openPossible issue with YMMV item at Roots (2016) Live Action TV
Okay, so usually I'm good leaving YMMV entries alone even if I disagree, but this seemed...a touch disturbing. The entry:
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Despite roughly half of the miniseries focusing on Kunta Kinte and his future generations portraying him almost as a messianic figure, a steadfast Mandinka warrior who never gave in, more often than not he comes across as little more than a spoiled Jerkass, even before his enslavement (picking fights in a dance circle, for example). His own father even calls him out for being irresponsible by saying he "won't be around forever to fix {Kunta Kinte's} mistakes". After his enslavement, his "sense of identity" isn't helped by his constant reference to Mandinka warriors; he was nearly kicked out of warrior training for insubordination and reckless endangerment, becoming one solely on an emergency-induced technicality. Even then, the last his parents saw of him was taking a horse his father gifted him and attempting to leave for Timbuktu without warning (and story-wise, without cause). What really makes him unsympathetic, even despite the new dark, bigoted, racist, and unforgiving setting of Virginia, is that not only does he never come to understand just how his rebellious actions hurt those who simply wanted to get by and survive (he could have at least ASKED Fiddler if he wanted to help in his second escape attempt, since aiding in a slave's escape was punishable by lynching, even if the offender was white), but he convinces otherwise passive and generally well-off slaves to become rebels, including his own daughter. The show tries to portray this as them rediscovering their roots and who they really are, but ultimately falls flat since not only does it end up getting them into trouble they otherwise would not get into, but neither case do they ever actually FIND their identity. Hell When Fiddler/Henry is killed in his Moment of Awesome, Kunta Kinte STILL calls him "Fiddler", despite already knowing his name is Henry. Well done, Toby.
Okay, I'm not sure I need to point out how...problematic this is, but it's essentially victim-blaming a slave in the American south for...fighting back? For trying to start a slave rebellion? And nevermind the really, really problematic language of "passive and well off slaves"
I kind of think this one needs to be stricken.
open Second opinion on this edit to UsefulNotes.Transgender
So Pastychomper made an edit to UsefulNotes.Transgender that changes the page to make the biologically essentialist claim that members of "the male sex" are more inclined towards crime. This isn't great on its own.
While the wording "but no correlation is seen between transgender status and violence" might seem positive on the surface, it looks alarmingly similar to the common transphobic assertion 1) "Males" are inherently criminal and 2) Trans women are "males". Often by deliberately misinterpreting the results of a particular study to claim this is the case (which the researchers outright went on TV to debunk). To the point it feels like it's trying to imply it without actually saying it.
Permission to change it back?
openAnother Suspected 4tell0life4 Sock
I'm starting to suspect that Cat Villianess is another sockpuppet of 4tell0life4
. Their entire edit history
is nothing but edits to Genshin Impact, Honkai Impact 3rd, and other work pages from miHoYo, which checks out with a common pattern that 4tell is known for doing. They tried to ban evade twice prior as Coconutkirin (bounced by Fighteer
) and as Knarf Handsome (previous query exposing them here
). Here's a list of each account's edit histories to compare with:
EDIT: Investigation turned up negative, so please disregard.
Edited by CytoZytokineresolved Complaining and rude troper
phylos added an entry filled with complaining to this page
. They later removed it...with an edit reason that included the line "Even this entry is more than what this piece of shit movie deserves". It was observed in the cleanup thread
where the example got brought up that phylos has been inserting misuse and complaining into YMMV pages lately. I sent them a notifier and got a response today, which wasn't very cooperative.
open Report Troper
Unlike a bunch of my other reports, this actually has nothing to do with CM/MB related matters, hence why it's public, but it's a report all the same.
I have concerns about Robert TYL's behavior on ATT. Put bluntly, he seems really giddy to get people in trouble for things, whether or not said things even happened in the first place, and they usually carry a rather aggressively sarcastic tone along the way.
- Here he is
reporting an edit war that didn't actually happen (it includes the qualifier "sort of", but it's not "sort of" anything, it's just not an edit war)
- Here he is
reporting an edit war from before the user in question was suspended for another edit war (normally I'd say accidents happen, but he knew the date the user was released
from their suspension). It includes random things like comparing the edit histories of two users when it's not relevant, then trying to get them for ZCE problems when they haven't received any notifiers.
- He then reports the same user
for ZCE problems and again doesn't send a notifier first, claiming that Mac said she did when that rather clearly wasn't the case. It also includes things like putting the user's "good behavior" in EB in quotes, for what I can only assume is a negative insinuation.
- Here he is
reporting an edit war with a GASP! just to be snarky.
- Now here he is
sending pages to the cut list because a user who later became a ban evader made them, even though they were made before the user ban evaded. When called out that that's not how the rules work, his only response was "who's gonna miss em".
- I normally wouldn't jump to a report already, but he's been reported for similar issues, especially the unnecessary snark, multiple
times
before.
Basically, he seems really keen to report people without actually taking the steps to remedy the issue first or even correctly identify that an issue exists to begin with, and the fact that this stuff is still happening after he's been reported and talked to multiple times raises a red flag for me. Am I crazy there?
