openIndexing Question Web Original
Where should one index the character page of a Journal Roleplay? I've seen some people put them on Characters.Play By Post Games, but since according the descriptions Play-by-Post Games and Journal Roleplays are different enough to warrant different tropes and indexes is that a good solution? I'd consider making a separate index page myself, but I don't know how to do so/if it would have to go through the Trope Launch Pad.
open My Sibling Lives Through Me, but...
So, a character's brother died. They're not twins. The brother had the goal of becoming a famous sports star, and since the character knew her recently deceased brother wanted to accomplish that dream, she decided to accomplish it herself for him.
It's not played for laughs. The two look nothing alike. Still, is this even a trope?
openMy First Edit Is Automatically Marked As YMMV, But Why? Videogame
Hello, everybody. I'm a newbie so I'm sorry if my question is answered elsewhere. I researched the issue but couldn't find anything.
My first edit signals a case of Talking To Himself in Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The situation is simple and leaves no room for factual interpretation: the dubbing actors in question provide the voices of characters who interact.
So then why is the new example point considered a YMMV entry?
openranabridged edits on YMMV/InvaderZim Western Animation
Some person named ranabridged
has been making some strange edits to the Invader Zim page, constantly neglecting full stops and commas, and even arguing with himself within his edits.
openExpy removal.
I had a quick question/issue regarding a recent edit by user Sydin on the Tales of Berseria character page. Sydin deleted this entry:
- Expy: Magilou looks identical to Tear Grants if she was wearing Teepo as an outfit. Her attitude is similar to Jade from Abyss, albeit with even less tact. Also, the over-the-top hammy nature, flowery self-promotion, outfit designed to resemble a stage magician's, and talent with a different kind of magic than other heroes brings comparisons to the Great and Powerful Trixie.
Now I added the first sentence but the user gave no reason for the removal so I wanted to bring it up here first to avoid any Edit War that could occur from readding it. While I can't speak for the MLP part of the entry, nothing in it was wrong so I wanted to check in.
Edited by keyblade333open Looking for an episode of a TV show
A long time ago, I saw a brief glimpse of a TV show episode, and I was unable to find what it was. I only remember one small part and have been unable to find it based on that part. I was hoping someone here may know what it is. The scene I saw was a woman's daughter, I believe the woman was a cop or detective. She made her daughter go home because she was around the wrong crowd I believe. While the daughter is in her room a boy shows up he was a goth kid and he may or may not have believed himself to be a vampire, I'm still fuzzy on that one. He kidnapped her, and that was all I saw. It has still stuck in my mind years later and every few months or show I try to find it, but have had no luck. Does anyone have an idea as to what it was. Thank you in advance!
openSelf-added noncanon awesome?
Steven Universe Blackthorned was added to Awesome.Steven Universe Non Canon by who I believe to be the author of the fic. While the premise does sound interesting, is it against the rules to add your own work to a noncanon awesome page?
Edited by Crossover-Enthusiastopen What's this genre? Videogame
I've now gotten a Works page for the Fairune series suitably big, but i can't figure out where to index it by genre. It's a top down game where the player explores a world gathering items, solving puzzles and beating monsters by walking into them, with multiple different maps for itself. I'd like to say Action Adventure, but it doesn't seem action-y enough for that. I don't suppose there'd be someone with a better grasp on genres over here?
For that matter, where do i go to get help with crosswicking? I could do it on ym own, but i might not have enough time to crosswick every trope on the page.
openVideo Game Movies Suck
So there are examples of Video Game Movies Suck on a few YMMV pages as examples, but not the "trope" itself. Should I remove the examples?
openArt on DeviantArt is tropable, right?
Art on Deviant Art is tropable, right?
Should there be a list for tropes that art on Deviant Art has? ... Hmm... Well, I guess that should be the Website page itself, no?
Edited by MaladyopenOrdering the examples of TropeName in various media lists
Is it fine for me to alphabetize examples of tropes in the various media folders? (I just realized that might be breaking a rule or considered a frivolous edit after alphabetizing the Live Action TV examples in Sweet on Polly Oliver) It's admittedly something that I'll probably rarely do, but I could see myself being especially-bothered once in awhile by something especially egregious (Something starting in V sandwiched between examples of shows that all start with the letter B for example)
openPygmalion gender swap?
I was asking myself what a gender-swapped Eliza Doolittle would look like. Is there a trope reversal where an experienced woman moulds a man and then falls in love with her creation? There's the original "Galatea, or Pygmalion Reversed" and beyond that, I didn't find much.
I'm curious what you trope experts think of this. Is this because in the many romcoms where a man tries to woo a woman and is rejected, but then betters himself and wins her, the man has more agency than Eliza Doolittles? Is the gender-swapped version of the Pygmalion trope common enough but it's just watered-down weaksauce when it happens? Are there significant and serious productions (perhaps as a comedy, but not as a parody) with the man being largely transfomed by the woman?
openThe Bird Feeder (Webcomic) page - safe to recreate? Webcomic
I'm the creator of The Bird Feeder webcomic, and there used to be a page here for it, though it's since been removed (see https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Webcomic/TheBirdFeeder
). I understand completely why that was, as it had several Zero Content Example and Weblinks Are Not Examples violations, and I've since moved to a new CMS and changed the structure of the links anyway, so most of the page would be pretty useless.
I was wondering, though, if it would be seen as bad form if I recreated the page myself, using an archived version of it as a template, and added some better descriptions for the examples. The page wasn't originally made by me, and I'm prepared to receive any abuse given to me for even asking to do this, but it was just a thought I had.
Edited by arkholtopenTroper with really...odd habits
Tropers.Chester Polar Bear seems like to edit sex-related tropes. Nothing wrong with that in itself, but then he makes edits in the My Girl Is a Slut and Ethical Slut tropes stating that Daphne and Freddie from Scooby-Doo are swingers because they wear ascots.
Also, they've made a lot of edits on The Chikan that just seem...inappropriate.
They don't seem like a malicious or abusive troper, but I thought I'd bring this to your attention.
openTricked "other stuff"
More than once I've seen Trick Arrow being potholed for Trick "something else" such as yo-yos or umbrellas. And Trick Arrow page itself also lists stuff like that.
Is that an okay thing to do?
openWander Over Yonder examples
I was wondering if someone could split the examples on Wander over Yonder into folders. I could do it myself, but I don't know which letters to use for each folder. (For instance, should the first be A-B or A-C?)
openTalking to Himself
Talking To Himself (especially its subpage for Live Action Film) seem to have a lot of examples that are actually live actors. I would just remove them, but there's so many I wondered if there are subtle distinctions that mean they don't qualify for Loads and Loads of Roles. Is it because the actors don't actually appear on camera at the same time?
open Politics on JonTron part 2
People are still adding political/drama posts onto YMMV.Jon Tron. While I don't agree with Jon's views, considering the recent stream debate we should probably add some message warning people against adding these types of examples on the page itself.

In Kamen Rider.
On 20th Feb '17 5:55:07 AM, Ryulong remove fan-speak term from description with edit reason "don't use that it's stupid as shit".
On 21st Feb '17 5:40:54 AM, Wolf Thunder add it back and claim that Ryulong edit is rude.
Personally, I agree with Ryulong that the term doesn't make sense (I think Western fanbase of Kamen Rider is too small to worth noting their lingo). And while their edit reason is bad, it's direct at the term itself, not editor.
Too bad, checking history, this isn't the first time Ryulong remove it. So it is Edit War.
