openNeed Clarification Anime
I'm still working on the Hybrid X Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia page and need clarification on the The Mirror Shows Your True Self trope.
According to the description, it seems to be strictly about mirrors only, but I've seen variants where magic caves and astral projection also reveal the true self. Hybrid x Heart's take on it uses the "Love Room" (essentially their version of a holodeck) to reflect each girl's inner kink.
So my question is: Does The Mirror Shows Your True Self allow for such variations, or is there another trope like it that does?
Edited by MiinUopen My first trope question xd Anime
Is there a trope about when a character does a series of horrible things in order to make everyone hate him and then die so all the hatred dies with himself and the world can live happily ever after? I saw it in Naruto (done by Sasuke towards the end of the series) and Code Geass (By Lelouch)
openComplainy entry of ArcFatigue Anime
Eternity Of Spirits added several entries to the YMMV page of Boruto, several of these were misuses which I removed explaining why in the comments. But this one in particular stroke me as overtly complainy:
- The manga in general is infamous for its very slow pacing, generally stretching out rather simple storylines out into multi-chapter arcs that last several months, often reiterating the same bits of information multiple times with little variance. Perhaps the most infamous example is Naruto's fight with Delta, where a single fight was stretched out for three months of real time despite relatively little actually happening in the fight itself, capped off by Delta self-destructing as a means of escape after being defeated, rendering basically the entire fight largely pointless. Many have said that the manga is still written under the idea of it being a weekly, even though the monthly release schedule means that the format and reader expectations are vastly different.
I originally reworded the entry to address that most of these issues are due to a monthly release, since if you read the manga back to back without waiting for the next chapter the pacing becomes better and many fans have said that the manga would be better if it had a weekly release. But they reverted it claiming that "I fail to see how being monthly excuses the poor pacing."
Any thoughts on this or is this just me?
openCancelling a Wikiword request Anime
I was looking at Creator.Funimation and found it odd that it was spelled properly, as I had always known it as FUNimation. I popped a wikiword request in but then looked down, actually read the page and saw it said previously known as FUNimation Productions and FUNimation Entertainment. Since I don't see any way to cancel the request myself, I wanted to post this so a mod would know it was a mistake on my part.
Edited by sgamer82openYMMV.KannazukiNoMiko page... kind of overly negative? Anime
This page. I get that it's a controversial show, but why is it that it looks like being written not by a neutral party but more like the detractors hamfisting what they don't like about the show? I've already made several edits about it, but I feel like I should rewrite in a more neutral manner.
Should I? Is the page negative enough?
The main page itself looked rather old, with a lot of ZCE's (I plan on fixing that too), so I was thinking that this was why a lot of its 'negativity' (if confirmed) went unfixed. What do you think?
openCreating a page? Anime
There is this Naruto fanfic that really deserves a page on here. The series, posted on AO 3, is called “The Sea Never Dies” by Fires From Our Hearts. There are several “books” in the series; the first two are completed, an interim book is a bunch of short stories and oneshots canon to the fanfic, the third book is currently being updated, and the fourth will come when the third book is completed. The fanfic is really incredible, and I’d love to see a page for it on here. Is there a different way I can recommend someone create one, or should I just do it myself? How would I even get started?
Edited by RuthieToothieopenUnofficial vs official English spellings Anime
Minor spoilers for One Piece below
So there's a character/group in the One Piece manga called "Rox". Many of the fan translations (and Oda himself) spell it as "Rocks", but the official English releases from VIZ and Crunchyroll use "Rox". Since it's the most recent official English version, I edited One Piece: Historical Figures and Flashback Characters to reflect this spelling. Troper killerdurian2 reverted the changes, citing Oda. I didn't undo his edit, as that would be considered edit warring, but I did send him a PM explaining my reasoning and asking if he would reverse his changes.
Just wanting to confirm, the "most recent official English translation" guideline is still in effect yes?
Edited by DeeeFooopenShould this be removed from the Gundam YMMV? Anime
I've noticed this particular example while I was browsing:
- Americans Hate Tingle: The Gundam franchise is very unpopular in Brazil, since most of Brazilian anime fans dislike mecha series. The only anime aired in the country was Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz OVAs during the beginning of the 2000s in the Cartoon Network, but it was clearly overshadowed by other animations like Dragon Ball Z, Rurouni Kenshin and YuYu Hakusho in the channel. Even the Brazilian fansubs don't have interest on it, most of them don't bother subbing any of the series that came before Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam 00.
