openShould this be removed from the Gundam YMMV? Anime
I've noticed this particular example while I was browsing:
- Americans Hate Tingle: The Gundam franchise is very unpopular in Brazil, since most of Brazilian anime fans dislike mecha series. The only anime aired in the country was Mobile Suit Gundam Wing and the Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz OVAs during the beginning of the 2000s in the Cartoon Network, but it was clearly overshadowed by other animations like Dragon Ball Z, Rurouni Kenshin and YuYu Hakusho in the channel. Even the Brazilian fansubs don't have interest on it, most of them don't bother subbing any of the series that came before Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam 00.
Speaking as a Brazilian myself, I'd like to clarify some things:
- I really don't know where this supposed mecha stigma came from, even other shows like Code Geass have a solid fanbase in the Otaku community of the country.
- Wing was in fact overshadowed by other animations, but the franchise never aired again in all of Latin America; Seed was planned to air in the country alongside SD Gundam before it was licensed and Wing itself was even revisited by another TV block not affiliated with Cartoon Network.
- All pre-2000 Gundam shows are available and are easy to find thanks to fansubs made by devoted fans, gaining a small but dedicated cult-following in the process. In recent years, the modern Gundam shows are much more popular than their predecessors and are enjoyed by many in the community.
So yeah, It's certainly not "hated" or "very unpopular". This section was noted by another Brazilian troper a few years ago, who had this to say: "As an actual brazilian anime fan, I think that this post is making things sound worse than they actually are. And the "most of series are either not subbed or dropped" part is factually incorrect. Big fansubs groups may have not subbed Gundam anime before Seed, but smaller and specialized groups did it."
Edited by TheMadCr0wopenPeculiar edits on words Anime
This troper, lugia1, has been making edits on Pokémon, in which they replace the é with a regular e. It might not seem as much as a big deal, but I'm reporting this out of consideration for those that are strict about formatting. This goes from both the Pokémon section and To Be a (Miraculous) Master.
Here's a link to their edit history: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/el.php?findfor=lugia1
On top of that, I looked further into their history as they also been removing Trope links on words and took apart Trope Name (added spaces to turn them into regular words) for no reason.
Edited by SeptimusHeapopenWhat names should the Kirby anime page be using? Anime
I noticed that some parts of the page were using the Japanese names, and others the English names. Don't we just use the English ones by default? I thought I heard someone here saying we should stick with one set of names when it comes to anime.
openPermission to delete false and unconfirmed information? Anime
In the Anime and Manga sections of certain trope pages and within the actual work pages, I see information that came from fan translated interviews that are no longer available on the Internet or were translated unfaithfully (as in, the translators were not native Japanese speakers nor did they study Japanese or—in all seriousness, because it has happened—they were trolls trying to justify Word of God but in reality were twisting the words spoken and claimed it as valid, thus becoming a clear case of God Never Said That). Could I delete that information on the grounds of it being "false and unconfirmed information with no official source to back up its validity (see How to Write an Example)"?
open Blacknuz unilaterily changing a romanization in New Game related a Anime
Tropers/Blacknuz has been changing the romanization for a major character in Manga.New Game and associated pages wholesale, without discussion.
openRegarding the sudden deletion of the HoYay/LoveLiveSunshine page Anime
Is it possible to revert or bring back the HoYay/LoveLiveSunshine page after getting cutlisted? (Or at least give a more detailed reason for deletion?)
I can't help but question the sudden deletion on the grounds that it's "spam"—which is defined as "unsolicited, undesired or illegal email messages." Everything that the HoYay/LoveLiveSunshine page wasn't.
Unless there's some kind of recent memorandum or consensus posted here on TVT regarding such pages, in which case, might as well wipe the rest of the Ho Yay pages for other fictional works.
And the troper who did it: jormis29

openQuestionable edits on "Soul Eater" Anime
~Shushuruhn (a new account, according to the Watchlist) has gone over Manga.Soul Eater and edited out all references to the character Chrona having an Ambiguous Gender (Word of God is basically a Shrug of God), which seems a bit questionable. I've done a quick search and haven't found anything to suggest it's changed (the original manga ended a few years ago, and I don't think any of the spinoffs have even featured Chrona).
Edit History for the article in question.
EDIT: The editor in question seems to have done the same to their character page about 5 days ago, too
.
openWall of spoiled out text Anime
On the Anti-Villain page for Anime and Manga, there's a wall of text for Attack On Titan that's almost entirely spoilered out. It's also really long and looks to be improperly indented. I'm not familiar with the work, so I can't fix it. Should I comment it out, or can someone clean it up real quick? Side note: The video games sub-page also has many entries with the same problem.

