regarding the Word Cruft, but not only have they not replied, but they have continued making edits without correcting the mess.
The example I messaged them about is this one added to Casanova Wannabe yesterday
:
* Alito in ''Anime/YuGiOhZexal'' tries to charm and romance Katori, ultimately seeing Yuma as a rival for her affection. (Ironically, Yuma [[ChasteHero doesn't see her that way at all]].) His lame, hammy, and sappy attempts fall flat and come off as silly. (Seeing as [[AntiVillain he's a Barian]], it's rather awkward anyway; he doesn't even recognize Yuma as an enemy until ''after'' seeing him as a rival for Katori.)
Parabombing is present in this example. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't parabombing count as Word Cruft? And does it really fit the trope itself?
Another example has to do with Handling Spoilers. On the 23rd of July
, they added this to Literature.Harry Potter And The Chamberof Secrets:
* LeeroyJenkins: [[spoiler:At first, it is assumed that Hermione was petrified because she acted like this, looking for the Chamber alone and unprepared. In truth, the Trope is ''seriously'' subverted. She ''was'' prepared, the reason she wasn't ''killed''.]]
We have improper capitalization, you can't "seriously" subvert a trope, and examples shouldn't be whited out, even if the trope itself remains visible.
Just today
, they added four examples to IneffectualSympatheticVillain.Comic Books:
* The there was Signalman. Supposedly, he was a crook who figured he needed some gimmick to be successful, so taking inspiration from the Bat-Signal, he embarked on crimes where, like the Riddler, he left clues for the hero. But signals just don't grab a fan's attention as much as riddles do, and his costume looked like some kid scribbled all over it. * Calendar Man started out like this. Julian Gregory Day (three puns in one there) committed crimes on holidays with an appropriate theme. (Like dressing as Uncle Sam on Independence Day and robbing historic museums.) And he made really bad puns doing it. Still, in recent years he's become a little more serious and seen in darker stories, becoming a ''little'' better and less of a joke. * Charlie Brown, the notorious Kite Man. ([[NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer Not making this up]], this lame ShoutOut even crashed into a tree in one story and yelled "Rats!") Obsessed with kites, he committed crimes with a rocket-powered hang glider, until he was killed off and [[OldShame never mentioned again.]] * One would think that a character designed by legends Bob Kane and Bill finger would be A-list, but the Penny Plunderer was anything but. Joe Coyne (uh, yeah) was a newspaper seller who was fired for stealing pennies, and turned to crime over an obsession for them. But it gets worse. This was the ''original owner of the giant penny'', the one in the Batcave. DC was so embarrassed by this story, they gave it a RetCon that made the villain RetGone, attributing the giant penny to Two-Face and banishing the Penny Plunderer from canon.
Parabombing is present. Additionally, a typo in the first example, which I'm assuming to be "then" instead of "the", makes it come off as natter.
On the 21st of July
, they took the properly indented Sad Clown trope and put it under Non-Ironic Clown as a second-level bullet. Both are ZC Es.
Looking through my messages, I thought I had messaged them about Handling Spoilers, too, but it would seem I messaged someone else about it instead. The message regarding Word Cruft at least still stands.
Edited by TheNerfGuy

I was hoping for some advice or a point in the right direction in dealing with a couple work pages that need some work done.
The first is one I brought up a while back
, Literature.Rai Kirah . It's a work without a description, only a list of when the books of the trilogy were released. I PM'd the one who made the page but the only response to anything was a post in the discussion page (which, I admit, I was slow responding to) wondering about ZCE's I'd uncommented. It's been two weeks since my reply, where I mentioned the lack of description, and nothing. Where can I go to get some help for getting a description done?
The second work of Manga. The Voynich Hotel. Its description and tropes read like a brochure for the titular hotel. That's bad enough but there's nothing like that in the series (I've read about the first half) so they can't even use Self-Demonstrating as an excuse. Is this worth a short term project to help repair or is there somewhere else I should go? Not sure if I alone can get that fixed on a timely manner.
Thanks in advance.
Edit: I found the Improving work and creator page descriptions thread so I'll likely get my help from there.
