openDethroning moments and too literal Web Original
This was deleted on Dethroning Moment.Cracked:
- SCP Ihpkmn: Not a dethroning moment for the site as a whole, but for the authors of a particular article: Winston Rowntree and David Wolinsky, the former of whom does the webcomic Subnormality. 4 Ways You Are Being 'Aged Out' of Video Games
starts out by comparing video games as a whole to building blocks. And it gets worse, with the end result devaluing all articles made by these authors previously. Statements made within include:
- The ET Videogame (AKA the worst video game in history) is no different from Overwatch
- "You Can't Find A Sense Of Community In Games". Yes, it's not like there is such a thing as multiplayer nor are there entire fandoms that create art/music/stories/cosplay/etc. based around videogames!
- The Assassin's Creed Creed, which has the typical disclaimer from the Assassins Creed (multicultural team dedicated to historical authenticity, etc.) followed by a statement about how the designers essentially just do it for a cheap, violent thrill.
- It talks about how the perspective on video games gets more sour as you age, but you still buy it. Several people who have been gaming for probably longer than Rowntree has been alive proceeded to call her out in the comments. Essentially, the reaction to the article has been either a Flat "What" or a "No. Just… No" Reaction.
With the edit reason: It can only be a specific moment, the example describes multiple moments, which violate the rules
I feel like that's taking the letter of the rule past the spirit. What I felt the example was doing was going over the specific problems with the article. Since cracked was known for writing articles, I feel it falls under the purview for a moment to be an entire article. Most other examples list articles on the page, and plenty of Dethroning Moment pages for tv shows list episodes. Is the latter wrong, or can I add the example back?
openCan I make a Sandbox for a sub-page? Web Original
I want to revamp the Characters sub-page for the "Kunio-kun" series, and I even made an outline for how I want to revamp it
, but I don't have enough information to go through with it yet. Because of this, I was thinking of maybe opening up a Sandbox page instead to workshop the idea, but I don't know if that's allowed for sub-pages or only exclusive to main pages.
resolved YMMV/BobChipman Has Two Edits that Concern Me Web Original
As you can see here
, one Nord Ronnoc has added two edits that, to be blunt, I think are bad-faith edits. Even if they're right about the innacuracies re: the Auteur Theory, both of them feel really bashy and complainy, Agenda-Based Editing.
You can agree with Bob's views or you can not agree with Bob's views. Nothing wrong with either on the face of it. But this feels like an attempt to import drama from Twitter that doesn't necessarily directly affect Bob's work, and I for one want no part of that. Let's at least talk about it, right?
Oh, and yes, I am messaging NordRonnoc to come here, before anyone asks. They need to be a part of this too, for good or for ill.
Edited by MinisterOfSinisteropenPossible edit warring in the RWBY YMMV page. Web Original
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=YMMV.RWBY
In the article history, bobg edited an edited out paragraph, then spammed with a "we discussed it and agreed" thing, but Rebel Falcon deleted it and then threatened with an accusation of edit warring.
openControversy over HG101 Web Original
Hardcore Gaming 101 got flack over what appears to be targeted harassment against a fan translator
. Should I put this in Overshadowed by Controversy or just avoid it?
openAbridged Series Web Original
Okay, an issue I should have asked about ages ago, but...
Does The Abridged Series examples go in the "Fan Works" folder, or fit better in "Web Videos"?
They had a tendency to be put in "Web Original", which is wrong as it shouldn't be a catch-all folder, and besides abridged series are fan works and thus not "original". But now a distinct "Web Videos" folder is more standard.
Mind you, I've seen them in "Web Animation" too.
openDoes it count as RoleEndingMisdemeanor? Web Original
So I was reading the examples in Role-Ending Misdemeanor web original page and I just happened to find a new example made by Scoutstr 295 which I feel like it doesn't count as a tropes. Here's the example:
- Until July 2020, Shane Farley was a prominent member of the YouTube channel Blind Wave, which is primary known for its Reaction Videos. Then, in a surprise announcement, it was decided that Shane would no longer be participating in the channel due to unspecified reasons, with Shane confirming his departure in a video streamed on Twitch. The other members of Blind Wave haven't gone into detail about what led to Shane leaving, except to stress that he hadn't done anything illegal, that he had undermined their trust by lying to them, and that the decision for him to leave was by mutual agreement (i.e. he wasn't actually fired).
openOverlapping character pages due to misnamed work Web Original
Transformers: War for Cybertron is sharing its character page with the unrelated Transformers: War for Cybertron because someone misnamed the former. The show is actually called Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy (also, I'm not sure if it counts as Web Animation if it's a Netflix original, since Castlevania isn't considered web animation, and War for Cybertron calls itself an anime).
Can I move it? And if yes, should it be to Transformers War For Cybertron Trilogy, Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy or Transformers War For Cybertron Trilogy?
openBigNameFan in RoleEndingMisdemeanor Web Original
On 8/2, Not Gonna Do A Lot 4 added the below entry to the Web Original page. I was trimming some of them for not fitting for various reasons, and removed it, citing that Big Name Fan did not seem to be a valid trope to justify that. By that logic, any time any fan of any person does something bad and gets banned or deletes their social media accounts, they would qualify, which sounds silly.
They readded it citing There Is No Such Thing as Notability. Is this a valid justification or should we not allow that? The REM page gets a lot of entries that don't fit as it stands.
