openShould this page be moved? Videogame
We have a page for the 2004 PS2 Transformers game over at Transformers: Prelude to Energon. The thing is, though, "Prelude to Energon" was only a Working Title, the game was officially released as just "Transformers".
There's currently nothing at VideoGame.Transformers, so it could be moved there easily enough, but I wonder if that page would be better suited as a disambig page for all the other Transformers games.
Edited by PrimisopenGame Breaker Overuse Videogame
The Jade Empire page has, as of now, ten entries of Game-Breaker listed. Most of them come down to "This style is really strong" without explaining how it's power wasn't intended or how it is better than all the other styles — heck, one of the examples has an edit which specifically explains why a style in question is not a Game-Breaker. Can I do something about it?
openEdit War in Super Smash Bros. Videogame
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=VideoGame.SuperSmashBros&more=t
Here's a courtesy link.
The troper Dragon Ranger keeps changing the words that describe Dragon Quest's Hero away from noting the "characters" represented. Officially on Twitter, Sakurai does mention he uses specific designs for the characters, while Smash itself does not actually use anything but Hero. We however don't have a release of the character at all. Do note more than one person is involved.

This was beforehand by Dragon Ranger, also with no edit reason. Meaning that he didn't think to actually take it to Discussion at any point. I do not know if he has edit warred before.

