Ask the Tropers:
open"Writers Cartoon". Should it have a page here? Western Animation
I've been on twitter and a couple of John Kricfalusi fanboys (spumdonor and eatmyspum) have been throwing around the expression "writer cartoon".
In a surface level, it seems to refer to animated series that let their dialogue to do all the work when it comes to the comedy whereas the animation take a back seat. These two (and supposedly Kricfalusi himself) hate these kinds of cartoons because they don't take enough advantage of things like going off model or smear frames. Instead,"writer cartoons" rely on pop culture references, puns, Catskill humor, parodies and other things that "kill" the comedy.
Writer cartoons include "Animaniacs", "Tiny Toon Adventures", and I guess everything made by Tom Ruegger.
EDIT: Accourding to "Cartoon Aesthetics" (actually spumdonor's YT account), a writer cartoon is a "cartoon not written by cartoonists".
Edited by Numbuh1507openUnexplained Reverts of ATT approved writeups with rejected writeups on CharacterPerceptionEvolution Western Animation
So quite a while ago, there was a discussion on Tighten
from Megamind’s characterPerceptionEvolution entry with everyone in ATT and it was agreed by all that Hal was always viewed as creepy and entitled by viewers whom weren’t children, with even Hal fans in the oldest livejournal communities admitting the character was a creep.
Howerver Joe Mere suddenly removed the approved ATT entry and replaced it with the rejected write up that claimed Hal was sympathized with until recently without giving any sort of edit reason.
I messaged them about it months ago, linking the ATT and they ‘’never’’ gave any sort of answer whatsoever.
On a similar note, when Miraculous removed the unapproved Hal/Tighten entry
on the Character Perception Evolution page, another user, Blase Son Of A Gun 1988 added it back, again with no edit reason being given
.
Should we intervene?

openRestoring the We Were The Louds Page Western Animation
I'd like to ask to recreate the TV Tropes page for "We Were The Louds" by Black-Kyurem. I don't really know the exact tropes, but I hope that others do and expand upon it, though I don't want it to be them doing my dirty work for me.

- One Boiled Potato added
a Fanon Discontinuity entry that I deleted for contradicting with another entry.
- He re-adds it back with no prior discussion

resolved Suggestion for Inside Out 2 Tropes Page Western Animation
I have a suggestion for the Inside Out 2 page https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WesternAnimation/InsideOut2
on TV Tropes. At the beginning of the movie, there are several moments where Anger and Joy share significant looks. These moments seem like a clear "ship tease" and add a layer of romantic tension between the characters. Furthermore, the bond between Anger and Joy seems to get closer throughout the film, enhancing these moments of connection. This interaction isn't limited to the "I'm delusional" rant but is present in several early scenes.
Is it okay if we could add this to the relevant tropes section? Thank you for considering my suggestion.
Edited by wingedcatgirlresolved Adored By The Network page for Wonder Pets Western Animation
A user named Hawalul232 created an Adored by the Network page for Wonder Pets!. On top of slightly inaccurate statements (such as claiming it is "the most popular preschool show in Nick Jr history" and "smashed Dora the Explorer and became Nick Jr's icon"), it is a blatant stub (with barely any of the entries explaining exactly why it was adored by the network) and is littered with very poor grammar.
What should we do with it? I'd personally like the user in question to be brought to this thread for an explanation.
Edited by DongwaChanopenHellaverse Cleanup Western Animation
There's a person over at https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=16977644850A38597900&page=7#154
that I don't know what to do about anymore.
They've resorted several times to personal insults ("No wonder so many people have been saying that bad faith critics have been taking over the tv tropes page if these are the sort of arguments being presented..") We'd pretty much argued it down to a finished entry, and then they decided that "You're being mean and so I'm taking back my offer of a compromise."
Blitzo said, in no uncertain terms, "This is a really bad time" and "I'm trying not to get fucked in my A." Their insistence, on this page and several others, is that Stolas had no way of knowing Blitzo was in *any* kind of trouble or duress or stressful situation. I'm at a loss.