Speaking as a Brazilian myself, I'd like to clarify some things:
- I really don't know where this supposed mecha stigma came from, even other shows like Code Geass have a solid fanbase in the Otaku community of the country.
- Wing was in fact overshadowed by other animations, but the franchise never aired again in all of Latin America; Seed was planned to air in the country alongside SD Gundam before it was licensed and Wing itself was even revisited by another TV block not affiliated with Cartoon Network.
- All pre-2000 Gundam shows are available and are easy to find thanks to fansubs made by devoted fans, gaining a small but dedicated cult-following in the process. In recent years, the modern Gundam shows are much more popular than their predecessors and are enjoyed by many in the community.
So yeah, It's certainly not "hated" or "very unpopular". This section was noted by another Brazilian troper a few years ago, who had this to say: "As an actual brazilian anime fan, I think that this post is making things sound worse than they actually are. And the "most of series are either not subbed or dropped" part is factually incorrect. Big fansubs groups may have not subbed Gundam anime before Seed, but smaller and specialized groups did it."
Edited by TheMadCr0wopenSound & Fury Anime
I was looking to make a page for the recent movie on Netflix called 'Sound & Fury': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sound_%26_Fury_(Sturgill_Simpson_album)
Two things, the first being that Netflix shows the full title as being "Sturgill Simpson Presents Sound & Fury", should that be the full title or can I shorten it to just "Sound & Fury"
Secondly, it seems it won't let me make a page with an ampersand in the title though pages like Franklin And Bash have the URL with 'and' but the page itself shows '&', and I'm not sure how to do that.
openShould Ferris (from Re:Zero) Be considered Transgender? Anime
Hi, I'm new to posting here, though I've browsed for longer. I'm a fan of the book series ReZero
, but what caught my interest while browsing the trope page was the fact that in the Re Zero Character Sheet Ferris is listed as a crossdressing boy, yet in the Transgender page Ferris is also listed as a transwoman. I think that these are conflicting statements or something. and a bit confusing? Idk. But I wanted to know whether Ferris should be considered a trans girl or a crossdressing boy.
Now. I personally believe that Ferris is a trans woman having read the bulk of the series. And these are some of my reasoning's as to why. Sorry if this is too long.
- Ferris legally goes by Felix Argyle, but she wishes to be called Ferris. In her introduction she reiterates to her boss that being called Felix upsets her,
and that "It's Ferris, Not Felix." Her birth name is rarely used in the story. This is akin to a trans person's deadname.
- In the side novel EX 1, it is shown that not even Fourier, one of her best friends, was aware that she had another name that she never used,
as Ferris does not like talking about the past, to the point where she doesn't tell people her birth name.
- In the side novel EX 1, it is shown that not even Fourier, one of her best friends, was aware that she had another name that she never used,
- In the English books, Ferris is addressed with male pronouns after her introduction. yet in the japanese version, she frequently uses feminine pronouns, this fact is also stated on the character sheet.
- Most importantly, there is a scene in her side novel Volume EX 1 which shows that for the last 6 years, Ferris has been praying to be a girl,
reaffirming herself everyday when she is alone in the mirror. The Narrator goes on to state that she no longer had to say these words, as they were already apart of the person who spoke them for 6 years.
- There is also a scene in EX 1 which shows that she dreaded coming out to Fourier about her birth gender, as she feared that, like other people, he would no longer want to be her friend.
- Ferris also states that she will never wear men's clothes again. In an interview on Twitter, the Author stated that the one time she wore men's clothes, she actually cried.
- And there is also the small fact that Ferris has been in a couple of video game crossovers that feature them in all-girls casts. I just figured I might add that in.
I know of a popular counterargument that might be brought up. That one is that Ferris in Arc 4 says that "He is a man in heart and soul" according to fan translations of the Web Novel. However, in the Official Light Novel release, This line is omitted and replaced with a line that reads "This outfit is a reflection of my body and spirit." I feel this has a much different meaning than the former line, as the outfit Ferris wears is a girls outfit, and it doesn't seem to imply that she identifies as male. This line is omitted in Volume 10 of the Light Novel, which the author considers to be the final version of the book series. Arc 4 was also released in 2013, when EX 1 and Volume 10 were released post 2015.
