openMoving "What Could Have Been" Examples Literature
Should I move all the examples for Franchise.Star Wars Legends in WhatCouldHaveBeen.Comic Books, WhatCouldHaveBeen.Literature, and WhatCouldHaveBeen.Video Games to the main WhatCouldHaveBeen.Star Wars page? It's so much to move and I'm not sure what the policy should be here.
Edited by harryhenryresolved Name Conventions for Book Series When Series Name and First Book Title Are Identical Literature
The Last Dragonslayer is the first book in the four-book series of the same name (plus a movie adaptation of the first book). The page currently lists tropes for three of the four books in the series, the film adaptation, and for the series as a whole.
I'd like to break it up with a main page for the series and individual works pages for each book, but I don't know if we have a guide on how to properly label the series page vs. the page for the first book.
Should Literature/TheLastDragonslayer become the main page, and works pages for the individual books have numbers after them (like "Literature/TheLastDragonslayerDragonslayerOne" with a custom display reading "The Last Dragonslayer (Dragonslayer 1)", "Literature/TheSongOfTheQuarkbeastDragonslayerTwo" with a custom display reading "The Song of the Quarkbeast (Dragonslayer 2)", etc...)? Or is there a better way to label the works in the series?
open[Resolved] Anthologies of Ullord Literature
Anthologies of Ullord works showed up during wick check. The fact that characters aren't in the Characters/ subpage made me raise an eyebrow, so looking it up and it appears Flynnbulwinter is Nikki Flynn and darkelfwizard is Edwin Dantes (not inherently an issue), who went inactive and nobody cleaned the pages in 3 years.
Besides splitting the pages, removing curly brackets, commenting out ZCE and removing spoiler tags from character headers, is there anything for me to do that I'm missing? I'm not sure what "release mending" even means.
Edited by AmonimusopenBlank trilogy page Literature
Star Wars: The Aftermath Trilogy has no tropes, as it's simply a landing page for three other novels with their own fleshed-out pages. I would cutlist it, but there's a YMMV page attached with franchise-wide Complete Monster entries.
What do we do here? I can't really add tropes that apply to the whole franchise as I'm not familiar with this book series.
resolved Plagiarized description Literature
The description on Once & Future's article is plagiarized from what's written on the back of the book, with only a few words changed to stop it from being exact. What now?
open"Sorcerer Hunters": which came first? Literature
We refer to this title both to the light novel and the manga. However, both began in the same month and year (august 1993) and were made by the same author. However, according to this page: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Manga/SorcererHunters
, you're sure it's the manga.
So, tl:dr which came first, manga or light novel? Because i have my doubts.
Edited by luigirovattiresolved Unsure what to do re. new book page. Literature
I recently created a page for Sword Of The Guardian, the first book in the Legends of Ithyria series, not realizing that a page for the series had already been created with tropes for the first book on it until I began crosswicking.
Should I move the non-duplicate tropes from the first book's page to the page for the series and flag it for deletion, or move the tropes for the first book from the series' page to that for the book?
Also, the two pages have the same image—that being the cover of the first book—and I'm not sure what should be done there.
resolved How to handle instances of unilaterally added CB/MB on work pages while waiting for procedure update Literature
First, I am aware that the CM/MB effortpost threads have been locked, pending some updated procedure. I have no intention of trying to endrun around that.
I recently noticed that YMMV.The Innkeeper Chronicles was created in August of 2023 - when the thread procedure was in place - with only a single unilateral MB entry. (It's also rather poorly written, but that's beside the point for this question.)
What should we do when we find such? I don't doubt that there are/will be more. (not that I'm hunting, just if one came to my attention?)
- Burn it! It's against the rules as is.
- Leave it be until there is a new procedure. A few stray entries on obscure pages won't hurt that much.
- Other?
Also, would the answer change if the entry had been created after the threadlock?
Especially would like to see mod feedback.
resolved Loud Visions Running Gag Literature
I have a question for the Loud Visions General section. The trope 'Running Gag' has in its list of Lynn Jr. getting beaten and raped. How is that a running gag? A running gag, by definition, is a running joke that appears repeatedly throughout a story. How is Lynn Jr. getting beaten and raped a running gag when there are several reasons that it's not? 1. It's not funny. 2. It doesn't happen repeatedly. 3. It actually doesn't even happen at all. It's a future vision Lincoln has. A premonition of the future that doesn't happen because he and Lori prevent it from happening by killing the people that would attack Lynn Jr.
resolved Evillious Moment Subpages being Spoiler Marked Literature
So I was looking at the Moment Subpages for the various Evillious Chronicles Light Novels (last edits for the Deadly Sins of Evil stories were apparently 6-7 years ago) and I noticed that they don't have the recent rule of:
As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.
