resolved Improper namespace
General.Sanctuaryverse has a General/ namespace that I’ve never seen used on any other page. Looking at the page itself, it looks like a Main/ page. EDIT: never mind, there’s already another query about this on the previous page. Disregard.
Edited by loserswithwifiresolved BaseBreakingCharacter EditWar on FFXIV Page. Videogame
Recently Final Fantasy XIV released it's newest expansion, and there has been division about the main focal point character for it, Wuk Lamat. Already people have jumped to adding her as a Base-Breaking Character (someone even put her on The Scrappy about two weeks after the expansion came out before it was removed), despite the expansion only being out for barely a month as of now despite the rules stating otherwise.
Walker B Riley recently added the entry after it was already removed, so I removed it and mentioned how the expansion was new and even if true needs to be discussed first because of how polarizing the subject is, but instead he went ahead and readded it to the YMMV page with the following: "Stop removing her from the list. Wuk Lamat is the single most basebreaking character introduced since Zenos."
Even if the BBC entry is not needing the 6 month period cause its an expansion, they still readded a removed entry without going to discussion. The entry itself is doesn't work well even if it is okay to add her as it is short and barely explains anything: "Wuk Lamat has divided the fanbase in two with her portrayal either praised or hated. The consensus on both sides is she did receive more story involvement that was potentially necessary."
Edited by keyblade333resolved Figuring out how to alphabetize strange example Literature
So, the work Orson Scott Card's Empire is listed on the work page as Orson Scott Card's Empire, however, every source I can find lists the title as simply Empire. I presume this was originally done to prevent confusion with other works of literature with the title Empire, however, currently, there are no other works in the Literature namespace with that title; Empire currently redirects to Empire which is itself a disambiguation page.
The reason I ask is because I was attempting to alphabetize a page and wasn't sure if this page should be put under "O" for Orson or "E" for Empire, which is, as far as I can tell, the proper title for the novel.
Thank you in advance for your help!
resolved where to send page that has improper capitalization
Sorry, been a while since I've been here + I've in general been tired, thought it would just be easier to go to ATT to ask where to send something to be fixed.
Found this page https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Literature/TheShowStoppers
and made a couple edits to it (hid zces, fixed wording in some places, added punctuation) but the capitalization of the page itself shows up wrong (shows up as The Show stoppers rather than The Show Stoppers.) Where do I go to get that fixed? Thanks
resolved Restoring parts of an entry (somewhat NSFW) Videogame
For some context: A while back, I reported a troper
(Halberd Stop Crashing) regarding some entries they added on The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak. In particular, they wrote portions of the Hotter and Sexier to make mention of homoerotic subtext. I removed since we still don't have much information and the game wasn't out in English, since having gay subtext doesn't automatically make a scene sexual. After a while, I got DM from the troper, stating that, "It's a fanservice scene". When I asked for further clarification and evidence, they sent me a .rar folder with screenshots from I can presume is the Fan Translation. At first, I thought it was a sex jokes added to spice things up, but after seeing the scene and using Google Translate, it was confirmed to be somewhat accurate. So I'm asking if parts of the old entry can be restored.
Further links:
- The files they sent me
(the linked ATT also has some screenshots of it but not all of them)
- The trooper's edit
- The Japanese version of the clip
and the English version
(note that I haven't watched the latter because, while I spoiled myself on some aspects of the game, I want to experience the other scenes as blind as possible)
openThis "Does This Remind You of A" Entry in Smiling Friends Western Animation
So, there is an entry in the President Jimble section of the Smiling Friends: Clients that goes like this:
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: He pretty much combines the worst qualities and accusations of presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden.
- Like Trump, Jimble is a Fat Slob in an ill-fitting suit with ego-centered problems and selfish motivations, abused the "presidential alert" system, endorses a widely-condemned foreign dictator and is widely condemned by the international community and local media.
- Like Joe Biden, Jimble is a former Vice President coasting on his predecessor's goodwill, constantly making verbal gaffes during speeches, undermined by his health issues, under fire for supporting a foreign leader who's widely condemned by the international community while, at the other end, receiving extreme support from local media.
Should this be on the page since it sounds a little too political for the general characters' page (granted, the episode that features President Jimble is political, but the episode never made this distinction).
resolved Very belated notice of an edit war
July 2024 update: They're back at it again.
Was doing cleanup, found an analysis page for Unproblematic Prostitution and an out-of-place headline reading "We now break from our usual entertaining content to provide a one-sided editorial as to why sex work is inherently bad. Because, clearly, this is the one right and true analysis of the sex trade.", which was edited the previous January by Iamcuriousblue. According to page history, this wasn't the first time it was added — they first did so in December 2022
, and after it was removed for vandalism
, they added it back in without any edit reason. They also have an edit history of trashing the page on the main
Unproblematic Prostitution page itself, as well as editing out this one passage of the main description
for "out-of-place propaganda for the Nordic Model approach to prostitution" when it was literally just saying an objective fact on some countries passing laws.
