Actually, it's called My Teacher Is An Alien. Bruce Coville loves his cheesy titles.

^ I thought of My Teacher Is An Alien too, but I'm not sure the ending fits — and, more importantly, it's not a short story.

It is definitely NOT My Teacher is an Alien. I know that for a fact. But I'm not sure what it /is/. I do remember that the principal said the teacher was just a scapegoat.

I can still hail the Horde even though the company has shamed us. Strength and Honor even if Blizzard has neither.

I remember this story. Was the teacher or principal named Smith and/or Jones?

Edit: it was in one of my English textbooks probably from 6th or 7th grade. I have definitely read it and am scouring Google now.

Do you happen to remember if the main character's best friend was sort of a jock? I may have the wrong story, but I think there was a line about his friend body-checking him, and my teacher (in English class when we read the story) was explaining to our class what body-checking was. It also may have been that the friend was an alien also, and the reason the principal found out about the main character's suspicion was because he told his friend. Does any of that ring a bell?

The only characters I remember are the main character, the "boring" teacher who, according to the principal, could not possibly be an alien; and the principal, who was the actual alien that had the main character abducted. I do remember a few details about the abduction if that helps. That was the part that stuck in my mind. The UFO was not in the room, but first the kid found himself immobilized, then he vanished into molecules, then he "felt a sensation of rocketing upwards".

Okay, I'm just making absolutely sure we're talking about the same story, and just trying to get down some details in case anyone else recognizes this and can chime in. I've been unable to come up with anything for an author or title, but this is driving me nuts! Thanks for reminding me though, it was a really cool story.
