openThe Island Of Doctor Moreau RP Web Original
there is this dead roleplaying group on Gaia online called The Island Of Doctor Moreau (Io DM) that ran from August 2005 to June 2007.
The main idea behind the setting is a modern version of the classic H.G. Wells' story, though instead of animals being surgically altered into humans, people (usually unwilling victims) are brought or tricked onto the island and genetically altered through a series of injections over several months to become animal/human hybrids. The Dr. Moreau of the island is one Dr. Nicholas Moreau, a descendent of the Dr. Moreau of literary fame. And the only difference between the setting for the story and the real world, other than the existence of the island and the "science" on it, is that the classic book was never written. The island is fairly-sized but small enough to not be on most notations. It is about twenty miles across at the widest points. Most of it is covered by deep jungle, though areas have been clear-cut for the village (the collection of duplexes the subjects live in) and the labs (which are surrounded by a high-voltage electric fence. The labs are built into the side of a dormant volcano that is in the center of the island. Sandy beaches are on the west side of the island, a rockier ledge on the east. There is a network of caves within the island itself. There is also a freshwater river system through the island and a large lake near the village.
On the island itself, the whole system is highly monitored - think Big Brother. There are hidden cameras in all of the subjects' duplexes and all over the island. Each subject is inserted with a microchip in the back of their necks that tracks their location on the island and allows them to be "buzzed" unconscious in the event of a bad fight or in order to administer them their follow up injections. Even the staff of the island is not allowed communication off the island, and a couple of staff members have even been turned into subjects due to misbehavior. Thus far, there have been no successful escape attempts.
But, all in all, the subjects are usually treated well, despite the kidnapping and being turned into an animal-creature. They are each assigned a duplex and have free reign over the island (with the exception of the labs, which are sectioned off by an electric fence). There is a cafeteria, entertainment room with movies and video games, sunny beaches, and deep tropical jungles. However, more than one lab tech has a cruel streak (it takes a certain kind of person to be picked to work for the labs) and use the subjects for some less than ethical psychological tests.
I thought you could make a media page of it

openCan I make a trope page about myself? Web Original
Before I begin. Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong spot! I glanced around, not exactly thoroughly, but this seems like a good place to post a general question. If I'm not using the forum right or there is a better place. Please just let me know! I'll delete or lock or whatever I'm supposed to do before going to the right forum.
Anyhow I've been lurking on T Vtropes for a while now, great site, and I was thinking of trying to make a page. The problem is that I don't know if I'm actually allowed to do that given what I want to do. For clarity I'm a youtuber specilizing in lets plays hence why I put this in web original. I thought it be better then video games. I'm a pretty shitty one and by no means a proffesional, but I thought it be a fun thing to try and do. Regardless I should stop rambling. If I'm doing anything wrong just let me know and I'll see what I can do to fix it.
Edit: Query has been answered!
Edited by DoomRPGresolved Serious Business in SCP Foundation Web Original
Yesterday, Doctor Nemesis added following as example of Serious Business.
I removed as being too generic. They add modified version today
And claims that it's no worse than the first entry.
Should it be removed again, and if so, should the first one removed as well?
Note that its entry in SeriousBusiness.Web Original has none of that. It has only one In-Universe example (there were two, but I've just removed the first one).
openWhich Tropes Are These? Web Original
I have questions about tropes in The JWL. I think these might be examples of Morton's Fork or The Chessmaster or Batman Gambit but I'm really not sure.
At JWL SuperBrawl I
, the main event was the 22-woman Royal Rumble for the JWL Women's Title
. Jacqueline came in at #8 and, to everyone's surprise, singlehandedly eliminated Chyna. Instead of staying in the match, Jackie eliminated herself and she and Chyna fought to the back. The following night, on Episode 22
, Jackie challenged Chyna to a match at JWL WrestleMania I
. Jackie won a Squash Match on Episode 23. After winning a Squash on Episode 24, Jackie called out Chyna to accept her challenge, and here is where the tropes I am asking about come into play.
CHYNA: "Look Jackie, you're the only one who would benefit from this match. I beat you, big deal, I beat someone much smaller than me. You beat me, I end up looking weak because I lost to someone smaller. I have nothing to gain. So give me one good reason why I should face you at WrestleMania."
JACQUELINE: "Because if you don't, I'll tell everyone week after week that you are a coward! That you ain't got the guts to face me. I will torment you and make your life a living hell. In fact, I'm raising the stakes. You versus me at WrestleMania in a Loser-Leaves-the-JWL match!"
Crowd pops at the thought of being rid of Chyna. Chyna is on the spot now and has to respond.
CHYNA: "I admit it would feel really good to kick your ass out of the JWL and prove that I am superior. You're on for the Loser-Leaves-the-JWL match at WrestleMania!"
Along with identifying which tropes these were, should they be listed on the main page or the character sheets? Thank you very much.
Edited by KJTropesopenCreator / Work Page Confusion Web Original
The page WebVideo.Loading Ready Live currently acts as a collective works page for the shows that LoadingReadyRun streams on their Twitch channel. The problem is that "LoadingReadyLive" is no longer the name of their Twitch channel, and it hasn't been for quite some time, it's now the name of a specific show.
So what should be done with this page? I see two possible options:
- Rename the page "LoadingReadyRun Streams" and leave everything else the same.
- Overhaul the page to focus exclusively on the "LoadingReadyLIVE" show and move everything else over to WebVideo.Loading Ready Run.
There's also the issue that "LoadingReadyRun" is both the name of the group itself and also the name of their (pre-recorded) comedy sketches. Should we have WebVideo.Loading Ready Run focus just on the sketches and move everything else over to Creator.Loading Ready Run? Or should we make WebVideo.Loading Ready Run Sketches? Or is this one not that big of a deal?

