I immediately thought of Bruce Balan's 'Cyber.kdz' series. There are six of them, all really well written and well plotted. Most of the series is in chronological order, but the third one (The Great NASA Flu) is a prequel and tells the story of how the group banded together in the first place. I think that's the one you have in mind.

I'm trying to think of a young adult novel. I think it was the first in a series. A teenage hacker's father gets invited to help work on a satellite meant to study the Antarctic. Something goes wrong with the launch, and the father is blamed. But the son knows it was sabotaged. The rest of the book is spent uncovering who did it and why. The whole story is told scrapbook-style, with excerpts from chatlogs, documents, etc.