This user isn't very active, only between 2021 to 2023, with their editing-back-in-of-vandalism being their last act. I couldn't find any verification if they were at all suspended or punished for their behavior, but I do notice in their edit history they have a suspicious single-issue focus regarding the portrayal of women in sexual or otherwise fanservice-y scenarios, so treating the topic with that level of unprofessionalism is a smidge concerning.
Edited by number9roboticopen"Writers Cartoon". Should it have a page here? Western Animation
I've been on twitter and a couple of John Kricfalusi fanboys (spumdonor and eatmyspum) have been throwing around the expression "writer cartoon".
In a surface level, it seems to refer to animated series that let their dialogue to do all the work when it comes to the comedy whereas the animation take a back seat. These two (and supposedly Kricfalusi himself) hate these kinds of cartoons because they don't take enough advantage of things like going off model or smear frames. Instead,"writer cartoons" rely on pop culture references, puns, Catskill humor, parodies and other things that "kill" the comedy.
Writer cartoons include "Animaniacs", "Tiny Toon Adventures", and I guess everything made by Tom Ruegger.
EDIT: Accourding to "Cartoon Aesthetics" (actually spumdonor's YT account), a writer cartoon is a "cartoon not written by cartoonists".
Edited by Numbuh1507openAnother user removing my WMG entries Videogame
Just now, ttuser023 removed
some content I added
to my own WMG assumptions in WMG.MultiVersus, while at the same time adding an assumption of their own.
As far as I'm aware (since the only content concerning about WMG entries that I know thus far is the description on the main Wild Mass Guessing page), all assumptions should be welcomed regardless of how legitimate and/or outlandish it sounds, unless it doesn't seem too much like a proper theory (which even then seems to be a hard condition to reach in WMG entries). This should imply that while you can remove assumptions you had added yourself beforehand, removing those of other users wouldn't be really allowed.
Aside from sending a PM to ttuser023 so that they can be aware of this query (which I've already done), what should I do in this situation?
Edited by Inky100resolved Question about Zalgo as used in the title of a video
As has been established, the use of Zalgo text is not allowed on the wiki. However, over on YMMV.Si Iva Gunner, I noticed it being used in an entry concerning a video by Siiva. Thing is, AFAIK Zalgo text was what was originally used in the video title, prior to it being renamed — the text is just quoting the video.
With that in mind, is Zalgo OK to use if it's in the original title of a work, or no? And if so, should I retitle the link to match the current title of the video?
Edited by themayorofsimpletonopenWhere do I go to postulate new trope ideas?
I've noticed a few tropes in fiction that don't appear to have pages on this wiki, but I don't really feel capable of undertaking the massive undergoing that is making a new trope page myself.
Is there anywhere on this site I can throw around my ideas, and see if any more experienced tropers find any good enough to pick up?
resolved Is this allowed? Anime
A while ago I made this query
concerning an entry regarding Awesome Music. When I mentioned it in the "Get Help With English Here" thread, someone pointed out
that this user is self-inserting their own opinions (except for the commas, that were a necessary addition). They also removed the %% notice I added about ZC Es and grammar.
openSpeculation? Live Action TV
I found this on Fridge.Ghosts US:
- Many of the ghosts have a power related to who they were as a Living or how they died.
- (Multiple valid entries)
- Hetty's ghost power, if it matches the matriarch of the original, would be the ability to appear in photographs (but not electronic media). This would be in line with her responsibility in life, having to maintain the proper appearance for all the excesses she and Elias (mostly Elias) did during their lives.
As of the end of season three, Hetty's ghost power has not yet been revealed (unless you count being able to use the telephone cord she used to strangle herself as a rope as a power). The entry even mentions that this hasn't yet been confirmed. Would it be okay to delete the entry on Hetty on the grounds of speculative troping?
resolved User with problematic wonk over vtuber drama, and especially complaining about Nijisanji
As pointed out just earlier today
, there was a random entry
on VestigialEmpire/RealLife added a month ago by the troper WM-R that was just an extensive rant against Nijisanji, discussing all the backstage/corporate drama about the company and the handling of its talents. Because this was such blatant misuse I went to check and see if the original writer has demonstrated similar behavior in other pages, and it appears this does seem to be a pattern, especially within the last month:
- Multi-bullet-point rants about Nijisanji and Brave Group Incorporated in Abusive Workplace to discuss their real-life business controversies, in violation of the "real life examples must be at least 5 years old" rule (which frankly, that still sounds too generous for that trope).