They added the following under Hype Backlash on YMMV.Gen Lock:

And they also commented out the following example on Awesome.Gen Lock:

openWhere should I put The Worf Effect? Web Original
I'm still clean up Characters.SCP Foundation from time to time. There're several examples of The Worf Effect across those pages, about various skips that the Foundation is simply unable to do anything meaningful with it.
The question is, is The Worf Effect a plot trope (the defeat of strong character) or character trope (the strong character that keep get his ass kicked)? The laconic page of The Worf Effect suggest that the trope's focus is the character, but the trope description seems to indicate that the focus is the event itself.

openTroll edit of The Guy with the glasses; needs fixing Web Original
Peng 1 recently deleted nearly everything off That Guy with the Glasses and replaced it with a single line denouncing the show. I'm not capable of fixing the page myself since I don't really know how the editing works, plus I'm not sure what the proper response to said troper is. Regardless, figured I should bring it up, even if I'm not entirely sure this is the right place... And now another troper, Magicwolf 78, in his own words, plugged his favorite book series on the page as well.
Edited by Hero2014resolved Christian Potter Chandler. Web Original
Hoo boy. Fanfic.Christian Potter Chandler is a Harry Potter fanfic that replaces the title character with... well, you can guess. The fic proceeds to imply that preteen Chris-chan touches himself at night, among other things.
Anyone else think this one should get the Asperchu treatment?
Edited by bwburke94openLinks to Video Reviews Web Original
I've been noticing an increasing number of articles that have "Hilariously reviewed by popular youtube critic LINK" or "you can watch a great let's play here LINK" as the bottom paragraph. Is this appropriate?
These links can be fun, but putting them in top of the page seems inconsistent at best and like ugly self promotion at worst.
openRegarding Website/Pixiv search tags. Web Original
It seems that after applying links for the Pixiv work page's "troped tags" section, the search tag function doesn't seem to work in Pixiv because all the Japanese texts are automatically converted to unicode, nor can the tags be linked to Pixiv dictionary. It's not just mine, but it also happens to other links. Is there anything I can do? Or should all the listed tropes be converted into only about the site itself?