Edited by bitemytailopenExpy on Ikki Tousen character sheet Anime
Despite removing the Expy entry regarding the similarities between Hakufu Sonsaku and Excel as well as a brief discussion
on the talk page, king3000 has just now restored the expy entry in Characters.Ikki Tousen, with an edit reason of "i would love someone to explain to me how excel and hakufu are nothing alike" (history
).
Not only that, but it's also a textbook Zero Context Example entry. I don't want to get into an edit war, so what would be the best way to resolve this situation?
Edited by gjjonesopenDisproportionate Retribution Anime
Me and another troper are having a disagreement here https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/remarks.php?trope=DragonBallZ.TropesAToG
about rather Dr. Gero fits the definition of Disproportionate Retribution.
The argument against him being this trope is that he has justifiable reasons for wanting to kill Goku since he destroyed the Red Ribbon Army which he devoted his entire life towards, along with his son being killed in service of them, and it ruined his life. Also, Gero is not responsible for the androids after they kill him in both time lines.
My argument for including him is that Gero specifically programmed the androids to hate humans so they will happily kill them and help him take over the world. So the only off-script thing they did was killing Gero. Them terrorizing humanity afterwards happened because he made them that way. He also forcibly kidnapped Android 17 and 18, and made them androids against his will all for his revenge plot. Also, he activated the androids despite Goku being dead for six months in Future Trunks' timeline, so it wasn't all about revenge. There is also Cell which Gero created to become more powerful by eating people and according to Cell, Gero wanted him to destroy the universe in revenge for the Red Ribbon Army. Now, you can argue that Cell got it wrong or was just insane, but there is no information contradiction this either. And on top of that, Android 19 and Gero personally destroyed a city that had nothing to do with the fall of the Red Ribbon Army.
Since this is kind of a values question about what is considered disproportionate, we need more opinions.

resolved What do I go to change the title of a work page? Anime
I'm considering of changing the main title of "Literature.Bakemonogatari" to "Literature.MonogatariSeries" since Bakemonogatari is only the title for the first arc/season of the series (and the series itself is a bit of a Long Runner with multiple different names for each arc/season and Bakemonogatari is only one of them). It makes more sense for the main title to be the Monogatari Series instead.
However, I'm not exactly sure where I can propose to change the main title. How do I do this?
Edited by RuckusHeartsresolved Anime & Manga or Films -- Animated? Anime
I just received a private message from a troper stating that they think films in the Anime/ namespace should be in the Anime & Manga folders and pages, referring to me moving examples from Studio Ghibli movies like Spirited Away and Ponyo to Films — Animated folders/pages whenever I can. I have reason to believe that they belong in the Films — Animated category and that anything in the Anime & Manga page should be a series; are there any forums or anything else that can confirm this?
openNotices on Fairy Tail character pages Anime
On certain Fairy Tail character pages like Characters.Fairy Tail Main Villains (which has a spoiler warning notice for the Walking Spoiler characters Zeref and Acnologia), I revised the spoiler warning notices in a similar vein with some of the other Walking Spoiler character articles like the Characters.MCU Ego and Characters.MCU The High Evolutionary page by saying "All spoilers on this page will be left unmarked".
However, the notices were re-expanded by NicMasterTrope leaving behind an edit summary containing potential grammatical errors like "[[Zero-Context Example: it Example does not sufficiently explain how it applies: itis important to list as why the page doesn’t contain any spoiler tagging" (when said spoiler warning notices actually aren't ZCEs). The page's history can be found here
. The same thing happened on other FT pages such as the Alvarez Empire page
, the Tartaros page
and the Saber Tooth page
.
Since I don’t want to risk a potential Edit War by reverting the troper's edits, I’m bringing this matter to ATT. Any thoughts on what to do here?
Edited by gjjonesresolved Should we link and mention where to watch films and series? Anime
I see a lot of work pages, specifically anime series, tend to link to and mention streaming sites (like Crunchyroll or Netflix) where you can watch it in the description.
However, I find this a little unnecessary for multiple reasons:
- A streaming site’s content differs in every country.
- Not everyone has access to certain streaming sites (like HBO Max, Paramount Plus or Hulu in which the former two only appears in some countries, while the latter is exclusive to the US).
- There might be also the case when certain streaming sites are no longer around like AnimeLab or Funimation.
Should I remove these in the descriptions if I see one?
Edited by RuckusHeartsopenWeird formatting Anime

openPossible edit war on Characters.GargantiaOnTheVerdurousPlanet Anime
On Characters.Gargantia On The Verdurous Planet (history can be found here

Can someone please look into this? Thanks.
Edited by gjjonesopenSomething's up with the Kaleido Star character page Anime
The page Characters.Kaleido Star suffers from a huge ZCE issue where tropes that are added are half-explained or left blank, particularly the last few folders. Other trope examples are barely explained, like for the Disappeared Dad entry, it just states the missing father's name?
I'm not saying we should cut this page because some examples are fairly well written. But would it be fair to comment out a lot of ZC Es?
I haven't seen this anime so I can't really fix the page.
