Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Ask the Tropers is for:
- General questions about the wiki, how it works, and how to do things.
- Reports of problems with wiki articles, or requests for help with wiki articles.
- Reports of misbehavior or abuse by other tropers.
Ask the Tropers is not for:
- Help identifying a trope. See TropeFinder.
- Help identifying a work. See MediaFinder.
- Asking if a trope example is valid. See the Trope Talk forum.

openBiting the Hand Humor split Western Animation
BitingTheHandHumor.Fox Animated Shows is split off from BitingTheHandHumor.Western Animation due to length. However, some of the shows listed, like Animaniacs and Futurama, underwent a Channel Hop and have examples pertaining to those other networks or streamers.
Would such examples be listed on the Fox page despite not being targeted towards Fox anymore, or would they be listed on the main Western Animation page? So far the Animaniacs examples have been split between the pages (I think I did that myself?) but going forward I want to double check to avoid duplication.
openHow to ping a troper ?
The title is self-explanatory, how exactly I ping a troper to call their attention ?
openFinal Fantasy XVI ButNotTooGay example removed, no edit reason Videogame
I added But Not Too Gay on Final Fantasy XVI recently, but it was removed by Diracspuddle without an edit reason, to which I've sent them a notifier for. The user is infrequently active, so I don't expect an answer back soon. Edit made here
.
In the context of FFXVI not shying away from some partial nudity and sex scenes where they make use of camera work to hide the naughty bits and kiss scenes between male-female pairings being generally more involved than the one gay kissing scene (characters are further away from the camera with their heads/hair blocking out the kiss itself), in addition to the gay couple not interacting romantically after that point, it seemed like it fit enough for me to be an example.
Is it fine to add the example back in?
Edited by YourIdeasresolved Does Editing on A Non-Banned Person's Behalf Count as Ban Evasion?
If a non-banned person proposes edits in an offsite document but doesn't make the edits themself, then is it alright for someone else to make the edits for them as long as they credit them?
openself-reporting possible edit war
So, while cleaning up Does Not Like Shoes, I cut the entry from a League of Legends page
(the link goes to their re-add, my delete is just below). Number 9 Robotic added it back, and I moved it to the proper name as I decided it actually fit the new definition, and was overly hasty in deleting it. I'm not sure if the re-removal (even if just to move it) counts as an edit war or not, so I figured it best to self-report.
open New NRLEP Crowner!
The tropes in the latest crowner are:
All Women Love Shoes, Black Widow, The Bluebeard, Dead Guy Junior, Discriminate and Switch, Driven to Villainy, G-Rated Drug, Guns in Church, Hollywood Drowning, If Jesus, Then Aliens, The Illuminati, Improbable Taxonomy Skills, In Touch with His Feminine Side, The Jinx, Microwave the Dog, Mindlink Mates, Mirror Self, Not Using the "Z" Word, The Ophelia, Prefers Going Barefoot (formerly Does Not Like Shoes), Red Is Violent, Smoking Is Cool, Smoking Is Not Cool, Vanity Is Feminine, and We Hardly Knew Ye.
openSwitching page type Videogame
I want to turn the Skylanders page from "Video Game" to "Franchise" in order to be able to make individual pages for the games (since when I try to make the pages, they get redirected to the main series page rather than becoming a new page). Is it as simple as just creating a Franchise page and then asking for the Video Game page to be deleted? Can I do it myself here and now or do I need to consult other tropers to do it?

openEntry removed without edit reason on Arthur recap page: okay to restore or not? Western Animation
On Arthur S1 E18 - "Arthur's Chicken Pox" / "Sick as a Dog", this entry was deleted without an edit reason
a while ago by the now perma-suspended
troper TV Lubber:
- Kick the Dog: D.W. almost literally does this when she tells Arthur "We can get a good dog now" when Pal gets sick. She may be only four years old, but that's a rather insensitive remark to make about someone's pet, especially under those circumstances.
The reason I'm asking if this is okay to add back is not only because adding it back without consensus would be an Edit War, but the entry is also negative towards D.W., a character I've been previously been suspended for writing bashy entries about, so I'm worried that re-adding it without consensus from other tropers may be seen as me relapsing in my D.W.-bashing ways and earn me a second suspension. You can see the scene for yourself in this video
starting at 0:05, so you can make an accurate judgement based on the context.
open Skrull Roney, he or she.
In Secret Invasion (2023) Roney, a man. is revealed to have been replaced by a Skrull and that Skurll is a woman, Raava. So far, Raava have only been in one scene as herself. Current entrees however still label her as Roney and use he/him. Should this be changed to saying Raava (or at least Skrull Roney) and she/her or would it only be confusing as Raava has kept on impersonating Roney throughout the series sans the one scene.
openHow do you install page images?
Relatively new Troper here. I find the coding for creating new pages pretty much self-explanatory, except for the installing of page images. Could someone please clue me in on how to do that?
open Is the Red Armband of Leadership applicaple to dictators or not?
I've noticed that despite the fascist connotations of Red Armband of Leadership being acknowledged in the article, I don't see them mentioned in the article itself. Is the trope strictly limited to school uses? It doesn't have a laconic version, and the description in the article doesn't outright say one way or the other?
Edited by DancouMaryuuresolved Broken Base and other Recent Examples in MMOs? Videogame
So today, RuneScape (specifically Runescape 3) got an update that is fairly controversial, regarding the identity of a fairly major NPC, and I'm wondering how to address it on the trope page; RS itself has been out for over twenty years, but the update is literally not even a day old. Do I add a Broken Base example now, or do I have to wait six months from today (January 17th, 2024) to do it?
openAn example that really irks me, I want to correct it but I dont know the thread. Videogame
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SurprisinglyHappyEnding
- Final Fantasy VI seems like it's well on its way some kind of tragic or heavily bittersweet ending after Kefka destroys the world, but whether it gets that way is entirely up to the actions of the player, as any party deaths, as well as the death of Cid, are entirely preventable, with the only hero who's unaccounted for being Banon, and once the party defeats Kefka the ending goes out of its way to show that the "World of Ruin" is on its way to recovery.
This entry completely glosses over the extinction of an entire race of magical beings. The only survivor is the main character Terra who only survived because she's half human. I wanted to add this fact but If I did then it wouldnt be the trope or at least it would argue with itself which is a nono.
Edited by wingedcatgirlopenA question about self-demonstrating character pages
Can anyone add to self-demonstrating character pages as long as their edits fit with the rest of the page (i.e. are written in-character), or is it only the person who created them?
openContent policy related question
Is it okay to make a work page for a story that doesn't even come close to violating the content policy in and of itself, but is only hosted on one site, and said site has tons of other unrelated content on it that *does* violate the policy?
[For an example of the sort of thing I'm talking about, it's like if The Owl House was inexplicably only available on a site that specialized in blatant gay fetish stuff.]
resolved Edit War Film
- Troper Battiste 06 introduced a (faulty) Alternate History entry, which was re-edited countless times until reaching the final form here
- Troper AK 47 Productions cut it here
with a commentary
- Troper Battiste 06 reinstated the entry
without any comment or alternation
On top of that, the entry itself borders on Epileptic Trees, as absolutely nothing in the film even suggests such situation.

Stuart Hardy has a note at the end of the description, allegedly from the man himself, that's written in the first-person. That's not allowed, right?