Edited by MacronNotesopenEditing bias, suspended multi-account concern
About three years ago, I made this
query about a Troper named cheedo making edits to Game of Thrones pages that seemed pro-Sansa to the point of being anti-Dany / anti-Arya.
The edits of HelaenaHightower
are similarly biased, imo. For example, they claim here
that Sansa never lied regarding Lady attacking Joffrey, and Arya lied about how bad the bite was. This is the scene in question:
- She blinked at her sister, then at the young prince. "I don't know," she said tearfully, looking as though she wanted to bolt. "I don't remember. Everything happened so fast, I didn't see..."
So she did factually lie, but besides that there's their snippy "pay attention" comment in the edit reason.
Suspected bias aside, I'm wondering if Helaena Hightower is a secondary account for cheedo (who does not appear to have been edit banned, at least according to the thread). There's a slight overlap between the end of cheedo's editing history and the beginning of HH's, and they both edit pages for The Addams Family and The Munsters.
Edited by iamconstantineopenPossible homophobic agenda?
I was looking through the edit history of YMMV.Bigtop Burger and I noticed Hfuyfdahg deleted this without an edit reason:
- Dry Docked Ship: Plenty of fans like to paint Steve and Cesare's rivalry as them being estranged exes.
I looked through their edit history to see if this was a one-time thing or if it was an agenda, and I noticed they only have 6 edits from the 27 of March 2019 to the 13th of November 2021. One of those edits was a removal of this on Awesome.Stone Cold Steve Austin, also without an edit reason:
Granted, the link doesn't direct me to a specific article, but the lack of edit reason as well as the other edit make this seem suspicious.
openTroper deleting YMMV for no apparent reason
meatwadf has been removing content from several YMMV articles without leaving any edit reasons. I'm not sure about which ones warrant a reversion, but you can check their edit history here
.
Edit: Forgot to mention I've sent them a notifier. And JRads47 had already warned him before
as well.
openEditing with an agenda?
~marvig's most recent edit was to remove an entry on Feminist Fantasy on Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, with no edit reason.
Looking at their history (courtesy link
), they've made a dozen or so edits since July.
Of them, their edits to something called Hadestown and its subpages have all been laser focused removals of mentions it has anti-capitalist themes.
Softened an entry on Fanon Discontinuity on YMMV.Digimon Tamers (notably removing a pothole to Death of the Author) referring to the author's right wing views appearing explicitly in a recent audio drama.
Edits to WebVideo.Civvie11 removing mentions of take thats towards "Anti-SJWs" (and inserting a ZCE saying there were jabs at Randy Pitchford for some reason).
The only two edits that aren't clearly suspect (but still odd) is an (again, with no edit reason) removal of the entire More Popular Spin-Off entry for YMMV.Um Jammer Lammy and an edit on YMMV.Black Widow 2021 removing mention of the COVID pandemic and some of the film's themes on a Critical Dissonance entry.
openQuestionable gender edits.
Ninten Fire Swag 20 has been doing edits regarding the gender of nonbinary actors that I feel are kinda going into transphobic and/or enbyphobic territory, such as labeling Corrina Boettger and Skyler Davenport as "actor/actress" on the Creators on the Autism Spectrum page when both solely go by they/them pronouns as far as I can tell, and doing similar edits elsewhere, the former I reverted.
(And also being clunky to read besides)
openPolitical editing removing the word "white" everywhere
Peterpol 94, who's been suspended for political editing previously, has edited politically again. From a section describing Noam Chomsky's view of the world, he removed the word "white" from the sentence "Also, the owners of almost all media groups are rich, white men". Regardless of whether you agree with whether the sentence is true, this is a description of Noam Chomsky's worldview, and part of that view is that the owners are white. Removing that part seems politically motivated.
Equally motivated seems the case when the words "to wake white America up to the horrors of slavery." were changed to "to wake up the North of America to the horrors of slavery." To be fair, it might be more accurate—I don't know enough about U.S. history to tell. Still, it seemed as if it warranted a mention.
Earlier, he removed the word "white" from the sentence "a lot of white Americans seem to think that any Hispanic people are 'Mexican'."
Also, he wrote the following poorly-grammaring entry:
- "Perhaps the father of the propaganda or public relations machine Austrian-American Edward L. Bernays. Responsible for selling cigarettes to women, ww1 to the U.S. public, the bacon and eggs All-American breakfast, and the Guatemalan coup. His published book Propaganda in 1922 inspired Goebbels."
open Problem Troper?
Heart Of Stone has a very short, but very...interesting edit history so far.
- Including
this trope description deletion and...interesting edit reason.
- Removing
entries of The Scrappy without any consensus, and then removing related entries on the same YMMV page.
- Look, I don't know if this one
is accurate or what, but another troper came in with a weed whacker to cut it down, which suggests it was at least a bit excessive.
Feels pretty agenda-y.
openMisusing Troper
RileyGronlundSuperMario who was previously suspended for deliberate mis-information and improper trope use is back at it again.
- Misusing
Adaptational Wimp for a Spongebob bubble of all things.
