The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Are there any other tropes that have attributes of the example I gave?
Cassie | he/they | But will it stop the pain forever? / I just can't be sureReimagining the Artifact or Cerebus Retcon can be used on something that was initially a gag and change it to a different (usually more serious in the latter case) concept
Insofar as I know, those tropes are more likely to apply the greater the "episode/installment" distance is. This is more about a trait with significant development from one "episode" to another.
Cassie | he/they | But will it stop the pain forever? / I just can't be sure
If a character's trait is increasingly amplified/exaggerated, but it never overshadows other traits of the character, does it not count as Flanderization?
Example involving a character from Tropers: The Series:
- In "Bobby Buzzer's Bombastic Bameshow" Libre vents out an inhuman, loud scream after it's revealed that the gameshow's prize money that he got is only 1 US Dollar and 68 cents. In the episode after it ("Tropesburg Gets Even Stranger") he lets out a far more inhuman, louder scream after getting his thumb cut by Taco Jr. to use as bait for the Demodogs (which resulted in him requiring a synthetic voicebox by the end of the episode). In the episode after that ("Thrifty Thursday"), his screaming has become a full-blown ability that allows him to knock away anyone that gets caught in it.