- Plussy Knight, a Big Name Fan of YouTuber Alpharad
, deleted his Twitter account after being caught exploiting the COVID-19 Pandemic to fake his own death.
openComplaining page Web Original
In a nutshell, there's this recent page (What An Idiot/RWBY) that has been turned into a magnet for complaining and a field for a costant Edit War. Although there are some valid and reasonable examples, they are in a sea of misused ones. On the discussion page there's already an agreement on deleting the page, therefore I'm asking if a Moderator can remove it
open Mod revert needed Web Original
On Characters.RWBY Salems Faction, Rissis
has accidentally deleted an entire character folder while reorganizing character order, while also deleting some tropes in various folders. None of this was approved nor discussed.
openAbout "OOC Is Serious Business" involving Vic Mignogna Web Original
This is a bit more of a delicate issue then I usually feel comfortable tackling, so I want to approach this as neutrally as possible. On this page, there's an entry on the bottom relating to the time when Vic snapped at a group of Christian protesters. In light of recent events, I think that, while not remove it, we should rewrite it a bit to reflect the current outlook of him. In particular, I think that bit at the beginning about how Vic "is known in the anime community for being an extremely Nice Guy to not only his fans, but to many people in general" might make people nowadays cringe.
openDanBrowned Purge Web Original
I noticed that all of the examples from Dan Browned that had their own pages barring the Trope Namer and the Nostalgia Critic's Cowboy BeBop at His Computer pages have been removed. I know that it was under the basis that it was just full of people complaining, but those pages need to stay. They probably shouldn't have been placed under Dan Browned, but most of the examples would still fall under Critical Research Failure. This is because most of the examples are things that can be looked up in under five minutes on google or can be dis-proven by going the work they are talking about. Examples for the Nostalgia Critic would include his review of The Lost World Jurrassic Park where claims that Ian Malcolm can't count because he said three people when Critic points out five died in the film total. One problem the first death was part of a prologue and well before Malcolm set foot on the island (It is even heavily implied the advance tour in the film was to calm the concerns of Hammond's investors after that death). He also counted Nedry when unlike the other deaths no one (including Malcolm) was around to confirm he was dead. Another example would be his editorial on the Princesses Rule where he includes Leia despite the fact adoptive parents were alive and at the time of A New Hope and when they died it was when Alderaan was destroyed so there was nothing for to be queen of aside from the handful of people who were not on the planet when it was destroyed. The others series andCracked are guilty of this and they are mistakes or deliberately misrepresenting the work and people have every right to call them out on it.
openRecaps Web Original
WebOriginal.TV Tropes Glee Recaps includes, at first glance, poor example indentation and the work's authors referring to themselves as "we".
Edited by Mickoonsley19openTroper Spamming Trope Finder Web Original
I dunno where to put this, but troper pig999 seems to be spamming the Trope Finder forum with a bunch of questions with only numbers as titles. I'm not sure if he's confused about the site or just trolling, but the questions are about stuff that's Too Specific To Trope, so he might be just pushing an agenda.
resolved Potential edit war? Web Original
On this page of this RWBY episode:
- Super N 9999 added a "Nice Job Fixing It Villain!" entry about Neo
.
- gjjones deemed it as potential misuse, so they took it down
.
- SuperN9999 re-adds it back, with the justification of the entry being present in Neo's character page
, despite reiterating that it was previously removed due to misuse.
Do we have a concrete Edit War here?
Edited by skan123resolved What namespace should Dropout be in? Web Original
So you may know that last August CollegeHumor officially rebranded as Dropout, like the streaming service they've run since 2018. I've moved their page on this wiki over to Dropout along with the subpages since it was about time. However, when I was indexing Dropout in the Other Sites index, I put it under Platforms and that got me thinking "Should I have made the Dropout page under Platform instead of Creator?". To be fair when the rebrand first happened the Platform namespace didn't exist yet so it was always in the back of my mind to use the Creator namespace for their page.
Since Dropout is also production company that makes their own shows, would it still be appropriate to keep them in Creator like Netflix, Hulu etc. or should it be in Platform since they're yet another digital platform? I don't mind having to replace all the wicks I've put out so far if I end up moving it to Platform.
resolved Web Video series in Creator Namespace Web Original
I came across the page joshscorcher, which (putting aside some cleanup with regards to a since-removed ROCEJ wick, some real-life troping and misuse that I've already noticed) seems like it's more suited to the Web Video namespace than Creator, particularly with how it already has several subpages that Creator pages are only allowed to have for tropes regarding their works (such as a YMMV page).
I'm guessing that moving the namespace requires copying the content on Creator/ over to Web Video/ and then cutlisting the Creator/ copy, but the page has got so large that I don't want to immediately jump to doing so without fully knowing what I'm doing. What is normally done in this situation?
Edited by Akriloth2160resolved Would it be okay to make a character sheet spoilers off? Web Original
On the character sheet for Can't Go Home Again, The Warehouse Entity's character sheet has nearly every single entry spoiler marked. I feel like at that point, it would be better to just add an 'Unmarked Spoilers' section to the title of his character sheet and unspoil the entries.
I started a discussion asking about this on the works page. But it has not gotten any traction in the last couple days. I asked a mod what I should do, and they recommended I make a post here asking about it.
Edited by Snoketrope

I recently note that the subpage FanWorks.Web Videos has been moved to FanWorks.Web Video.
I'd like to know if this is part of any kind of recognized clean-up effort, because otherwise it's not very useful.
A standard should be decided for this type of subpage, and I'd say it would lean strongly toward "Web Videos" because there is much more examples already (43), while "Web Video" only has 23 (among which some are Sandbox/ or Main/, not counting), making the change faster.