- They overlooked
how X Must Not Win is to be used.
- They write
negative
comments
towards characters they dislike.
- Lacking
a link to the work they've written about.
- These
Strawberry Shortcake entries
are written
with way too much exaggeration.
- Adding
a film that didn't have a Downer Ending to that page just to use one of its scenes as an example with misuse of flanderization.
- A random youtuber
isn't an example of Boss Subtitles just for adding them to games that doesn't use them.
openBoomerang123 still causing problems
Back in April
, Boomerang 123 was reported for shoehorning and complaining, and suspended. In August
(months after being unsuspended), they edit warred over an example, complaining in the process, and tried to justify themselves by saying that "they were right" (even after being sent a notifier).
Fast forward two months, and there's still problematic edits from them. Among other things, there's:
- Complaining about shows they don't like
- A questionable edit where one of the traits they listed for a Jerkass entry was "ugly"
(which I fail to see how being "ugly" is a Jerkass trait).
- Multiple dubious and seemingly shoehorned Hindsight entries.
- One particular
Values Resonance entry which had to be removed on account of being a potential ROCEJ violation.
Edit history here
.

DISCLAIMER: I do not have a vendetta/grudge against this user. I am simply concerned for him and the Hollers weren't enough for him to change his behavior even by a little bit, so I decided to make this ATT Report.
First off, they were the user I was talking about in this query
as I merely wanted to Holler him for his concerning behavior, mainly about his wonk about a South Park scene and showing it to other people even if it's determental.
He then brought it up again a couple of days later here
. Another user impiled that his obession might not be healthy. Prior to that post, I already sent him two Hollers. Assuming the mods read them and sent him a message about it in his PMs, he hasn't listened.
In general, as someone else puts its, he seems too erratic and cynical for his own good. For example, he has some sort of wonk towards Online Reviewers, particuraly those of the Caustic Critic kind, and holds their opinion as gospel even if he disagrees with them at the cost of his well being. I also recall that he stated he wanted to hurt himself over the opinions of these critics and asked why people wanted him to stop worrying about their opinions after that.
Here are
some of
his posts that show that.
Next, one about his paranoia over a work that seems to be excessive
and one that mentions a past trauma that he seems troubled by
(TW for animal cruelty/death for that one). They also seem quite self-conscious about their writting and fear that he'll get hated over it, as seen in the first of these Writer's Block posts.
Overall, a quite worrying troper and I made this ATT report to get other users' and mods' attention since the Hollers apparently weren't enough for him.
Edited by Cutegirl920fireopenDeadnaming Chris-Chan Literature
On the page for A Girl Who Brought Down the World, Hoota made the
following
edits
, which seem to refer to her
with her deadname and deadpronouns.
While I understand that Christine is already a controversial figure in more ways than one, I thought it right to refer to her using her preferred name and pronouns since the page for the Sonichu webcomic uses that name.
Should we continue to use the preferred name for Christine? I already reverted the edits this person made, but I'm still not entirely sure.
Edited by YuriHaru567openCharacter Page Vandalism Western Animation
axwi07 made deletions to Voltron: Legendary Defender - Team Voltron, likely motivated by shipping. Notably removing any entries referring to Shiro and Keith's relationship as platonic or to the fact that Shiro ended up with someone else (I have my own various thoughts about those two relationships but regardless, what's official is what's official; canon doesn't care about quality or subtext and trope pages are not the place to share your personal criticisms). The most generous one I can give them is the decision to leave off Heterosexual Life-Partners given that Shiro is not heterosexual, but the trope itself points out that it doesn't care about such things.
I could easily revert it myself but I think a proper warning is worth having given the fact that we've had other shipping-based vandalism for this work in the recent past. Let them report to their fellow shipper brethren that this kind of behavior is not to be tolerated.
Edited by AlleyOopopenTerminator: Dark Fate Might Warrant a Preemptive Lock
May be a bit too early, but the Terminator: Dark Fate page is a potential powder keg waiting to go off.
So, several Youtube reviews have come out regarding Terminator: Dark Fate, and....it looks like it's going down the same route as Ghostbusters (2016), Captain Marvel and The Last Jedi. In fact, in several of the highest-viewed Youtube reviews, most people compared the movie to those films for better or worse.
Without going into spoiler territory, there is a LARGE contingent of fans who feel betrayed by the direction the film goes in. With one review
going so far as to say that "too many women" was their FIRST major criticism. You can look at the comments section of similar fan reviews
and there's a similar sentiment. "Feminism and SJ Ws" are blamed for the movie's plot, casting and direction. Also, there's a lot of hate being directed towards James Cameron because of a major plot reveal.
Even positive reviews are being bombed
by comments and a relatively high number of downvotes which accuse the reviewers of being paid shills.
Again, I may be a little too quick to announce that the sky is falling, but at the very least, I wanted to get eyes on the issue.

Found on the Real Life page:
Initially I thought this was a case of Repair, Don't Respond out of differing personal opinions about police and the attack, but it seems CaptEquinox added the entire entry. I would like to merely correct it to "Police officers [the names] who...", but I wanted to get a second opinion first.
