As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
^^ It's more intended to keep drafts from getting 15+ bombs before the sponsor can do anything to fix it, and to prevent drafts from getting an excessive amount of hats in a matter than hours. Point is, once you have the net-hats or bombs, nothing else really matters. I'd rather see people take to discussion and actually voice their concerns or approvals, rather than just toss a hat/bomb and call it a day.
Besides, the cap wouldn't have to be at the 5+ level, as long as it prevents the number from getting pointlessly high.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallI think we've already noted on Sandbox. Were Improvingthetlp that (hats-bombs)>=50 should be the ratio for an insta-nuke, with it mostly picked as a long-term solution due to potential growth. I mean, some drafts can't be saved and moderators aren't active all the time, so in those rare cases, I'd say that should be enough and we shouldn't have to worry about the sponsor's ability to fix things if they just don't have the time or want to do it. Besides, I don't think it'd be possible for someone to make 50 sockpuppets to bomb the draft, and chances are that if it has that many (but not record-breakingly many) bombs, the reason for why it's bad is likely evident within seconds.
What I'm trying to say is, rather than put a limit on how many bombs to hats are at the same time, I'd rather just have the system instantly nuke the draft when the ratio's bad enough.
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods Of Incremental)But that only works for bombs. Hats have the same issue, perhaps to an even worse extent as nukes can be undone much easier than rushed launches.
Working on: Author Appeal | Sandbox | Troper WallIt'd definitely be only for bombs. Hats can be capped as needed, but maybe at a ratio of (hats-bombs)=20 to ensure that it's clear the draft has already received lots of support but not enough to grow suspicious and obviously not cause insta-launch.

Yes, another TLP related wish.
I'd like it if hats and bombs had an automatic "cap". There's been a lot of cases, too many to count, where people excessively hat or bomb something with...no actual reason. It'd make a lot more sense if, say, you could only add up to 5 more bombs than there are hats (and vice-versa), with the allowed number automatically going up when the other number does. So say for example there's a draft with 6 hats; you'd be able to have 11 bombs, but no more. Then if that draft gets another hat, you're allowed to add another bomb for the counter.
Since you only need 5 net hats to launch and 5 net bombs to discard, there's really never a practical reason for having more, and if anything a large number of either of them just tends to cause problems- so it's really just best for everyone if there's a limit.