The animated series Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is apparently changing its name to Gremlins: The Wild Bunch for its second season. What’s the best way to handle this scenario?
resolved Cerebus Syndrome - does it require the work to be clearly nonserious? Western Animation
I looked under Cerebus Syndrome, and I see both Amphibia and The Owl House listed.
The Owl House started out semi-story-based, in that it was episodic but still told stories, and still took itself somewhat seriously (in that the stories were somewhat serious and there was clear worldbuilding) but had comedy. Then things ramped up near the end of season 1.
Amphibia, meanwhile, was more about random adventures, with more story in season 2, then it ramped up with Marcy's "death" at the end of season 2.
To me, these are very different things entirely. One was somewhat story-based but went to full continuing storylines. The other one was more random adventures but then jumped to having more lore and backstory, then suddenly turned dark all at once.
Looking through I see other examples that I feel aren't totally that trope. Like, there are shows that simply went from having no continuity to having continuity (a show called The Raccoons). That's not the same thing as "goes from silly random comedy to suddenly dark."
Does this trope need cleanup? Am I misunderstanding what it's about? Does it need a new description, or something to make it much more clear what is and isn't an example of Cerebus Syndrome?
resolved Rude troper caught in EditWar Western Animation
On the YMMV page of Miraculous Ladybug:
- Nanakai, who has a bad habit of repeatedly dunking on the show, added a complainy Hype Backlash entry
, which I deleted shortly after
.
- The next day, not only does Nanakai re-add it back
, but he tops it off with a rude edit reason (namely calling us "gatekeepers")
resolved ''Helluva Boss'' YMMV issues. Western Animation
It feels like every episode of Helluva Boss is a battleground for adding or removing tropes like Broken Base or Unintentionally Unsympathetic, only avoiding being outright edit wars by virtue of it being different tropers every time. Every Season 2 episode that meets the six month minimum has a Broken Base entry(s) that goes from major plot elements to something as simple as a line of dialogue, multiple people have been either adding or removing entries for Stolas and Loona, accusations of wimpification for multiple characters, it's starting to get out of hand.
Any advice on this situation? Am I blowing things out of proportion?
Edited by RebelFalconresolved Trudy from The Proud Family being listed as GoodParents Western Animation
So I was reading the character sheet for The Proud Family and I noticed that Good Parents was listed under Trudy's character sheet. I don't think she qualifies as an example due to her actions in Grandma's Hands. What she did to Penny was a type of neglect and she could have disciplined Penny in a much better manner.
openEdit war (?) on YMMV.Hilda Western Animation
I think there is a possible edit war on YMMV.Hilda.
Back in December 11, 2023, Nic Master Trope added a Base-Breaking Character entry covering Anders from S3
, which I then deleted since it violates No Recent Examples, Please! (as it had only been a couple of days after the season aired (december 7) and examples require a six month waiting period after the work/season's release). However, on April 29, 2024, Nic Master Troper re-added and expanded the example
, once again violating No Recent Examples, Please! (waiting period for S3 examples is not over til June 7) and ignoring the commented out saying not to put such examples until the waiting period is up.
I am taking it here, because I want to avoid an edit war and the user has now violated No Recent Examples, Please! twice.

openEdit war on YMMV/BrotherBear Western Animation
The YMMV page on Brother Bear used to include a Vindicated by History entry, which I removed on the grounds that the movie's critical consensus hasn't really switched around. While some viewers appreciate some of the themes being juggled, it still stands out for being fairly forgettable and for many of the themes being really undercooked, which doesn't fit with the standards for Vindicated by History (Which is a total critical reversal)
- Vindicated by History: For a long period of time, it was considered one of Disney's weakest films, with some even ranking it alongside Home on the Range and Chicken Little, with complaints about anachronistic dialogue, a predictable plot, and unlikeable characters. In later years, however, many consider it an underrated gem in spite of its flaws, with many praising the themes of revenge and seeing past differences, along with the movie's criticism of the mindset of love being unmasculine. The film's vivid visuals and stunning wilderness scenery help it stand out as well. It's telling that there was a resurgence of merchandise in The New '20s such as shirts, collectible pins, and a 20th anniversary Disney Sketchbook Ornament.
Mr Media Guy 2, the user who originally added the entry, added it back later with the next comment "If the reaction to it is more positive than when it first came out, yes, it absolutely does count." which to me means he isn't familiar with the actual tenets of the trope, nor how his edit constitutes an edit war. I sent him a PM, which he subsequently ignored, so I'm now reporting the edit war here.
Edited by Remulusresolved Do we really need a copyright notice at the top of a recap page? Western Animation
I'm in the midst of culling An Aesop wicks from Lilo & Stitch: The Series recap pages, when I discovered that the plot summary for the recap page for "Spats" is taken verbatim from the fandom page of said episode. As if it wasn't obvious enough, the opening section has this displayed in bold at the top: The plot synopsis below includes content originally written on Lilo & Stitch Wiki on Fandom, which is available under a Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License 3.0 (Unported).
No other recap page for the series has this as placed at the top of the page. Rise from Your Grave added this back in 2021 and has edited other recap pages of Lilo & Stitch: The Series in their time on here. but they haven't added this notice on other pages they have edited. I don't want to send a Plagiarism notifer for a 3 year old edit, but they are still active on the site. I'm listing this here as I don't want to make a drastic edit without notifiying the troper that made it, and I don't want to instigate an edit war. What should be my course of action?
Edited by Jalpo99resolved Possible Edit War in Despicable Me 4? Western Animation
- Mepsipax adds this entry
for They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot.
- Venomous Seal deletes it
because the trope "isn't supposed" to be added until "three days after the movie's released".
- Ilove Cookies 875 readds
the entry without explanation.
Is this an Edit War? Because while it doesn't follow the back-and-forth adding and removing of the same entry by two different tropers, They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot is not under No Recent Examples, Please!, so I'm not sure either if the entry should stay.

In Beavis and Butt-Head, the duo and Adler repeatedly harass a girl named Kimberly by calling her a "vile temptress" for 'sexually attracting the boys' (the duo got erections because she is attractive). Does this still count as slut-shaming, or not really?
