IMX, not many tropers are aware of what Red Link says. Other wikis may have other policies that discourage redlinking.

The Hawkgirl one was especially bad because instead of just removing the link, they replaced it with a piped link to Hawkman. And I was like, wow, way to unintentionally insult Hawkgirl, dude.

Something similar happened in the Beware the Superman page, where I found a link in the name 'Superior Iron Man' that instead linked to AXIS, the event the comic spun out of. But that's at least more understandable, since it was a tie-in to a crossover event and those generally don't get pages of their own. Nonetheless, I had to edit the page so that the name linked to its own work page.

I'm not sure if I should just dutifully re-edit all the red links whenever I see this happening or try and do something more drastic to correct this misconception.

There's a "work title" notifier that tells people they're not linking to the work properly, as well as pointing out that work names should be in italics or quotes. Send them that, and if you didn't create the link in the first place you'll be fine to edit the link back in.

Hmm, okay. I'll remember that.

The policy hasn't changed. Red links are encouraged, but most people don't seem to know that and treat them as errors.

Right. Like every other common editing issue, we just need to inform people that redlinks are good.

Good to know, then. I'll contact the tropers I've seen engage in this behaviour and explain it to them.

I noticed this as well. Had a brief and friendly discussion about the issue with a troper who did this on a page I have on watch, and they apologized and changed it back. They weren't aware of the policy and thanked me for pointing it out.

It's great when things resolve nicely. Given that the problem tropers get a lot of attention here, it's nice to know that a lot of fellow tropers actually aren't like that.

Only place where red links are removed are indices, which are listing work pages that exists on the wiki. Otherwise, yes, red links are encouraged.

Just a correction ^:one can redlink on indices as well. (I don't like it but that's that :P)

There's talk about getting rid of pages in the ComicBook/ namespace that are essentially character pages, so that could be why the Hawkgirl redlink was removed, but Outlaw Kid did have his own comic series named after him, as you mentioned.