PerpetualJellyfish
made an edit on YMMV.Death Battle saying that the way one character died was meant to make their fans angry. MasterHero
removed their edit because it was biased. PerpetualJellyfish went back and readded it, added more nattery edits, and removed parts of the page that tried to give a more neutral stance on the fight's outcome, with this edit reason:
openApplicability Web Original
I was browing the YMMV.The Nostalgia Critic page and noted an entry on applicability.
" Applicability: Autistic fans have welcomed Critic with open arms, with Doug comparing him to similarly coded Peridot, and Home Alone 2 bringing back the cereal special interest, all the nerves from the episode resulting in a meltdown when it's mocked and getting forgiven when he stresses out over thinking he ruined it. Hyper Fangirl has her fair share of Misaimed Fandom, but her most devoted audience are neuroatypical women who relate to her struggles and want to see her get better (without Critic having to forgive her). "
I didn't know what applicability as a trope was until I looked at the Laconic page, but it says "Word of God asks the audience to make up their own mind about the theme." which doesn't seem to fit these examples... and neither do many examples on the applicability page itself.
"Prometheus was designed for Wild Mass Guessing. One moment of Idiot Ball could mean an hour of theorizing behind why it is so. "
"The Day the Earth Caught Fire (1962) was made long before global warming and climate change became big issues, but is still about climate change which has been caused accidentally by technology (simultaneous nuclear tests at the north and south poles change the tilt of the Earth's axis)."
"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is a case of confusing applicability with allegory. The connection between The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the then-contemporary American political landscape was not even raised until 1963, when summer school teacher Henry Littlefield, while trying to teach the 1896 Presidential election and the turn-of-the-century Populist movement to bored history students, stumbled upon the idea of using the characters and events of The Wizard of Oz as metaphors to teach the concepts. He and his students made a number of connections - the Scarecrow represented the farmers, the Tin Woodman the factory workers, the Wizard was President Grover Cleveland or Republican presidential candidate William Mc Kinley, the Cowardly Lion was Democratic presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan, the silver shoes were the silver standard, the yellow brick road the gold standard, and so on - and Littlefield eventually wrote an article, "The Wizard of Oz: A Parable on Populism," which was published in the magazine American Quarterly in 1964. You can read this article here. Unfortunately, this was eventually taken to mean that Baum wrote the book as an allegory for the political landscape at the turn of the century despite the fact Littlefield believed Baum had no political agenda when he wrote the book."
" Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid is open to many allegorical interpretations, as are its various adaptations."
So, what is applicability and are these examples valid/applicable? Should the Laconic page be rewritten?
Edited by lalalei2001resolved Nostalgia Critic Awesome Moments Web Original
On the Nostalgia Critic Awesome Moments page, there is a bit of conflict over whether this example from the Blues Brothers 2000 review should be included: "The Critic's constant tearing into Blues Brothers 2000 for being a severe downgrade of the original. He even goes out of character at a few points, one in which he interrupts his "Fuckital" ad to show the statue of The Blues Brothers atop the Hollywood Blvd. Theater to show how the original movie is such a symbol of Chicago." Some people said this shouldn't be included because in the skit, there was a Black Comedy bit where one of the characters overdoses on the "Fuckital" and is implied to have died, with them saying that it shouldn't be an awesome moment because the Critic was more concerned with a bad movie than someone else's life. While in-universe, it may be the Critic being selfish, from a meta perspective, the creator, Doug Walker was making a statement about the movie's poor quality and calls out how it fails to live up to the original film. So should it be included?
Edited by costanton11openSo, I want to create a work page for my review series? Web Original
Hello. I'll admit is kind of selfish, but, I used to work on a series of reviews for many years, even having some sort of mascot for it, and I wish to create a work page for it on this site. However, what rules should the workpage should have, since, well, you know, is my own work and I think there should be a restriction to it, right?

openDifficulty Figuring Out a Trope Web Original
I have an entry I want to add to In Spite of a Nail but I wasn't sure it counted, due to having a bit of an Entry Pimp habit when it's a series I like a lot, so I'm trying to get it vetted. I haven't had any luck in Trope Talk, either with the Is This an Example Thread or a dedicated thread
on the matter, so I thought I'd try here.
I've only gotten one response on the matter, from Fighteer
, who said that the two worlds/timelines involved seemed to different than was normally allowed under the trope. The question I've been pondering since is, isn't that the point? My understanding of the trope is that despite the differences involved between two universes or real life and the fictional setting, certain significant events still occur more or less the same? I've gone through a few versions, but this is the most recent version of the entry.
Any and all help is appreciated.
- In the Red Panda Adventures episode "The World Next Door" and its Sequel Episode, "A Dish Best Served Cold" a time traveler from an Alternate Timeline's World War II named Baboon McSmoothie convinces the Depression era Red Panda to help him steal the prototype of an invention that would one day become a major part of the Nazi war effort by offering him the case file of a Villain Team-Up that killed his Red Panda's Flying Squirrel. It's noted in-universe that there are enough differences between the two worlds, such as the Red Panda's costume being different, the alternate Flying Squirrel being a teenage boy instead of an adult woman, and three out of five members of the Villain Team-Up being either Gender Flipped or having different identities entirely, that neither the Red Panda nor McSmoothie are sure how much, if any, of the file's information will be relevant. Despite these differences, the conference the prototype was to be displayed at, the Villain Team-Up, and eventually World War II itself, all occur across both timelines. The conference in particular is part of the reason the main universe was picked for McSmoothie's heist in the first place, besides avoiding a Temporal Paradox.

In my most recent edit for this page, I accidentally shared a spoiler in my reason for it. It was supposed to be marked, but I guess it slipped my mind. Could someone please fix this for me? I'd do it myself, but I don't know how.