- They also added
Abusive Workplace onto the Nijisanji page itself.
- EDIT: It has also been pointed out that WM-R originally came up with and launched the trope earlier this year
. It appears that they never actually had a consensus on whether the trope counted for "no recent examples" and "no real life examples" despite there being concerns about both, and after the page went live, they added in various "sneak-edits" of further documenting vtuber company drama with "do not make public until 5 years from now" notices
, so it doesn't even sound like they were even respecting their own rule.
- They also added
- Adding in many entries about vtuber graduations/identity changes
to Open Secret, most of which were removed as per consensus in the respective cleanup thread
as being in violation of real-life troping, only for them to partly add back in some content
without consulting the thread on the matter (despite them participating in it earlier
).
- Making excessive additions to Pop-Culture Isolation discussing Nijisanji, with very pointed focus on blaming the company for "enforcing" isolation because of its bad practices, while adding in a seemingly irrelevant paragraph about how hololive "avoids" it.
- Making an entry about the Hololive vs. Nijisanji rivalry in Quantity vs. Quality. While technically not an incorrect use of the trope as far as I can tell, it still reads as unnecessary and is reflective of a lot of the OP's anti-Nijisanji rhetoric.
- A lot of various entries
on Culture Clash ranting more about Nijisanji's business practices and how badly they mishandled one particular vtuber in specific, admitted at the very start to be largely speculative ("It's strongly suspected that...") with only minor focus on them being a result of actual cultural divides.
- A lot of entries on YMMV/Nijisanji about its various workplace allegations and controversies, most of which are written to skirt around YMMV guidelines, including inappropriate uses of Never Live It Down (which were since taken down as per cleanup thread
in violation of "no recent examples")
- They added most vtuber entries
onto Unperson/RealLife since February. While technically not incorrect usage, some of these entries are really freaking long and go into a lot of personal detail and speculation (talking about how one person crying as a result of a genmate being retired, or how fans got angry of a vtuber being retired, are completely unnecessary to the point), and the Nijisanji entries naturally read as very biased and trying to emphasize as being "drama".
- Also just in general violating a lot of real-life troping rules that would be insensitive even if it wasn't a vtuber (none of the tropes in question warrant focus on someone's suicide attempt, especially since it's never been actually confirmed and just sounds like gossip, in addition to being weirdly invasive).
I know we have a dedicated vtuber cleanup thread, but this user in particular has added such bad juju regarding vtuber drama across the wiki; can something be done about this?
Edited by number9roboticresolved Too Fanon for Ambiguously Related?
Under Characters.Metroid The Metroids, this was added to Metroid Prime/Dark Samus's Ambiguously Related entry.
- There are theories that Metroid Prime started off as a Phazon Metroid, allowing it to slipping through the seal as they are known to slip through reality, though this itself is a stretch considering Samus didn't encounter any Phazon Metroids on Tallon IV.
Is this too much into fan speculation for a non-YMMV? Or is it allowable given the speculative nature of this trope? (Note their Metroid relation is a mess of conflicting continuity and retcons.)
openExample from Rudolph Special
I would fix it myself, but I don't want an Edit War. The example...
- Artistic License – Music: The Elf Foreman claims the tenor section of his song was weak. While this may be the case In-Universe, to the viewers there was actually a tenor and it was quite clear.

Since really getting into Korean webtoons in the last two years, there's a certain character archetype that shows up in like 90% of romantic fantasy novels and I'm surprised it isn't here yet so maybe I've just missed it. Its become so common that people have even made jokes memes about him and different series have started calling the trope out even when playing it straight.
That man is the Cold Duke of the North! He has short black hair cut, red or blue eyes (and if they're red its distinct to either himself or his family), and a love for black clothing with bits of jewelry hanging off. He is also known for being an *incredibly* well-built hunk of man meat and yes we the reader will always see him with his shirt undone or off at some point to make sure we know how stacked he is. Despite appearing emotionless to everyone around him, his heart will thaw usually on first sight when he sees our lovely lady protagonist, who he will remark is "interesting." The guy has a tragic past and a reputation as a cold-hearted butcher of the battlefield, and his northern domain is akin to Winterfell in both temperature and regular monster invasions which he has take point in fending off for the rest of the Empire. His cold demeanor means a significant chunk of the story involves communication problems in the central relationship with the female lead that any normal person could resolve through a five second conversation. Also it means the vast majority of stories starring one of these fellows as the male romantic lead features a contract relationship at the center of it that everyone thinks the female lead is bonkers for entering into because of his fearsome reputation.
Do we not have this a trope that already covers this specific main character archetype?