All-in-all, these points, alongside other evidence I didn't mention, are why I also think Ferris is trans, and I'd like to know what to make of this.
Edited by Sneekshionopen Why there's no pague on Kodomo No Jinkan? Anime
I'm not an idiot, I understand it's a very controversial manga but still... I first started reading it as a part of my quest to witness the most banned content on this world, but what I discovered the was one of the most unapologetic, engrossing stories I've ever read which not only do I believe is probably my favorite Manga now but it helped me cope with my own abuse story as a kid. In my case, it was very ambiguous, there was no violence and my abuser was not that much older than myself, I had always been told that the pain of abuse was instantaneous so as a kid I thought that if it didn't hurt instantly it wasn't abuse. But the pain started to creep up as the years went by and such ambiguousness was compounded with a lot of doubts no one wanted to answer or aknowledge could be asked since it was tabu to question the white and black morality of the situation and just doing it surely meant you were an abuser. But Kodomo No Jinkan asked those questions and slowly I felt I wasn't so alone, in my quest for edgy shit I thought I had become insensitive, but the uncomfortable actions combined with actually caring for the characters made me so uncomfortable I couldn't believe it. Near the end there's an abuse scene that made me angry and disgusted (that was the intention) to levels I didn't thought I was capable of feeling anymore. And the ending is quite controversial for not being ideal to many moral standard (maybe stretching them a bit), but that's kinda the point, when you have been broken you happiest ending will still be a shattered one for the eyes of most people but is one you should strive for instead of giving up because the perfect normal people's ending is unreachable. Also there's a very sick character with PTSD which at the end decides to start dealing with it after avoiding it for so long, it hurt deep inside in a very needed way. I know in appearance it looks bad and most people want it to "tell don't show" but I think of it as medicine, not for your normal headache as it is chemo extreme so I guess is fine if people can't take it, but to be hated after doing so much good it makes me feel alone. So I wanted to ask if we can include it back please, I think it can do a lot of good with people still stuck in between traumas they can't just tell anybody about.

There was this guy who wanted to defeat some evil. So, for that he needed to train himself so he used to go to different different people who taught him how to fight and concentrate to defeat the guy. I remember one seen where he was with his master and the master asked him to focus and listen to the water drops falling somewhere. That was the place where they used to train. If anyone knows what I am talking about them please please please let me know.
openDeleted Transgender Tropes for Re:Zero Anime
So a while ago I had asked if I should change the page of the character Felis Argyle from Re:Zero to make note that she is a transgender girl, which the story revealed in the prequel volume Ex.1 Dream of the Lion King, and the general consensus was that I should go ahead and do so, and to also cite the post in my reasoning.
I even have the page where she reveals it to the readers, in a scene where its revealed she's been praying to be a girl for six years. https://imgur.com/a/3pNo8Wo
Just right now I found that the character page was altered, by the user Domadordedios, removing any reference to Felis being Trans and gendering them as a guy. They also deleted the Transgender trope, in which this was written.
- Transgender: In the side novel focusing on her backstory, it is revealed that she been praying to be a girl for atleast six years, and is using magic to prevent her body from getting any more masculine. She also gets extremely uncomfortable in men's clothes and addresses herself using feminine Japanese Pronouns.
All of which is true and can be found in the story, mostly within the prequel volume.
The only reason they cite is "Misleading information" without anything else.
What should I do here?

Edited by Gintama200openNeed Help With A Consensus Anime
There's an issue that needs some help with clearing up on Characters.Seton Academy Join The Pack. specifically, whether or not a character, Yena, should be troped as transgender vs a tomboy.
I favor transgender, for reasons I'll give in a moment. The_Spanish_Inquisitor favors tomboy, for reasons I'll let them explain. The disagreement has caused tropes like Transgender being removed in favor of The Lad-ette and Lady Looks Like a Dude. This happened once before with another troper. I replaced the tropes at the time, but now worry I'll stray too far into edit war territory, or spark one myself, if I just change it. As a result, I'm hoping for a consensus to be able to point to on the matter.
A discussion was started
but, three days later, the two of us have been the only participants.