Should these pages be updated to add this?
openThe living and the dead Literature
Could you make a list of tropes in the two parts story "The Living and the Dead", from Anthony Enciso?
resolved Removing of HoYay twice from entry on American Girl YMMV Literature
On YMMV.American Girls Collection:
- ~Eievie created an entry for Shipping
, and in doing so placed Ho Yay improperly indented under it in subtroping.
- I edited to remove bad indentation
, moved Ho Yay to its own section so it wasn't being subtroped, and cited Ho Yay under shipping in the shipping entry. I also sent a notification for indentation issues. (I did two back to back edits since I hit enter early on the first
and didn't get all my edit reasons in.)
- Eievie today edited down the entry, citing that the character data is being moved to the specific pages
, but again removed the Ho Yay link.
I don't want to cause an Edit War, so bringing this to ATT. While the individual character literature pages are being filled out (but still need to be crosswicked, I've sent notifiers about it) these particular edits were not moved yet to each character. It can't hurt to have the references on the main page for YMMV.American Girls Collection page — plus there's no reason to remove the reference to Ho Yay either way.
Thanks.
Edited by NethiliaopenChoosing a quote Literature
I am thinking about adding several quotes to a book series' list of tropes. How long should each passage be?
resolved Wondering if this is safe to make a work page for? Literature
So I’ve been thinking about making a work page for Péchés Mignons
, a French adult romantic comedy comic created by Arthur de Pins. Just wanna double-check if it’s okay under the site’s rules before I start anything, since the comic’s kinda on the risqué side.
resolved Loud Visions Humor Trope Literature
One of the tropes for chapter 5 of Loud Visons 3 is "No Sense of Humor" stating this:
"Chapter 5 reveals a total of 14 different powers distributed between Lincoln's family except Lily and not a single power is even slightly funny."
This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Lincoln and his family were attacked by bounty hunters, both of whom have superpowers from the future. Lincoln thought he saw his family die when they blew up the van they were in. This triggered his rage, and he killed the bounty hunters. After realizing they were alive and having an emotional reunion, Lincoln decides to give his family superpowers to increase their chances of survival.
Why in the world would Lincoln or his family want 'funny superpowers'? Their lives are in danger. It would actually be stupid for them to want and have superpowers that are funny. So, it's actually a good thing they're taking this seriously. Why put this trope here? And who says superpowers have to be funny?
openCan I trope my autobiography? Literature
I'd like to create a trope page for my self-published autobiography Andy's Nature: Asperger's, Obesity and the Supernatural. Would this be allowable? If so, could I link it to my You Tube channel? The channel is linked to my website, which in turn is linked to the book's Amazon page, and I understand commercial links are forbidden on TVT.
openHow to tell when to pull the plug on a work page? Literature
Hello! What are the signs that a work page should be doomed, and what's a good benchmark for when the work page is still salvageable? I made a work page for the Return Of the Blossoming Blade novel (there's also a manhwa adaptation) but the links go to Literature General (example: the Awesome link goes to all of literature's awesome moments). Can I change it so I can make an awesome page for rotbb specifically? Not to mention the way the page shows up in a search engine is formatted strangely. Can I fix it? If so, how?
openCampaigns turned into books? Literature
Is there a Trope for tabletop RPG campaigns that are adapted into a different medium like novels? I know there's a few examples like Dragonlance and George R.R. Martin's Wild Cards.
openSpoilers question Literature
Another user and I are having difficulty deciding what to do with the Magical Girl Raising Project character folders. These folders list the order in which certain characters die and by what method, but these are meant to be spoilers. However, due to a rule saying you cannot put spoilers above the folder bar, they are unspoiled. What are we to do?

Alright I found about this story where historical fact is disguised as science fiction. Thing is most of the trope page is in a spoiler folder. The sole exception being The Ending Changes Everything. I just want to ask about the page and if the practice of using folders to hide spoilers (when they are most if not all the examples) is allowed or not since it seems rather unusual.
