I remember reading something, I believe a young adult fantasy series. In it, there were some people who had some sort of special powers, I believe some form of teleportation, and these people had different eyes that indicated they were one of the people with powers. The main character was one of these people, and was very new to their powers. I believe they were also one of the last ones of these people, as there was some Creature/Person of some sort hunting them. This hunter also had their powers, and when it killed one of the power-people, it took their eyes, so it had lots of extra eyes over its body. Additionally, there are at least two people in this world who traveled back in time. The future they were from is more modern, and may have been experiencing an apocalypse of sorts, which the two people were escaping. One of these people is in the region of the world where most of the books are set, and is on pretty good terms with the main character. The other character arrived in a different region of the world, and proceeded to start building an empire with higher technology, which is a major threat at the time of the books. At one point, these two time travelers have a conversation, and the Empire-builder remarks about the amazing resources present in the region he arrived at — not just gunpowder, any fool could make gunpowder! — but also Oil!