To keep this OP from being too wall of texty, I'll give my reasons for favoring Transgender in the first reply and PM Inquisitor to let them know I started this discussion
Edited by sgamer82openMildly Concerning Attitude Anime
Joining Reaper recently edited the Isekai Quartet page. The edit reason they left is in relation to several weeks ago when an episode of the show came out and they insisted on adding a Early-Bird Cameo entry without confirmation from either Word of God or the show itself that it was the case.
The most recent episode confirmed they were right, but the edit entry they left read as follows: Oh, what's this? Did it turn out that it was Ristarte? Why, who could have told us so? Mayhaps, me', when I told you and you dismissed as speculation?!
This rubs me the wrong way and seems very aggressive. The reason we had the original entry hidden was because it wasn't confirmed.

- Americans Hate Tingle:
- Mineta is reasonably popular in Japan, reaching 17th place on the first popularity poll, but many Western fans loathe him with a passion thanks to him being an obnoxious, cowardly, and tasteless idiot whose Dirty Kid antics are a walking sexual harassment suit waiting to happen, and are wondering why the hell it hasn't gotten him expelled, because creeping on women the way he does is taken extremely seriously in American high schools. Most of them are praying for the day where he either 1) turns evil, 2) dies, or 3) turns evil and then dies so he could be replaced in Class 1-A by Shinso. The fact that Horikoshi has openly admitted Mineta is one of his favorite characters doesn't help matters either. Although even he's losing fans in Japan after his extremely inappropriate comment to Eri.
- The Scrappy: Mineta has a sizable hatedom and tends to rank low on popularity polls. This seems to be attributed to his perverted antics, which to a lot of fans comes across as annoying and/or gross rather than funny, and his arrogant attitude and looking down on others (like Todoroki or Bakugo) despite bringing nothing substantial to anything himself. There's also the fact that his character is painfully underdeveloped compared to others, yet, Horikoshi confessed that he is one of his favorite characters, due to being easy and fun to draw, so he tends to get a lot of screentime and page-time compared to other "side characters" in the class. It doesn't help that he's had virtually zero plot relevance at all since his introduction and has very little character development or exploration in the class. Many fans desperately wish (and write Fix Fic where) he leaves Class 1-A and is replaced by Shinso.
The Scrappy and Americans Hate Tingle are mutally exclusive, so one of these entries have to go. The last paragraph in Americans Hate Tingle implies that he's gotten hate in Japan after the Eri incident, but dosen't say anything if he has recovered from that since then, or if it was a temporary thing.
I'm asking here to get a consensus on what to do, I also asked here
.

Just noticed that the broken base section of strike witches has a massive paragraph that, to my knowledge, belongs in base breaking character and also has a ton of natter. I genuinely think it should be cleaned up. The section I refer to is:
However as far as Hikari goes their has been some occasional disengagements of wither she is an actually good, fleshed out character in her own right that is distinct from Yoshika or if she's just "Yoshika 2.0" (the latter group seems to have mostly died off post release of Brave Witches and even even those few hold outs are as visible and seem to not have sufficient thesis to back such claims up). An additional point of contention with fans is wither Yoshika herself actually is or isn't a Mary Sue. Those who argue she isn't is due to the fact that while Yoshika's magic powers are of greater potential then average; they were unrefined and untrained and Yoshika was faced with sufficient challenges and had to work hard to improve her control of her magic and training as air infantry to become as competent and then as badass as the rest of the 501st, as well as the fact that nothing about Yoshika's magic was not outside of the the ordinary or expected of witches magic in the series. Those who claim she is a Mary Sue argue more to her idealistic personality and the fact her magic returned to her by the end of the movie; however the former tends to be a rather dubious argument and a counterargument to the latter is that witches are known to experience draining of their magical stamina whenever they exert themselves and their magic and thus require time to recuperate with food, water and rest and only older witches seem to experience various degrees of magical entropy or outright loss; and given that at the end of Season 2 Yoshika was still in her prime magically speaking and used a magical sword technique that she barely had enough proper sword training for and how no real magical training done for; it caused her to do the magical equivalent of pulling a muscle and needed a much longer period of time to recover the magical stamina, and likely didn't have a chance to test her magic recovery by the time movie came around until the very end in a serious crisis situation and feeling the inspired desire to fly with her friends again.
