openEditing jumpcut(web animation) page Web Original
Hey, I'm looking for help on needing to begin on the jumpcut! (Web animation) page, since I believe the link was made but no work was done on it. I just wanted to know if I can get the some tips on where to begin so it looks somewhat decent to read.
openZCE unhiding and a weird change in LocalHangout
Dorothyshoes 30 has recently made multiple edits to Local Hangout's Live-Action TV folder. Most of them are fine, like alphabetizing examples (I think?), and deleting a duplicate ZCE.
Their latest edit
, however, is less than fine: they removed the hiding markup of a bunch of Zero-Context Examples, without actually expanding on them.
Aside from the mass unhiding, they did edit a lot of examples (including the previously-hidden ones) to have them start like "(work name): hasnote lowercase (hangout)..."; it doesn't look super good (the colon ends up being unneccessary), and it's probably a violation of the first-come-served rule.
Oh, and this didn't happen in their previous edits on the page. Only in the last one.
Worth a mod reversion or not?
resolved Headscratchers.Buffy Season 8 Live Action TV
On October 4th, I asked this on the Headscratchers cleanup page, but I'm not sure I got a response. I have some concerns about the "Why have a Season 8 at all?" column on Buffy Season 8; it feels like a remnant of the IJBM days of the site:
- Why not show us what would have happened if Seth Green's departure and Lindsay Crouse's unavailability hadn't thrown Season 4 and beyond off the rails?
- Because they didn't want to? You might as well ask why they wrote what they wrote instead of the very specific thing you personally wanted to see. I don't know what kind of an answer could be expected.
Should this be cut? Meta questions aren't allowed, right?
Edited by Porcupikeresolved Does TVTropes have a "find and replace word" tool?
It would be useful to quickly replace a name that's misspelled/mistranslated throughout a whole page rather than having to slow change them one at a time. Though I can also understand why it wouldn't exist since it would probably make for easy vandalizing.
EDIT: Actually nevermind. Just realized that I can just copy-and-paste a page into Word, and use its replace word tool there.
Edited by RetlocliveopenPossible Troper With an Agenda? Western Animation
Mist Red recently edited Trumplica to remove Chloe Bourgeois from Miraculous Ladybug as an example, with the only explanation for this being that they personally do not want to use Thomas Astruc's own words as evidence. I've found no evidence that they discussed this with anyone beforehand, which was unusual enough, but a cursory look at their editing history shows they've made
multiple
edits
to Miraculous-related pages, and nearly all of them seem to be either making Chloe sound like less of a villain or making characters opposed to her sound more like villains. Would this be a case of an agenda?
openResponding in Forums Western Animation
Hi Tropers,
I just made a post in the Wylde Pak forum asking if anyone had something that terrified them from the recent episode Mrs. Withers' Parables. However, I don't know if asking anyone there was a good idea. I was hoping for replies so that I could make a nightmare fuel subpage. I don't want to make one without being sure that I had examples that didn't just pertain to me as nightmare fuel is YMMV. If the forums are not a good spot to ask this question, is there anywhere else I can ask them?
Thanks,

Edited by R2-D21138resolved User with grammar problems
cartoonfan 945 has general issues with very bad grammar and wonky writing. I already sent them a notifier for an edit they made on the Comic Books sub-page for Role-Ending Misdemeanor (much of it copied hap-haphazardly from the Wikipedia page for the subject in question), but found a few more, including here
, here
and here
.
Could anybody intervene in this situation, and possibly direct them to the Help with English thread?
Edited by DongwaChanopenAre name tags inside a character folder necessary?
So, as someone who is actively editing the Umamusume: Pretty Derby pages, I recently saw that a troper has removed name tags from the beginning of character folders, calling them redundant as seen here
and here
. I put the name tags as a part of the format in the first place since I was following how other Character folders are formatted. I asked the troper in question about it and cited how other games have such format, with me using Arknights, Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, Zenless Zone Zero, and Reverse: 1999 as examples. I was then told that it's redundant because the name is already covered in the folder in the first place and it's probably a leftover from older pages that use name tags as opposed to folders for the character name. I was then told to clean up other works with such format.
Now that makes me wonder if they have a point and such redundant format should be mass cleaned up? If so, can the full name/alias of a character that isn't already written in the folder be cited in the introductory paragraph that explains the character instead of being placed in the folder title? This is because said troper also told me the name tag might be fine for a character with more to their name than what the folder title implies, but selectively using name tags only for characters with full names or aliases would make the formatting feel inconsistent
openPermission to a re-add some things from an entry of mine that's been condensed Western Animation
A while ago, I added this entry to This Image Is Not an Example:
- Intercom Villainy: The image depicts Alastor in his radio station from the "Stayed Gone" song sequence in the Hazbin Hotel episode "Radio Killed the Video Star". Point is, although Alastor is a villain, he's the Token Evil Teammate of the show's heroes rather than an enemy of them, and in context he has never used his radio system to properly talk to enemies in the usual ways implied by the trope (rather, he uses it to terrorize the inhabitants of Hell and make any feats he succeeds at known). Plus, the aforementioned song sequence involves him joining midway through "Stayed Gone" to interrupt Vox's (the enemy in context, and one of the actual antagonists) performance and curb-stomp the latter's attempt at damaging his public image, with the audience being supposed to root for Alastor rather than Vox.
Some time later, Amonimus heavily condensed
the entry for being too long when compared to other entries on the page.
- Intercom Villainy: The trope is about a villain taunting the hero from a safe location. During the scene, Alastor is a Nominal Hero, who mocks Vox, his rival and an actual villain, on public media.
I noticed that the condensed entry now lacks a link to the work page in question like most other entries on the page do (plus some important aspects regarding the trope itself), so I'd like to change it to this:
- Intercom Villainy: The trope is about a villain taunting the hero from a safe location via a remote communication system. During the scene from Hazbin Hotel, Alastor (the character pictured in the image), a Nominal Hero, mocks Vox, his rival and an actual villain, on public media, in the middle of a Quarreling Song between the two.
May I go ahead with the change? I'm asking because I had previously included the pothole in the original entry pre-condensation, and want to make it clear that I'm not intending to start an Edit War.
Edited by Inky100openErroneous Creator Indexing
On Italian Media, there are few entries for American-born creators of Italian decent (like John DiMaggio and Jessica DiCicco), despite them not being involved in any Italian productions. I noticed this aspect on a few other creator indexes regarding other American-born creators.
Should we remove them?
openActor Myopia?
Something I noticed on foreign voice actor pages is that they note the actor playing in teh original dub (either live action or animated). For example, take this one on Megumi Han's page:
- Carrie White (Chloë Moretz) in the Japanese dub of Carrie (2013)
I know some dub actors are assigned to certain actors but I feel like this actor myopia in a way. Any thoughts on this?
openWhen whole scenes of a movie are published before the movie itself Film
I've been looking at Creating A Work Page For An Unreleased Work. Either I'm missing something or it doesn't mention cases where scenes are published on, say, YouTube (almost) in full before the movie itself did. For example, TRON: Ares.
These started with more higher-profile "movie channels", so I'm not sure if it counts as a Content Leak.