Dragon Ranger is the first one to put the line. Which makes some of this jarring. This is more protecting the article than actually making a proper attempt at discussion.
openLong-term problematic troper, potential edit war Videogame
The troper Marioguy 128 is going around all of the pages related to Splatoon 2 and deleting anything relating to it being better than the original game, or even just good in its own right, because "it's not representative of everyone's opinions." He has done nothing but add negative, complain-y edits in return. At this point I'm sick of dealing with him. Just check my last edit summary for Splatoon. Needlessly harsh, yeah, but I was frustrated.
Last year, right after the Octo Expansion came out, he made some edits to the YMMV page for Splatoon 2 so he could complain about the design of Agent 8 and the design and personality of Marina, labeling them "creepy" and "sexist". He then got into a huge spat on the Splatoon forum thread when they called him out on it, claiming that "it's not representative of everyone's opinions." (i.e. he and one or two people on other forums/streamers think so, ergo it's fact.) He's been a problem for quite some time.
Edited by Midnaopen Which is It? Videogame
I have a question: Is it possible for a boss to be That One Boss and an Anti-Climax Boss at the same time?
The subject is both the aforementioned examples concerning the dual boss battle against Klaus and Crymaria in chapter 15 of Valkyria Chronicles 4. The YMMV page lists them as That One Boss, yet the Anti Climax Boss example (which I added) includes a link to YT video proving they can both be taken out laughably easy in only 1-turn.
So which trope actually applies?
openBiased editing Videogame
Troper Scainer64 seems a tad bit biased editing on this page. Now to be fair, the Geth/Quarian conflict is one of the most hotly debated topics among the fandom, but still, he seems focused on trying to shift the entire narrative against the Geth. I undid some of his previous editing, as it contained a lot of natter, bad grammar and weird placing, but now he once again removed big portions without any reasons. Bringing this up here since I don't want to start an edit war.
Edited by ForenperseropenNSFW warnings? Videogame
Would it be okay to add warnings for links that could be potentially NSFW but nothing explicit?
I would like to add an example to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate under Hilarious in Hindsight that involves a link to deviantart (You can already tell where this is going) and the link contains some....fetish art. Would it be ok to add a warning for any readers who might click the link as it could squick people if they're not prepared or into it?
Side note the picture itself is fine but the users page contains some racy art so would it be appropriate to post a link with a warning, just the image itself (which I'm hesitant as it doesnt give the creator credit), no link at all, or just axe the example altogether?
openNotifiers on Moments Pages Videogame
Troper zeister changed the English VA to the Japanese VA on the Tear Jerker page in Tales of Berseria. The first troper who added the entry meant for the moment to be for Christina Vee, not Rina Sato. I'm not sure if a notifier is needed and/or which notifier to use. It hasn't been changed back in case an edit war ensues.
Edited by apathetictalesopenDoes my entry have too much word cruft in it, or might be a bit too emotionally biased? Videogame
I've remade the Half-Quake entry over in Video Games, due to the entry I made before that being way too-run on and inconsisntent. I want to make sure I'm avoiding word-cruft and overly emotionally-charged content. Here's the entry I made so that way if there's any errors I've made, either regarding typos or not following the Rule of Cautious Editing Judgment, it'll be here and not in some awkward place.
- The Half-Life mod trilogy "Halfquake", can be very difficult to sit through due to it's bleak message of "Life makes no sense, and you may as well just kill yourself" it tells you from the get-go, as well as it's murky-gray visuals after the first part. However, each of the three mods themselves carry varying degrees of overwhelming darkness that can be difficult to sit though just by themselves:
- The first mod, HalfQuake, stands as the least darkest part of the trilogy, but that really isn't saying much considering that you won't see much of anything that isn't either an enemy, concrete and/or steel, or lava. It also happens to be the only part of the trilogy that gives you a HUD, as well as the classic run/gun action of the first Half-Life game. The fact that throughout the mod, you can't escape the facility is made rather clear in a section where you sneak through the backrooms and into a house, only to be dumped right back into the trap-laden path uncerimoniously with a message aptly saying "you cannot escape, dumbass (sic)". You also end up getting killed right after you defeat the boss of the mod, Somos, which is also how the other two parts end as well.
- The second part, Halfquake: Amen, takes a swan-dive right into darkness as well as dump most of anything related to conventional FP Ses out the window. Most of the time spent throughout Amen will be either though the life or death chambers, semi-lonely atmospheric enviorments, or deadly traps/puzzles the first game uses. Whilst the captors in the first game made humourously dark remarks about the situation you're in, Amen ramps up the "dark" part, but not the "humorous", leaving you to deal with cruel and unpleasant people after cruel and unpleasant people. Amen also provides music for some of the parts you'll be going through (including an ending song, "Half-Quake Theme), the songs themselves rather downbeat, both in music and lyrical content.
- The third entry in the series, Sunrise, gameplay-wise, is where the series really starts to become an exersise in futility, the deadly puzzles and trap-laden hallways really starting to ramp up in this iteration. The few splashes of color that the previous two games had, aside from camoes near the end, are now entirely gone, save for a really, really light blue. Story-wise, aside from the final boss and a few disembodied voices, there's no NP Cs to interact with in Sunrise at all, your only form of breaking this sheer emptiness being a "Victim Message Box", which introduces to the only 3 people you'll be hearing from consistently throughout the mod: A guy voice who wants you dead and taunts you, a crazed man rambling about a cogwheel named "Mary", and getting angry at you when you're unable to find her (not that any cogwheels you can grab appear in the mod), and a lady who really hates you and wants you dead. The pitch-black atmosphere of Amen is also present as ever here, and doesn't stop for any moments of levity.
- Half Quake's spinoff, "Personal Halfquake", is directly based on Amen and a bit of the original Half_Quake, as well as having updated to support some of Sunrise, and it proves to be just as dark as the main game. Most of the game is spent stealing people from what's implied to be places that haven't done any wrong, and placing them in similarly made trap-laden hallways the Half-Quake trilogy features. Most of the places you go to are all managed by slaves, who have either been broken beyond repair, or are jerks who loathe your guts. The "Chosen Victim" mechanic involves kidnapping one of your victims, and inducing Stockholm Syndrome in them, allowing you to do paticularly cruel things to them.
openAggressive edits on Destiny 2 Videogame
Ano Baka Desu left aggressive edit reasons, one in regards to “shoehorning” and another simply titled “No.” when removing some canon moments that happened. Not a fantastic edit reason, I’d say.
openPercussive Therapy or too speculative? Videogame
I've been editing the Cadence of Hyrule Character page and came to a bit of a standstill on adding a trope. I want to add Percussive Therapy under Octavo's section based on an NPC quote but not sure if it's enough since it can be interpreted in more than one way.
The context is that he's a Well-Intentioned Extremist trying to get rid of Ganon due to a prophecy foretelling his demise, and the castle's guards (who are trapped inside the castle against their will since he sealed it off) keep their distance from him.
The quote implies that either he's a Bad Boss who flings fireballs at the guards, or someone who's stressed out/angry and flinging fireballs everywhere. The latter is my assumption but... you be the judge:
Quote from Guard NPC: I occasionally see flickers of light when I'm in the entrance hall, where you came from. If it's Octavo flinging his fireballs around again, count me out.
Is it enough to count or...too vague even with context?
Edited by INeveropenA Big Chunk of Expy Misuse Videogame
I posted this in the Expy Cleanup Thread
a week ago and got no response. Since the "Is this an example?" has enough going on already and this seems pretty cut and dry, I thought I'd just post here and get a quick second opinion before I act:
I was looking at Characters.Primal Rage and deleted a really blatant misuse of Expy, comparing Mortal Kombat's Johnny Cage (a martial arts movie star turned Champion of Earthrealm) to the PR character Sauron (a yellow dinosaur who's primary attribute is an insatiable appetite) because they both have shadow attacks.
Looking closer, I realized that every game character has such an entry comparing them to a Mortal Kombat 1 character.
I'm pretty sure that's all misuse but I wanted to check before going on a deletion spree so that, if nothing else, I can point somewhere to show I'm not doing this unilaterally.
openInvoked YMMV Videogame
SasquatchX added this to Characters.Super Smash Bros Ultimate 70 To 75 in the Hero's folder:
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Invoked Trope, as the inclusion of Eight among the playables is this. Sakurai makes mention in his interview regarding the acquisition of the Heroes of Eight's status being the one that western audiences are most likely going to recognize.
This isn't proper use of Invoked Trope isn't it? Using it for YMMV items is for when said item occurs within the narrative itself, not when it is used as a reason from Word of God for including something within a work.