openIs this entry not allowed on this wiki? (NSFW warning) Western Animation
Hi, I want to add this entry to the Robot Chicken YMMV page under Aluminum Christmas Trees, but I don't know if it's allowed to be on this wiki because, well, just read the entry I was going to submit:
- A sketch from season 10 involves Squidward starring in a porno. There actually exists an adult parody of SpongeBob titled "SpongeKnob SquareNuts".
openEdit war on YMMV.AmericansHateTingle Anime
On AmericansHateTingle.Anime And Manga, a troper called Dave Can 83 (edit history is here
) added an entry
regarding Sailor Moon and Viz Media's release of the series. After I brought it up on the Fact-Checking Thread
, I removed these entries as a precaution since there was no evidence to support it
plus those probably consist of some complaining.
When the troper re-added the entry again
, MagnoliaBloom91 removed it
. At The Mayor of Simpleton's suggestion
, I'm posting this query on ATT.
I'm also guessing this troper and Tropers.DE Nelson 83 (edit history is here
) might have potentially similar issues.
Can someone please look into this?
Edited by gjjonesopenFanficSubpage
I'm trying to label a page I'm working on as being a "Fanfic" in the subpages. But I'm very new to editing on the website and have no idea how to go about doing it. For reference, here is the link I have.

openCondemned By History entry on The Two Mouseketeers Western Animation
Until last August, this entry appeared on YMMV.The Two Mouseketeers:
- Condemned by History: This cartoon was initially very popular upon release, even managing to win an Oscar; today, however, it is considered one of the worst cartoons in the series due to its particularly cruel ending to Tom, even by Tom and Jerry standards.
I couldn't find any evidence of the widespread, universal dislike that's usually required for Condemned By History, and its IMDb rating is 7.5/10, which is on the higher end for the Tom and Jerry theatrical shorts. However, I know it's a controversial short so I changed the entry to Broken Base and reworded it to describe it as controversial rather than it being considered one of the worst.
In August, Grey-ghost changed it back to Condemned By History with the edit reason that "It only got changed to Broken Base based on its Imdb score, but that's just one site and we don't know how many users on the site rated the movie." This came after a third user tried to put a separate Condemned By History entry in, which was deleted by yet another user for being misuse as it was a "downplayed" YMMV entry and thus invalid. (This incidentally is why I'm bringing this here, as I suspect that even if Grey-ghost and I came to an agreement on how to handle this, someone else would try to restore the entry sooner or later anyway due to the general controversy over the short)
Firstly, we actually do know how many users rated the short on its IMDb page
- about 2,000, so clearly a decent sample size. Secondly, I think calling it one of the worst Tom and Jerry shorts is respectfully a case of Fan Myopia, especially when you consider how poorly regarded some of the other Tom and Jerry theatrical shorts are.
So, am I right in thinking that Broken Base is a more appropriate entry for this one?
resolved How does advertising work on this site?
I'm asking because I'd like to know why I'm getting TruthSocial ads while scrolling TV Tropes.

I accidentally hit “save” before I finished typing my edit reason on my latest edit. I added it later, but is there a way to fix edit reasons in case I make this mistake again?