openWhat happened on the YMMV/ValkyriaChronicles4 YMMV Page? Videogame
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/article_history.php?article=YMMV.ValkyriaChronicles4
As shown here, a troper’s edit left a bunch of garbage code on the page. I cleaned it up, and the troper didn’t seem to have ill intent, but I’m curious about how that could happen on accident.

Edited by invisibleninjaopenMods on Franchise/Doom Videogame
I noticed on the index Franchise/Doom there's a list of Doom mods; wouldn't it be better to simply remove it? There's already an index for Doom mods in FanWorks/Doom, and having it also in the Franchise page is redundant. Besides, in other Franchise pages, fan derivative works are never shown, because they technically are not part of the franchise.
Edited by gc10openVideo game generation years Videogame
I changed the video game generation years on Horrible.Video Games and its subpages, with my reasoning, as stated on Horrible.Video Game Generations Fifth To Sixth, being "Even if the last PS2 game was released in 2013, the sixth generation effectively ended around 2007", but ndboy changed it to 2010 and then back to 2013, without explanation both times. I don't think we should say the generations ended with the very last game released on them; by that logic, we're still in the seventh generation because Ubisoft is still releasing Just Dance games for the Wii. Also, Wikipedia, which seems to have come up with those generation names, says the seventh generation began in late 2005 with the Xbox 360, not 2004. I sent ndboy a PM about this, but he hasn't responded, so can I change it back?
Edited by rjd1922

Basically, I spotted that Main.Video Games not only houses a table of indexes, as is right, but also contains an index of its own, which is superfluous to say the least.
There's simply no way a single index page can fit all of video games; even the Video Games of the 2010s page is currently getting split due to being too large. As such, it is currently a grab-bag of pretty obscure game pages, mostly created by inexperienced tropers who stuck that index alone (some pages there shouldn't be counted as videogames at all, but rather Roleplay, or even Tabletop Game in one instance).
I have done my best to polish up the pages there and ensure they are stuck on at least one other "proper" index. With permission, I would like to go ahead and cut it, and place a commented-out warning in its place.
